A few comments on here saying how much better the 'live' version is. Obviously, it's a matter of personal taste, but to me the 1996 version is just standard fare stadium rock. I love the snarling, nasal vocals of Dave Davies on this - it's the cry of an adolescent who doesn't want to grow like his parents and everybody around him (though he knows he probably will which makes it so frustrating).
One of those classic Kinks b-sides (to 1966's Sunny Afternoon) sung by Dave. It's been covered by many garage bands like the Chocolate Watch Band and most recently live by Billy Idol. However, the definitive cut is the live 1996 one with Ray singing lead and Dave with the melodic solo, which was used at the end of a Sopranos episode. Song also was in movies and commercials (IBM). IMO, The Kinks had the greatest b-sides.
Me fav Kinks song. The Who & The Kinks (starting off as part of the 'mod movement') most definitely inspired and influenced many punk rock bands later on. You get some great listening advices from your followers!
Interesting! 😀 I had a 'Best of The Kinks' cassette tape when I was 10, in 1980, and I'd actually started to learn the drums by playing along to it (and also to 'Zenyatta Mondatta' by The Police and 'Back In Black' by AC⚡DC), but _this_ song I just heard for the very first time. And quite liked it, too! 😀 Especially since I too can relate to being different than most other people 🙂
I've heard this before but not familiar with it, the guitar sounds really cutting sounds pretty early kinks. "The village Green Preservation society " is a master piece kind of over looked album it really brings out the Britishness of Ray Davis lyrics
Love the snarling vocals. This is from 65,pretty punk for the day. Try ‘Shangri-la’ from Arthur.
This is Dave singing. 1966
Ray later does it later, don't know what year.
Both have a different feel, and both are great.
This song is stunning.

We may have to do a revisit of this one.

Dave Davies on vocals here. Different flavor. More rock and roll.
I can't help but think he sounds like the guy from The 13th Floor Elevators here.
Don't know them.
@@hanierfamily a seminal garage/psychedelic rock band, try, You're Gonna Miss Me, or, Fire Engine.
Just discovered you, I love this channel!

The Davies brothers taught the Gallaghers *everything* they know about fighting, falling out and not talking.
kinks [Father Christmas ] is a strange Christmas song but well worth it
Tis the season...

Big Sky
Animal Farm

Sure is no fun being like everybody else! 😆
The live version is much better
Why does this sound like the Jason Bourne Theme?
Live version BBC is a million times better
Not for me.
