Nice video! I'm planning to build a custom home with Zip R sheathing with Hardie board and batten. I was planning to use Keene easy fur as a rainscreen. Is it best practice to use rainscreen when installing Hardie siding?
I’ve never used rain screen on board and batten. To be honest with you, I’d be afraid that it would start to warp and loosen up.
I’ve seen Borden batten last 30+ years on a pathetically framed it and sheeted home. So in my opinion, if you do the proper air and water seal techniques on zip, you won’t ever have a problem.
@@jonport_ Thanks. Its just I have heard from other so called experts that if you allow the back of the fiber cement to dry with an air gap the fiber cement can keep its color longer as well as allow the Zip surface to dry quicker
Right. With lap siding id have no problem with a rain screen but it would need to be a 1x4. Actually while typing this if you did do a 1x4 every 16in with bats I wouldn’t see why that wouldn’t work. Because over all a well installed zip with a good rain screen is about as much over kill as you can get haha but also very effective. Look at Matt rinsingers video if you haven’t. He’s the best when it comes to this stuff. ua-cam.com/video/S6gDdyjx5hQ/v-deo.html
You do not need to install rain screens. For Pete sakes, 30 pound felt tar paper will outlast anything around. Tyvek disintegrates and is a garbage product. Let’s see how zip holds up. I think it’s an LP disaster just waiting for failure. Even if rain screens do have a place or any benefit, most would never be installed properly anyway. Matt Risenger will only double your build budget for no reason.
Be as it may. They do have a tone of benefit if you have the time and budget
Is the fellow cutting the boards using lung protection? That dust is extremely dangerous.
