It's amazing to watch these guys work. The older I get the more I appreciate the guys and gals who make the effort to master their craft.
Retired now, laid brick, block & stone all my life. Stu, your technique is spot on. A pleasure to watch. I wish I could jump on the scaffolding and build, knock the banter around and enjoy working the craft again. 👍

The attention to detail of your door and window openings is superb, bordering on bespoke. Here in the states masons typically throw down a rusty piece of angle iron and slap bricks on top. It works well enough at first, but not long term. Your work is amazing.
I just started college doing the bricklaying course and watching your videos have helped me so much and got so many tips and tricks of you. Absolutely brilliant stuff, hope I can do what you do one day, all the best 😀

Mint brickwork .. I always use the profile for soldier courses .. gauge the profile up and you can see if you need to open or tighten up to make it work. Also, a tip for you maybe you already know but do away with the top line and set your profile along the top edge of the course and you can use this as your line to get down to and straight edge to follow :).
My bum twitched at that lintel not being propped too 😬🤣
I always use profile for a longish span of soldiers.. you can mark out your gauge on the profile.. brickwork comes out perfect
Was just about to say that saves picking up the tape all the time plus get a much better finish with even perp's 😉

I always prop the middle of lintel to stop that little bit of bounce or vibration whilst laying the soldiers.. especially on openings that size

Should have a temporary prop in the middle of the lintels until the mortar has cured mate, also takes the bounce out the longer spans when laying the courses over the openings and makes it easier. Cheers
These are heavy duty lintels, cheers
@@Stucrompton1 Doesn't matter, they need propping until mortar has sufficiently cured. Even a RSJ/PFC etc. Needs propping

I'm convinced that I must be the only bricklayer in the world who fills all the holes up when laying soldier courses using semi engineering or perforated bricks.
How do you stop it from coming out the other side , to time consuming mate plus if you have a good joint i.e your perp is full job done 😉
@@DylanGSXR I have the brick in my hand, and use the trowel to put mortar in. Its really not that time consuming or hard mate. The holes are there to be filled with mortar and to act as a key, not to be left as empty voids.
