Thank you for all this. That was a wonderful read / listen. On a bit of an unrelated note would love to hear your take on "The WEIRDest people in the world" by Joseph Henrich Thanks again
I'm so glad you liked it, and thanks very much in return. I will look into the Henrich book, but it might take until a school break. If I have thoughts to share I will let you know.
@@ChristopherAnadale thank you for the consideration. I can imagine you are very busy. Just felt like mentioning this to you. Thanks again for your wonderful video's I enjoy them very much.
Thank you so much for this series. As a 71 year old much of Counsels and Maxims resonated deeply with my own life experience. I listened to the whole series wistfully wishing I’d been exposed to Schopenhauer earlier in life. One question I have: Having now googled Schopenhauer to read something of his life, I’m mystified how such a fragmented mind as his could have produced such a coherent, wise and frank commentary? Thanks again.
To discover one's self , to understand the illusion of separation, and the nature of joy, suffering, and their relation to expectation/desire, to discover the peace, and power of solitude. Valuable content . Thank you.
Thanks, I have really enjoyed listening to your episodes about Schopenhauer. There's so much crappy AI content on youtube right now. Thanks for taking a human approach and giving your analysis
You are very welcome, and thanks for the tip! This has been a fun project for me, esp because it has let me hear from people like you. I hope to continue it into next year.
This is just absolutely fantastic. Everything is exactly as ordered. Sometimes I wonder if I am broken, but I'm just ahead of the curve. 40 yrs of age and feel like 60 in terms of preference for solitude. Or close to it.
Thanks for adding your interpretations and explanations along the way. I have read some Schopenhauer and find it hard to understand without that assistance.
I have been a pessimist for 50 years and on top of that I'm an autist. We had no obligation to wear masks here in Sweden, so I really enjoyed the pandemic. I didn't take the shots either.
Pain is the correcting factor of life. Pleasure seeking is an attempt to mask pain rather than doing the work to correct the transgression of natural law that is the root cause of the pain in the first place.
I searched on Amazon for the book you use in the video. Maybe I did something wrong, but I found everything but. Can you recommend a good version of "The Wisdom of Life and Counsels and Maxims" by Arthur Schopenhauer so a layman like me can read and understand it? Thank you!
I couldn't find it on Amazon just now either, don't know why. Here is the publisher link to the version I read. www.prometheusbooks.com/9781573920339/the-wisdom-of-life-and-counsels-and-maxims/

Avoidance of pain and suffering sounds cowardly because it is from these sources that mature a human being; for example, going to prostitutes for sex avoids the pain and suffering of deep emotional involvement in which sex is an expression. Sex with prostitutes, in the end, leaves an empty experience and a truly lost opportunity for maturation of love.

World-class reading & analysis of a revolutionary tome. This should have tens of millions of views.

Thank you so much for this gift. I can't wait to get started listening. I'm going to send it to my daughter who loves philosophy as well. Thank you❤
I received this link from my father and understood it as a "gift." How interesting!
Love a good short introduction.
Great work, thanks for the enormous effort 🥂🥂
The part on seclusion, is a counter argument to all of the "social isolation" during the pandemic. But also, to our growing solitude.

What is this natural law you refer to?
wisdom in pure sense
Thank you professor for this helpful video 👏
Great job on explaining everything! I learned a lot
Thank you sir!
PS I just ordered a St. Thomas Tee Shirt. Thanks so much.

They want to suppress these truth-bombs. That’s why they don’t carry Schope’s work. Thanks for reading it to us.
What the name of the intro music?
I bought this book and realized how much was skipped over.
If you mean the copy I have, that's 2 books in 1 volume: The Wisdom of Life & Counsels and Maxims. This series is only about the 2nd book.
@@ChristopherAnadalethank you for this amazing reading. I listen as I drift to sleep at night. Super interesting and relaxing.

There is no true love. You don't love other humans, you just love what they can do/be for you. Buying sex is in fact more honest.

False. There is no God, but if there was, according to the holy books describing these gods, they are monsters. WTFU and be rational.
