A similar cycle you can easily find in scripture. People, as a whole, tend to follow the cycle of: Humility -> Prosperity -> Pride -> Collapse -> (Repeat).

“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.” The quote, from a postapocalyptic novel by the author G. Michael Hopf, sums up a stunningly pervasive cyclical vision of history.
The thing I find interesting is the reason it's so pervasive is that it holds shreds of truth, just large enough for people to see and connect to what they know, yet so small it's logical they're overlooked by most.
It's total delusion. There's no exact measurement for a "time" and there is no specific criteria to differentiate Hard Time A from Hard Time B. And a bigger destroyer of this foolishness is that there has NEVER been a good time. For every winner there is a loser. It's evidence that we have much less losers AND simultaneously much less winners than we think. A paradox that is meant to free strong organisms but imprisons weak ones.
Sounds plausible at first, but this makes more sense... "Hard times create strong men, strong men gain absolute power, absolute power corrupts, corruption creates hard times." This quote is from me lol, using observation, discernment and my knowledge of history.
Colin you missed a key concept of the quote to make your point and in doing so exemplify it’s meaning. The good times. I understand your quote can’t be valid if these good times exist. But they do. Strong men do take power. Weak men do not, they watch and complain. Did you listen to this young woman. She’s quite intelligent. Why would you try and hijack her video to regurgitate this woke nonsense?
@@toddreddick4600 Not sure if you know what "woke" means lol, but it's based on ideology rather than facts... and I was only spitting a fact. Also, being knowledgeable about something doesn't necessarily equate to being "intelligent". Wisdom and knowledge are different things, although a certain amount of knowledge is required for one to be wise. These "good times" are good for who exactly? To me it seems that it's good for the greedy/ignorant "strong men" who seem not to be concerned with how the system that they've designed to be "pleasurable" is slowly destroying society and will soon destroy them. Weak men actually play along in the pig pen and don't complain or question it... but the brave men call out the strong men and expose them for their self centered and toxic deeds.

