Granted, live festival mixes can be hellish (let alone with this lineup) but this one never really hits its stride throughout. It's potentially the best proshot 90s Bungle footage but the missing/poorly leveled instruments make certain portions sound naked out of context (the Travolta verses, yikes). The monitor mix might have been better since the band seems to be into it. I would kill to get my hands on the stems and redo this and I'm not even a professional mixer.

After over 20 years of listening to Mr Bungle (and other bands Mike Patton has recorded and performed with for the public), I have come to realise that you have to be weird/strange/eclectic, on some level to be able to appreciate, like/love and even understand the themes and lyrics of this band. For me, Mr Bungle with the way they change genres of music and tempo or mood, are the sort of act that happen once in a century. I never get tired of hearing any music they have made !
I've heard about this band forever, because I like Faith No More, but never checked them out until now. Chino from Deftones talked about them a few times, and I should have known then to check them out, because Chino has pretty good taste in music, and makes dope music. I like all Chinos stuff, so I started it with other bands like System of a Down. I finally checked out their side projects/Solo stuff, and it's cool too. The point is I'm gonna start checking out stuff from bands other stuff.

A funny anecdote about the last song: "Goodbye sober day" is a Finnish "drinking man´s proverb". Patton had been touring with FNM ( I think it was the last tour with Martin), and had befriended with a journalist in Finland, and spent a day with him... apparently drinking. And this Finnish guy, who´s name escapes me, had used that proverb. It had amused Patton a lot - and the next publication of Mr.Bungle featured a songtitle that originates to that one tourdate in Finland:)
+nimim. Marko Mikkilä It's the same with Caralho Voador (from King for a Day...Fool for a Lifetime). FNM toured with Sepultura and Patton learned some portuguese slang words. Caralho Voador means Flying Dick in Portuguese.
Google a band called "Cardiacs". Little known english "pronk" (punk/prog, although tim smith the singer hated the term) from the early 80s till recently. Like Zappa in a three way bar room brawl with the sex pistols and devo. You'll see a big influence on Bungle (and Paton loved Cardiacs)
A Perfect mixture of insanity and genius that could never be matched. Every measure a challenge and revelation of true skill. Every performance exposing just how lazy entertainment has become in comparison to the marathon of genre, musicianship, technique and skill that is Mr Bungle. Anyone who has been fortunate to witness this display of maniacal brilliance has won the jackpot of bragging rights. Mr Bungle is a category all its own and it is every bit worthy of praise. Salute to Mr Bungle.

Saw them in Cologne around that time. While waiting for the start we became bored and counted all the different instruments on stage, it were about 50. They used every one of them. Very impressing.
19:20 This whole breakdown and the part following it put me in mind of Incubus - the way they sounded during the era this gig was performed. Strangely, they were really trying to capture the sound of when this track was actually recorded.
I place Mike Patton in the same musical genius bin as Brian Wilson and Jazz Coleman of Killing Joke . Patton's work is like an angry and unstable "Smile." These signatures and orchestration are insane! What fantastic musicians! How the hell do you rehearse for a live show like this??
Why do people always single Mike Patton out? Trey and Trevor are also the other geniuses of Mr Bungle, and Mr Bungle have heavy influence and association with John Zorn (both the band Naked City and Zorn's other genre hopping stuff in the 80s). A high percentage of what these guys do both in Bungle and outside of Bungle can be traced back to specific pieces and albums by Zorn.
@@Hastenforthedawmbecause Mike Patton has the most skill/talent out of all of them...even though their definitely good and help with the originality production but Patton is really incomparable to just about anyone

