Thanks for watching!
3:10 - The X-Wing is so fast and sophisticated it immediately goes out of range - out of range of his skill level.
5:40 - Lucky for them an expert showed up. Look at it go at 6:50.
The X-Wing is definitely not for beginner pilots. You have to be very gentle on the throttle or it will nose up too much. And you need big slow wide turns. I will be releasing my review and flight video soon, and I had the thing flying for pretty much the entire battery duration, and it's actually quite awesome when you get the hang of it. :)
***** Thanks! :D
+Flyin' Ryan RC This is squarely aimed at total beginners. They sell them at Costco. When the inevitable giant FAIL happens they will say " well little Billy RC is just too hard and thats the last one I will waste my money on"
Air Hog could package and sell a Star Wars turd and people would buy it once. Then they would become collectable and sell for hundreds of dollars on eBay years later. This isn't RC, this is Crap!
Green Rectangle RC Huh? I'm not sure how you equate being sold at Costco to being "clearly aimed at total beginners". And, it is not crap by any means. Like I said, someone that takes the time, and has the skill, to learn how to fly it will actually quite enjoy it. But, hey, haters gonna hate!
+Flyin' Ryan RC Haters??? Really??? Because I don't like something you do? Yeah I always think Costco and Walmart when I think quality RC. Ya know Ryan I respect your reviews for what they are and I think your honest and accurate for the most part. This latest wave of Star wars paraphernalia are just movie novelties that are best left sealed in the box. The truth is there are so many cheaply priced RC toys/models that are a way better value and actually fly very well. They don't have to pay for the Star Wars branding so the buyer gets a better product for the money. There is a huge amount of garbage RC on the market already ( clones of clones of clones ) and I thank you for weeding a lot of it out and finding gems. Sorry I can't agree with you on this one though...it's just CRAP!
Green Rectangle RC What are you basing that on? Just wait till you see my flight... it's not crap, and I was super-giddy flying it. For a pilot with some skill, or patience to learn how to fly it, it's not bad at all! I absolutely agree that the average person that buys this in Walmart, etc, will probably not be able to fly it, but that doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things. And, yeah, it's more expensive because of the branding, but that is also what makes it a lot cooler. I had more fun flying this than I have any other 2ch Air Hogs plane. And, I don't say hater because you disagree, I say hater because you are calling it crap when it's not. That's being hateful.
What about creating plans for an foam x-wing made from scratch? Something like 4 ducted fan motors, fireworks guns, and no need for the stabilizer wing. Vertical thrust vectoring on the top motors, horizontal thrust vectoring on the bottom motors and elevons on the wings.
yep, ft x wing please. I'm sure peter could design something better than the air hogs one.
+m ej It's a great idea... except for the licensing issue. Last I heard, Disney is very protective of their IP.
+crenn6977 it's a matter of checking how FliteTest addressed the reproductions of the "Planes" models (e.g. FT Duster)
Very true. Would be awesome to see the an FTX-Wing become reality :)
Totally agree. Peter would do such a good job at this!
Yeah Peter, I know you can build a better EDF X wing than the air hogs one!
+TheAdkFlyer10 Yeah - Without the goofy canard for stability, bigger motors, larger. We'll have to see if he can make it work!
+TheAdkFlyer10 I agree! It has to look good. That would be an intense challenge - a scale looking X-wing that flies well.
There ya go Peter! It looks like you've been challenged! ☺
+TheAdkFlyer10 DO IT JUST DO IT
+TheAdkFlyer10 Peter, build that X-wing .. theres a new Flite Test kit in the works...
Nope, this wont do at all.
Peter needs to build a giant foamboard one, or maybe even my favorite - the snowspeeder.
+Rcbif When you say giant what you really mean is full size. :) I'd like to see Peter scratch any Star Wars ship of his choosing.
+Rcbif I did a little searching around and found this site which has a few star war flying models along with a few other sci-fi creations, if your interested . rc-usaf.com/ They have a few videos of them flying as well.
+uncletigger 👍👍👍
Challenge : make a version that flies over at least 70 miles per hour
l never get to fly my Drone ☹️😞
Cool video, thanks guys. I really like when the drone follows the x wing fighter just like in the movies. Great job.
Best test I've seen yet! Was gonna return it, but now I must "pump it up."
Id love to see a brushless mod with UMX linear servos and 4x 30mm brushless fans
4x 30mm EDF?!!! That thing would definitely move! ;)
Imagine the noise of it though... my UMX f16 is loud with just ONE!