This actually correlates with astrology. Uranus takes about 84 Earth years to orbit the sun. On April 26, 2026 Uranus will settle into Gemini. The two most recent transits of Uranus in Gemini include the US involvement in World War 2 (1941 - 1945) and the US Civil War (1861 - 1865). The transit of Uranus through Gemini from 1774 - 1782, includes the American Revolutionary War...
I was watching this and thinking about plutos roughly 20 year cycles (from one zodiac sign to the next) as well, pluto being the planet that rules the cycle of death and rebirth. We are leaving capricorn and going into aquarius which I believe is tied to turning away from major institutions and relying more on a grass roots network.
@rasrawjourney pluto just moved from Capricorn into Aquarius. Pluto stays in each sign around 20 years and will transit through pisces, aries, and taurus before getting to gemini, so ... that's a pretty solid 80 years. I'm 100% certain that I will be dead by that point.
Great job... I do think that history repeats itself. We (generations) are driven by the same (generational) teachings; one generation is driven by anger and war; the next by peace and unity; the next by passiveness and entitlement then self-absorbance and greed and then back to anger and war... I wish this could have sounded more erudite. Thank you for your content, I always learn from it.
You should study vedic astrology (not Western) . We have Pluto return (approximately 250 years) in the second house (Capricorn) of the USA. Look at the orbit of Uranus, Neptune as well......we just had a full moon in Capricorn and Mars Uranus Jupiter conjunction in Taurus.....
I found The Fourth Turning to be an interesting book for those who haven't thought about life cycles that in depth. When I learned about the book some years ago I thought it was just common sense. A good spring brings more fruit in the summer which means populations thrive, when populations thrive there is more competition and chaos because winter is indeed coming and the level of death you see is staggering. It's no different for humans than it is for any other animal or nature itself, the timings just change a little. You can see the same thing on a small scale in terrariums over time. I think the biggest misconception I see is people thinking we can somehow avoid the cycle and just stay in a perpetual summer of plenty. There is this phenomenon where a state of being in which things aren't good but are "good enough" is far worse than things being so unpleasant that it spurs you into action.
@charlesandrews2360 lol, that is a song and has nothing to do with what i am saying. Fyi, moon is currently in the first house and Venus, Uranus, Jupiter, Mercury, and Mars are in "alignment". We are either in the age of pisces going into aquarious or are already in aquarious. Nobody really knows. My reference was to the individual souls snapshot and Dharma as well as planetary transits and aspects.
Thank you for highlighting the ideas of this unique book, THE FOURTH TURNING by Howe and Strauss. I read it when it came out in 1997 and I found it to be extremely valuable in putting the events of the last 25 years in a long-term perspective that helped me not to freak out about how weird things have become in 2023 when there is so much division in our country. Howe (and Strauss, now deceased) juggle insights from 'History, Sociology, Economics, Social Philosophy and Culture' in an integrated way that expands one's thinking by leaps and bounds! I have come to recognize the generational rhythms of our society through time - in terms of regularly changing seasons from Spring to Winter - and understand how we arrived at our present 'Winter of Discontent.' Still, I'm going to do my level best to weather the social crisis we are now in the middle of - and help to launch a new trajectory of social history for the generations to come. cheers!
everything is in cycles and nothing is new--humans have been thru this many times in world history--humans have been nearly wiped out many times for various reasons in the past, will be once again...nukes
The authors jumped the gun a bit trying to predict the crisis event. It wasn't 9/11, the war on terror, or the 2008 recession. It was the legalization of same-sex marriage, which began a "cold civil war" between those who believe the US should be governed by Biblical laws and those who believe it should be a secular democracy. The legalization of same-sex marriage is when politics shifted from "conservatives and liberals are all real Americans and want the same goals, we just disagree on how to get there" to "conservatives and liberals want a completely different America and there can be no compromise or reconciliation between the two visions." That paved the way for Trump to rise to power. Trump is the crisis POTUS.
@@bchristian85don’t forget about racism. Ppl love to act like that doesn’t exist. His rise to power had more to do w/ this country’s original sin & the hate that is conditioned into some making them falsely believe they are superior bc of their skin tone. I just started this book a few weeks ago. Being a Gen X Nomad I do see parallels to the current scenarios that have evolved since the book was written.
I've seen numerous Podcasts by many different individuals on many different. Subjects. I really must say, it was very well presented, informative (I have heard this theory before)and spoken very well. When considermg you were not surrounded by sound proofing, elaborate sets, or expensive equipment, it was exceptionally well done. Thank you
I’m 21 so considered Gen Z and what I find really interesting is that statistically Gen Z is the least interested in drugs, alcohol, casual sex. Which would follow the theory in the book as well. Mental illness is also rampant but there are a LOT of “artistic” personalities in my generation. I’ve also always been called “thoughtful” or wise growing up so I’m wondering if it’s just because I grew up in chaos. To me it seems when you grow up in a chaotic world you feel a pull towards a peaceful, simple life. You feel a strong desire to leave the world as we know , because it feels so unstable and unpredictable. This is further emphasized in the popularity of minimalism, cottage-core, etc.
