    Part of getting the most out of your singing voice is understanding your own voice type. When you have a better understanding of your own anatomy, you are more able to know what to expect from your voice, and perhaps more importantly, what not to expect. Part of this understanding is knowing your own voice type, what many singing teachers refer to as voice classification. Knowing your voice type is really handy if you want to sing in a community choir, audition for a music theatre production or join a vocal ensemble like Pentatonix or Voctave.
    Other videos only cover one aspect of voice classification: vocal range. But vocal range, that is finding your highest and lowest notes is only a small part of properly identifying your voice type. So, in this video, I want to help you correctly identify your own voice classification using three key indicators: vocal range, prima voce, I’ll explain what that is later, and anatomical factors. If you’re serious about learning your voice type, you need to combine all three indicators to arrive at your voice's correct classification. It’s important to understand that any of the three indicators, when considered by themselves, will only give you part of the picture, which might lead you to incorrectly classify your voice type.

      @@vikramadityavoleti1895 Mariah Carey sings some low female tenor notes. Her high register is considered to be high frequency range due to whistle notes and there are singers out there that can go over the pianos highest A plus there are bass singers that can go way below A0 on piano. Those voice techniques aren't technically singing anymore it's like listening to trumpet screams or Tuba Pedal tones. Those extended range of notes are used for dynamic performances which means your not singing from the diaphragm anymore at those points. Those notes are being hit not sung from the vocal chords. Most real bass singers or real sopranos can go outside the piano range I'm just giving sharp truth on this subject. Most rare basses or sopranos can have great extended ranges.

  • @strawberrypanic11
    @strawberrypanic11 2 роки тому +255

    Mariah Carey identifies with being an Alto but she’s classified as Soprano. And I see it because she’s always been more comfortable in a lower register if you really listen to her deeper sounding songs, all while jumping octaves whenever she feels like.
    She just has that fluidity and I’ll always admire her as a vocalist.

    This has been the most helpful video on voice types that I’ve seen. Thank you so much!
    I’m a solo singer, so I know it doesn’t really matter as long as what I’m singing sounds good. That said, I’ve always wondered why my voice sounds so Soprano-esque, despite my most comfortable vocal range being more towards an alto/low mezzo soprano. I’m thinking now that it means I’ve got some anatomical qualities that give me more treble and/or less bass in my tone! Super interesting.
    Just in case anyone reads my comment and is curious, my range is about D3-F5, with the prime voce taking up almost my entire range, from A3 to D5.

    That was w worthwhile investment of my time. I’ve been classed as a bari in every choir I’ve participated in as well as some barbershop quartet. And I’ve always struggled with it. Recently re-engaged with my vocal development, exercises, drills and such. But it’s clear as day that I am a tenor even tho I can sing all the way down to C2.
    A lightbulb has gone on, I’ve just never seen it laid out like that, and for some reason my mind didn’t see nearly that much overlap in the ranges.
    It will be interesting to see what this perspective reframing results in.
