This reaction has got me in two minds. I’m disappointed you didn’t catch the story threaded through the three tales. Yet I fully understand why. Because you were so wrapped up in the fantastic guitar playing, the artistry of the visuals and how it vocally matched up. Like big guy said (sorry, not learnt your names yet), you need to listen a few more times to catch it all. It’s a masterpiece 🔥 All that being said, enjoyed the reaction and looking forward to the next one (which should be Money Game. Both parts in quick succession).
Thank you for understanding! That's exactly what happened. We were so caught up it glanced by. When I caught it in editing, it was a huge facepalm moment for me! Thanks for watching!!!
I was pretty shocked the overarching plot wasn't commented on. These guys caught a lot of things people normally miss - especially the way he used the stair well specifically for the reverb acoustic - then missed the most important bit :)
@@ThreeShadesofWhatever When I first saw his picking, especially at the beginning of Violet's Tale, I was enraptured. He mentioned (I forget where) that he said he worked on the guitar for this for weeks. Whenever he was watching TV etc, he would go over it over and over until it became muscle memory and his fingers were stronger. The artistry is amazing too! Those graffiti walls are so atmospheric as are the choice they made in the video, like using the cell, and the guitar in screech's tale and how the walk through the hallways is timed perfectly in Violet's Tale. Ren is a bit of a musical chameleon. Both Hi Ren and The Tales are more like theater than traditional music, however there is plenty of rap in his catalog. His music on youtube goes back about 10 years and can also be found in two bands: The Big Push and Trick the Fox. Trick the Fox is from when he was younger. Hope you continue to explore the Ren rabbit hole!
By your reaction at the end of Violet's Tale, I am fairly sure you didn't fully understand the twist. Violet's Tale takes place in 2005, Jenny and Screech are in 2019 (when Ren released them) and they were both 14 years old (2019 minus 2005 = 14 years). Thus, the two "twins lying side by side" were Jenny and Screech. They were brother and sister having grown up separated from birth because Violet died and presumably Stevie (the father of them) went to prison for the murder of Violet. Thus, when Screech killed Jenny (and then him getting shot by the cop one street apart), he had unknowingly killed his own twin sister.
Yeah I thought they missed or never commented on the story but guess we can't have it all. There is talk that Patrick and Screech's girlfriend were busy with each other? This story is a tragedy of epic proportion!

He's a poet, a philosopher, an observer of life, an actor. He has taken rap to a new level that can appeal to everyone of any age. A perfect development of the people's voice for our times. x

Abused women often aren’t allowed to seek ante natal care in case healthcare professionals notice bruising etc. Violet probably didn’t know she was pregnant with twins
Thoroughly enjoyed this, thanks guys, often take laps myself when listen to Ren! Just wait till you hear his rap, singing with Chinchilla or Sam Tompkins and his band The Big Push like others recommended! The versatility and mastery of different genres is beyond words! This Trilogy is its own genre of course! Excited for you to dive more into his music - it's a journey of surprise, heartbreak, compassion and inspiration - just what we crave so much in the music and art!
He’s about 32. He was signed by Sony at 19, then started getting sick and they dropped him. Lyme disease isn’t easily diagnosed and so his symptoms were dismissed as ‘in his head’. For al most a decade he was bedridden and treated with drugs and therapy for psychological problems. He was finally diagnosed with a physical illness, but 10 years untreated affected his body, gave him brain damage AND gave him PTSD re: medical workers and doctors. He still managed to make and mix some music, plus lots practice and writing time. So then he got treatment and started working more and more. The bulk of his catalog is the last 6 years or so, alone, duets with various people, and with a band called The Big Push. This was done in that phase. They were getting a lot of reactor attention and low level uK media attention before Covid. Like many of us they were set back by it. Knowing he was going to Canada for more specialty medical care this year, he recorded a pile of stuff to mix and release over the months he would be gone. hi Ren and Sick Boi have been released so far, there’s something else coming toward the end of March.
Some of my favourites from Ren are Chalk Outlines, How to be Me, Diazepam. Feel like ye would enjoy The Hunger and Genesis as well. Ren also does retakes of classic tracks - rapping & singing over the original instrumentals. My favourite is his Fatboy Slim (Right here right now) retake. His former band The Big Push also have some INSANE covers, they used to busk on the streets of Brighton. Would highly recommend War Pigs, Paint It Black, I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion
Great reaction again fellas. Many have mentioned ' What you want' but also consider checking out 'The Hunger' and 'Losing It, (Fisher rap retake). He goes 'Beast Mode' rap in both of them.
