I could be wrong but the way you set this up is for electro plating. To clean you shouldn't have the coin directly attached should be 2 pieces of metal with the coin in just resting in the solution. All you are doing with this is plating the coin.

have you tried resetting the connection?

Use it with caution mate it can frazzle coins if you leave it too long
