This 2 parter came in very handy. I have a few Bolens Versa-matics, 2 of which run a kohler. One is the K90,the other a K91. The K91 runs nice but the K90 needs some love. This series is just what the doctor ordered. Cheers from Wisconsin.
Brings back memories of the machines our gardeners used at our house back in the 1960's I remember he had the pull rope looped around the handle, front throw lawn mower. Great fun watching the restoration.
The particular mower was the Cal Trimmer, I saw the same mower used as well. Long wooden ramps to bring the mower down, you have a lot of power so the engine never ran fast just a quiet idle
Buen trabajo. Hoy da la casualidad que después de 2 años de estar buscando una bobina de encendido la he conseguido y este fin de semana intentare ponerlo en marcha. Dos años restaurando un motocultor con un motor KOHLER K91. Good job. Today it so happens that after 2 years of looking for an ignition coil I have found it and this weekend I will try to start it up. Two years restoring a rotary tiller with a KOHLER K91 engine.
Ive owned 2 of those engines and i could never get them to run. Its nice to be able to hear one of those running. They sound exactly like a 1960's B&S flathead.
Missing the oil dip stick and tube, cooling tins and fuel tank. Without know more I suspect it was a K 91 EP since it has no recoil start, It may have once powered a small generator. Based on the colour made before 1965. Good little motor and you did a pretty good job.
That came out pretty good. But a couple of things that could’ve been done better were... lapping the valves and also you didn’t properly align the piston ring ends (to prevent them from lining up and scratching the cylinder)
Some of the details I did off screen, like valve lapping, valve gapping, points gapping. The piston rings were done as per owners manual. Misaligning will not scratch the cylinder wall, it will only affect compression and oil consumption and carbon buildup. If the rings were not done correctly the motor would have less compression and it would smoke when it is running.
Love old engines back to life. Why didn't you teflon the threads on the brass fittings ? When you start the engine 2 times in bare feet can you estimate the foot pounds of energy you have generated ?

What a fantastic job you have done, dude! Excellent work! Just from a health and safety point of view, rather than barefoot, maybe you should consider some steel toe-capped socks! 🤣 Take it easy man, Andy 🍻🤘💜
You might want to check OSHA best safety practices about wire wheels. You shouldn't wear gloves while wire wheeling. A guy in my shop had his finger yanked off by a wire wheel while wearing gloves.
Camshaft? Cam timing? Crank journal checks? Cylinder bore checks? Ring groove checks? Valve clearances? Valve seats? Points setting? Carb passages cleaning. Float height? Float needle seat check? Too much painting, not enough engineering for me I am afraid
I tend to agree with this comment. Don't need to see the float bowl polished or all of the screws screwed in and out. Instead show us the technical details that distinguish a running, in tune engine.

I love watching people rescue old engines, machines, and tools it is great to preserve our past.
Great job restoring an old piece of iron, I enjoyed the process, keep up the good work.
very good
7:24 I know that feeling! That's where having a video to look back on comes in super handy! 😁
Haha it gets me every time!
Super restoration from super magician AJ !!!

That brass piece looks like an oiler plug. It does look good. Beautiful restoration.

They do sound similar, I still start this one up every now and then.
Great little engine indeed. Loved your work overall. Awesome stuff again
Good job, I never saw you set the points but still it started.
I eyeball the points gap. usually it's set to about .20
Nicely done. I especially liked your colour choices.
Thank you very much!
Nice little engine!
It sure is!
Excelente video y aún mejor trabajo! Felicitaciones!.
Thank you so much!
Really beautiful work. Came out great. Looks and sounds good.
Thank you very much!
Hi AJ beautiful restoration good job well done
AJ: Amazing Job to work at the engine
Very nice!
Very good! Thanks from Brazil.
Very nice! Came out great!
I'm so excited for this part 2
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
Looks fantastic - thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Good stuff, thanks for sharing!
I'm going to remember that trick with that O ring
@@be007 Thanks for letting me know
Thank you my friend! Have a great weekend!🙏😊👍41
Thank you! You too!
Great job there Young Man 😎👍 glad you got it going again
👍👍
Ooo nice! Great work 👍
Beautiful 🎉
Check fly wheel rubbing on shroud
Thank you! 😊

Aluminum oxidation is why people paint the carburetor but I agree they do look good that way.
Valeu AJ! Ficou top esta restauração.
Thats a Kerosene engine, you fill that brass cup up with gas just for starting then it runs on kerosene
Amazing
Pretty cool Bro... Great work... 😀
Thank you so much brother 😀

Looks great! What's the primer cup on the fuel inlet for?
Not too sure, probably for letting out the air in the line. Thus priming the fuel.
Manufacturers such as Kohler and Briggs and Stratton painted carburetors so it could match the engine block just for extra looks
My favorite color is blue so sand blasting that carb doesn't bother me but that blue looked cool
I tried to match the blue, but I could not find a metallic blue that would match the original. so I just went with custom colors.
What about timing and setting the points and condenser?
Комментарий в поддержку канала и ролика, а также труда мастера отреставрировавшего.
I just watched this video. It was very very interesting. I have the same k91. My question is how much would you charge to work the same magic on mine?
Did you put new piston rings and main bearings?
Not needed, the piston and main bearings were still in good shape.
That squealing will happen with those big jobs!🤙🤙 GOOD JOB! Now give her some RPM'S and hopefully that sorts her out!
It did sort itself out actually, I played around with the little motor today and its not squealing anymore.
Your missing some seals on your carb
But of it works.. it works..
Good job
Are there springs on the valves ? I didn't see any.
Haha it gets me every time!
Bom trabalho muito bom gostei !
Love old engines back to life.
Why didn't you teflon the threads on the brass fittings ?
When you start the engine 2 times in bare feet can you estimate the foot pounds of energy you have generated ?
Hahaha about 2 foot pounds of energy. The fittings did not leak, so I left it be.
That valve I thought was to stop the flow of gas but I don't know either
I love your videos. What would you use this for?
Probably a vintage style go-cart. Or a vintage gas powered grinder? Haha no idea actually.
Is the oven you use a special commercial or shop oven?
I use a junk kitchen oven I got at the metal recycling yard.
Ya know....... That squealing is from the engine being very happy.
I have one that's older that still runs
Gotta love these Kohlers!
Do you know what it is from looks good now awesome job
With the puey that was on the shaft and the frame it was mounted to, I think it was used with a belt driven water pump, or generator.
@@AJRestoration thank you
Is there a battery hooked up to it or does it require one?
No battery needed.
@@AJRestoration - thanks, I didn't think so, but wasn't 100%.

Hahaha if I can find some, I would actually wear it!

I get what you are saying, my little grinder does not have enough juice to yank off a finger. Talking of experience...

All done, If I showed all that the video would be 4 hours long.
But that's the interesting stuff! Not the dressing up.@@AJRestoration

No lo puso a tiempo ala vista una cosa muy importante ya que si no se pone a tiempo jamás prenderia
Sure is pretty and next time my mower won't start, I'll try barefoot!
Barefoot does help, trust me hahaha
Why do you wear those big bulky gloves?
People watching my videos complained about me not wearing gloves. now people complain about me wearing glove hahahahaha.
alors et la poulie ou elle est?
💯💯😲😲👍👍🙏🙏💯💯