This makes sense, as when the hippies of the 60s became a thing it was pushing back against the 40s and 50s lifestyle of prim and proper. So they wanted to rebel. Now being the “rebel” is the normal thing and being reserved is the odd thing. We always want what we don’t have, I think. We always think the grass is greener. I also believe gen z or many of them have such a skewed view on socialization due to social media, even things like reading books seems rare since textbooks are mostly digital, people read on their phones if at all, and with the amount of news constantly being reported 24/7/365 yet we are all still falling into echo chambers bc so much stimulation makes us numb. And that refers to all of us, not just you gen zs. I know I’m personally bad about instead of reading a book, I’ll go to UA-cam and watch several analyses of it. Bc I just can’t seem to sit down long enough and pay attention to words on a page, more than a few pages, at least.
Thats just because Gen Z is mostly sterile and defective, embracing non binary and what not after being poisoned by the environment. Very artistic though, oops, I meant autistic. 😂
I’ve read this book twice. Very good. Very relevant. It’s good to have an idea of where we’re going. Their analysis of the generational archetypes are pretty accurate.
Some historians attribute these natural cycles as having to do with the natural span of an empire. I think the most prominent driving factor of these cycles is "living memory." As wise as we like to fancy ourselves and studious of history. Living memory seems like a very powerful force driving history no matter how hard we try to learn from the past we can't escape living memory.
Indeed. I put these cycles simply down to the human life span. The people born during or just after WW2 arrived into a time of rebirth, hope and optimism. They engendered that into their kids (Gen X and Millenials) and tried to instill values about, let's say good citizenship which their own parents literally fought for. By the time GenZ comes around these values and the time and place they come from seem absolutely archaic. The exponential growth of technology has only served to deepen this phenomenon. So now we face into a renewed time of chaos and danger, simply because the last time we experienced it is beyond living nmemory
Reminds of the book Pendulum by Roy Williams and Michael Drew. They also follow the 80 year cycle although they see us swinging from we to me generations. 20 years to peak me, twenty years back to balance, 20 years to we, 20 years to balance and so on. We generations value the group, doing what’s right for others, but attack outsiders. Then society swings back to a me generation valuing individuality and becoming self centered and outlandish in an attempt to be unique. It’s a pretty interesting read.
You speak so clearly with precision of language. What a gift! I appreciate this explanation, thank you kindly. Will definitely be returning to this channel to hear you speak, and will share this with others. I can see your fascination with the subject matter, and that's what interested me the most; the passion. Thank you again.
The Fourth Turning is a fine lens for analysis but you have to cherry pick what you think is important about American history at any given point in order for it to hold up. Any given decade or year can be described as having many of the characteristics of any of the turnings, and it's purely subjective which ones you want to look at. I'm not saying it's not a useful way to frame a conversation about historical patterns, but like astrology, the fact that we can extract meaning from it doesn't mean it represents something "real".
You did an excellent job summarizing this book. I remember it really resonating with me when i first read it back in the early 2000s. While it's no prophesy, it can certainly provide some useful guidelines to help navigate through uneasy times. The book that came before it, Generations is also worth reading with a lot more historical analysis.
How personally rewarding it is for me to see a well spoken, intelligent, confident young person today sharing an awareness that others might see as she does. Almost had to rub my eyes. and scratch my head.
I'm 68 and 40 years after earning a B.A. in American Studies I have never lost sight of William McLoughlin's "Revivals, Awakenings, and Reform." His book posits that American religious revivals (every 40 to 60 years) were more than just spiritual movements - they represented broader cultural transformations during battles between New Lights and Old Lights that helped Americans adapt to major social, economic, and political changes. He suggests that these awakening periods typically occurred during times of cultural stress and contributed to significant social reforms. With fascists taking control of our nation's government, we'll see if the New Lights (progressives) prevail. As a loyal American, I hope they do.
Wonderful explanation! I've been following Howe's interviews and explanations on UA-cam for two decades, and you just gave the best overview I know of. Thank you so much! Damn. What do we need to do to get you to 1M subs? Your content is great. I've never heard of this book, but I'm gonna go find it now to read. Thank you for the introduction. We are in a time of crisis. It's a crisis of not listening to one another any more. Which is paradoxically kind of a truism: obviously in an age of super-communication, our instincts will veer us towards communicating only those with whom we agree. But contrary information is always the most useful in forming opinions. My vote is to continue this theme. Your reaction vids are great, but you clearly have a lot more going on upstairs than just reactions. Society needs your balanced, respectful and insightful commentary. Bring it on.

