When sowing seed, back in the day here in England, the saying was 'One for the mouse, one for the crow, one to rot and one to grow' Really like these old style videos. 👍
I love that contraption of a tiller, priceless! You have such a wonderful, kind and clean sense of humor, it is very much appreciated! Thank you and God bless you and yours.
I always laugh a lot watching your videos but it's not just fun, there's so much precious info with it. I didn't expect it would be the scarecrow that set off the alarm. Now we're in fantasyland and it was a poetic, surreal and unexpected "dénouement".
This video is Encouraging, Enlightening, Funny, Peaceful, Engaging, and Educational. Your video touched our soul. My wife and grandkids are inspired by it. Many thanks .
When I was apprenticed at a nursery , the first job was hoeing and , strangely enough , the advice was the same , you're out here all summer , use all of the handle . As it turned out , it was a great way of learning about the different plants . Great video 👍🇬🇧
I absolutely enjoy watching your videos. Not only are they reminders of the old ways that I grew up knowing and gotten so many ideas that I have been able to incorporate into my current sustainable practices, they remind me of the old Charlie Chapman movies I grew up watching. Absolutely hilarious and definitely a choking hazard if I happen to be watching while eating. 😂😂😂😂
The only complaint I have is that there are not more of your videos. The educational and motivational aspect aside they are wholesome, well crafted entertainment. Thank you for all the hard work, that went into this brilliant series. It is a true gem on youtube.
I’ve planted quite a few fruit trees. Many of them never bore fruit. I did however plant some muscadines. They exploded out of the ground and gave me far more fruit than I ever expected. That was in Southeast Alabama.
Land is a real form of generational wealth. It provides your descendants with the capacity to carve out an existence and an income for themselves. Combined with time, effort and knowledge, a family can go far. It was a real treat to see your family pitching in at the beginning. There's mroe to learn form this video than just gardening. Thanks for your efforts, I'd love to see your channel grow more in the coming years.
Each time you post a video, share a tale, enlighten us all, the world is a brighter, better place. Such a joy to watch these snippets of folk treasure.
I am so pleased to see you post again I have been waiting (somewhat impatiently I admit) for a new one. I understand why it takes you a while to put them out with all of the work you put into each one, I can't imagine how may days it takes you to make a video. Thank you for sharing I enjoyed it tremendously and it brought a smile to my face after a very long work day. It makes me want to get into my garden again, but of course I have to wait till winter is passed. I will probably watch this one again in January as a gentle reminder that winter will pass at some time.
What a pleasant late night surprise to see a FHC notification! As always, an informative teaching video done in a very entertaining way. Quite a gift you have sir! Thanks for the awesome video. Already looking forward to the next one.
I have so thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos. Some, ok - most of them I've watched several times. You are right when you said much knowledge was passed down word of mouth to the next generation. Problem is my parents didn't want to farm and thought livin' in the city was success. So, I grew up eating tv dinners, Betty Crocker cakes and food out of tin cans. Today there is a growing trend of people wanting to grow their own food but those who could teach them are gone or up in years. I thank the good Lord for people like you who want to pass on knowledge. I know I'm missing a lot with videos, magazines and books instead of hands on instruction but I'm trying hard to learn through trial and error. I'm no spring chicken but if my grands have a prayer of learning I've got to learn and hope they keep on going after me. With that said I took a huge leap of faith and moved from 20 years of backyard tiny gardening to 30 acres of brush, briers and trees. Not sure if that was a smart move considering I'm 62 years old but it was a smart move for my grands. I might die just trying to get the land ready but the grands and my sons can take it over and make it a small farm, if they chose. Thank you so much for all you do to teach others. You are a blessing and I appreciate you. ~Sherrie in South Carolina
Rewatching this video and I noticed one of the old pictures at the beginning comes from a cotton farm in Mississippi County Arkansas near Blytheville my home town. That is a well circulated picture of a land owner weighing cotton sacks back when cotton was still picked by hand. The land owner’s family name is Nelson and this picture was taken in the early 1900s near Half Moon, AR! Glad you included it in your video!
