i'm building out a whole playlist on detox-ing from social media 😊check it out: ua-cam.com/play/PLqrBN0N5p3T2pkaMHZbERX7HxPlZjsJR2.html&si=qUSceMFJu_pe3zjB
I'm 23 and I deleted all my social media apps three weeks ago, I feel better mentally, knowing I'm not comparing myself and life to others and then there's no bullying going on and no negativity and most importantly no more migraines from being on my phone 7 hours a day.
Currently decompressing with this video, and also realizing that I myself am addicted to youtube and streaming platforms as well. I have deleted all socials off my phone and limited my time for them on all my devices. The addiction is real was feeling depressed about spending time offline the internet was really my first addiction. Looking forward to quitting social media, I quit alcohol so I know I can do this! Thanks for sharing all these insights !!

Valuable! I’m quitting at 36 and I can’t wait to see what good comes from it! ♥️
Rosy!! that's so exciting!! it's a journey navigating getting off them but it's sooo well worth it! you should totally share your reflections some day further down the line as well! it's challenging but so valuable to have the time and mental clarity back 🌼
totally resonated with the whole video... never had snapchat nor TikTok, thank god, but instagram is what really got to me. lately. I don't spend that much time, but I have noticed that as soon as I press on it, and start seeing the posts, stories, my anxiety turns on. its like automatically, news, fear and scaremongering, aesthetic and overconsumption, expensive items that I know realistically ill never buy, others homes, cars, lives, realationships ... the whole thing, feels just totally and completely off. And that's what 2024 for me was all about: slowly wean off in preparation to discard it all. we should all be living normal happy lives! not being depressed anxious psychos ( adults) in a forever high school drama 😂
thank you so much for sharing your experience Olesea ☀that instant anxiety increase of being on one of the platforms is too real unfortunately!! i actually think you make really wonderful and astute points on how the companies benefit from fear-mongering and pushing overconsumption or content that plays into our insecurities/social comparison etc! now I want to make a video digging into this phenomenon even deeper so thank you for the insightful inspiration 🌻 I'm glad to hear you don't spend that much time on there!! I hope you find your own rhythm and balance with Instagram - for me completely quitting was the only thing to give me peace but i know they're also helpful platforms to have for many reasons 🤷♀it's a very personal decision but it sounds like you're pretty grounded with your conscious and intentional consumption 😊power to you!!
I reasonate with this video so much, especially with the stalking part. I barely have had convos with these random people and I'm just addicted to stalking them. I used to check peoples profiles off the wake up. I eventually stopped but I still sometimes find myself stalking those from my past or randoms. I'm currently on my 30 day social media cleanse even though I have failed numerous times, but I am going to keep trying because it truly is deteriorating my mental health.
i know exactlyyy how that feels!!! it is SO hard when you can point at the thing that's causing you stress/mental health strain (ie. social media) but physically can't bring yourself to get off of it because of how addictive it is!! i'm glad you're trying the 30 day cleanse 😊it'll be REALLY valuable even with a few slip ups!! and if you're already on your way with detoxes here & there, deactivating for periods of time, then you're at least aware of the dynamic it's causing you which is the first step!! cold turkey is the only thing that worked for me ultimately, but it is definitely not a one-size-fits-all solution, it's such a personal decision! I know you'll find your way through ✨💙 i'm going to continue to make videos on this topic because i'm very passionate about it, i have an entire "social media detox" playlist i'm filling out if you're ever interested: ua-cam.com/play/PLqrBN0N5p3T2pkaMHZbERX7HxPlZjsJR2.html it's challenging but we're navigating this together ☘good luck with the rest of your cleanse!!
When I first got into social media, I was living in the times where meeting people in person was a real thing, still. What made me quit social media is when I started to realized the threat I put myself and many people I care about out in the open. Social media is a tine wasting machine and it makes for people to follow you and judge you as a person instead of actually getting to see you in person and really get to learn about you. Social media lowers your value because of the abundance of what most people are looking for online, without the concern of supply and demand. I love to see more people in our generation waking up to see social media for what it really is.