I always had those thoughts about society in general before I knew there was a book to reference my thoughts by. I think its societal on the global scale not just U.S. underscoring that when we are vulnerable to repeating history when we fail to learn from it. Thanks for the intellectual discussion.
I think there is a stark difference within the "turning" we are experiencing versus the ones that have occurred and been studied in the past: internet (changes how we think), social media (changes how we communicate), and the real kicker - AI (changes everything). AI is quite literally a foreign alien that we have introduced into our civilization without understanding its true nature. There are a lot of theories as far as cycles and periods of evolution that we are entering as a culture, but AI will have the deepest and most lasting impact. It will literally change everything.
"The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after." First time commenting on your channel, though far from the first time watching. That was fascinating - thank you. I've been very mindful of history repeating recently, but I'd never considered it from the perspective of a 4 generation cycle, or the different life experiences that come from whichever stage you happen to be born during that process. Got me thinking... which I like!
I think fourth turnings are like the fires that spread through forests, clearing out the underbrush. They are painful but needed to allow the forest to rejuvenate and grow stronger. That’s why I study things like this. It’s easier to survive the fire if one knows the most likely path it will take.

The fourth turnings are myths. We are pattern recognition machines trying to make order out of a chaotic world. There might be mild generational tendencies but past that it is a lottery.
I highly reccomend this book too, It delves deeper into the theory, and how generational thinking came to pass, going as far back as ancient Greece and ancient Rome. It is an eye opening, prophetic read that left me with a little hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
This time frame (22 years) also coincides with sun cycles. If you trace conflicts and major unrest back in time, there is a close correlation with spikes in solar activities. I haven't read this book, but I'm wondering if the authors were aware or spoke of this correlation in their writings? 🤔 Great share! ✌️✨
Solar cycles and planetary influences would be expected to contribute to the activity of the highly sensitive apparatus present on and about Earth's surface -- terrestrial life. But the astrological flavors referenced in this reading seem to regard whole periods as somehow coherent in this or that aspect -- and that would seem to imply a much lower frequencied sort of influence, possibly from a galactic source?
@@LucasFernandez-fk8se Hahahah, it actually has to do with major EMP and radiation bursts emitted from coronal mass ejections when Sun activity is at its height. ✌️✨
That's interesting and adds up with regard to international "80 year" cycles. However, all the in-between here are posited with cherry picking and many major events have no historical mirroring...... That would not support a simple human cycle.
So thankful to have come across your channel. Your articulation is refreshing and welcomed. Looking forward to exploring more of your content. Curious to know if you’d be open to exploring the correlation between these generational storylines, and astrology. Discovered this while researching trends in the stock market, and noticing patterns with planetary aspects. Still a novice, but there is a pattern with water sign energy/flow and the flow of money, or currency (currents). Feb and March of 2023 have significant planetary action. There are more dates to note, but March 23, 2023, when Pluto enters Pisces, was the latest aspect to capture my attention.
Love the book, read it twice. It’s a more granular look at a similar perspective laid out by Oswald Spengler in Decline of the West. That’ a tough one to get through but similar in its view of the human experience as cyclic. Inception, Discovery, Enlightenment, Collapse.

Sounds like an interesting book and paradigm. One small critique might be that it's probably pretty easy to find these patterns in a relatively short period of time, i.e., Revolutionary War to current. My guess is that it's more difficult to ascertain these Turnings in other places with far longer timelines.
I remember buying this book in the late 90s and becoming completely enamored with the message and patterns. I’ve continued to consider all of the contemporary news and events in the years since in light of the pattern. I sometimes wonder if we are about to emerge into the next 1st turning very soon.
When we can solve the culture war, we'll go into the first turning. I'm hoping we can do it without civil war in the USA. These are incredibly dangerous times. If the US is going to have a second civil war, it will start within the next three years. I'm an extreme pessimist about the present reality, but I'm optimistic about the 2030s because I believe if we can get through the next few years without the cold civil war going hot, we'll move into a new first turning in the 2030s.

