      Dinuba gets 1% of the ~8% sales tax on everything sold on BestBuy's website in California. The consultant gets 10% of that 1%, and BestBuy gets half. Dinuba keeps 40% of the initial 1% for themselves.

    • @bobuhnitza
      @bobuhnitza 2 місяці тому +5

      Hmmm. That % is more tolerable. Although at the 7:30 mark, it says that Dinuba has in total paid Best Buy $50M. If that’s the corp 40% and the consultant gets 10% that means he’s still been paid $12.5M.

      Soon that bubble will burst, now that UA-cam pretty much secured it's position. Even Amazon who owns AWS struggles to compete against Google globally. Imagine 5 minute ads between videos? Probably will remove unlimited uploads to just 100 videos or less (Like google photos). But if you don't like it where will you go?
      That's how systems like this stay in place only hurting the majority of people. Like Suburban Sprawl, Cars, and Annexations... but those who have the best out of those situations do not seek change, unless they're selfless. Which is how common?

      Reagan's tax cuts, Clinton's China WTO help, Bush's war, Obama's settling with insurance companies, Biden's attempt to address loan debt, and Trumps tax cuts. It almost feels like we went full circle. Who benefited the most from these decisions?
      Either helping companies or negotiating with them, we haven't ever gone fully after them.
      But how could we? When both main parties are backed by those very corporations? How can we expect total faithful public decisions from most of our politicians who live off those donations?
      In the case of Tiktok, the world really asks what the difference is between owning facebook or owning Tiktok. Both governments use them to collect information on everyone. So do the politicians act to protect us or the companies? Maybe a little of both, but never seen them act fast on Google's behavior. Plus they've been doing it for decades now lol.

      I agree. And there are expenses with warehouse energy uses and labor expense too and maintenance costs for the warehouse. No other cities were willing to take those costs for the city. I'd say that Dinuba made a great investment for the city and it's residents. I'd say a 50% tax revenue back to the corporation is an okay deal as well, though I would bargain for a lesser percentage even though corporations have more leverage in this case. Broker commission however...might be too high and should have been a one-time commission fee in my eyes, though it's not illegal. It was part of the deal. I'd say its better for a city to gain some revenue (in this case its a lot) than no revenue.
      Reedley seems to want that Dinuba privilege without doing the work. What a way to complain and try to use the law to punch down on other's success. At this point, corporations do much better with those tax money than the government.

    I have NO problem with this arrangement. It results in COMPETITION between cities and among businesses.
    If the cost of doing business is reduced with these tax rebates, most of the rebate goes towards lower prices -- NOT towards profits. Competition sees to that.
    The REAL problem is the tax ITSELF. CA has the 8th highest average sales tax rate in the nation. We consumers pay that tax.
    Moreover, if anyone who thinks more CA taxes go towards "roads, schools," etc. -- they are delusional.
    For instance, we pay the nation's highest gasoline taxes, but our road are ranked worse than all but 5 states. 70%-80% of any higher funding goes for even higher "public servant" salaries and Cadillac benefits (especially pensions).
    BTW, CA local governments have an astonishing 470 higher tax proposals on the ballot in Nov 2024 -- 80+% more than in the last Presidential election (2020). MANY of the props are for increases in the local sales taxes.
