I finally got it! My tip is roll your r and then slowly transition into the ř while you roll. Roll it and slowly and the g sound rather then trying to do it at the same time instantly. That worked for me I struggled forever and then suddenly got it after trying that one time
Speaking about your job: as a child I went to a logoped because I couldn't pronounce this specific "Ř."... Finally this fact helped me successfully and now, as an adult, I realize how important a logoped is for children, regardless of the problems they have, when it comes to "speech", in any language! A big "👍👍" for your job!
By saying "Upper Serbian", did you mean "Upper Sorbian"? Although we do have the letter Ř in our Upper Sorbian alphabet, we do not have the same sound that it represents in Czech. We pronounce it very lazily as š (after p and k and very rarely after t) or s (usually, but not always, after t): Our "při" is pronounced as "pši", our "křiž" is pronounced as "kšiž" and our "třiatřiceći" (33) is pronounced as "tsi-a-tsiceći" (as in "Třista a třiatřiceći třelcow třěla z třechi do třista a třiatřiceći całtow.") But thank you very much for mentioning us! :D
Great & very useful video 👍. I'm currently practicing "Říkání Ř" ;-). For people from Poland, this is the most difficult consonant to learn, it is similar to Polish RZ and R pronounced at the same time.
I'm Indian, so I can very easily manage the rolled/trilled R, but the consonant cluster itself is very unusual for me. Needed these physical cues to figure out what needs to happen.
THANK YOU! I'm just starting to learn Czech and this letter was making me cry 😭 but I think I will be able to practice it now! My goal was to be able to order tea in Czech by the time I go back to Prague, but now I think maybe my goal should just be, pronounce ř correctly 😅
Czech is one of the very few languages to have this sound, other than Czech some dialects of Polish have it, some dialects of Kashubian, Dzonkha, Kobon, Ormuri, European Portuguese (to some extent), some dialects of Silesian, Northern dialects of Slovak (near the Polish border), some dialects of Spanish, Chicahuaxtla Trique, & Tsakonian also have it
@@autentickacestina I can say both separate but at the same time - even that I'm polish - it's imposible 🙈 I guess long time ago we had similar sound but we lost it - we have rz and ż and it is now the same sound - ž. Anyway czech language is really beautiful - for polish people sounds cute ❤️ I wish I could learn it, greetings from Poland! 🇵🇱❤️🇨🇿
@@Lemurektr Initially I had the same impression regarding ř, that this sound is just polish rz or ż (like in word: úřad, dřevo) and this the way how I usually pronounce this letter, but after this video I understood that beginning of ř is more vibrating like rż (but not in every word). However, regarding ž - this is more like polish ź (or even żi), because ž is much softer than ż (compare żaba and žába). So for me ž is like č (sound between cz and ć) and š (sound between sz and ś).
Hello. I have never been able to roll an r. I have tried a few weeks. Do you think its possible for an adult to ever get the r roll when someone has never their whole life?
Hi! I definitely think it is possible! With practice you will get to it. I know a Czech friend who himself was unable to roll r till adulthood and with practice and determination he finally learnt it ;)
I think your method is amazing but it's just that I think I never get to pull it off; perhaps only with a native speaker listening to me trying to utter this phoneme would I be confident enough I really manage to do it correctly but personally I think I don't do it at all😵💫 It's a pity cause, as with most Slavic languages, I find Czech really beautiful. Happy New Year by the way!

I was in a call with my Czech friend and he was really impressed with my progress in pronouncing this bizarre letter, thank you so much for the tips!
Thanks for sharing, I am so happy it helped!😎
This is by far the BEST tutorial to pronounce Ř I've ever heard, I hope more people see this video, you deserve the praise imo 👏
Thank you!!!!😍
Roztomilé a užitečné video! Mám rád první trik, nevěděl jsem to, ale opravdu to funguje!

Thanks for the tips! This is so hard but I appreciate your videos.
Thank you!
The first method actually worked, briefly. Thanks, mate!

it's like pronouncing š and r together very fast
yeah ;)
Thanks a lot😊
Za málo 😉
Excellent ! (This comes from a lover of Slavic languages in the USA...☺ )
😎
The sound kind of reminds me of the Welsh 'rh'
cool
Tnx God I'm Slavic (Croatian), not much problem for me
Good for you😉
Very nice video. When "Ř" appears in the middle of a word, as in "potřebuji" or "samozřejmě", is it also pronounced softly? So something like an “Š”?
Thank you! Well not really, it pronounced the same in the beginning and in the middle. 😉 The only difference it the stress on the first sylabe.
úžasné díky
jsem rád, že se líbilo ;)
Great, this confirms my imitation attempts to combine "rr" with a French "j" sound 😁 Thanks!

I hear polish "r" and "ż" but like it was "rż" connected to each other. Are there any differences between czech "Ř" and polish "Ż"?
Im am not polish expert, but I would say in the czech ř the toungue is vibrating, while in ž it stands still. The position is similar.

@@autentickacestina haha okay! I asked my mother if she could do it - she could and her response was you can either do it or you can't 😅
I speak Greek and that was fairly easy
Sounds the same as polish "rz" in most words, at least to me, do you think a Czech would notice my accent?
It is hard to tell since I cannot hear you but generally polish "rz" sounds to me more like ž, so I think a Czech would notice :)
And after years of practice....🤣🤣

that "R" sound is also in Polish ,so it's easier for us
yes, it is very similar
I think it sounds like a German R sound plus sch sound
🤯🤯
🤷♂️
Ř
Jsem z Indonesie a ucim se česky v Brno
Díky, ať ti to jde!🙌
it sounds like the letter "ź" in polish
co kurwa
chyba chodzi ci o ż/rz
Sounds like RŽ in Croatia/Serbian
thats true
is so stressful
😅
Is Ř,ř a "žr" sound, actually?
It is like that but not quite the same
@@autentickacestina thank you for the answer
why do you people need to have this xD its so unnecesary complicated and TŘ or STŘ is even worse i think i will never be able to do this lol
With time and practise you will manage! 👍
can i just pretent the pronunciation of this letter is ʒ , cuz it's too hard😂