+Low Elevation RC yeah! The f-16 is awesome! I have the Habu and man, that thing screams!
Yep, I have the Habu as well. Compared to those two gems this Xwing is rather disappointing and I'd love to see on on the same level as our hobby grade UMX jets.
+Low Elevation RC haha yeah! My first R/C plane was an Air Hogs A-10 and I was so disappointed. Lol I was like 8, but I was still angry. I just started flying hobby grade planes about 2 years ago and and just now getting into mini quads! I love this stuff! And although these may not fly the best, the do give a beginner a sense of how things work (although I would not recommend buying one) and it's a fun "toy".
I think any modification and update on the X wing would be great
You said you "Charpu'd it through the trees." I knew he was good, but now he's his own verb! Sweet!
Could you add additional power to the upper engines to make it an actual quad powered ship instead of just the lower two? Also, would drinking straws and coffee stirrers work as gun replacements?
Paint a giant weather balloon death star colors!
What do you mean IF you should modify it? This is Flite Test right? Come on... Brushless motors, control surfaces, etc. Let's go.
I had fun watch you all trying to fly the X-Wing. Thx
..i bet they felt like really unexperienced pilots once the third guy flew it! ..just the look on their face was priceless! "You just want to tap it guys" LMAO
Peter is like a little mad scientist :)
the tapping technique is instructed on my old 2ch XPV plane, it was my first plane that actually flew right due to this technique. now i fly 4ch planes.
Kids! You gotta love it!
First video of yours I've seen. This was really good. I totally want a Millennium Falcon now. =) Great, high quality camera work and "drama" (will the X-Wing fly properly). Great job guys.
That's awesome. I just bought both the Falcon and X wing. Can't wait to try them out. :)
I would like to see Peter build a RC X-Wing or maybe a quad Deathstar.
lol Peter... "Alderan technique" That's just awesome... lol
Love the Star Wars quotes, you guys are the real deal! LOL
Nice review guys! That looks like a lot of fun, and that looks like a great field where you were flying it. I saw that Air Hogs X Wing Star Fighter at the store today and was wondering how well it would fly...and now I know. I like 4:58 "it's always the camera guy" lol
Maybe 2 extra engines in the top would help it
That works exactly as well as every other air hogs product I have ever played with.
You guys should build your own X-Wing, that would be awesome!! I really think you guys can improve on the design and make it faster and more responsive.
I totally want to see a custom build of the x-wing! Quad propellers in the jets and quad independent ailerons for that sweet barrel roll and stop on a dime goodness... I'm telling you, you guys could make something super badass!
Would someone explain why they bent the one canard when it was turning instead of using the trim control on the remote?
Ha!
Josh Scott: "So basically I'm going to start bad habits..."
Millenium Falcon... WANT :)
I wonder if four motors; one in each engine housing, with four-way differential thrust would remove the need for the canard.
I wonder if you could swap out the motors for more powerful ones then play with the balance so that it could fly with the guns on?
Me: Ha nerds playing with their X-wings...
...I want one.
curiosity, these MIGHT fly better swapping in bull nose 2 blade props meant for a little brushed quad. for flying looks, drinking straws for "guns" could be cool, slit to fit the wing tips and a tiny spot of tape. they'd get mashed a bit with landings and crashes but shouldn't hurt anything.
We are gathered here today to celebrate one of life's greatest moments, the joining of two hearts. In this ceremony today we will witness the joining GROOM/BRIDE and GROOM/BRIDE in marriage.
If there is anyone present who has just cause why this couple should not be united..... Sussh!
Who gives this man/woman to be married today (Optional)
Today we have come together to witness the joining of these two lives. For them, out of the routine of ordinary life, the extraordinary has happened. They met each other, fell in love and are finalizing it with their wedding Today.
Romance is fun, but true love is something far more and it is their desire to love each other for life and that is what we are celebrating here today.
A good marriage must be created.
me too
NERD!
...am i a nerd?
peter should scratch build a big one that has more power and has control surfaces.
Great tip! I'll try bending the forward flaps and hopefully that too will keep it from nose diving.
Can more than 1 millennium falcon be flown together at the same time? Similar to how you were flying the X-wing and falcon together?