"social media lowers your value because of the abundance of what most people are looking for online" - this is a FASCINATING point!!! thank you so much for sharing! i agree we're somehow almost cheapening ourselves by putting on this funny show on platforms like Instagram, curating an image of ourselves for others to consume rather than keeping some things private for ourselves!📱 i'm also very very happy more people are starting to wake up to the dangers of these platforms! like you allude to, it's so much more worthwhile to get to see people in person and really connect/learn about each other more deeply! 🌄we're living under a rock together hahaha
I resonate with this so much! but most importantly I love love love your mindset! and the points you made about meaningless connections is so true, I recently stopped using snapchat and now I feel like all the conversations I hold with people are a lot more purposeful as we have to go out of our way to talk to each other. Yes my friendship circle is so much smaller now but all my friendships now seem so much more meaningful to me. Getting rid of instagram and TikTok to stop my doomscrolling is my next step, can't wait to see my mind have a break from it all 😆
i'm so glad this mindset connected with you 🤩we're definitely on the same wavelength!! it is so wild how much more meaningful things become when you remove the low-barrier-of-entry ways of keeping in contact! i don't think i understood how many "less friends" it would feel like i have when i first deleted it, but i really just have much deeper friendships with my smaller circle 😊and i would so much rather it be that way! good luck getting off IG and TikTok 💖those ones were MUCH harder for me too but i promise it's SO worth it (after the initial withdrawal period😅)
Hey Kate - I just got a new phone today. As I was reinstalling apps I was contemplating life without social media. I chose not to install one of my accounts, but I think you've convinced me to remove them all. My wife and I do enjoy sending videos/reels back and forth, but I think we could get behind the idea of just talking. What a novel concept! Peace under a rock sounds fantastic!
Hahah regular old conversations with each other?? unheard of!! it's worth trying out life without them and seeing how it feels! if you find yourself missing the little videos, then you can go back to them in a balanced/intentional way - it's just good to be aware of our consumption patterns given these platforms are built to be addictive! when i was first getting off being hooked on the reels/tiktoks, i challenged myself to watch long form content just to heal my attention span - you and your wife could start a new tradition of movie nights :) lots to explore in testing out being off social media!
This video is very wholesome and I agree with every single thing you said. Having social media is like having something literally tied you down. Life without social media is so freeing and liberating. Amazing video, keep it up and keep inspiring ❤
i'm so so glad this resonated with you 😊i appreciate the kind words! it really is so much of a more free and intentional way to live when you aren't as tied down by social media. it's a hard thing to pull yourself away from though given how it's built - i definitely want to continue to make content on this topic!! it's so important in this day and age 🌻
hello from Portugal 🇵🇹 I loved your video and your channel, I've been without social media for months and months but I still scroll a lot on my phone, what social media does to us is so strong... I'm extremely happy to see that many more people are getting it free yourself from them and start living life. It's been a difficult journey but I'm glad there are people like you here to help! 🌸
oh my gosh Portugal!!! i'm so happy you found your way here 😊i love your home country, i've been twice 🥰 you were so right in saying "what social media does to us is so strong"!! i also still struggle with my phone even years later - it's funny though, when you've deleted social media it's like the weather app i that check when i open my phone 😂 i'm also SO happy to see more people resonating with this message and joining the "delete social media" movement!! it's sooo challenging to navigate the journey weening off the platforms but we can all share our stories and be in it together 💓thank you so much for your kind comment and sharing your story!!
I've been on and off social media for years for almost a decade. My reasons were many and they changed over the years. I deleted Instagram this past July for the last time (it was the only account that I continuously created over a over) and never felt better. I also dislike so much that some businesses build everything around their social media presence and it's a bit tricky to find information sometimes. Social media companies offer a neverending catalogue of everything and that takes a toll in many aspects. The most important thing about deleting social media is to feel calmer and better. My life's intentional and more meaningful. Less stressed about all that digital clutter as well. I totally recommend to delete the accounts not just the apps. Great video, it felt like chatting with a friend.
"Social media companies offer a neverending catalogue of everything" - this is SO well said!! it could not be more true! and we're still so early into having these types of digital platforms it's impossible to know the full effects they have on us✍i'm really glad you found your way to a more intentional life as well 🌻it makes all the difference! thank you so much for sharing your story and the support 😊 trying to get better at talking more naturally on camera as I start my YT journey so i'm really glad this one resonated with you!!
