My House Build Pt6- concrete pours and roof anchors

- CC on for subtitles! Finally we are close to finish with rough construction. I know you all wait for the wood but you will have to wait just a little longer:) The weather was surprisingly warm for this part of the year which was great for work but also feels somewhat unnatural knowing everything should be covered by snow these days.. We got the house ready for the roof, this video is full of concrete forming and concrete pours. I made steel connecting plates which will hold the roof and positioned them so that they are securely anchored in the concrete. They are made from 10 mm thick steel and are secured with four 12mm rebar rods to the concrete. Depending on the weather we mixed the concrete with sika low temperatures additive, It makes the concrete a little harder to work with because it sets faster but I'm quite happy how it turned out. For vertical walls and posts we mostly used 14mm rebar rods and 8mm stirrups, for horisontal beams it depends of the length but usually 16mm rods and 8mm stirrups. Beams above the walls were 12mm rods and again 8mm stirrups.

This is an incredibly well built structure..... Professionals at their very best. You couldn't ask for anything more. Superb job, and a standing ovation for all the skilled tradesmen who worked on this.
wow! I love every detail of it. Ever since I found your channel I was amazed but the quality of the projects, and this is no exception.
Thank you very much Daniel!🙂
@@lignumchannel Hi, Buddy where is part 7 , 8 what about the final look
Seeing this beautiful work with the classical music is super satisfying as always!
HOLY SHI???? Look at all those Rebar Roof Truss Supports. Talk about a Night Of No Sleep. The Rebar Monsters Are Going To Get You!!! This Home is a Fortress. WOW!!!
Those walls are nuclear power station standard!! 👍
I saw the foreman working the lower levels. Good to see her keeping everyone in line. The project is really taking shape. I look forward to the next installment.
Yes she does!😁 Thank you for watching Lyndon!
Steady as she goes, judging from some of the houses around the one you are building, yours will be probably the most modern and gorgeous in the area, a great addition to an already lovely and charming neighborhood. I'm loving every part of this series!
Thank you very much, I'm glad you think so! This neighbourhood is actually just a few hundreds of meters away from where I grew up at:)
So I power on the laptop in the kitchen, look at some junk, the weather, subscriptions...lignum!!
But I don't dare watch yet; must see on the big TV where I'm guaranteed twelve minutes of the finest quality viewing.
Never disappointed. Love the project/s and the channel.
😁thank you so much! Damn, I need to get a better camera so it looks better on a big screen..
LOL! I watched it on a 70". I chalked up the lack of vibrancy to the weather and my macular degeneration. It looked fine.
House is coming along so well, going to look amazing when done. Well done so far - really well filmed too.
Thank you very much Gary! :)
Your house didn't look that big when you started. But now seeing how high those walls were it really gave it some scale to the actual size. I can't wait to see the finished product.
Yes when we marked the footings on the ground, we were really worried how small it felt, but now we worrie how much time it will take to keep it clean and who will change the light bulbs on that ceiling😅..
Looking after you, I've started playing classics on my construction sites... everyone's get ecstatic about it, not knowing what to do!
😁that is a great Idea! I should try it too. I only use it in my videos but on the site we just listen to the radio..
I’m really enjoying this build documentary. It’s so obvious how much thought has gone into the design and build processes.
😁i'm glad you enjoy it!
It seems that the roof will be the cherry on top of this spectacular structure
I sure hope so.. I'm a bit nervous:)
@@lignumchannel Can't wait! Fingers crossed! 😋
That’s turning out so well. You guys are making great progress. Thanks for sharing this with us.
It is getting there.. slowly..🙂 thank you for watching!
Omg all that steel and concrete 😲 this house will last for centuries. Great work! Love the series.
Thank you very much, glad you like the structure!
I had the same thought.
really enjoyed this series of videos. Thank you for sharing and well done.
Hi i'm new subscribers,, from Malaysia.. Thank you for taking us with you in you're journey.❤❤❤
Nice to see more of the final form! And as a one-time clarinetist, I approve of the soundtrack choice. 😁 Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm glad you think it fits the video! :)
I don’t understand why I’m being sooo envy with this. I don’t even understand what’s good for construction, or have a house to compare. That’s an odd feeling. Anyway, I really want to see the final result, the end game, can’t waittt!!!
To be honest... I couldn't really tell at the beginning of the series, where this is going... but after that video you (or at least) really got a sense of the design and space of the house and I am super excited! Thanks for the awesome videos!
Thank you for watching the series Simon! I didn't want to reveal the plans, I thought it would be more fun revealing bit by bit:)
It is very helpful to study from real work. Thank you
I've enjoyed this build so far. Can't wait for the finished home😀. The music 👍
Thank you Anton! :)
good idea for construction
😳😳👏🏼👏🏼 no word. Each part is amazing.
Thank you Atik!
It is going to be one amazing house. But you and wife will make it a warm and comfortable Home!
I sure hope so Robert! Thank you for following the project🙂
As always, amazing work! Here in Portugal the weather is also weird. In addition to the mild temperatures for the season, it hasn't rained at all, our dams are running out of water.
Yeah I get really worried when thinking about it, I remember regular meter high snows when I was a kid and now we rarely even see it..
Sorry to hear that. That is worrisome. :-(
I'm getting excited to see what sort of wonderful wooden roof structure you are planning to share with us.
The lines really came together nicely in this video. It's going to be beautiful!
Good job, good mans, good music. Fantastic.
Thank you!😁
Amzing quality

