What happens when four legends of British stage and screen get together? Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Eileen Atkins, and Dame Joan Plowright are among the most celebrated actresses of our time, with scores of iconic performances, decades of wisdom, and innumerable Oscars, Tonys, Emmys, and BAFTAs between them. They are also longtime friends who hereby invite you to join them for a weekend in the country as they catch up with one another, reminisce, and share their candid, delightfully irreverent thoughts on everything from art to aging to love to a life lived in the spotlight. Bursting with devilish wit and whip-smart insights, Tea With The Dames is a remarkable opportunity to spend time in the company of four all-time greats-up close and unfiltered.

I’m so pissed that this isn’t getting a wider release. I would love to watch all these women talk for hours.
Yes,I wholeheartedly agree with you !!
Glad they have released the movie on DVD here in the US and made it available to rent thru Netflix.
So am I 👍
Honestly, I could watch Maggie Smith and Judi Dench natter and laugh with each other for hours.
just another ALL-WHITE cast of women, racist and despicable.
@@charlietu Yes, far too many movies are made exclusively with all-star casts of titled & entitled older caucasian ladies, you f*cking moron.
@@charlietu Twat
@@charlietu Try looking in Africa you prime twerp.
@@charlietu Dimwit.
they all need to make a movie together. fabulous.
alexandra nyc they did, minus Dame Eileen Atkins. Tea with Mussolini is the film it’s major Iconic.
alexandra nyc Joan Plowright is sadly completely blind now due to macular degeneration and hasn’t made a film in a while.
@@benswindlehurst1857 Yes they did - we are so lucky to have that movie. I watch it many times over. They are such gems. And also love Cher and Lily Tomlin in this work.
They did film set in Italy... Fantastic Group of British Ladies...
Dame Maggie and Dame Judi were in "A Room With a View" together, and with both with Dame Joan in "Tea With Mussolini".
Dame Eileen dropped the most elegant curtsy.
They are all brilliant and terribly funny! And Maggie Smith makes everyone laugh!
Maggie: But you accepted it.
Joan: Yes.. Because everyone else had!
HAHA!!!
Joan: "It's difficult with two titles". Maggie: " Did you grapple with it Joan?"
Maggie Smith Is my idol
"I'm Dame Judi Dench, I'm a national treasure!"
Proceeds to throw dog poops everywhere and shoplift stuffs.
That warm, beautiful, and funny feeling when I see these women. I LOVE THEM!!!
Me too!!!!
Yo, Maggie Smith is Hilarious 😂
God bless these wonderful women
Such titans of the stage and screen! Such a treat to watch these amazing women just talk. However, the trailer is the best part as there were a lot of silences in the film, some too long, that verged on tedium. I wish the questioner had asked better or more insightful questions, but the actresses kept it interesting, despite the often boring questions they were asked. I loved that their incredible faces are real: not botoxed, face-lifted, silicone-implanted, or filler-filled. Thus, they don't look like caricatures, but as women who have lived interesting lives, with marvelous faces that tell the tale.
KSfan4ever They have such wit and laughter to. Great dames!
As Lauren Bacall (not a Dame) said, "Your life should show in your face and you should be proud of it."
This is too damn wonderful!!! What a good time! Whose horrendously wonderful idea was this?
Emma Thompson just became a dame as well, but she's from a younger generation
Really?
@@ruthiehensh Really... what? Yes, she's accepted the honour not long ago, I heard that too, and yes, she's of course a younger "generation of dames". Thompson is in her late fifties, the actresses sitting in that round are eighty and older. 🤷🏻♀️ You might seat her on a table with dames like Kristin Scott Thomas, Julie Walters and Emily Watson... somewhen Helena Bonham Carter, as I hope. 😉🙏🏻
The last one might be a bit awkward.
@@jacklines147 Bonham Carter? And why is that?
Vicky 12 Kenneth Branagh
Dame Julie Andrews should be there too
All these women are close friends in real life, they came up through the theatre ranks together. I don't think there's bad blood between them or anything but Julie Andrews isn't in the same circle. She's actually a tad younger than them I think.
nope- these 4 are titans of acting. darling julie is not fit to lick their boots (when it comes to acting).
@Kira-gracexo julie andrews is divine, i used to celebrate her birthday every year. but she is not anywhere near as good an actor as these 4.
maggie smith is far more private than julie, so that's not the reason these 4 are given more attention than julie when it comes to acting ability. the reason is that these 4 have played roles such as cleopatra, jocasta, lady macbeth... they have played these roles because their range and authority allows it- julie does not have their range or their armoury of technique.
she is not just as good- she is a very limited actor and it's insulting, actually, and ignorant to state that- as ignorant as my saying judi dench is as good a singer as julie (she was the lead in cabaret and a little night music!) but she doesnt get the same praise because she decided to work in straight acting.
@@MrTonyInchpractice Dame Julie has worked longer than any of them because of her spectacular voice. How many of them have opened & starred in Broadway hits? How many of them have Dame Julie's box office? How many of them have flashed their fabulous boobies in a comedy directed by their husband?