As a first-timer on your page, great review! I think it's fair to say that history rhymes in its cycles because of unresolved problems. Without those kinds of resolutions, our cycles will continue to reset. I'm just thinking out loud.
It has been clear to me that everything seems to operate in cycles, from the cosmic to the subatomic, which includes all of our macro human reference frames. I'd call them "spirals," because although they resemble each other they have nuanced differences each time around, and seem to have an obvious temporal element. It's interesting to see that some authors have quantified one of these many cycles and written about it, and I'll be curious to read what they have to say. I ordered the book immediately.
That's the second time I've seen somebody refer to life as a spiral. Different context though; they said "even if you're back to the point you started, you'll be more knowledgable, more experienced, arrived one level deeper. Life is not a circle, it's a spiral." As for history; one that I like is "History doesn't repeat itself. It rhymes.". (edit: lol, I should've finished the video) I don't know if I agree with the sentiment though. We are meaning-making machines. We survived on pattern recognition, and we're kind of stuck in this mode. This doesn't mean there's an actual pattern to be observed. Using history as a map for the future feel a bit like reading tea leaves.
@@RickMeijer I know what you mean. Let's promise to return to this topic by the end of the decade, if possible, and see how how our hypotheses are faring.
The book was super accurate on the timing. 2008, the start, was when the Great Banking Crash happened. 2028 is about equal to how long the last Depression in the 1930s ( A minor Financial Even compared to to this 230 year Super Cycle Depression event now ) lasted to hit bottom. AMAZING!
Reading this some time back I found it fascinating that they had not only identified financial patterns but also 80 year _major_ martial conflicts that align. Nevertheless, I believe they got carried away with analysis in between. There are just too many natural anomalies and social whims to extrapolate as neatly as they have. The book does an awful lot of "cherry picking" and stereo typing to support the theory. For instance, no international conflict or pandemic in 90s. Early 2000s were far from "roaring" (that actually occurred in 90s) Early 80s recession was more widespread and higher unemployment than 2008 yet no historical mirroring. These are significant culturally affective events. Lastly, the so called _Lost Generation_ were the largest contributors to the advent of most the basic modern inventions, literature and musical influence we now enjoy. Yet in at least 2 of his books he seems to dismiss them as zombies and goons......
One correction, in the book it never pinpoints the date to 2008, the author never claim to be Nostradamus. It just says there will be an event which begins the crisis in the mid 2000s. It was identified as the GFC afterwards.
@@maxi-me thank you glad I’m not the only one who is sensing the political spin in it, it seems to want to demonize and prop up certain generations of people. I’m a millennial and while I agree our generation is dealing with alot of struggles not of our making, there are a lot of people my age refusing to get a job or living off disability, those who do work, many have useless degrees and can’t even change a flat tire if required, that’s not a recipe for a generation here to save /remake the world from those “zombies & goons”.
Strauss and Howe really made some great points in the original book, but they got a bit carried away in the the 2000s predicting the crisis. It wasn't 9/11, the war on terror, or the 2008 recession. None of those changed society the way a real fourth turning does. The actual crisis is the culture war that has been brewing since the '80s. I read this book years ago on the recommendation of Glenn Beck and, not being a historian, ploughed through it over the course of a year. I feel it's one of the best and most prescient books I've ever read. The outcome of this Fourth Turning, or Crisis, remains uncertain. I agree with this young lady it does not have to end badly, and further argue it's necessary we go through this painful period to achieve rejuvenation, if possible. That being said, it's not a foregone conclusion that things will be better on the other side (imagine if we had lost WW II). It will be determined by the decisions we make going forward and the courage we can muster. This time it's an internal battle.
Even if you lose a war it's not the end, look at Germany and Japan. Sometimes when you win a war you still lose. Look at russia. They were allies with us in WWII and just 45 years later they collapsed and haven't recovered from that yet 34 years later.
