Ik its a joke but afair pit crews are just engineers/mechanics in the team, theres no specific job as pit crew
You can only collide with the car in front of you, or the car behind you. So if you are in first or last place, you cut the chance of a collision in half.

I did the same thing with the pit lane in my kart race, worst part is I was leading the race before it happened. The driver behind me did a great job of keeping the pressure on and I choked.

I was doing a dirt rally, struggling to hang onto second, pushed a little hard and went airborne directly into the pit, went from 2nd to last.

These races should have some power-ups and jumps in them. That would make them really interesting.
