New to shooting but love it! Went out to try out other bows last week beyond what the shop I’ve been taking lessons at sells. After the lessons I’ve taken (starting in a recurve), I knew I needed to get my hands on various bows to find what worked best for me. Spent hours shooting various bows. Ended up ordering a 50# Avail. It was one of the last bows that I shot that day, but it just instantly fit. Loved shooting the vertix as well, but the Avail just felt perfect for me. Now I need to find someone to help me learn how to hunt! Anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Avail!!
Great bow! One of my daughters shoots it and it's an awesome bow. Good luck this season!
Already got my traverse in hand. Stone riser and elevated II limbs. Absolutely the sexiest bow I’ve ever seen.
I'd have to agree. I got it in all forest which looks very nice but not I kind of wish I got it in elevated 2 to match my sitka gear.
I sold my Hoyt Defiant Turbo and bought a Traverse; I absolutely love the Traverse.
I bought a vertix before Christmas. I love it.Smooth and quiet
Thanks Shannon!
Just bought the Vertix - when I shoot my left hand doesn't register the shot, very quiet. The grip is great - backwall is solid. Just really great. It was pretty much tuned when the guy finished putting the furniture on.
That was a very thorough well-balanced review...thanks! I currently have the Triax. By far the quietest, smoothest bow I've ever owned. I just can't seem to get used to the blocky grip and the short platform. I really like the Traverse....
Oops...at 5:58 when talking about the Traverse, he mentioned 75 and 80% let-off, but that let-off option is for the Vertix; the Traverse is 75 and 85%. I sold my HTR and chose the 85% LO Traverse this year because I seem to shoot the longer ATA bows a bit better; plus it shoots almost identically to my Halon 32-7, allowing me to switch back and forth fairly comfortably.
Good catch! Congrats on the new Traverse!
Prime CT3. Great draw cycle; awesome valley and great hold; super well balanced in the hand; super accurate; free cables and string every 2 years
Wow! That’s a nice perk! Thanks for watching!
Traverse 100 percent a bow for me on 2019
Vertex for sure nice and smooth quite as well really like this bow
I’ve already got the vertix and I love it! Can’t wait to get out and get me a kill with it.
I'm heading south this weekend to see if I can shoot a turkey or hog with the Traverse! Good luck with the Vertix! Thanks for watching!
William Matthews 👍🏻👍🏻I got the vertix also and itching to use it in the next week and half when MI turkey season starts!
@@outdoorfamilytraditions9352 Good luck in the field! Be sure to post back when you get one! ;)
Very nice bow. You will love it.
I have a Mathews tactical, it may be a few years old but it shoots so smooth & super fast !!
Awesome! Do you use it primarily for hunting or target?
Hunting
Hey! I live in Texas too and I've been educating myself on this sport for 7 months and I'm making my first bow purchase in 2 weeks here in Houston. I'm between a Hyot Nitrux & Mathews Traverse
Awesome! Both are great bows. Which shop are you buying from? If you haven't already, be sure to shoot both and choose the one that feels best to you. Congrats on your upcoming purchase! Be sure to check us out over on TexasBowhunter.com!
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH I'm gonna google a few shops but there's one here in the houston area called West Houston Archery so that'll be my first stop but if they don't have what I'm looking for then I'll be searching for more shops. I'll definitely check out your site because I'm a pretty new Texan (I was born here in the 90s but family problems led to me leaving before I was even 2 and I only came back within the past year and i love it because in the UK I couldn't have a gun or hunt and in Texas I can do it all 😁). I'm just very nervous of going to a shop and troubling/ disturbing the people there with my inexperience and questions as I tend to be a very quiet and reserved person who only speaks when spoken to.
I was originally planning to buy my bow and mods online and just have the shop set it up/ tune it for me so I wouldn't disturb the people with my inexperience but everyone I've spoken to online has said I need to shoot the bows and have them measure me and ask questions but I don't feel comfortable asking them to let me shoot a bow when I've never done so in my life before. I've only shot glocks, AK's and an M4 but never a bow.
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH I'm gonna become a member on your website. There's so many cool and nice people posting on the forums and helping each other finding beaches and much more. Idk many people in texas yet besides my cousin who's letting me stay with him so I'm sure I'll be asking people where to go hunting when I'm skilled enough to go and maybe make a friend or two on the site as time goes on. Thank you! 🙏😁
Mathews Traverse, it should have been the flagship. But I’m 6’4” with a 31” draw and hunt/shoot 3D with my bow...so I may be a little biased towards a longer bow. Either way it’s an amazing shooter that I’m lusting after ever since letting the bow shop talk me into shooting it.
