    For a complete 180 on this band try “These Eyes” Burton Cummings has a great voice. The guitar players formed The BachmanTurner Overdrive after theGuess Who broke up.. they had a few big hits you might want to try.

      Yep you got it the "Woman" is America herself. Now go back and re read the lyrics and they make complete sense, but totally different then the this is a romance song about not wanting American Women. Greatest Anti Vietnam War song. For instance the American Woman going to mess your mind. Is no we are not going to war with you and slaughter our Young Men so your Military Complex can make Millions. We are going to save 10,000's of your young men by giving them a safe haven. The American Leadership could not believe we would not do as we were told.

    Burton Cummings is a world class vocalist. As far as mics go, he is using a Shure SM58. It's a hundred dollar mic (now), but there are still many singers who still choose that mic for stage use because it gives a good vocal sound and it's built like a tank. I have sworn by them myself for decades now. But even the best, most expensive mic in the world doesn't have a turn up the talent knob on it, LOL. Hand Me Down World, Bus Rider, Share the Land, No Time... these are some more awesome tracks from this fantastic Canadian band.

  • @scottjohnston1028
    @scottjohnston1028 10 місяців тому

    Actually, that is a Shure SM58 microphone. That mic currently sells for around $150 and still is one of the gold standard vocal mics in use to this day and has hardly changed since this video was recorded. What probably has changed though is the back end processing which then would have been highly analogue (old circuit and possibly tube technology) vs. today's digital (computer) processing. Having said that, his voice would sound great on any mic.

    This was a protest song and 'American Woman' was a metaphor for the US government, US foreign policy, and US aggression overseas. The song resonated with Canadians but also with Americans critical of their own government. It was a risky move by The Guess Who as they're Canadian and risked being barred from the United States.

    I've been buying and using Salads Cymbals, made in Columbia, South Carolina. Great sound at a great price. I have The Nemesis line. They have 8 lines of cymbal styles. Great customer service and a trade win program if you wanna unload unwanted gear.

      SHAKIN ALL OVER IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE GUESS SONG BUT IT SEEMS TO BE FORGOTTEN BY ALMOST EVERYBODY EXCEPT THE MOST EXTREME GUESS WHO FANS.

    Interesting to see them post - Randy Bachman. I think that guitarist is named Kurt Winter? Canadians can correct me. And Burton… All dressed up. I’m thinking that this may be a good seven years after the song was written? Still good, but possible that earlier versions had more energy.

      Bachman left after American Woman was released in 1970. He had converted to Mormonism. Later in the ‘70s, Bachman Turner Overdrive had huge hit, Taking Care of Business. Chod, that’s one for you to react to.

      Yes the guitarist is Kurt Winter. He joined after Randy Bachman left the band in 1971. Guess Who Live at the Paramount is a great album with this lineup.

    No autotune in this era thus no need for live versions of the song! Worst way to hear a song for the first time!

    Featured in the movie “American Beauty” (1999). Funny tho, I believe this is supposed to be an anti-war song.