+nimim. Marko Mikkilä It's the same with Caralho Voador (from King for a Day...Fool for a Lifetime). FNM toured with Sepultura and Patton learned some portuguese slang words. Caralho Voador means Flying Dick in Portuguese.
"Flying Dicks" would be a great bandname:D
Jorgástico
Holy fuk that drummer..
Dude, you ain't fucking kidding...
Let's talk about ALL of them ❤
Still probably my favorite piece of UA-cam out there today. Spectacular.
Same here.
I have to say this is the most Zappaesque non-Zappa band I've ever heard!
I thought the same
Yeah it was kind of like a modern take on what the mothers did
Check out Darth Vegas too. Unrelated but a simil similarly esoteric sound.
Paul Catania my god
Bungle is unique
you can't compare them with zappa
Bungle for people is even weird today
zappa not...
Mike Patton is the fuckin man.
True Words! You nailed it 100%. 🙌
Patton > Kiedis
Me > you
not in a million years
sorry, I haven`t seen the >
I mean Patton CAN`T BE COMPARED
(who`s kiedis?) lol
Shit > kiedis
entendi nada
Mike giggling at 20:10 is probably my favourite part at this. Proper tried to straight face it. Bless x
I do not know why he is wearing a dress and I can't really understand the other things going on here but I love it.
Wolfgang Amadeus definitely
Cause his ass is on fire 🔥🔥
Bungle is as Bungle does. Don't have to understand them to love em.
🤘🏽🤘🏽
Ingrid Normann same here. Who’s the girl in your profile picture?
It was the will of God.
21:24 Mike singing Lauryn Hill 'Doo Wop (That Thing)' :-)
00:25 What the World Needs Now, 03:32 None of them knew they were robots, 09:35 The Air-Conditioned Nightmare, 13:55 Travolta, 21:55 My Ass is On Fire, 26:28 Pink Cigarrette, 30:55 Ars Moriendi, 35:26 Goodbye Sober Day.
sorry if someone posted this before.
Bon the Fisherman isnt carry stress in the jaw on here
Literally no one has, thx
@@adamrose6969 literally
Nobody does this kind of music...embryonic, hibrid, fenomenous....awesome!!!!!! Mike Patton is from outer space...
Check out Secret Chiefs 3. Trey Spruance is who you find when you go on a desert search for techno Allah.
Saw them in Cologne around that time. While waiting for the start we became bored and counted all the different instruments on stage, it were about 50. They used every one of them. Very impressing.
What I love about mike as a musician is his creative musical weirdness.
19:20 This whole breakdown and the part following it put me in mind of Incubus - the way they sounded during the era this gig was performed. Strangely, they were really trying to capture the sound of when this track was actually recorded.
To be able to perform this music live so accurately compared to the recordings seems unpossible and unsane to me.
Mike Patton is legit a God of Music and you can't change my mind, so don't even try.
what the world needs now is love, sweet love...only mr bungle could start a show like that...I miss them...
I miss Tim
These guys are incredible. I don't know how they memorize some of these songs.
In fact, I listen a lot of Brian Wilson's influence in some Mr. Bungle tunes
@@carpetgymolylifting we all love Mike but that's just ignorant
@@carpetgymolylifting I would argue that they’re all equally talented as musicians
i have been watching this for 5 hours straight
,
I love how they had the huge stage, but still set up tightly together.
Es increíble la cantidad de veces que escuché este recital entero desde que lo descubrí este año 😔🙏🏻 es simplemente arte
Putting the red hot chili peppers to shame
No contest Hahahah
Mike to Anthony, "My 'joke' band is better than your real band."
They are two waaay different bands to compare
Sophia Moreno .....do me a favour .... Check the early years Mr bungle songs like Mr nice guy . Check style - dance moves and let me know after .
Fuck the Chilli Peppers!! They sound like cavemen compared to Mr Bungle!!
3:30 this version of Robots is amazing. all these years later. I’ve watched this video so many times
I was thinking the same, this version is incredible.
Just discovered the mr.bungle self titled album Wish I had known them earlier so I would have the chance to attend to an concert
Bungle is one of those bands you can't be indifferent to. I used to take long lonely drives at night high on various drugs, crying while listening to "California" over and over again.
cudny koncert, wracam do niego często. Mają najlepszego vokalistę na świecie i się bawią. I to jest piękne
Omfg I will just never grow tired of this band
People would say the same about Peeping Tom. Just cause Mike Patton is vocals. The band is fucking awesome. Mike is like the cherry on top of a great fucking ice cream sundae!
The voice range of Patton, damn...