@@MrTonyInchpractice Guessing Julie has more awards & nominations than the 4 of them put together.
A room full of Pure Class.
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think you would find that anywhere else in the World.
And the reason it works so well is because they really don’t take themselves seriously.
That’s the most charming thing about these fantastic Actresses.
This is so wholesome, 'for services to drama' like they're just the queens fave gals so she goes 'ey give em a badge n a fancy name go on I'm the queeeeen'
Over two hundred years of collective entertainment! So charming and delightful to see these titans of acting hobnobbing.
I am so happy this exists
They are just adorable Dames and magnificent actresses !
I love and admire these beautiful women!❤
Eileen Atkins and Maggie Smith were in the film Gosford Park although they don't shared scenes. Judi, Maggie and Joan were in the film Tea with Mussolini. Maggie and Judi were in the film A Room with a View and Ladies in Lavender.
What are you supposed to say to a Baron?
“Have a nice day” 😂
The Grande Dame of Cinema. My favorite actresses.
The Ladies are glorious and hilariously funny!
This whole movie was absolutely delightful.
That was adorable!
Golden oldies 💛❤️ are the best ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Diese Auszeichnung wurde von allen Ladies EHRLICH verdient !!!! Da Capo !!!
Glorious ladies all of them.
Mrs. Dame! 😄👍🏻
Everytime I see the Elizabeth Regina initials I think back to the scene in The Thin Blue Line and the "Errrrr"
OMG yaaaaaaaaaaaas no one else ever seems to get that 😹😹😹
Dame Joann is such a cutie!!
I saw this and enjoy seeing these beautiful dames .. my favorite is Judi
Fantastic great dames love them love their English!!!!
This movie makes me so happy and I adore these four ladies but I still have to ask: where was Angela Lansbury??
That sneaky UA-cam algorithm at it again. Guess what I'm watching tonight?
How i wish they have a movie together it would be awesome i tell you.
3 of them do.... Tea with Mussollini.... Plowright Maggie n Dench x
They're classier than most royals and nobles.
Miss Dame. 😄😄😄😄
This is fun
I want Judi Dench to be my grandmother.
Legends
Fantastic
Excellent!
Judi 👌
I don't why but I think we need to see these ladies on The Crown
Dame Atkins already in the Crown as Queen Mary S1
This is brilliant
"Mrs. Dame" . . .LOL! You certainly won't be catching this American saying anything like that.
Oh my Dame Aileen Atkins, Queen Mary of Teck!!!!!! Weeeeeee 🤣🤣🤣
Queen Mary was never "Queen Mary of Teck". She was a Princess of Teck only from 1867-1893, from her birth up until the time she became HRH The Duchess of York. From 1910-1936 she was Her Majesty The Queen. Period. Not "of Teck".
But Joan is also a Baroness, so that makes up for it.
What's so funny about calling Sir John Standing, Baron? That's his title.
No ... he's a baronet. The correct address is Sir John.
Also, the correct oral address is "my lord" for a baron, rather than "Baron XXX".
Likewise, the correct oral address for a dame is "Dame [first name]", while the correct address for a lady is "Lady [surname]", which is why they say is incorrect to say "Dame Plowright" ... honestly it would be funny if it weren't derpessingly complicated.
Something Americans lack, Oh yes Class.
I can’t wait or Emilia Clarke to become a Dame
Where is diana rigg?
Working. Game of Thrones (Emmy nominated), Detectorists (working with her daughter), Broadway (Tony nominated, 2 decades after winning for Medea).
Where's Dame Diana?
Baron?
"Have a nice day, I guess."
Does anyone know what is the background song? Thanks in advance ☺
Real dames
I use to like them all, but now, after hearling the mockery, I wish the world could be as perfect as the British.
What mockery?
@@Hannahxx1971 Oh for petes sake. It is confusing if you're not use to how it all works. That wasn't meant viciously. People need to laugh at themselves and not get their feathers all puffed up over some teasing. The British by the way, are so great at laughing at themselves also.
Where is Dame Patricia Routledge? She could very easily keep up with Magie Smith.
Shes not part of thos group of close friends
Dame Patricia Routledge is missing!
These 4 Dames are close friends and meet up like this often
Isnt Routledge a dame too?
Yes but she isnt one of this group of close friends
@@pedanticradiator1491 i gathered. But thanks for replying ☺️☺️☺️
Dame Diana Rigg
I can see an olivier award and 2 golden globes at their backgrounds who won those?
I’m not positive, but I think this was filmed at Joan’s home, so they would all be her’s. She won an Olivier in 1978 I believe, and two Golden Globe on the same night, for Enchanted April and Stalin.
where can you watch the full film?
In a theatre.
John Standing is actually a baronet, not a baron.
Why hasn't Dame Helen Mirren been included in this?