Both are really good shooting bows, but the Traverse is definitely the better at your draw length! What bow are you currently shooting? Will you be able to hold out on a new Traverse? LOL!
Hmmm, tough question, I still shoot a Bowtech RPM360 for 3D and Hunting. I tried out a ton of Bows this year. I really liked the Bowtech Realm SS, The Mathews Vertix and the Traverse. I think the Traverse probably would have my vote. Unfortunately non of them shoot any better than my old bow (just quieter, deader and I don't care for the front heavy draw cycle) and all are slower still. So this year my choice will be my RPM 360. They need a Traverse or Vertix with a 7" brace height and I would have been sold. Hunting in cold weather, the 6" brace heights have a tendency to grab a sleeve.. I still love my old Mathews Switchback XT. It'll forever be my back up bow.
Good thoughts! I think the 6 5/8" BH of the Traverse achieves a nice blend of speed/forgiveness. I loved my NoCam HTR, but it was a little slow with a heavier arrow setup I used for Elk. I hope to do a full review video after I get a chance to do some real world shooting with it! Thanks for the comment!
Michael Middleton TBH I would be even happier with a 7.5” brace ..
Love my Switchback.
Have the Mathews chrono and you will see there as fast as your bowtechs. The TX5 is a smoking fast bow, it is rated 345 ibo at 29' draw.
My PSE xpedite nxt, shoots fast smooth accurate
SO many good bows to choose from! The completion is great for the consumer. 👍
I have a diamond blackout ss 60# 28.5" right now, and I like it, if I could afford a new bow I'll go for the vertix since it's a bow that I can own for years and years and not have to think of buying a new one after. As for changing the setup for hunting and target 3D (if money wasn't an issue). I would have a sight that uses something like the wedge lock system that axcel has, so have 2 sets of sight, one sighted in for hunting and one sighted in for target, and a set of arrows for each.
I have shot Mathews bows for years and am admittedly a die hard fanboy. I like the company and their values a lot and have liked their bows too. However, if I’m honest, I like the bowtech realm ss the most of all bows offered this year, last year it was the realm x. The sr6 is sweet too. I haven’t owned anything but a Mathews in 7+ years, but I’m considering buying a bowtech. Just a tough pill to swallow to spend an extra $100 on a bare bow that’s not a Mathews. Still thinkin on it. Thanks for the video, God bless!
Thanks for the reply! Lots of great bows. Competition between the manufacturers is great for the consumer.
Had to go with the traverse for that 32 inch length of pull.
I’m sure that DL somewhat limits your options! Thanks for posting!
Traverse would be my choice. Im dropping down to a 60 lb draw so I dont feel the switch weight technology is not something I need.
Once I get set at the 55 - 60 lb range thats where I will be staying. I currently shoot the Halon32 and like the length of the axle to axle .
Thanks for the comment, David!
Already have a black on black vertix in hand with #70 mods Its the most shootable and forgiving bow ive ever picked up. Only thing i changed was the crappy zebra strings and i shoot GAS bowstrings
I would choose the Traverse because I like the 33' ATA and the low shock along with the smooth draw!
Good call! Those are the main reasons I chose the Traverse. What do you shoot now?
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH I shot the Halon 32 and the Halon X I love both of them but I'm always upgrading lol.
@@danielfetchak1865 what bow draws smoother to you the halon 32 or the halon x. And what bow do you like better over all between the two
Sticking with my Prime Rival.
Good choice!
Tough question. I've had one Matthews and two bow techs. I believe the big three are still Mathews, Bow Tech and Hoyt. Having said that, each year I look at bows, I can't seem to give up my 2010 Bow Tech Destroyer 340. It's fast and forgiving with a 7 inch brace height. I guess I'm going to answer a question with a question. Why have the brace heights gone down and speed not significantly changed over the last several years? Enjoyed the video, btw.
But if I were to buy a 2019 bow, because I like great bows with speed and accuracy, I think I'd go with the Hoyt RX3 with 80 lb limbs. The reviews look good to me.
I went with the Vertix with 2 of the 4 switch weight mod's.............I have the 65 lb and 75 lb. mods.......so easy to switch them out............now I can use the same bow for turkey...whitails...hogs at 65 and when I head out West for Mulies, elk or bear I swap out the 75 lb mod...........swap out my wheel on my HHG Optimizer Kingpin site and I'm golden........ so freaking quiet and lightning quick.......
bought me a prime ct5. thing is nuts. tack driver deluxe
Very nice!