I would love to see Peter do a millennium falcon body for a 180 or 210 size quadcopter that would look so awesome! Fun episode guys I'm glad somebody finally made a r/c version of a X-wing
that is a great idea
thank you
+Fraser Lamb apparently they agreed with you :P
Now let's build it in foamboard. A FT version would be cool.
I had an Estes X Wing rocket back in the day. It was made of plastic for 90% of it. Epic slow lift offs. The laser guns almost always broke off when landing.
1: Peter is a stick genius.
2: Charpu'd - love that verb!
Wait, did you just say you'd strap model rocket engines to one of those if we asked? Well, I'm askin' then.
use D-12/5s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd so want to see you build your own from scratch!
You guys are awesome and very informative.. Thank you for your continued insight on various drones..I continue to view your channel for the best in drones..I have a question, We purchased two Propel drones ( the x-wing and the tie fighter) everything went well with putting them together. the x-wing is flying and working as you would want. the tie fighter is in reverse? instead of lifting up it is drawing down, do you know what we can do? highly appreciated input...
Toss the Air Hogs X-wing and build your own with twin edfs. I'd say quad edfs, but tail heavy would be an understatement.
Drone chase cam. Aaaahhhhh, too cool.
What drone was used for the drone chase cam sequence?
Credit to Air Hogs for bringing me into aerial RC years ago, however I spent way too much money trying out their stuff which were generally different tiers of garbage. Syma was the first mini heli I bought done right and I haven't touched Air Hogs since. I'm very unlikely to go there again unless they turn things around. All of it is overpriced junk.
Can you guys put 4 better motors in the cowlings, use differential thrust for both pitch and yaw?
Great video, especially the last half. ;)
The three people that dislike this video must not like having fun because I thought this was a awesome video!! 😀2👍🏼👍🏼 up guys!
you guys should make a bigger xwing that flies better
What would happen if you frankensteined two of the ducted fans from one x-wing into the empty ducts of the other - quad ducted fan x wing...major thrustage?
11:17 lol xD "put the guns back on"
The little Asian guy is definitely a Jedi. The other two have as much chance of flying for the Rebel Alliance as Jah-jah Binks.
Nic Stroud , we do not speak of that name here.
Jar Jar Binks
Jar Jar is possibly the Worst Star Wars character ever made.
the force is strong with this one.
is the x wing aerodynamically possible to fly without the canards? you guys should test that
yup, I've been flying one for 3 years. check my vids
wow thats cool. i always thought they were impossible to fly due to all the lift being in the back end
+Death to NATO imperialism, freedom to the people as long as the center or lift and center of gravity are in order it doesn't matter how much plane is sticking out front. took me a couple crashes to get right.... but the HK radjet gave me confidence that it could be done. that's what my xwing is made from : 1 radjet fuse and 2 sets of wings
again, that is pretty damn cool to see
thanks! The next one I'm building is bigger, more scale, and has retracts :)
Yup. You guys defiantly need to make a FliteTest X-Wing now.
Great episode! I'd love to see it modified to fly properly
I'm sure you guys can make a bigger better x wing with fpv.
For the love of god PLEASE modify them! I would pay to see that! lol
would really love to see with control surfaces as well as four motors instead of two. :)
With the Millennium Falcon can you change the fan to give it more power?
The xwing seems to fly as good as an rc borg cube...
funny, because theres a rc borg cube quadcopter and its very durable
Eddy Jin idiot
Eddy Jin died like an idiot
Mod them and build your own design
tell me how to make one beefy enough to fly wit the guns on it, and also would it ever be prectical to salvage the electronics out of cheap RCs to put into home builds?
THE AIRPLANES AND QUAD COPTERS ARE AWESOME. IVE BEEN INTO BOATS AND CARS FOR MANY MANY YEARS. MY QUESTION IS THIS: With the video camera equiptment we have today, can you put it into a car or truck w/correct freq.?????
1:11 dude tries to eat the Falcon just like the giant worm hidden in the aestoroid in Empire Strikes Back. i see what he did there.
You don’t think it's a reference to the Falcon being inspired by a half eaten hamburger?
the canar is there because THE PLANE HAS NO FRIKIN LIFT
Lol.They know nothing
PowerNinja
*canard
It does have lift, but it's all too far back without the canard.
I have one and fly it all the time but one of the motors quit workn!! would anyone know what motor it is so I can get a new one
Make a modified one! I was a bit surprised that Peter's wasn't that modified already! Keep up the awesome videos!
def modify them. make it flyable with the guns installed!