Because these 4 are old friends who pretty much started their careers together, Helen is a bit younger
Just a group of peers. Helen is in the next batch. Julie Waters is too. Coleman is in the following cohort. The focus on acting and character instead of physical characteristics and fashion helps to keep British actors in the forefront of the profession
The Royal Family never picked a better group of women to give Damehoods to.
Actually the government not the royal family gave them their titles
Would have loved to see Penelope Wilton too. Massive fan of Marigold Hotel & watching in November 2020 lockdown. So bored going to binge watch both DVDs.
These 4 are old friends who meet regularly
So why wasn't Helen Mirren included?
David Young Because this is a particular group of friends/colleagues who just happen to be Dames, perhaps Helen isn’t part of this circle.
I think Helen Mirren is also at least 1p years younger than all of them?
These four are close friends and started their careers around the same time. Helen is a decade younger than them. Basically they're Seniors and she's Freshmen. This wasn't the film maker getting four people together to make his documentary, it was him finding out that these four often get together and talk about life and him asking "Hey can I come along and film one of your get togethers and ask you some question?"
@@ArtemisScribe Dench co-starred with Mirren & Rigg in Midsummer Night's Dream half a century ago, here on UA-cam.
@@unowen-nh9ov I know that. But as I said, these four are very close friends and get together for lunch on a regular basis at Joan's house. This is not a staged meeting. The director has not picked these women. He has heard that these lunches happen and asked to come and film one. That is why Helen Mirren and Diana Rigg aren't there. Also I like your Agatha Christie username.
où est miriam margolys
She is french !!!
ok 😁
Time waits for no man, no, for no woman neither...
I know Vanessa Redgrave refused Damehood before but I hope they give her again. Also, Glenda Jackson.
If you say “thanks but no thanks” I don’t think you get a second chance. It’s a bit ‘fool me once, shame on you’
Britain has this problem with class distinctions, so they always try to look unposh by rejecting knighthoods so they don't come across as snobs.
Joan Plowright Yes? And Vivien Leigh, no? It's a historical error.
HRH THE QUEEIS WEARING GREEN HRH PRNCE CHARLES UNIFORM OTHER REGALIA JUST AS TRADITION SHOULD BODY LANGUAGE CAN NOT GET THAT DIY aka DO IT YOURSELF BOOK,WELL IT IS AN OCCASION AND WELL,THEY WOULD BE VERY PROUND, BY THOSE I AM SURE.JUST THOUGHT I WOULD SAVE TIME FOR ALL THAT DISAGREE.
In our yankee defense we do not how to address. Dame. Sir Lord. Baron come on now. It’s really ridiculous
And Vanessa Redgrave ?
Ángela Lansbury?
No one was selected for this film. The guy who made it heard that these four have lunch regularly (because they're very close friends) and asked if he could come along and film one time. No one has been left out or snubbed, it's just four old ladies who are best friends and they all happen to be some of the greatest living actors.
@@ArtemisScribe Thank you!!!
Vanessa turned down a damehood for political reasons. Glenda Jackson as well, I think.
@@silverytongue3522 She is a very close friend of Dame Joan. Olivier proposed to her during a party in Dame Angelas New York appartment. And she is a friend of Maggie Smith since they shared a dressing room with Mia Farrow and Bette Davis on the set of Death on the Nile. But Dame Angela lives in Los Angeles, so she cant be a part of this circle, I believe.
Why do they have to wear a hat though?
That's a time reflector. ❤
It's one of those things that still dates back in tradition as it was unacceptable for women to show their hair/head, so hats were always worn to formal occasions
Joan Plowright, not. It's my opinion.
Of course bring means you get to use your own name not your husband’s. However I I agree - being called Lady such and such sounds better than Dame …
Are these masons?
I’m really glad we don’t do this in America. Bruce Jenner would be almost courageous Dame.
So there Dame Maggie, Dame Judi, Dame Eileen, and then a Molly Sugden impersonator who's only claim to fame is appearing in a third rate production of Dennis The Menace.
what did Dame Joan Plowright do to you?
@@williama7124 nothing at all. She's just a mediocre actress, who married a hammy, O.T.T., but much more highly regarded at the time, actor, from which she gleaned all her future "glories", and its the only reason she has a Damehood, unlike all the others, who are top tier.
Phil Y, you must have been apoplectic then when Joan Collins received her Damehood, star of such memorable
films and tv, Dynasty, Benidorm, The Stud and let's not forget The Bitch, fabulous dahling.
@@majesticworld255 Don't get me started. That trollop has been flouncing around like the Queen of Sheba since day one, but she couldn't act herself out of a paper bag. She can't even wear a wig convincingly.
@@phily8093 Joan Collins actually became a dame for her charity work. Which, when you think about it is a lot more noble and honour worthy than ones "contribution to drama", whatever that even means.
Never mind the fact that she's in her late 80's, has been acting for 70 years, has more joie de vivre than those a quarter of her age, looks incredible, exudes old Hollywood glamour and is generally a pretty classy lady.
Sounds like a dame to me.