Wow its agreat work 👏🌷
Love the mono-pitched shed roof
Glad you like it😁
That will be a big ass living room to keep heated.
Yeah, I'm a bit anxious on how it will go..
Perhaps there is a small gas storage facility from Gazprom near the house.
Very nice thanks

USA, THIS is how you build a house, NOT with 2x4's
There’s more than one way to build a good house.
😂😂😂😂
@@shinybaldy two by fours are still no good way to build a house.
I made first frame house 10 years ago and it is still holding up without an isue. Many different methods are great if done correctly and each has its advantages and drawbacks
@@hassiaschbi eh you can build a higher effective insulated wall with 2 by 4 staggered framing than 2 by 6 or even 2 by 8.
People obsess over materials when the issue is the the technique and attention to detail.
Super
I Love The Shape It's So Contemporary!! Looks Great!! Can't wait to see your roof beams, LOL. I am sure they will also impress the Stickbuilders in the USA. Ha Ha.
Of course with your flair for the creativeI am envisioning a glass wall all the way up on what I think is the back garden and I am not sure if y'all have garages but it looks like there are a number of oooh's ands aaah's to look forward to. If you run into Agadmator give him a YO for me!

What a nice house, I learned a lot from this video. Thank you for sharing your journey.
Im curious may I know how thick is the wall? and why are there brick wall and concrete wall? do they have different function?
how the orange bricks hold up by itself with just concrete on the sides
I'm looking forward to seeing the size of your glulam beams. I suspect they will be huge seeing the size of the house. Will you make them yourself ( i know you do curved ones) as Im guessing they will be straight or source from croatia, austria or germany?
good
Awesome! You shouldn't have skimped on the rebar but now it's done... :)
😁yes it will haunt me forever.. I should have placed a few extra rods here and there;)
Next part please. Hello from Turkey
As soon as I have some materials to edit🙂 Greetings from Croatia!
You should rename this video series to My Bullet Proof House…..
Prelijepo, videcemo kako ce na kraju izgledati

Again another excellent video. Thank you for sharing your journey. So are the concrete sections all done?
Almost, I need to pour some concrete for the top of the shed and around the anchors for the glulam post. Glad you like the video! Thank you😁