Prime logic I’ve got the 18 and I wouldn’t change to a different bow prime is an awesome bow and company I love my 31 axle to axle perfect for tree stand or blind nice and compact plus I’m shooting 65lbs putting black eagle carnivores out at 306 FPS best bow money can buy
The vxr 28 or 31.5 is a real nice bow as well thinking about upgradeing to the vxr 28 better hunting wise compact
I'm curious to see the new lineup for 2021. I'd probably opt for the shorter ATA this time.
I had a chance to shoot the vxr 28 and for a short ata it’s really nice bow to shoot dead in the hand quite just a well built bow
Mathews DXT, she's been really good to me and still shoots true.
I would choose the Junxing M122 or Matthews Traverse
I'm not familiar with the Junxing. Thanks for the comment!
SR6 Bowtech
Michael Eales another good one!
yep I'm a HOYT FAN but man those SR6 BOWTECHS ARE DAM SWEET! If there was ever a bow go make me leave HOYT it would be the SR6
I THINK THEY ALL MAKE A REALLY GOOD BOW THESE DAYS
@@ChasingGiants23
NOT A HOYT!!! First and last time I ever buy a Hoyt!
Reel_life_Roland bad experience? Hate to hear that, buddy.
Great review! Very helpful
Laughing at the HOYT banner in the background
:D LOL! I considered the irony when I was filming and even considered asking Tim to remove it, but...this isn't at all a Mathews advertisement and B2B obviously sells more than one line of bow. In fact, as we alluded to in the video, Tim shoots a Hoyt (while co-workers Alyse and Kelton shoot Bear and Mathews, respectively.) As I've mentioned several times, there are a lot of great bows for 2019. This was simply a comparison of two from Mathews. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment! ;)b
Vertix. Smooth, very quiet and just outright stupid accurate and fast with the horsepower to send it heavy.
GREAT VID. HOYT RX3 _ HOYT LIFE
Thanks!
I would get the new traverse. It's dead in the hand and smooth as heck
I got a vertix however I wish I would have got a traverse I’m a 28 inch draw length and the string angle makes my peep so far up the string the speed knocks get in the way.
UK Company > " MYBOW " > have you seen how well they make their Bows ?? going down a Storm in the UK !!
Bro you didn’t show either bow very much, and I was hoping that you would shoot both of them and then give us a comparison. And I wasn’t clear on which bow you were going to buy, and why you would purchase that over the other one
Thanks for the critique. I'll work on showing more detail on future reviews.
Got the bow I want , pse carbon stealth 35
Congrats! Good luck this season!
Michael Middleton TBH good luck to you guys also.
My buddy has a Vertix with 80# wake limbs. Maxes out at 102# on the Vertix.
The Bow God 😯 that’s a lot of draw weight! What is he hunting?
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH deer lol
Mathews Triax and all the deer another four hundred yards beyond. Lol
Michael Middleton TBH deer
Nathan Mohler 😂
Love your videos. Please join Archery and Bowhunting Facebook group.
I like them both equally but I think my Halon 32 is a little smoother.
Mathews triax so quiet and smooth
East Texas Waterfowlers unquestionably. That’s the big shock when they claim to have reduced it by another 20%! 😳
Yeah I’m gonna haft to go shoot the new one I’ll probably be in shock because the triax is already so smooth
The Vertix is no more silent and vibration free.
I have the bowtech reign 7 and the realm. So it would be the realm ss.
Good choice! Thanks for the comment!
Reign 7 is a great bow. Love mine.
Im gonna guy the Traverse really soon.
Vibration?
Like an air lite 357?
1500-2000 for a bow and vibration is still a concern?
Lay brick or frame houses and the vibration won't bother you .
With the Traverse or Vertix, vibration isn't much of a concern. Obviously, I'd rather have less vibration than more. Thanks for the comment.
If they are complaining about hand shock on this bow they must wear skinny jeans
@@MrMallgood it's not about the hand shock but the overall vibration which normally equals more sound and spooked game. The dead in the hand feel is just a mice bonus.
I got the sr6 and for its speed and its balance on my hand
Hoyt helix ultra i shoot 3D archery works realy well
Very nice! Do you hunt or just shoot 3D? Do you have different bows for each?
Would be a Mathews Vertix, Greatest bows ever!
Bruce Lane Definitely a good choice, and you certainly have an argument!
