"Baa, Baa, Black Sheep" is an English nursery rhyme, the earliest surviving version of which dates from 1731. ... Uncorroborated theories have been advanced to explain the meaning of the rhyme, such as that it is a complaint against taxes levied on the Medieval English wool trade.

Saw Korn open for Metallica a few times back in the day when Korn first came out and I’ve never seen an opener get the fans so worked up. There were fights breaking out all over the arena and there were people fighting for fun. They’d be slugging it out, and stop, throw their hands in the air cheering and high five each other! Korn's lead singer put together the soundtrack for the movie the Queen of the Damned. He didn't sing on the album, but he got a few other metal singers to fill in for the songs he helped write. You should check out "Slept so Long" (Jay Gordon of Orgy), "Not Meant for me" (Wayne Static), "Forsaken" (David Draiman), "System" (Chester Bennington), or "Redeemer" (Marilyn Manson). All great songs. Rip Wayne and Chester
Waaaaaaaaay back in the day when they came through Chicago while touring for this album I managed to get the wig that Johnaton Davis was wearing when he walked on stage. That was cool enough for 17 year old me but then I go to show my friend on the ride home and discover at least an eigths worth of weed in it. Needless to say it was a good night.
The first song that I heard of Korn. Been hooked since then. Saw them in 2015,and was waiting for this Song. They played it last with Jonathan coming out and playing the Bagpipes and I went crazy.

Many nursery rhymes were used to either fend off evil things or were told as bed time stories as things that would happen to them if they weren’t good and proper children.

I can say something about nursery rhymes. The most popular are the ones from the XIX century. The lyrics may seam grim, because they are like that. Back in the day, when information wasnt on the TV and not everybody had an acces to newspapers, news was passed mouth to mouth. Children, whom heard those gossips may not understad them, but felt, by the emotional charge, that theire were important and made their own wersions. Many events has theire own equivalent in nursery rhymes, even in more recent events. There was one about Mansons family murders, one about Kenedy's death and many more. PS. It's funny I see a lot of the younger Hip Hop Heads. React to Korn referring to Jonathan Davis's scatting as beatboxing. It's probably the only frame of reference they have to relate to such a thing. But the older Generations remember Jazz and other musicians scatting. Everyone's heard of the Scatman right?
Well there is a very deep meaning of this song, it tackles the dark origins of the nursery rhymes song, we used to sing when we were young, but it has a very deep dark history behind
The nursery rhymes were to teach children about history and what happened. Also like Grimm's Fairy Tales not the light versions but the real versions Were Meant to scare children from not doing things like going into the forest alone and other things I can't remember maybe not trusting old women with candy trying to lower them. Not crying wolf unless there really is a wolf. Etc etc

Every time someone asks “why were nursery rhymes so dark?“ The answer is fairly simple, it’s the same reason why Grimm’s fairytales were pretty dark, their intention was to introduce children to the fact that life can be pretty brutal and they didn’t want to raise their children to be ill prepared for the harsh realities of life. Hence the nursery rhymes and fairytales that while appealing to children have aspects that educate them on, again, to life’s hard reality’s. Basically, they didn’t want to raise a bunch of thin skinned pussies who couldn’t survive, perhaps a lesson that modern parents might want to think about when raising their little snowflakes who crumble at the mere mention of a word or a concept that they don’t agree with, crumbling before such a thing isn’t exactly a solid survival strategy.
