Turbo Burning Oil?!? This Could Be Your "FIX"

  • In this video I show you a few things that could possibly be causing your turbo to spew oil out the turbine and give you ways to fix the problem. A turbo burning oil could be a number of problems. The most common reasons are: Too much crank case pressure, clogged oil return line, the wrong oil restrictor/no oil restrictor, the wrong size oil feed line,too small of a catch can and not a big enough open air vent or even the wrong pcv setup,bad journal bearings that allow the oil to exit the turbine and on the compressor side it could be a bad compressor o-ring.

    My 2008 cx7 had only 69,000 miles on it as of Feb. 2015. I took great car of my cx7......I love my suv.! It was in excellent shape! Excellent interior and exterior. I took great care of it....but I traded it for CX 9...no turbo! Sad face :( I plan to take em to court for their dishonesty. Thank you for the video!

    Hang on, you have 2 compression rings in most engines and they seal the cylinder from getting lots of blow- by. But you also have 1 oil control ring that stops oil on the cylinder walls from getting into the combustion chamber and cause you to burn oil. There are many ways oil gets burnt. Valve stem seals, oil control rings, worn compression rings that cause excessive blow- by (then PVC returns it to the inlet) and worn turbo seals.

      He is talking about the turbo. He says the oiling ring in the turbo is called a piston ring. He says it in the first 30 seconds of the video.

    be careful using the RTV gasket maker under the drain flanges,... when you tighten the flange excess RTV squishes out AND in blocking free flow of the oil. I personally use the fiber gasket and put on the lightest coat of RTV possible(VERY LIGHT/THIN COAT) on both sides and then I make sure that there's none on the Inside Edge where the drain hole is at before putting flange in place.

    Having an issue and not exactly sure what it is. I have a brand new PCV and catch can and I also have a breather filter on my crankcase vent and I get minor oil smoking from my tailpipe only when I come to a stop. I have a PCV delete kit on the way but my next step I think is the return line. I see a small oil trail coming out of the return fittings and clamps. Thanks for the video

    hi, is it possible that the exhaust gas will cause oil to leak from the turbocharger when the catalyst is very dirty?

    • @Nthefastlane
      @Nthefastlane  4 роки тому

      It's possible if some of that carbon build-up gets in between the exhaust turbine piston ring. Everybody calls it an oil ring, but it's actually called a piston ring. For the most part though oil starts leaking out of the piston ring mainly because the ring no longer allows the shaft to stay in the correct position,this can happen from the journal bearings and from the piston ring. The oil ring/piston ring does not actually seal oil from exiting out the turbine exhaust side. Build up pressure from the oil return not flowing properly will cause oil to get past the piston ring and out the exhaust. If there's no pressure in the turbo cartridge then no oil will get out the compressor side or the turbine side.
      Make sure you have the return angled downward properly with no kinks and no upward swoopes.

The turbo boggles and doesn’t feel smooth. What do you think it would be? These problems you just listed?

    My Mazda cx7 was rear ended at about 40 mph while sitting still. My exhaust was damaged and dual exhaust replace.....But my car started smoking sooo bad after repairs. Until I thought it may catch a fire. I was so upset because my car with only 69,000 miles had never smoke until I was rear ended. Mazda techs said turbo charger leaking oil and said ......ITS NOT RELATED to rear end collision.....What do you think????After watching your video, I feel Mazda tech lied to me just to make me self pay!

  • @kornshadow097

    Not accurate. If it has blow by on either side it can be due to the oil passage being restricted, or crank pressures being too high due to piston blow by or too high of oil pressure. Although many say that you should run whatever you can max for journal, sometimes its not realistic and no matter how great your drainage, internal dimensions of the cartridge restrict the flow the higher pressure you go.

    Thanks for the video! My STI has a rotated kit and I just installed a Precision 6466 BB. They tell me not to use a restrictor on this turbo and I've tried everything possible to stop this from smoking. It smokes to the point where the complete rear end of full of oil. The car has a cosworth a high pressure oil pump, could that be the reason? I don't think so, but I'll see what your opinion is.

      That would be either the sound of your compressor or turbine side wheel touching the turbine housing or the compressor housing either your bearings are wore out or the shaft is wore out but if you're hearing grinding then pretty much the whole entire turbo is shot.Once the compressor or turbine wheel touch there toast.