No it isnt
@Boxing 101 Like I said, matter of opinion. The Triax is a great bow. 60 and 70 yards 4 inch groups. The string angle is fine for for me. All tho I'm only set at 28". The Vertix is a Halon 6 with extras. The Vertix is nice a bow, but not worth buying. When I own a Halon 6 and a Triax. The grip on the Vertix sucks. A grip shouldn't suck you in to only where it positions your hand. I'm glad you like your Vertix. Enjoy it.
The QAD rest is awesome except it squeaks! How could they put that on the market and not fix. The felt wears out very fast.
I've not really had much issue with my rest squeaking (and I've had a few different ones on different bows.) Is it a common problem or maybe just the one you have?
Mine has done the same thing in under 100 shots. It makes a noise even pulling bow back as arrow slides through the rest.
@@deancubbedge65 Is it the arrow sliding across the launcher arm or something mechanical? Would additional felt/mole skin fix the issue?
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH michael it's when sliding across the felt/rest. The felt is compressed in that area. Im curious to how much noise would be produced without the felt. I guess I need to replace it if it is making a huge difference in quietness. How long does yours last?
Dean Cubbedge I don’t use the felt on mine anymore. The squeak is annoying for sure but probably imperceptible to animals. It was more annoying for me. When I ran out of it, I just started going without. There is still a sound but it’s just the sound of the arrow sliding across the rest. It’s slight and not a big deal to me but it may be a dealbreaker for a whitetail hunter, which I am not.
I love the Z7 platform (heli-m)... Do they have anything new in a similar platform?
The closest thing "new" you're going to find will be a Z3 possibly as a leftover in some bow shop. Otherwise, you might try the Z2 which "is" a Z7, but with Extreme cams.
The only negative for the Traverse is it weighs 4.7 pounds. Really? If you can't handle a 4.7 pound bow, how are you going to hump the Elk off the mountain? Or get the deer out of the woods? One of the better inventions they have for handling the weight is called a gym. There are plenty of nice bows out there. Ultralight has it's consequences. The Traverse is an amazing bow to shoot. Your milage may vary.
Bill Campbell thank you for the comment. Did you listen to the rest of the explanation or just key in on that? It’s heavy relative to lighter bows. “”Its not super heavy, but also not in the ‘ultralight’ category.” I also mentioned it was “somewhat by design” and that I would “sacrifice a bit of weight” for quietness. I’m a HUGE fan of the Traverse (favorite bow I've owned, so far). I hiked 59.6 miles in Colorado last year with it in hand (this year’s NM archery hunt was much less strenuous! Be sure To check out that video, as well!)
Again, thanks for the feedback! Stay tuned for another Mathews bow review coming very soon!
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH Oh I listened to the entire article. The entire article was positive, and stated if he had to have a negative it would be the weight. Weight is relative. If you are already carrying 300 pounds of gear, one more light weight gadget sucks. But just by itself a bow of otherwise positive reviews should not be considered negative and be under 5 pounds. Lightweight and speed seem to be the latest hot topics. Then we put stabilizers, wrist slings, and other do dads to make it "better". Just my opinion, your milage may vary.
@@billcampbell1627 your point is valid regarding stabs, back bar stabs, and everything else we add to the bow. I probably should have added “if I’m nitpicking...” instead of stating it’s a negative. To some degree (as stated) it’s a positive in terms of quietness, reduced hand shock, and ability to hold better. Anyway-, new announcement coming from Mathews in just a couple of hours! Stay tuned! Thanks for the discussion.
Elite Ritual 35, smoothest bow i’ve ever shot
Thanks for participating! Lot of love for Elite bows.
Vertex but I already bought one
I would love to see the vertical against the triax
@Boxing 101 That is a matter of opinion . I love my Triax, and would never trade or sell it for a Vertix. The grip on Triax is not huge. The grip on the Vertix sucks. It sucks your hand in, and you can't position your hand. The Triax won all the awards for 2018 bow of the year. What has the Vertix won? I will tell you nothing.
The Triax is a better bow.
I have the diamond dead eye 70 pound 28 1/2 draw Smooth this and most accurate bow ever And I think the fastest very quick And it's single Cam
Mathews vertix im a mathews fanboy
Did he say cinnamon creek archery..?
Why yes...yes he did! 😜
Awsome iv been lookin for a good archery shop. I’ll be headed that way this weekend and picking up a new bow maybe I’ll get the TX-5. I got a 13 year old bow it’s time for a new one thanks..!
I would buy Hoyt RX3 Carbon
The Hoyt carbon bows are not noisy.
