Loved your repot. Your orchid looked very nice. I have all my Cattleya’s in clay -pots with moss and bark. It’s working out well in my environment. Thanks for sharing and have a nice weekend. 🥰👏🤗
It was so helpful to hear your thoughts as you went about this repot so thank you! You even answered my question about how to position the climbing new growth 😉. A few of my orchids are climbers and I was never sure if I was doing the right thing when repotting time rolled around.
and then there's the less than 10 minute system I default to when I have a lot to do or if it is very pot bound. I take the orchid over to the hose and put on the super jet tip and blast away. The media comes out, the dead roots come off, the root mass separates, and then I repot it. I realize not everyone can do this, but it is wonderful if you can. (I'm also testing out cypress mulch as a media. So far, I am impressed. It dries a lot faster than I would expect and some plants that were on the struggle bus started new roots in a week. And for $5 a bag, versus $50 or more for bark, I don't care if it only lasts a year.)
As for cypress mulch, interesting! I need to look into it. $5 a bag is a steal. Tree fern is even more expensive than the bark. Keep me updated on how this goes!
@@NicoleDeanna oh, you would easily be caught up on your repots. I did 50 in 4 days. I think I spent more time trudging back and forth into and out of the house getting pots than anything else.
@@michaelmccarthy4077 I love this idea. I iwish I can see it in action. One day I will leave this city and have a jet hose. haha, I still have like 30 pots to do, i've been procrastinating bad.
Repotting for me is almost always a nightmare because I let them go too long before doing it. Great video showing the challenges one has to deal with it. Sorry you broke off that other new growth. I've done that a few times and it's so frustrating! Oh, I bought 4 more orchids online yesterday. 🤣 I told you, the addiction is real!!! 2 are Vanda types, and I still don't know how I'll approach growing them. They're seedlings, so they weren't very expensive and won't be a huge loss "money wise" when they die. lol But I will give it my all and hope for the best. Do you have Vandas? Have you tried them? Any ideas for growing them in a desert climate indoors? Like I said, I'm not being too optimistic that they'll do well here.
Hahah! You got several more! I understand though, is an addiction 😂 vandas that have neofinetia Falcata in them grow well for me. So I'm talking, mini phals. The bigger ones are possible to thrive indoors but I don't have the time to frequently water them. I recently bloomed the Vanda Twinkle last month and it's still in bloom. What works for me is something that gives good moisture but dries fast, so I have them in 4" clay pots with 💯 sphagnum moss and it works well! The key is that the pots are small and they dry within a day. I hope they grow well for you!
@@NicoleDeanna And...today I bought 3 Catasetum type orchids from SVO. lol Ok. so now I'm done buying for reals. 🙂 I only have one Catasetum type and have been wanting more.
Hi Nicole, great video! I have a question about my Rlc Waianae Leopard ‘Ching Hua. Seems I'm always asking you questions about it. It finally has put out new growth, but my problem is with the roots. They've grown like crazy (good, I know) but now they're coming out of the pot. They havent filled the pot but many have grown straight down. So now I have 5 roots out of the bottom hole, one of which has started to rot. I guess I need to repot but don't want to as I know that will stall growth. Suggestions?
That's a good question! I have an answer based off my own experience with that one DON'T DO IT 😂 when I first got mine, I repotted in November after getting it because I wanted to get out of the nursery pot it was in and there were no new growths pushing with new roots, and let me tell you, it sulked for months, to the point that all of the old roots died and I didn't think it was gonna make it. I learned from that one. When repotting outside of spring / summer, you want to get those new roots early because if you disturb them, they may dump, and these bifoliate cattleyas are finicky. It can be done, but I'd wait till the fall to not take any chances! ❤️
How do you hydrate your moss? I tend to do it as I’m using it which doesn’t allow it to be nice and fluffy like yours. I end up having to squeeze it then pull apart so it’s not as compacted. Do you do it with less water and leave it to spread through the moss?
I take the moss and drench a bunch of it with water in a bowl fully submerging it. Once it's saturated, I squeeze the excess water out, fluff it out with my hands and find it easy to use :)
It is really helpful to show a repotting where you change your mind and all of your thoughts as you work. I usually end up making changes as I work.
Thank you! You never know what's in the pot :)

I'm so glad it's working well for you! I feel like it's almost fool proof because it is able to dry quickly. Thank you for watching :))
Hi Nicole. Those roots look absolutely YUMMY!! I love seeing orchid roots. Awesome repot and very helpful tips. Thank you. ❤😊

Thank you for this beautiful repot Video ❤
Great video 😂I go back and forth and back and forth on what to do sometimes too! So many different ways to do it and none is wrong. 😂
So true 😁