Every Air Hog toy I've bought was absolute junk.
I'm diggin the mic setup! Sounds awesome!
Definitely wanna see you build your own x-wing from scratch. You guys seem to be trustworthy with a final product like that :)
Back in the June 1984 issue of Model Airplane News there was an article/review of an X-wing RC plane (X-1 X-Wing) that was sold only as plans. It was 40" long, 36" wing span and was originally designed for a .25 - .36 gas pusher (Big enough that an actual R2-D2 figure could be used). I think this would be a great electric conversion or even possible EDF conversion. Here is the link with the PDF for the original article. I believe you can still order the plans from them. With Star Wars coming soon, this might have to be my next build!!!! It seemed like too many people enjoyed this video not to share this. How cool would it be to recreate an FPV Death Star trench run?!!!! ".....almost there...." lol.-Chris( www.modelairplanenews.com/blog/2014/07/02/x-1.x-wing-fighter/ )
Take this as a challenge to design a X-Wing that actually flies well.
what about having a downward facing prop at the underneath the rear to stabilize it.
''Remember that moment when you found out Anakin Skywalker supposedly built C3PO?''..
''No. No I don't.'' (Out-geeked hard)
An X-Wing starfighter without its guns is even worse than Jar Jar Binks
or Viceroy
So, the lesson we have learned is to NOT use the 'force' when flying these beasties :) .
Got one on the way... would love to see modifications to be able to fly with the guns on!! :D
I have had my millennium falcon for over five years since it first came outand I've cresh in the walls I played catch with it with my son or another Quad it is by far the toughest badass RC quadcopter out there
Got the X-wing on sale a few months back. Save yourself the time/money and avoid AirHog products altogether.
re-visit this video. you just might be able to adapt a toy quad into the shell and make your X-wing a little badass. I popped the ideas/details in another reply how it just might work.
For the price these sell for, they fly poorly. Air Hogs could have made a better effort. Let Syma or wltoys have a go, they will do better.
I added Coffee stir straws for the cannons
that looks great and it fly's just as good.
Have you tried to design an x-wing based on the results of these flights, but with your FliteTest foam?
Yes, modify them to be capable of combat...
Air hogs= Rip off
I would like to see this with more power, ailerons and micro fpv setup! :D
The best video and review!!! You make me wanna go and buy both drones :)
Theres something out there guys...you may be interested in....maybe not. its called...poontang. you are welcome.
So glad I did not buy this...
I think the x-wing is over-weight and under-powered right out of the box. to make it fly great a little modification is key. after cutting off the top half of the faux nacells to reduce weight and cutting in some flaps in the canards and bending them so as to catch more wind and help keep the nose down since they tend to be tail-heavy anyway, it flies pretty great. but, after a few hard landing I tore off one canard so, I just took the other off and replaced them with small cut-out wings from thin foam board. to attach those I used two toothpicks shoved into the wings and into the fuselage that somewhat mirrored the original canards. you can also adjust your trim by carefully bending the new wings till you have it flying straighter. that little mod makes all the difference and makes it fun as hell to fly now.
Thank you guys for the tips on getting the X-wing to fly. Could you guys make one with 4 engines? I also have Darth Vader's Advanced Tie-fighter. It isn't flying like it use to. If the propeller is chewed up a bit (from eating grass when it crashes), would that cause it to be nose heavy?
Not worth 80$
Air hog planes suck
Brandon Sosa funny I heard the same thing about you
I'm glad Josh Scott is back!
Go Peter!! You have some specialised skills there :D Enjoyed this one
+BMSWEB I bet if he put his mind to it he could make one that really worked and looked right in the air (with guns on)
+RCTV-UK cmj
4x bl, mini canards on gun muzzles, pitch assist or standard on differential upper and lower pods. any number of control boards to make it easier. will probably need leading/trailing edge bracing by this point. cf or BBQ skewers should work depending on wing thickness.
Could you guys add Two more motors to give it better thrust? Because that’s what it seems like it was lacking it was wind speed
I got myself an X-Wing and it was a little tail heavy, but my solution was that when it starts stalling some then I pull the throttle down and it will kinda stabilize a little and then when you want to turn you have to pull the throttle down and turn the direction you want to go, because when you turn without pulling the throttle down the opposite side of the side you are trying to turn will still have somewhat equal thrust to the side you are turning.
can it do dynamic soaring off the back of the gravel pile?