AT LAST!!! Knew you'd choose this and be blown away! Don't worry - he has a massive back catalogue despite all of his problems and THEY'RE ALL GREAT! After this heavy one perhaps try one of his fun ones? Am sure you'd enjoy What You Want :) PS I won't hassle you again - I know you will do more!!
@@ThreeShadesofWhatever ok, well hop on up on those toes because I've got a great request for you. Ren had a band called The Push and his voice is even more versatile then you think. Their live version of Sting's song "Englishman in New York" is amazing and you get to see Ren's great electric guitar skills, In the band he is either playing electric guitar or bass. His "I Shot The Sheriff" video is sick man.
I REALLY REALLY enjoy others enjoying Ren and his art. THANK you for sharing with us your reaction! 😁🙏 Ren does everything he creates in multilevel dimensions. Like super complex on so many levels yet at the same time everything harmonises so perfectly and hes letting it flow so effortlessly, authentic, natural, its a frickin mind blow everytime! And yeah right, like good movies you can watch it several times and can see so many different aspekts in it, you never were able to catch in just one watch. Whats so special to me is that hes not only the definition of real, but he also makes everything by himself. Like everything. With the help of some lovely friends. No label, absolutely independent, low budget yet high quality. I LOVE THAT SHIT!!! What we often overlook is the visuals to the obvious sound/beat/riddim/song creation and the lyrics. Ren not only composes this but as well a flow in the Video, it matches up to the lyrics, the story, the sound so so well, absolutely perfect. Like a show with different backgrounds but not cut together, no, in only one flow, one walk, one cut. This is so epic!!! It all fits together like a huge puzzle and gives an epic final picture you just love and enjoy. Im very curious about your reaction to other stuff of him. 😃 KEEP GOIN!!! 😁 And I dont even make a suggestion except EVERYTHING of him! 😂 You just pick one, you name it, and I tell you that it is epic. 😎

Ren's "story" trilogy is a great modern example of a a traditional folk music type called a murder ballad. Always gruesome, and telling a story of death and woe. He really does an amazing job making it modern, and making it his own. Such an amazing storyteller.
You have to react to ren - what you want paying homage to the beastie boys...and ren and sam tompkins what went wrong pt 1 and pt 2 that has some eminem kind of vibe to it....and ren feat chinchilla there tracks are incredible
Fell in love with you guys instantly, based on personality alone. Then to hear you’re a Billy Joel guy?!?!? Oh man… well I have been to see him live 9 times!!!!! I absolutely ADORE him!!!!! He was my mama’s favorite!! My first concert, was in ‘78, just before I was born! 😆 My ma said that I started going nuts in her tummy!! My favorite show though, was before she passed away. Billy Joel & Elton John, dueling pianos!! LEGENDARY!!!! Oh, and also… I’m a HUGE Renegade!! I LOVE that you linked the two!!!! You’re the first reactor I’ve seen, actually say that!!! He reminded me of him, right off, and I couldn’t place why!!! STORYTELLING!!!!! Absofuckinglutely!!! K.. now to binge the rest of your content! 😂
I've been emotionally blown away by two-hour movies that haunted me for several days afterwards. (The Shawshank Redemption comes to mind.) What's truly amazing is that Ren can accomplish the same thing with a 13-minute video. In fact, all of his videos have had that effect on me.
I always find myself agreeing with most of what big man says! 17:45 Hilarious. Also, as I have watched this many times you compare Ren to Screech so that Ren isn't therefore wearing Dallas. I love that and am with you haha. HOWEVER, I too thought to myself as I look at his face at 18:04 and him screaming at what looks like 12 am or so at the TOP of his lungs with rage in his eyes, "THESE ARE MY FKIN STREETS AND THEY CALL ME FKIN SCREEEEEEH!" I thought hmmmm maybe AT LEAST in some small ways, Ren and Screech have lived some similar rough lifestyles at one time. EDIT: I haven't watched your reaction to my favorite part yet "Violate". You guys started talking about his catalog. These is one song I LOVE he did with his band that he recently split with. It is a JAMACIAN reggae version of "I shot the sheriff / Road to Zion". ua-cam.com/video/uSeCuR51rek/v-deo.html Link to Ren's UA-cam. VERSATILE! NO ONE reacts to this! Last Edit: after watching Violate break her silence and turn to the doctor to "save my babies if I'm to di tonight". A tragedy (Violate fades to black) or a miracle (2 twins aline side by side). One named Jenny and a boy named Screech. MEANING... Violate is the MOTHER of Jenny (sister) and Screech (brother). Jenny and Screech were sent to foster after her dad committed murd3r and Violate (mom) fades. They didn't know each other and happen to cross paths and Screech and well... you get it now!
