  • Grafting is a transformative technique that empowers us to control foliage placement on our trees, shape their behavior, and unlock their true bonsai potential. By grafting onto a renowned California juniper previously owned by Harry Hirao, we pay homage to its legacy while addressing its challenges. This iconic tree's growth has been hindered by stubborn foliage and limited ability to thrive post-wiring.
This process ensures that Harry's vision lives on through new methods and a fresh aesthetic. Join us on this journey of growth and skill-building as we create a bonsai masterpiece.

Thanks Ryan for the grafting lesson, this Bonsai Tree looks better with more green foliage. Ryan would taking the Leftside Hump on the Trunk help in the Design more? ( right where it is beginning to separate). Yes it show the Age of the Trees. Thanks. Peace Be With You. PS wife happy with new Look? My wife hates my beard.

Suggestion: it would be cool if you inserted a pic in the upper corner area of the video that shows the tree as it was styled over the years. Just for 5 sec. That we can referance the tree, as he is explaining what was happening with the leggy branches, crotch growth etc.

Hi there could you please confirm us if you just cut the air layers before you graft. Or you did it some time before and you keep it in the bag, watering for a time. Thanks for all Ryan. All the best

Grafting something that isn’t the original foliage on such an old tree just doesn’t seem right idk. I struggle to like this, I understand Ryan is a master and it will be an amazing tree in the end but it’s kinda like looking at a hot woman with fake boobs. Yea it looks great but you know it’s not real.