And as a gen Xer you're predisposed to a general distrust in society due to the boomers ruining what their parents set up for them by taking advantage of and bullying your generation. When the gen Xers attempted the same with the elder millennials they got met with violence and sent into an alcoholic infused hideout. Now gen Z are breaking their dainty frail wrists with full auto drum pistols HIDING FROM THEIR OPS too
Just thank you. The world takes such fascinating and seemingly dangerous turns. Finding someone so bright and articulate like yourself brightens my day. B. Alexander
I read this book in 2000-2001, and holy cow has it held up. The days feel really dark at the moment, but I have hope that the US will weather the storm.
Love it, thank you. Patterns form the web of life, critical to framing paths to growth (personally, collectively, spiritually). Becoming aware of patterns opens the door to understanding & healing, within and without.
What s great synopsis of a lot of data. I love the theory as well, and at age 72, I have lived it and watched this story unfold. This Fourth Turn scares this guy as I fear geo-political forces will dynamically change the way if life in America as we have known it. I look forward to seeing more of your posts 👍🏻
Love this. It's true. There are a lot of philosophers who describe seasons like this... as well as motivational speakers and other influential leaders. It's really cool how you and the the writers describe what happens in each generation though...the psychology of how each season affects a group of people. The book sounds like a great read - I bought it through your affiliate link! Thanks for sharing your insights with us! ❤️💓💕
Thank you for sharing. Definitely thought provoking and as a millennial, you’re right, I’m optimistic 😊 As I’m getting wiser I’ve noticed a cycle as well as a pattern of allowing ego and emotions to keep us in the cycle. But I guess that’s life and human nature.
I would be interested to know if the book or the author ever addresses the idea that people tend to find patterns when they look for them, even if they aren't there (apophenia.)
recognizing patterns because you are looking for them is common. but when the patterns can be measured and predicted and defined, they are more than the product of expectation.
Davidson and Rees-Moog, in “The Sovereign Individual,” basically said that a sufficient understanding of the past was a gateway to being able to correctly predict the future with a surprising degree of accuracy…only they were likely far more interested in investing than LaVey was. Wisdom, applied differently?
The problem is that past cycles didnt have the Internet, AI, smartphones, surveillance, digitization, drones, nuclear weapons. Im just saying, its a lot easier to track and control humanity now. We dont even own currency. Our cars and our bank accounts can be frozen.
Great video. In grad school my econ professor was a big proponent of cliometrics or the study of political cycles and he recommended this book. I would have to go back through it again so I could talk about it with some confidence but I love your conclusion at the end and you can't go wrong with Twain quote....ever.
This corresponds generally to generational cycles in astrology. You may want to check out the book Cosmos and Psyche, by Richard Tarnas. Also archetypal in nature. Nice summary! Thank you.
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:38 📚 The Fourth Turning is a generational theory that operates in roughly 80-year cycles called saecula, with four turnings, each lasting 20-22 years. 01:34 🌱 The four turnings are described as High, Awakening, Unraveling, and Crisis, akin to seasons, and they repeat throughout history. 02:14 📅 The last Fourth Turning began in 1929 (Great Depression/WWII), with previous ones linked to the Civil War and Revolutionary War. 03:11 🌻 The First Turning (High) is characterized by strong institutions and collectivism, e.g., post-WWII prosperity. 03:39 🌟 The Second Turning (Awakening) sees institutions attacked and a shift to personal and spiritual autonomy, e.g., the 1960s counterculture. 04:06 🌊 The Third Turning (Unraveling) features weak institutions, loss of trust, and growing individualism, e.g., the late 20th century. 04:44 ❄️ The Fourth Turning (Crisis) involves times of crisis, e.g., the financial crisis of 2008, social unrest, and geopolitical tensions. 05:25 🧓 Each generation has an archetype, such as Boomers (Prophet), Generation X (Nomad), Millennials (Hero), and Gen Z (Artist). 06:59 🔄 While a Fourth Turning may seem tumultuous, history suggests it will lead to a stabilizing period, and this cycle has repeated to varying degrees in history. ah... it's that theory about generations and cycles. it's quiet of true, even wikipedia lists "ages" every 80 years roughly, are we still in information age or we are now in nano age?