There is also a video ren made that explains "screech's" melt down over his girl rejecting him over the phone, from another mugging Screech did, stealing a phone and recording his few days before his 4 gun shot demise.... aswell as the police man's perspective after shooting and killing a crazed boy with a knife!
Ren is the whole package sing, rap, beatbox, play, and damn he can do soul with the greats!!!!! Ren and Chinchilla white chalk lines, Ren and Sam, and ofcourse his band The big Push. He's phenomenal!!!
I totally loved the reaction and your admiration for your new found friend Ren. But I'm not sure if you understood how the 3 stories tied together. Violet, whilst in an abusive relationship, gave birth to Jenny and Screech in 2005.... hence rewinding the hands of time. Violet dies and presumably the father goes to prison, so the twins get put into foster care. They get separated and live different lives until their worlds collide 14 years later. Screech robs and kills Jenny and they he gets shot dead by the police. The way he brings it full circle is amazing and I apologise if you did understand the ending....I just wasn't sure
He absolutely planned to be in that exact spot under the stairs in Violet's Tale. If you look, you'll see a mark taped on the floor in the hallway when he sings the line, "She met a boy named Stevie and he was a little prick." Where he is in each point of these songs is very intentional.
It's pronounced Killian Murphy - all love though, glad you guys have continued with the channel, even without the OG's. Oh and it was definitely more Warren G than Snoop Dogg - REGULATORS! If you like story telling in songs i'd recommend 'Dave - Lesley' - similar to this it's not light content at all though.
I often associate Ren with a sort of modern day Bard. A story teller accompanied by classical music, He's reinvented it and brought it back with his own brand and I'm all for it.
Great to see you so excited over Ren. Every song is different. Try Sick Boi. It's a recent release and continues to tell his story from HI Ren. Or try Chalk Outlines, a Ren song he preforms as a duet with another UK singer.
So far its been fun watching you MISS the mark on all his videos. You concentrate and comment in a wonderful way on the oddest things.. so far I have watched your sick boi reaction, your hunger reaction this video reaction. Going to each of your Ren reactions just to see you guys in action.
love the intro chords to jenny's tale, i know it from a 50 cent (i think) track, the chords go to the words "it's best you be a gentleman and you watch what you say", i don't did you even catch that jenny and screech were twins?

YESSS FINALLY! Glad you guys did this, it's a masterpiece.
I love your reactions to REN. He is a very very special person. His words speaks to me. I now write because I understand him .. x
Great reaction gentleman! Ren is truly the modern-day Minstrel storytelling poet bard!🌿💔
Macbeth!!!
AT LAST!!! Knew you'd choose this and be blown away! Don't worry - he has a massive back catalogue despite all of his problems and THEY'RE ALL GREAT! After this heavy one perhaps try one of his fun ones? Am sure you'd enjoy What You Want :)
PS I won't hassle you again - I know you will do more!!
Don't mind being hassled. Keeps me on my toes! 😁
X
@@ThreeShadesofWhatever ok, well hop on up on those toes because I've got a great request for you. Ren had a band called The Push and his voice is even more versatile then you think. Their live version of Sting's song "Englishman in New York" is amazing and you get to see Ren's great electric guitar skills, In the band he is either playing electric guitar or bass. His "I Shot The Sheriff" video is sick man.
Totally agree! :)
Just wait until you guys hear more omg ❤❤
Became arguably my favorite artist of all time in a month and a half
I REALLY REALLY enjoy others enjoying Ren and his art. THANK you for sharing with us your reaction! 😁🙏
Ren does everything he creates in multilevel dimensions.
KEEP GOIN!!! 😁
And I dont even make a suggestion except EVERYTHING of him! 😂
You just pick one, you name it, and I tell you that it is epic. 😎
Please try Hunger or losing it by Ren. He is straight up rapping in those two! It's awesome
I , too, enjoy the unusual and very creative approach Ren takes with his music. Fascinating! Great review gents!
Did you get the ending? - Screech unknowingly killed his twin sister.
No, totally didn't catch that until the editing. Hard to get everything on the first listen. 😁
@@ThreeShadesofWhatever Figured none of you did, since there were no looks of shock when the twist ending was revealed. It’s what connects Violet’s Tale to the trilogy. Enjoyed the reaction nonetheless.
Omg that was amazing thank you ❤❤❤
Thank YOU for watching!!!
Can't wait for you guys to watch "the hunger", "bittersweet symphony", "genesis"... so many great songs. "Chalk outlines (live) ", "blind eyed" ft angry car park attendant is a fun one.