Hi! An interesting way of fixing the formwork of concrete walls. Can I find out who the manufacturer is? Brand?
Very interesting house design. I'm looking forward to seeing it continue to develop. I'm impressed with the formwork method used. I'm not familar with the metal strap tieing both sides of the form together like that. Here in Aus, I've only seen rods and tube spacers, but I really like the flat strap. Fits nicely between each layer of board and looks to give a lot of support with minimal extra bracing. That crane sure is handy.
Yes this is traditional method used here for as long as I can remember. Doesn't need a lot of equipment but it requires a bit more work than with modern aluminium formwork. And yes, the crane is a life and a back saver😁 Glad you like it Nathan!
I saw the graceful curves at 5:43 and thought "Yes! Curved concrete to complement the forthcoming curved glue-lams!". But then, they slumped back in line.
At 8:06, did you need to use a special formulation of concrete to keep it from flowing downhill and out of your sloped forms?
Very interesting layout. I'm also curious whether the long, windowless wall at the left side of the "courtyard" will shade your home too much, or if you're excluding road noise.
How do your neighbors feel about having such a tall, modern house in the midst of their somewhat smaller, more traditional structures?
Doesn't seem too shaded at 8:16
Regular concrete, we just poured it slowly so it doesn't flow away to much when vibrating. The shading is modeled so that during summer, almost no direct sunlight will enter the interior but during winter when the sun is low, it will heath the dark concrete floor and wall and minimize extra heating (on sunny days ofcourse). But thats on paper, we will see how it will actually work..
Here when asking for a permit, project has to be public for a certain amount of time to allow the neighbors to file a complaint, nobody did so I guess it's ok😁
Good progress, this is coming out beautiful. But you need to post videos more frequently.
Thank you!😁 I'm trying my best to post every 3 weeks but with all the work piling up, I can hardly manage..
@@lignumchannel Just imagine if you didn't loose my resume, I could have helped you 😂😂
Is the orange clay brick/block hollow for insulation?
Odličan posao ljudi, svaka čast. Vaš video treba biti primjer svakome ko planira praviti kuću. Imam pitanje, kolike su dimenzije vaše kuće i koliko će imati m2 ukupno.
Hvala! Cca 210 kvadrata netto sa šupom. cca 12x10.5.
Please, what's the name of the formwork system? What's the name of the buckles holding the boards?
this is an absolute delight besides being fun to watch this I have a query what kind of bricks or blocks do you use, what material are they made of?
These are baked clay blocks, Porotherm profi system. Glad you like the build!
Other than the reinforced pillars, it looks like the blocks are just stuck together with construction adhesive? Is that not dangerous? What about high winds? Or what if the adhesive weakens over several decades?
I live in a place where there are tornadoes and this video made me a little anxious lol
This system is much stronger than classic mortar build. Adhesive is specially designed for this purpose and can't be used with just any bricks but prorotherm profi. Don't worry I didn't invent this method🙂, It's tested, proved and in use for several decades predominately in Europe. Adhesive won't lose its properties.
It's lovely to see the progress on you house. Isn't anti-seismic construction a pain in the neck - we really don't have to go to the lengths you do, here in the UK. As for Mozart. In contrast to the flute and the harp, he was fascinated by the clarinet, or more accurately, the basset horn, which plays a third lower; which he discovered late in his life . He found something portentous in its dark notes. He gave this instrument great prominence in The Magic Flute, because he associated the sound with Masonic rituals. It is believed by many that this Clarinet Concerto was really written for the Basset Horn and that it contains various references to his later Requiem (during the writing of which he died). Did he have premonitions of mortality? I think so - he was already rather ill.
Well this kind of build is a standard here so it is just normal to us. It sure would be easier and faster if we werent in an earthquake zone.. And regarding to Mozart, you really now his work to details. Is music your profession?
@@lignumchannel Hi there. I really must stop giving you these sleeve notes. When I hear the music you put on your videos, I remember all sorts of (probably useless) information relating to the piece being played. I love music, but earned my living teaching computer communications (what happens on the wire). In truth I have a lot of interests, mainly technical or scientific, but in particular, I enjoy reading Italian literature (in lingua originale).
