I've heard that the Special Stage X track was designed loosely from the Expressways of Japan, and particular those between Narita International Airport, heading west to the Port of Chiba, and Tokyo Bay. One end of the loop would include the Tokyo Aqua Line, (bridge and tunnel) which crosses Tokyo Bay in Chiba. This route would also pass by the Tokyo Skytree, which a form of is featured on the track. Scaled down, this could be the inspiration for the entire circuit, but I guess only the Polyphony devs would know for sure. Also, the radio telescopes could be based upon Misasa (JAXA) Tsukuba Space Centre, built in this era to replace the Msuda Centre, and not too far away from Narita Airport (by scale). In any way, Special X seems very much an ode to Japanese high speed roads, incorporating some famous landmarks with a twist.
According to the information in the game, it's located in the USA, specifically on the coast near San Diego and Los Angeles. It's clearly not a real place, but the dry landscape and mountains in the distance look like that area of California.
This seems to be true according to Kaz but it's weird how this seems to better describe Route 7 more than Route X, which comes off more testing facility turned race track. The testing facility thing seems more true when you factor in the unused midfield but I mean hey Kaz said it so what do I know lol

tbh I was hoping that something like that would happen when they said they had CFD in the physics model, but they don't seem to bother with it half the time. Like, I only think the CFD is used on 'real' mode, and even then theres a lot more collisions than irl which makes it difficult to tell if it matters. It seems like it might but tbh part of why its in nascar anyway is the massive drag those cars produce, especially with the spoilers on them. most races like this people use wings instead if they have any overbody downforce, much better L/D and overall drag anyway
Dude this brings back such good memories of GT6 racing at 300 mph in our R35s and TZ3s. Back then those were like the fastest road cars in a straightline and slipstream in GT6 was just so comical and the races all came down to who timed their NOS perfectly haha.

The mercedes engine seems extremely good to be run at max rev for such a long time without blowing up. The boys at the factory are doing a fantastic job as always.

The inner American and nascar fan in me fucking LOVES this raced, lmfao. I love pack racing, and I really think this proves NASCAR drivers race much more technically than most people think. (Imagine this for 500 miles!) The intricacies and precise, calculated moves are what makes oval pack racing so damned awesome in my opinion.
Both the chilhood NASCAR fan and the Hoosier in me loves oval races as well. Loved me some Tony Kanaan and Hélio Castroneves back in the day. Buddy Rice was my brother's favorite IndyCar driver. However, I enjoyed NASCAR more and my favorite racer was Jeff Gordon.

Take into consideration the vector of the wind, it heavily affects the slipstream area by its speed and direction. The farther back you are the more adjustment to the side you need to apply, the closer to perpendicular to your vector of movement is.
tbh I'm surprised thats such an issue, they're over 270, it should be a fraction of a degree difference in the direction when the wind speed is less than 10 mph, even if its perpendicular to the direction of travel
The key to the AMG is to be as smooth as possible with the steering, the rear wing pops up if you are not smooth as butter and you drop a couple of mph, stay as high as possible on the banking aswell. im in 96th position on the fastest lap challenge using a controller is not easy being smooth lol.

It's funny the first few times this race appeared, it was more of a joke. But you really do explain and analyze many elements of it and, I guess, this is kind of what NASCAR is about? It's psychological and all about timing, rather than straight up racing lines and corner entry/exit.
This is why I don't underestimate "stock" car racing in an oval. But good luck to me having Europeans agree with me. I think the majority would rather joke about it.

Something you did I don't think you noticed was when you used your nos at the end you cut up the track to force the guy on the outside farther outside. That pretty much secures that you get 1st place slip stream by just coming back down the track. If you didn't force him up you two probably would've hit trying for the slip stream. Great race!

I actually find this form of racing to be quite interesting, like Talladega but longer. It requires strategy in both driving and tuning, which is fun to see put in action. I wouldn't mind an entire game mode dedicated to this, maybe called Streamlining or something?