What sign is Pluto in now and what do you feel like Pluto in Gemini will mean for us?
@rasrawjourney pluto just moved from Capricorn into Aquarius. Pluto stays in each sign around 20 years and will transit through pisces, aries, and taurus before getting to gemini, so ... that's a pretty solid 80 years. I'm 100% certain that I will be dead by that point.

We've been living in the good enough since 1993
It's called Malthusian Economics based on a book written in 1798.

Subjects.
I feel the same way!
Sounds logical to me
Absolutely right.
Or rather: Most people are too ignorant and too dumb to learn from history and not make the same mistakes others made before.
@donaldduck830 a good quote" one thing we learn from history is that we never learn from history"
Agree. Elders w knowledge of good times pass away and nobody remembers how good times were achieved

I love knowing that people think this way, and others will take their time to explain it to me ! Thank you so much ! 😊

We are in a time of crisis. It's a crisis of not listening to one another any more.
Hey John! Glad you took something from the video, that’s awesome. Thanks for taking the time to write (:
I think fourth turnings are like the fires that spread through forests, clearing out the underbrush. They are painful but needed to allow the forest to rejuvenate and grow stronger.
That’s why I study things like this. It’s easier to survive the fire if one knows the most likely path it will take.
WEF holding box of matches and can of gasoline😂.
Your literally describing the way monarchs and rulers have viewed the serf class for thousands of years.
You basically advocate another holocaust and cover it up in glossy analogous wordplay.
The fourth turnings are myths. We are pattern recognition machines trying to make order out of a chaotic world. There might be mild generational tendencies but past that it is a lottery.
@@Lion-rf8xi well then how else can I get a burger and fries for under ten bucks?
I highly reccomend this book too, It delves deeper into the theory, and how generational thinking came to pass, going as far back as ancient Greece and ancient Rome. It is an eye opening, prophetic read that left me with a little hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Why are you hanging around inside a tunnel then? Get out.
So happy you popped up on my feed today! I subscribed after listening for just a few minutes. Looking forward to seeing your backlog of videos.
Okay no need to bring astrology into it. No “The civil war happened because Venus was in retrograde” kind of conversations please
Coincides with Uranus cycles around the sun more specifically- i.e., astrological cycles.
It’s so cool to see you reading this. I think it is important for all generations to bridge the generation gap. Keep up the good work!
Dear Mis Protocol, I saved this video to my 'watch later' because I found the title fascinating. And the way you explained it all was accessible and well nuanced.
I've NEVER heard of that but boy it's intriguing.
You've got a new subscriber. Have a great day/week.

Excellent lecture, thank you. You are a great communicator
I vaguely recall the book America, Born And Reborn (c1980) examined this concept, also.
Reading this after the election. If there's any truth to this theory, hopefully the 4th turning ends soon and we have something to look forward to.
I have a bone to pick with you @no protocol. You keep making good content with amazing reading suggestions and it is severely cutting into my video game time.
In all seriousness, I just got done with Magicians of the Gods, then i read Frisco Pigeon Mambo (nice change of pace) and now I am reading The Myth Of Normal. When I'm done with that book I will be reading this one next. Please keep up the good content, I am sharing your channel with everyone I know because you have quickly risen to the top of the ranks of my favorite content creators.
I haven’t read any of the books that you’ve mentioned, I’ll look into each of them. Also, thank you Allen (:
@@NoProtocol if your looking for a fun light read, Frisco Pigeon Mambo is good for that. It's written by CD Payne who wrote Youth and Revolt and I fell in love with those books in my late teens early twenties.
Magicians of the Gods and The Myth of Normal are both more thought provoking books that will keep your brain busy. If you do read them I hope you enjoy them, I sure did/am.
Well done. I first heard of the book Generations from a friend when it was first out. It was an interesting conversation but I didn't read it until I started noticing some of the things that we discussed actually happening around 2002. Stil then I have kept reading on the subject. I read The Fourth Turning back in the 90's and this was a good glimpse into it.
I've read it twice, literally. Excellent book written in 1997, was blown away by the prediction of an insurrection around or before 2025 & so much more info that connect the dots to how each generational Turning arrives. Yes we are in the 4th Turning.
We are in the End Times. Specifically the beginning of sorrows phase just before the Great Tribulation.
If you mean the hidden insurrection in November 2020, i would agree.
You mean that day when angry mobs set fires and tried to storm the White House gates and CNN laughed about Trump hiding in the basement? That attempted insurrection?
@@lseger62for real! It’s bonkers millions avoid this 2020 election conversation and refuse to see what happened other than what Blackrock mainstream media stations tell them. Michigan state police just released information about a huge election fraud operation. *crickets*