I'm really looking forward to seeing what you will do with engineered wood on your house. I see some of the fixtures are already in place.
It's really starting to take shape. Great work soo far!
Will there be external insulation? There is a lot of concrete in this build, I belive you will have high heating bills without external insulation. Regarding ventilation, is there a plan for mechanical ventilation with heatrecovery?
I will have heath pump with floor heating. External walls will be covered with 15cm off styrofoam and ventilated larch siding, no heath recovery system is planned. Large glass wall to the south will let the sun heath inside to warm up the floor and concrete wall to minimize additional heating. During the summer, roof overhang will keep the inside of the house in shade.
@@lignumchannel That seems very well thought out! Looking forward to the next video!
Such a cool series, love watching how it all comes together. How long has it taken to get to this point ?
Thank you! Glad you like it! :) It has been 6 months.. We are spending as much time on it as we can next to the regular work we have..
@@lignumchannel Sounds good Its coming along nicely, Your work is super impressive.
Just asking, is a house or a fallout shelter
Bro, excellent work, if i will build a house ine time, please come to germany and build it for me 😂💯💯💯💯💪🏼👍🏼
😁sure thing!
Crikey that's a hard way to build a house.
great job, I am very curious how you will solve the thermal insulation after all this concrete.
Probably like most new European homes with a full heat protection made of styrofoam panels on the outside
@@Jonasmonasonas For this building, I bet they will use Rockwool or Graphite Styrofoam.
@@zketizk graphite Styrofoam is what I'm talking about. But rockwoll how would use that?
The house will be covered with 15 cm styrofoam + wooden larch siding. I have regular Styrofoam in the project but I'm considering graphite.
@@lignumchannel thank you
This is am amazing build in nz at the moment it costs $3000 to $4500 per square meter for a standard 4x2 timber house this type of house here would be on excess of $10000 per square metre
Ok, I'm moving to new zeland;) here this kind of build costs somewhere around 1000€ for a finished house per m2.
How is insulation applied to this type of structure? Exterior gets wrapped in rigid foam? Electrical is run through surface-mounted conduit?
Yes, 15 cm of styrofoam. Some wiring goes inside the brick, and some surface mounted. depends on the finish.
can you share a link to the brick type? this seems like a great choice
This is porotherm profi system.
What kind of brick is that
Wait, are the red bricks just layed on top of each other without any mortar in between?
This is a dryfix system, it uses glue instead of traditional mortar. Much stronger and with less thermal bridges.
At 10:52 you see the roof ankers placed ot an angle. How do you plan to fill the missing bit?
I will use concrete with little water and a little bit smaller aggregate. But I will consult a structural engineer first to see if it is even necessary to fill the gaps..
when concrete is allowed to free fall from the top of a form the aggregate and cement will separate. this leads to the bad finish quality seen at 4:52 and can potentially create weak concrete - you should instead insert the hose to the base of the form and then move the hose up as the form fills. this is similar to the "tremie method".
Yes it really bothered me to see some segregation here and there, especially on the ground floor. I hoped to maybe leave the concrete wall visible but I changed my mind. I talked to few engineers and we concluded it is just cosmetic with no fear for structural weakness. If I had the experience I have now when I started this build, I would pour all the walls with a bucket with a rubber hose, also concrete with much less water content.
@@lignumchannel i'm glad you had it checked out (and glad the structure came up ok) and i agree with your new approach. in australia concretors as a trade are notorious for taking the path of least resistance and it looks like its a universal problem.
Which country is this???
Bungalow?
Amazing. I'm curious to know about the brick frame of the house. Was there a structural reason for the choice, or something else?
The house was supposed to be just concrete and wood originally but with the steel and glulam prices almost doubling during the last year, we opted for this method. Structurally as strong but cheaper and with better thermal properties. More work with finishing though..
@@lignumchannel Thanks. Cant wait to see more.

😅ahaha, thank you very much Ivan!
Jer sam vidio vaše divne proizvode i beton me malo iznenadio. Ali svejedno thumbs up.
