      They are all doing well but 1of the trees which unfortunately did not wake up this Spring. There will be a follow up video soon.

    Once the grafts take, what do you do with the top of the whips? Do you cut them off right at the top of the graft? Do they heal over well and add even thickness to the truck or do you have to shave and shape them back down?

      Hey Brian, I cut the whips back and leave about a 1/8" for dieback.I only do this after the whips have fused with the base.

    Another great video, many thanks. I have two large yamadori field maples that have gaps like that at the root base, so I’ll be trying that technique for myself . Out of interest, do most of these grafts take first time ?

      Hey Alan! I would say 8 out of 10 take. The success of the grafts greatly depend on timing and how clean you make the cuts.