Relative to the Traverse and Vertix shown here, the RX3 I heard was SIGNIFICANTLY louder. I’m not bashing on Hoyt, but generally heavier bows absorb more sound and vibration than lighter bows. Thanks for the comment.
Hoyt isn't a loud bow. I shoot Mathews. I own a Halon 6 and a Triax. I know a heavier bow is more quiet and less hand shock. Still Hoyt isn't a real loud bow. The Vertix draws and feels like the Halon 6 on the shot. Triax is a better bow. I want the TX5. Also a 75% keeps you honest and more accurate. One day I will.buy the 75% modules. Lol The guy says too heavier lol 2 oz to 3 oz isnt that much. Maybe he should shoot a old onieda. Lol
Mathews Triax fair enough. But, I stand by the comment that the Hoyt is louder than the two Mathews compared here.
I haven’t shot the TX5, but it’s definitely aggressive! I’m not sure I’d be confident enough to shoot it in uncontrolled hunting situations.
@@Life-of-Bluegrass_Music I agree but compared to the new Mathews the Hoyt is louder
Michael Middleton TBH Yes the Hoyt Carbon bows are very loud compared to most flagships this year
Mathews Vertix
Thanks for watching!
Yep, just bought myself this bow!!!
Oneida Phoenix
Cool!
mathews monster safari.
Weight??? Hoyt helix ultra out of the box is 4,9 lbs do 4,6 or 4,7 is not that REALY heavy
Zbych Zbychowski that’s true. As mentioned, it’s not super heavy, but not exactly considered light, either. I haven’t researched, but I’d be curious to see how the weights stack up between various bows.👍
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH i think mathews Models are just Perfect in Price vs performance , not so explosive experience like bowtech and beter quality than pse and not so overpriced like hoyt, i have traverse with no regrets best bow i have try for last 8 years ( i start my bow adventure 2011)
I think you're spot on with your assessment! Thanks! Keep us posted on how you like the Traverse!
Traverse
Triax
Wish Mathews would make a nice mid grade bow instead of always making bows so expensive
look at the Mission MXR. it is Missions flagship bow. 599 i believe.
Poll Question: If you could purchase ANY bow in 2019, which would it be and why?
Michael Middleton TBH already bought the Vertix this year. It’s smooth, dead quiet and 0 hand shock and it puts the arrows down range. Amazing bow!!!
I wouldn't give my Triax up for one of these two bows. The guys is nuts. The Triax is a very forgiving bow.
Hoyt rx3 carbon
WizZ Den that is a sexy little bow! 👍
Mathews Triax The Vertix is everything the Triax is but better
Hoyt
Anyone know anything about the tactic is it a good bow
neither, get a bowtech
Although I’ve never actually shot a BT, I know they make good bows. But why do you think I should “get a bowtech” other than because it’s what you shoot? Simply a fanboy response?
It is not simply a fanboy response, I can go very full into depth but it might be a little much for youtube comments, but i’ll type it out, although the traverse and vertix are a GREAT shooting bow, BT’s new technology is incomparable. The speed produced but the Realm SR6 with how smooth the draw cycle is, is unbelievable, and to me, the quality of the bow matters, but the customer service matters just as much, with me working in an archery shop for some time now I have just had too many bad experience with Mathews, BT is the easiest company I have worked with, that is why I shoot for BT.
@@pennsylvaniaoutdoorsmen1669 Fair enough. Thanks for elaborating. I've had pretty good luck with Mathews CS, but I don't deal with them frequently.
I had to wait 3 months for a Traverse, and before I ordered the Traverse I only shot the Mathews 2019 line, and when my bow finally came they sent me a Vertix which frustrated me after waiting so long, and the CS just wasn’t as helpful as I hoped, then I shot the Realm SR6 and ordered one immediately, received it in 2.5 weeks, and started flinging arrows with it.
@@pennsylvaniaoutdoorsmen1669 I hate to hear you had issues. That would be frustrating. It sounds like Mathews lost an opportunity to gain a loyal customer. I honestly have never shot a BT, but I know several that do and they love them. In the hands of a capable shooter, most any bow will get the job done! It sounds like you've got that covered. Thanks for the conversation!
the dude on the left is amusing lol. his knowledge is astounding, he is saying all this info like its so new and no one knows about it already....what are you 12th man on the deal team?? everyone already knows all this stuff. lmao!!
LOL! It’s a four year old video! Welcome to the the internets. 🤣
bro their grips suck ass lol. that is the number one complaint on the Mathews bows is the pos grip not anything else. that is why EVERYONE replaces then grips when they first buy a Mathews, the ultra view grip is a must have accessory.
