You do a very nice restoration job. If I may offer a suggestion Although it costs more , I like to plate certain parts mainly hardware. Paint on carburetors can cause problems. Of course it adds outside cost. I get it. I restore anything from Clinton, Wisconsin, Kohler k91- K90. They are Americana...... Good luck.
I used to do this for a living, I worked at a small engine repair shop and all the antiques would be sent my way and I would get them screaming. My favorite is the tecumsah long stroke cuz even though the horsepower ratings were low the torque was very high and equal to modern day twin cylinders
Very nice. I have many small engines, but no Kohlers. I didn't know Kohler such a small engine. All the ones I have seen were quite large. Once again great job.
Looks great, I never had a chance to work on a Kohler but always wanted to. I like your detail work, I'm the same way when rebuilding. I agree with not painting the carburetor but I might polish it.
I love Kohler engine as the Wisconsin they were hard working engines and lasted long time if maintained I don't know why they paint the carb I cleaned it like you and spray clear spray know I polished my float I know they going to get tarnished but I painted mine with 2coats of clear nail polish but if you run Sea Foam in the fuel system cleans I used battership gray
I was a tecumsah guy, the long stroke engines were amazing and I had one that was fifty years old and still ran when I put it on a wheel horse and sold it to a guy that wanted a small tractor that could pull around trailers at a campsite
@@brucebonkowski4526 well that's what happens when you team up with sears and craftsman, I haven't bought craftsman tools since harbor freight opened in our area. Also working at a small engine repair shop for years I learned just how crappy craftsman mowers became. I had a 51 sears and roebuck (became craftsman) and it could pull a stump with minimum effort despite its small size but modern craftsmans blow the tranny pulling a leaf vac
@@hellhound1389 yes but Briggs went to everyone from.hardware to Kmart and other but we had lawnmower I running in my business snapper aluminum deck and jacobsen 20 commercial rotary I can strip them down strip them and repaint the push mowers still are the same but mine don't rust I bought new one and with being careful and scrape multiple times the decks rusted in 3yrs and Briggs quatrum were junk I have a Briggs twin cylinder on a walk behind we are going to pull it and swap it with a older brand new engine it having vapor lock won't start after running it hard to start they made the mower like the car high prize but quality 2out of 10
@@brucebonkowski4526 just cuz Briggs was highly available doesn't mean it was better, I would come across a lot of Briggs that would bust the diaphragm on the carb and it wouldn't take too long and it would be back in the shop for the same problem or the block would crack at the valves especially the exhaust side and you'd have to replace the engine. Give me good old cast iron block tecumseh, the block would hold up to anything

I ran a Kohler K91T motor (4HP) on a 25” California Trimmer lawnmower for many years in the 1960’s-1980’s.
I just love the birds in the background. Excellent video as always!
I agree 100% about not painting the carb.
I wouldn't call myself an "engine" person, but I have really enjoyed this restoration. You are meticulous - and the bare foot technique is critical!
It would not work without the barefeet hahahaha

We have a old kohler engine on a tree shaker but don't know the model. Think it needs a new head gasket
Very nice…. Love the restoration

I would love to have one of those Tecumseh engines. Slowly growing my little engine collection.

Raining outside makes me feeling like I'm living in a cottage between mountains..that is what I had lived fifty years ago.
I love the rain!
Fine job

Heat the aluminum pulley and remove it with a puller. Spray the wd40 before and after.
I think that valve is a priming valve since it opens on the top
It is, I used it to prime the fuel yesterday.

What oil does this engine use? I have one, but I don't know what oil it uses
I always use SAE 10W-30 but that all depends on your climate and the season you will use the engine in.

better not use paint, just leave like it is
You should gave painted the original color
I don't think so, Its my engine I could make it pink if I felt like it. I have no attachment to the original color of any item.

You put back old main bearings, piston rings and gaskets🤦🤦🤦🤦

Kohler 4hp
It was green from the factory, why black now?
It was a funny blue, I could not match the blue, so I went custom. And I liked the black and red idea.