That looks cool, definitely got the 1st races nos wrong, you finished with a whole 3rd of your nos still unused, that's lap time just sitting in a bottle being carried across the line. Really enjoyed the content.
If it fits the regulations: 1999 Dodge Viper GTS BUY ALL THE UPGRADES. Set the gear ratios for top speed but the acceleration is still good so you can reach redline without taking too long to build up speed. If you can add wings and stuff, set the downforce for higher top speeds. Stiffen suspensions, adjust the camber, toe and anti roll bar so it can corner easily. The broken monster known as a fully eqiupped dodge viper GTS should have still carried over from Gran Turismo 3 and 4 as this is literally the Like the Wind race that gifts you the 787B after racing a GT-One, TVR Speed 12, Supra RZ, R34, etc.
Raced on this track for the first time last night (I know, I know) and it was some of the most fun I've ever had. It took me a minute to get a hang of the drafting but man did GT ever nail it. Came out of the last corner perfectly in 3rd as the 2 players in front of me were fighting for position; came out of their draft just in time to take the win. Amazing track for being so "simple" because one wrong move and it's literally over. I mean I guess that's how it is with every track but I feel it more so with one because the speeds are insane.
I don't know if people remember, but back when GT6 was around on PS3. There was a name for such a race and it was called (Club 300) it meant you were only allowed to race if your car was able to reach 300+
I like that GT isn't afraid to just have a bit of fun, I think it's important to the community. We all know that this race in just a marble run, so why get mad! HAVE FUN!

So according to my calculations the Mercedes reached a fuel economy of about 75.7l/100km or 3.1mpg Based on the distance of 20miles and that the fuel gauge showed 3/8 of the 65l tank being empty
NASCAR & formula E races b like: try racing those VW van buses here that go 60mph top speed 😄 w: other VW van buses. some ppl think oval racing like NASCAR is easy like i used to, u just constantly pressing the throttle. but oval racing is tactical, deciding whether to draft & pull out, reacting to other drivers or riders making mistakes in front of u avoiding them.
I know the Buggatti Veyron at 263mph but at that speed the tyres only last 15mins , but it would empty it’s tank in 12mins,. The Chiron gets through a tank of fuel 9mins that’s before the tyres wear out in 15mins. Same as the Veyron because the Chirons tyres are rated to 273.4mph.

This race could possibly be even better if Polyphony added a side-draft mechanic on the ovals. Another tactical element to consider here
They would have a perfect NASCAR game at that point. The oval racing on Daytona felt so authentic when they did that Corvette daily race.

This track is the pinnacle of racing, so difficult to get it right. Even after hours of practice it’s still hard to master this piece of engineering.

They should make fuel into a factor of the race. Either push hard and pit for lap 2 ( 2 laps race ) Or save fuel to go to the end!
Saving fuel will be the strat, youd need way more time to catch up for only 2 laps
Like with all oval races, like Daytona and Talladega fot example, timing is key, patience is crucial and drafting is a must

Running 30 min enduros with Nsacar Stock Cars tuned was always a BLAST with good friends who were nuts.

I would love this race considering I mostly do nascar racing, working the draft and building up runs is my bread and butter 🙌🏼 this is basically nascar without restrictive plates, love it.

this race is like if they took the backstretch battles game from roblox, turned the straight line into a massive oval-ish circuit, and put it into gran turismo. and i love it

So according to my calculations the Mercedes reached a fuel economy of about 75.7l/100km or 3.1mpg
Based on the distance of 20miles and that the fuel gauge showed 3/8 of the 65l tank being empty

some ppl think oval racing like NASCAR is easy like i used to, u just constantly pressing the throttle.
but oval racing is tactical, deciding whether to draft & pull out, reacting to other drivers or riders making mistakes in front of u avoiding them.
dude in the last race guy in the second was name "two-threes" and coincidently he was also 0.33 sec behind (two-three)
love these races, the jostling for position and team work but self work so good
I know the Buggatti Veyron at 263mph but at that speed the tyres only last 15mins , but it would empty it’s tank in 12mins,. The Chiron gets through a tank of fuel 9mins that’s before the tyres wear out in 15mins. Same as the Veyron because the Chirons tyres are rated to 273.4mph.
I think this race would be fun with muscle cars or 90’s sedans and hatchbacks. Either way, love the vid and cant wait for that merch to launch!
