Ahhh so good! ADHD is so tricky since it can manifest in so many different ways. It took 27 years to diagnose mine and mostly because I was not a hyper person physically, but my mind was the hyperactive one. The unfinished projects are so frustrating I struggle with it too. It’s very impressive to see you create this huge mutant project and not stop. Gives me hope! Since I also have so many projects and I tend to leave them eventually. One of the hardest things to explain to people too! Thank you! Loved Mangle! He would be my bestie.

Accurate. That’s how it is. I never thought I would see my issues in physical form 😅
The fact that he build himself got me like… oh. The many eyes… yes! Exactly. Omg.
I feel like I am always doing so many things but I often left them unfinished and I keep a journal because I forget. Also, I have notes of when I did this or that and when something else needs to be done because… I forget. Usually I’m working and I remember that I wanted to check something and boom, distracted. I have learned to exist like this but it was an interesting journey.
I’m 33 and just recently (28) was diagnosed with ADHD and boy oh boy… yes. Makes so much sense.
I already had diagnosis of depression and anxiety so I never thought much of my weird brain antics, but now that I know I can look back and make sense of everything. If only mental health was taken seriously. My life wasn’t terribly hard, but it would have been better. Maybe my depression and anxiety would have not developed.

I was the same way, almost to a T, and then got on Strattera, it helps your neurons fire and connect properly rather than just being speed like the other meds. It, surprisingly, stopped my anxiety too, which I hadn't planned on medicating, so that is nice lol. I feel like I have superpowers because sometimes I walk into a room, think I forgot what I was doing, then the memory pops back into my head and I can actually do what I was attempting to. It's pretty amazing to just have a freaking memory that works lol

So relatable haha I thought I wrote that comment!! I’m 28 and only got diagnosed last year. It was such a relief to get diagnosed and help explain why my brain does the things it does. I started getting help and my meds I think completely changed my life. My anxiety and sense of dread and overwhelm by the most simplest of tasks (that seemingly everyone else has no issue with) has slowly gone away the more I’ve been able to focus and accomplish things

Whenever I feel bad about my mental health, I just remember that I'm a very kind person and very considerate of others becoz of my conditions.

Beautiful piece Anthony! I love how industrious Mangle is... starting as a ball that just rolled around... and then figuring out how to start building himself into a functioning being. As a person who is also challenged with ADHD, I see it as both problematic and a superpower. There are many great artists and creators who have ADHD. It is a fantastic strength to have endless ideas! Most people can't be as creative as a person with ADHD. But it does present challenges that make it difficult to function in the same way that people without it do. Inside Mangle's torso, I am imaging a beautiful, glowing heart that gives him strength and hope to push through and find ways around the obstacles. I believe as he navigates through life, he will find ways to complete his body... reconnect the broken wires and continue to add parts to until he feels whole. Different from others perhaps, but whole. All of those extra eyes will come in handy in searching for parts!

You did an amazing job creating the personification of a very real struggle. Most of the time, unmanaged ADD is the cause of other issues. The truth of it, adults who have untreated ADHD also suffer from anxiety. It’s hard to quantify boundless energy with the inability to stay on task. Once treated, we still have boundless energy, but we have the ability to see the functional timeline between where we are now and a due date. We still have many irons in the fire, but we are aware of the process of each task and where they fall within a timeline, therefore creating a good pace to get boxes checked without a stressful cram session moments before the bell rings. I’m in my 50s and I take medication for my ADD. I was only diagnosed in my 40s. I’m also a teacher and never considered my time management issues as stemming from ADD until a psychiatric nurse practitioner pointed it out during a med management meeting for my depression. Having less stress over a list of well managed tasks has improved my anxiety. Improved anxiety has lessened my depression. As an educator, I understand parents don’t want to over medicate kids, but… refusing to acknowledge and seek management options for childhood ADHD can lead to difficult situations as an adult. In my day, I was just labeled a behavior problem, overly emotion, and unfocused. In reality, I didn’t have the skills to self-regulate my ADHD. The fallout of my “irresponsibility” for the focus required to complete tasks lead to me getting in trouble and then to meltdowns I had over what I perceived as unfair punishment. Now we understand the brain chemistry behind ADHD, we can teach the skills.

I have one question tho. Do you also feel like some of the symptoms for ADHD or Autism doesn't apply to you? Like the one about "not getting jokes" doesn't happen to me. It makes me doubt my condition even tho I was already professionally diagnosed.