As a first-timer on your page, great review! I think it's fair to say that history rhymes in its cycles because of unresolved problems. Without those kinds of resolutions, our cycles will continue to reset. I'm just thinking out loud.
Oh…Wow, I didn’t know this was real. I heard the fourth turning referenced in episode 3 of “The Watcher.” Thank you for this!
Life is not a circle, it's a spiral."
As for history; one that I like is "History doesn't repeat itself. It rhymes.". (edit: lol, I should've finished the video)
I don't know if I agree with the sentiment though. We are meaning-making machines. We survived on pattern recognition, and we're kind of stuck in this mode. This doesn't mean there's an actual pattern to be observed. Using history as a map for the future feel a bit like reading tea leaves.
All I know is I’m about to get hit with a ton of conspiracies theories now that I’ve watched this 😒 thanks UA-cam algorithm
And you are completely wrong .
@@michaelking9818 About what?
It kicked into full gear in June 2015 when same-sex marriage was legalized, Caitlyn Jenner was on the front cover of Vanity Fair Magazine, and Donald Trump rode down the golden escalator as the "messiah" for those who want a more traditional, hierarchal society.@@maxi-me
The climax of the crisis began in 2020 with the pandemic, and then in 2021 with the attempted insurrection.

How did a nut case like Beck find this book???
Glenn Beck, the fraud!
Gen X here: not a coincidence, a manufactured apophenia designed to get people to swallow the next spoon-fed narrative without questioning.
💯
Spot on and we’re not falling for it this time
And as a gen Xer you're predisposed to a general distrust in society due to the boomers ruining what their parents set up for them by taking advantage of and bullying your generation.

I read this book in 2000-2001, and holy cow has it held up. The days feel really dark at the moment, but I have hope that the US will weather the storm.
Would love to read this book. NP - you have done a tremendous job with what you bring to the table for everyone here.
Was wondering why I got recommend this. I now understand
Fascinating concept! I first learned about it maybe 10 years ago. You did a great job explaining it.
Love it, thank you.
Patterns form the web of life, critical to framing paths to growth (personally, collectively, spiritually).
Becoming aware of patterns opens the door to understanding & healing, within and without.
If you haven't already, I highly recommend Neil Howe 's The Fourth Turning is Here, published in 2023.
Reminds me of Jung's collective unconscious writings. Now I want to brush up on things.
Nice video , well spoken, no wasted chatter very informative ,condensed , perfect flow
This has brought me hope , thank you ❤
I would be interested to know if the book or the author ever addresses the idea that people tend to find patterns when they look for them, even if they aren't there (apophenia.)
recognizing patterns because you are looking for them is common. but when the patterns can be measured and predicted and defined, they are more than the product of expectation.
"want to learn about the future, study the past" - Anton Szandor LaVey

Thank you.
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:38 📚 The Fourth Turning is a generational theory that operates in roughly 80-year cycles called saecula, with four turnings, each lasting 20-22 years.

Wow, very useful. Thank you for posting it and thank you AI.
This book cherry picks points in history to support its premise. The concept of turnings is made up; doesn’t actually stand up to scrutiny.
Or, perhaps, what you call "history" is also just cherry picked information that doesn't stand up to the same scrutiny.
I really enjoyed listening to your summary about this particular subject which I find informative and fascinating. Keep up the good work!