another great video...again lol. always waiting to see you put out another gem. love the the scareclone and I just can't get over your tiller. it's just great. keep em coming. it's also great that the family gets out and learns too. can't have too much knowledge about simply living. thx for the video
Man I have to stop holding my breath waiting for each video but they are honestly that good!! Another memorable video watched by my wife and I . Great great stuff 😁
Hey Joel, Thanks for the kind compliment which I surely appreciate. I'll get all the shows out eventually...so just keep breathin' nice and normal. (Maybe if I held MY breath I'd get some of 'em produced quicker.)
farmhandscompanion haha, the wait is no problem at all, we take notes from a lot of your videos for our own property. Great stuff, well worth the wait 😁👍
I am still building my garden and these videos you make gives me such great ideas. And entertaining they are. I just want to hug your scarecrow! Made me chuckle a couple times. When I was just a little bitty kid I learned from my grandparents. Now I watch videos and learn. Thank you for a very informative, entertaining show!
fantastic content. Wasn't sure i'd like these videos at first without the speech, but it turns out I've grown to love them more than the ones that do! I didn't know about the wind and cloud cover for frost. great tips. From sharpening and using a hoe, to tips and advice, don't leave anything out you think might help us! thanks for your work and content FHC
I love your video just wish you made more of them. I like the the last part where you work with god hand and hand in the garden. that a big AMEN Brotha
Oh how I remember helping my Aunt on Grandma's farm in the kitchen garden, she could lift a tomato worm with the hoe, drop it in the walk path and chop that thing in two before you could blink lol. She taught me how to use the push plow, check for corn smut and what to do about it, make kitchen scrap compost, so thankful for those days, and not just the work but the peace and quiet on those summer days, except of course if the Cicadas were 'singing' then that's all you could hear lol.
So excited when saw this posted...have been waiting....and waiting....and waiting....and waiting...almost like watching my seeds germinate and start growing. It was worth the wait!!
I have a memory to share! I would watch my grandfather sow seeds by hand in his garden . He never bent down, that I can remember. He held the seeds near his waist in front of him real steady, and walked right above the prepared row, which was a shallow trench with some soil mounded up on both sides. Dropping the seeds one by one or several at a time, they fell right in front of his feet into the trench. He then kicked dirt over the seeds with one foot , then the next seeds with the other foot, alternating as he walked. He barely made any extra movements with his feet, just the little kick and then stepped on the covered seeds and kept going. He seemed to have a knack for minimizing the time and physical labor, because he had a lot to do.
These are awesome. Such a good spirited attitude, and lots of fun, and lots of know-how shared in an affable fun way. I love when I pop on youtube and there's finally a new Farm Hands Companion video!
I'm surprised I didn't see your sprinkler trick mentioned in the frost chapter. Glad to see you back again. Thanks for another informative and entertaining look at how you done things.
Wow! So much great information in this one! I'm a new homesteader and I know almost nothing about it. The gardening part is something I obviously need to learn but it just seems so hard to me. I do much better with the chickens and ducks. lol Your dousing tool really worked as you found plenty of water!
Vie de village, style campagnard, une telle vidéo est très intéressante! J'aime vraiment, je pense que nous aimons tous, s'il vous plaît ne vous arrêtez pas, louange pour vous!👋👋👏👏👏👍
Thank ya pa for all the work you put in your videos. I got me some ideas for next growing season. I know I'm gonna grow me a truck patch of pumpkins for the youngins. God bless.
This was delightful! It reminds me of how we gardened on the farm where I grew up. Partly the old-fashioned tried and true way of push plows and mules and partly the new fangled way of tractors 😄I'm a new subscriber.
119 likes and 720 views? How could anyone watch these FHC videos without liking them? Oh well, I guess it takes all types of folks to make up an audience LOL. Great video. PLEASE keep them coming. I love the wisdom, humor and knowledge you share with us. Thank you neighbor.
Somehow my subscription was turned off - I haven't seen a video since 2014! So glad to see this channel didn't go anywhere. Your content and editing is among the best in the business.