    • @dracothewarrior4316
      @dracothewarrior4316 2 роки тому +3

@@charfree6888 that's the thing about autism: it's different for everyone. What applies to you may not apply to someone else with the same diagnosis and vice-versa
And to answer your question: yes, sometimes. Most people with ADHD can't sit still for 2 seconds and can't focus on anything, but it's the exact opposite for me. Sometimes, once I get hyperfocused on something, you'd have to grab me and drag me away from whatever i'm currently doing. Other times, I can't focus on something to save my life. Also, I can sit as still as a statue when i feel like it.

I really like that he is overall very nice, and doesn't seem like he's doomed like the others.
If you were to do another wanderer, I'd be delighted if you did hyper empathy syndrome, which both me and my girlfriend have. It's a very odd issue where your own emotions get mostly or entirely reliant on those of others. You actively try to make people happy, as that makes you happy, but you absorb any negativity around you like a sponge, and you can't escape it. It's very strange, but it can actively help people as you are able to tell how they feel very easily.

Oddly enough the design of this Wanderer has some components that could relate to OCD as well, especially the wandering eyes being used more figuratively as a form of intrusive thoughts interrupting the train of thought and never getting a moment’s rest. This is by far my favorite face design you’ve done as well, perfectly sinister in a minimalist way. The expression says it all.

I love your sculptures, but I personally didn't feel this one captured ADHD as well as it could've. As a person with ADHD myself, I feel like I'm constantly running on a motor. I have to keep moving constantly, and I just feel like this sculpture didn't really capture that kind of energy, the need to constantly do stuff.
Although, I know everyone's experience with ADHD is different, and not all people with ADHD are hyperactive. I just feel like if you were going with a more broader portrayal of ADHD, that sense of movement could've been implemented somehow.
That's just my opinion though, and otherwise I really like this one!! I love how friendly he is

I love the wanderer series and seeing ADHD last is so appropriate. I'm a fellow ADHD sufferer and actually used your videos as a coping mechanism to help me concentrate on my own art. I had a hard time not scrolling on my phone so playing your videos gave me the stimulation I need as well as teaching me so much throughout all of your content! This is so interesting. I have ADHD and you did a really good job with the portrayal.
Though personally, I see my ADHD less as a spooky monster, and more as just a little child that likes to misbehave. I have to take care of her like I would parent an actual child. When she’s calm I can focus on my work, but when she wants to throw tantrums I can’t do anything and it’s frustrating. This is also why I don’t want to have actual children. It’s exhausting enough dealing with the one who lives in my head.
Sometimes I love her though. She’s smart and creative and kind. She’s taught me so much and given me so much empathy and patience for others. I imagine this is how a lot of parents feel about their kids. Annoyed but you still love them and need to accept that they are yours to take care of.

I've never related to such a grim idol before. The multiple sets of eyes to convey the input overload that comes with a spastic stream of consciousness. All the broken wiring you use to illustrate how that information can't physically translate into action for the poor soul. The barrier between his impaired body and his increased perception being a cold metal to flesh border reminds me of how hard it is to appreciate the advantages of your own condition and how easy it is to convince yourself you're simply broken. What a deep and poetic figure.

Man, if this ever got turned into a show or video game, I can just imagine a scene introducing this guy
He's rummaging through a pile of trash for new parts when the protagonist accidentally spooks him, causing his head to turn around so fast to see who it is that it pops out of his robotic body. His head roles over to the protagonist's feet, where after taking a second to recover he looks up and goes "Oh! Oh dear um, could you- could you please be a- of service and put me back th-the robot- my body?"
He seems like a really fun character to be around

I totally understand how you feel about being the “poster child of ADHD” I got my diagnosis when I was 6, but my parents wanted to have me tested from as young as 3. As I grew up, it became clear that my case had symptoms that overlapped with autism. Developmental delay, trouble in social situations, and susceptibility to sensory overload were all things I went (and still go) through. It’s a daily struggle, but the way you described Mangle reminded me of me. I’m so glad I can see myself as this cool little robot fellow :) New sub!

I love the sculpture! I'd like to see maybe something symbolizing Hyperfixating in Mangle as well? I find that hyperfixating is a huge part of how my ADHD portrays itself, but also small things like stimming or being sensitive to lights, sounds, temperature, and visuals

Maybe you could do *rage* next since you have anxiety. Rage can sometimes be a product of anxiety actually. It’s something that wells up over time bottled in your soul and some people don’t know how to let it out, nor would they want to at the time. It’s like heat bomb, it will increase in heat flowing brighter and brighter until it explodes unless simmered. I know this because I’ve experienced it several times. Would be a fun experiment. Also kind of want to see what you would do with a rage like monster.