He's been making music for it least 8 years maybe more. Rapping, busking, just whatever he feels like doing. Plays multiple instruments, and makes his own hip hop beats. Love music 1,2,and 3, Hold On, Do Your Believe
Love you guys...Next up...Sick Boi....and then Money Game parts 1& 2...and then ...Chalk Outlines....and then a whole new Ren....The Hunger...Genesis...Power....Losing It....What you Want....Bittersweet Symphony
Watch "In morte, ut in vita, numquam partiemur". Its a clip of Screech dying on the hospital table.
Yes, I have seen it. It’s too bad it wasn’t included in with the trilogy.
Im so glad you did more ren. Also that you said your addicted. I’ve been addicted since myself and each day I wake up with a part of hi ren stuck in my head and walk around singing it like a psycho 😂 this kid is special I mean it. Keep them coming brother. Love your channel.
Ren's "story" trilogy is a great modern example of a a traditional folk music type called a murder ballad. Always gruesome, and telling a story of death and woe. He really does an amazing job making it modern, and making it his own. Such an amazing storyteller.
Check out Ren in his previous band called “the big push” they have amazing love busking performances covering great classics
Ren is a freaking prodigy! We love you Ren. Pls do more Ren! Genius! This one is mind blowing. Hope you catch the story!
Thanks for that, and welcome to the channel!!!
I've been emotionally blown away by two-hour movies that haunted me for several days afterwards. (The Shawshank Redemption comes to mind.) What's truly amazing is that Ren can accomplish the same thing with a 13-minute video. In fact, all of his videos have had that effect on me.
you HAVE to react to REN what you want. You will love it.
I’m so glad you guys picked up on the stairwell. He used it for the echo and reverb. He’s a genius
I should add, it was the promo for the start of this trilogy...
Great reaction guy’s 😊
Yeah, totally missed it in the excitement! Thank you, tho!
He absolutely planned to be in that exact spot under the stairs in Violet's Tale. If you look, you'll see a mark taped on the floor in the hallway when he sings the line, "She met a boy named Stevie and he was a little prick." Where he is in each point of these songs is very intentional.
One of my new favorites are Ren and Sam Tompkins doing blind eyed at the music crowns sessions
Really like your music reactions, and the Save By The Bell debate is hilarious. Love it. 👍
Im glad you caught the christmas song at the start of Jenny's Tale. I noticed it right away, like.. christmas music? I love it though, somehow it fits
Chalk Outlines by Ren! AMAZING!
I’ve watched so many reaction vids but you guys mirror me so well
🤜🤛
Great watching you guys, always bring good energy - but did all three miss the ending? :p
I think Ren and David Bowie are similar in creativity
I think you guys would enjoy Ren feat. Sam Tompkins "What went wrong - Parts 1 & 2" 🙂
LET’S GOOOOO I am so stoked that you reacted to this!!!!!! For the next one, you should do I’m Not a Vampire (revamped)….if you want lol :) :)
If you'd like to hear his "perfect timing song" check out Ren - Bittersweet symphony (The Verve retake), just watch his surroundings carefully
Im glad i found you guys. You are different and i dig it.
the beauty of his art and talent is bringing tears in my eyes every time I go deeper in his songs
Ren is Tommy Shelby of music and you will get even leaner after lapping to Ren's works :)
love the intro chords to jenny's tale, i know it from a 50 cent (i think) track, the chords go to the words "it's best you be a gentleman and you watch what you say", i don't did you even catch that jenny and screech were twins?
You mean God Rest ye Merry Gentleman. A Xmas Carol from England dating back to the 1650's👀
Kids today 🤨 lol
Love your Ren reactions!
Sublime
Ren is definitely incredible
Your smiles are infectious 😁
😁😁
Bittersweet Symphony by REN is AMAZING have to do a react to that
Genius is right...his story telling is up there with I dare say Dylan
Also gave me HEAVY Sublime vibes!!! Sublime meets Snoop.
He probably just liked how the Cowboys jacket looked. I doubt he watches American Football. He might...but I doubt it. I have a playlist of his songs that has over 50 songs and they are all awesome.
The last guy to shake up the music scene of his generation; causing a similar stir, could string together lyricial poetry, sell the stories of his music in a never seen before delivery, also carried an acoustic guitar. He went by the name of Bob Dyan.
Yes. Screech talks with a Liverpool accent. When he yells at Officer Richard you really hear it
REN Live in Brighton busking , I Shot the Sherrif WithThe Big Push Band
More please! Chalk outlines please!
Dude wears the cowboys jacket as he is playing the villain in the second song. Screeches tale. 👌😂
