How are you liking the DR now that's it's been a while? I just picked up a similar condition '97 w/4k on it.. the oe chain i'm thinking is junk as it seemed pretty stretched at only 4k miles.. I'm diggin it, it will replace my XR650L which these days is just too much work to ride..have a Vstrom for bigger rides..

After you bought the bike. What did you do? Change oil, brake fluid. fork oil necessary? What else?
Is it true that the 98 ans 99 dr350s have fully adjustable suspension?

Which rack did u get? Looks like the ukrainians are making some good racks for the d250 and dr350 for less than $200. Saw them on a few sites.
