    I found studying great photographers has been the biggest help to improving my photography.

    I buy vintage lenses. They produce awesome images imo. Lately it’s been obscure 70’s Japanese and East German glass

      drop the tea on some brand names to look for in these respective vintage regions

      @@thepolardesert I’ve been buying petri lenses lately. They worked with topcon in their early days and their glass is really fairly sharp and pretty cheap. Be mindful though, they came in 2 mount types. The petri cc auto is a proprietary breach lock system and they are pretty much impossible to find adapter for. Buuut, you can also get m42 mount petri lenses for cheap too. I shoot petri 35mm cameras so I have both types of lens mounts. I can’t tell a difference between the 55mm with the breach mount and the later m42s glass. If anything it’s coating differences.
      East German I would recommend looking into some meyer optik lenses or some pentacon lenses.
      Soviet lenses are also good, the industar series of lenses are quite sharp. They’re Leica lens clones so they’re L39 mount. The Helios lenses are pretty well known own at this point.
      I have a lot of photos taken with these lenses on my instagram if you want to check out my work. Its miketothek on ig

    I've used my canon 1000d for over 15 years and recently upgraded to a canon r8. It does make photographing way easier because of the better autofocus and bigger sensor and everything, but at the end of the day it is my composition and choice of subject and how to photograph that subject that makes the pictures nice. Sure the newer camera makes pictures possible that weren't possible before but if the composition of that picture is off its gonna look bad no matter what camera it was taken with

    righto.
    getting 'the eye' to see that anything can be a photo object requires effort.

    I did my photography degree 2006-2009 and there were cameras released at that time that I thought would make me an amazing photographer if I had them. Its amazing how cheap I can now get second hand cameras which are better and more recent than that time-frame. I just got a Nikon D600 full frame, 24mp camera and I'm still the same photographer I always was. Its you, not the gear, most of the time.

    Lol actually I need gear..now I have old zoom which is sharp at F8 or F10 and I need something with brighter aperture and still be sharp because light..and yeah, I used to have apsc 30mm f1.4 sigma and now on fullframe Im saving my ass of to buy sigma 50mm 1.4 to have the same feeling I loved the apsc version for..now I have FE 50mm 1.8 which is usable at f2.8 (pixel sharp tho) but for the vibes Im amining for I need 1.4..and to be sharp at wide open..so yeah, you need gear if you know what will work for you, but your point is also valid, because even with my low cost gear I can obviously cook

      sharpness isnt everything

    • @levy.streets
      @levy.streets Місяць тому

      @@mortalens well depends it depends but his point is u can produce a sharp image with a best lens with a brigther aperature compare to other old lens or kit lens which only can produce very sharp image at f8. Which this means that good or best lens can make ur photography easier with higher aperature , very usable sharpness wide open and better flare resistance, less chromatic aberations ,distortion and vignetting.

    • @mortalens
      @mortalens Місяць тому

      @@levy.streets less than 20 years ago, nobody cared about sharpness, or aberrations, or vignette, or contrast, because the wide apertures let you use faster film. The obsession with perfection is kinda crazy today. Then again, Nikon's new 50/1.2 does look pretty good on my 45 megapixels haha

    To a degree. I dropped $6000 on two very nice cameras and lenses 5 years ago and haven’t gotten to much since. Although I haven’t done as much as I’ve wanted with these cameras in the first place so maybe that’s it. And I have bought things since, just more film and niche that’s all has been much cheaper and I use it all.

    Absolutly right..... I have done this for years..... now I am older and wiser. I bought the Fuji X-E3 and the 18-55 kit lens 5 years ago, and I am not buying anything new.... I'm done and happy

    Since i got myself the right camera for me, which was the x-t30, i went thebother way instead lol. Aince then i owned: an Olympus om-40, a nikon d200 and a d1x, a voigtlander vito B, and i won't bother mentioning the point and shoot cameras. I am so spoiled with my main camera that i go backwards to stimulate my skills