@@kate.cassidy I’m seeing your channel, I have some On-Page SEO Problem in your UA-cam Channel. On-Page SEO Means Your Video Title,Tag,Descriptions optimized. You are not using High Volume and Low competitions keyword research according to your video content.
i'm so excited you're exploring this next chapter off social media 💌it is definitely a hard decision to make and it does take courage!! the beginning is honestly super challenging but will be SO worth it when you look back on this moment years later!! proud of you already - good luck with the journey ☘
thanks Shayene 🥰i'm so glad you found it!! also something crazy - Oxford Dictionary literally JUST named "brain rot" their "word of the year" 😳SO wild, definitely going to need to do a video on that soon!! i just found it out
@ OMG yes! I saw that and was like there is no way they’re trying to make “brain rot” a normal part of people’s vocabulary????? Absolutely would love to see a video on this!
it's so good and healthy to take breaks! helps keep you balanced and in charge of your own consumption - then you can go back on in an intentional way!
I'm so glad you found something that resonated with you here 😊this is why I started making videos - to connect with like minded individuals! thank you so much for your support ❣
Yeah, I'm done with all social media as well outside of UA-cam. I use it as a cable replacement, for educational purposes, and mainly watch it on the television. What still annoys me is being out in public and just seeing the # of people constantly having their phones out for social media takes. Like, can anyone just live in the moment?? It also irks me when watching a movie with a group somewhere or at the movie theater and they still are scrolling through whatever social media app. TikTok syndrome is real, people's attention spans are shrinking to the point where they can't even sit and enjoy a simple movie that they paid for.
oh i know how that feels.... especially once you've gotten off social media it becomes impossible to not start seeing how addicted other people are 😓i notice it the most on my commutes, seeing other people scrolling endlessly on the train, never looking up! it's like we need to start to build intentional communities for people who are trying to spend less time online/are off social media so we can all meet each other and hang out 😄 i haven't been to a movie in a while but that is WILD that people are doing it still in the movie theater - so grim!! even at home i try to be super intentional - when i'm putting a movie, i'm *watching that movie fully* and put my phone away! it's a good push way to push my attention span too 🌻 thank you so much for your comment!! i'm really glad this resonated so much with you ♥it's a crazy world out there but we're in it together!
Congratulations on making some intentional choices on where you invest your time and attention! While I'm pretty sure I only spend minimal time on social media, I wonder if/when I'll get off it entirely...
thank you so much Rob!! it's been soooo beneficial for me - i think so long as you're intentional with your consumption and wary of some of the detrimental effects, it can be fine 😄if you do ever want to get off I have a whole social media detox series on my channel! if you ever get off entirely or try to take a full break, would love for you to come back and share your experience :) it's such an individual journey!
I deleted social media two days ago.is it normal to feel empty ? I feel I'm sad but at the same time I don't wanna go back you emmm I don't know how to explain it
this is SUCH a good question and I can't believe I didn't touch on it (the challenge of the non-scripted ramble haha). honestly this could be its own video - i'm going to pin to keep in mind! i won't lie, it is HARD at first!! for FOMO with my social circle/people i know, i found not being on social media very healing! no pressure to perform, no wondering "oh why are these people all out together and why wasn't i invited?" - you spend enough time not stimulated by those sort of those and living intentionally/for yourself becomes very natural! now when it comes to missing out on cultural moments/not being able to relate, this is a very real feeling and will continue... but you get used to it! i was at a party recently and found myself unable to relate whatsoever to a chronically online friend - we just couldn't find common ground for conversation since she mainly is interested in pop culture and TikTok trends! for me, i just recognize that this is a trade off! i have my peace of mind and am generally less stimulated, but i'm also the last to know a pop news story or internet trend. it's funky but you just kind of shift your priorities over time and it impacts you less, but it does take time...
I’ve never heard someone have the same problems with instagram as me! Why was I so concerned with someone’s ex or the aunt of a friend I made 3 years ago?? So strange but I couldn’t stop and occasionally still want to know what they are doing. Only 3 weeks completely off all social media. Do you still feel really connected to your phone after 3 years? Does that urge to pick it up go away?
amazinggg congratulations on 3 weeks!!!🎉🌼 and girl we are one and the same hahah "the aunt of a friend i made 3 years ago" is SO relatable! there must be more people who struggle with this out there but it's true people don't talk about this ✨flavor✨of Instagram addiction at all!! i'm glad you found your way here, we're in it together! while the constant urge to pick up and check has definitely waned over the years, i've found that habit a hard one to beat!! what's nice is when you don't have social media to check, the pick-ups become really short lived once you remember you have nothing to check in on. like there's the time and the weather app 😂(which admittedly i started checking way more once i was off social media - it's funny how you try to supplement your addiction with other things). it's definitely gotten better with time and having less stimulating stuff on my phone to get sucked into, but goodness the tech itself is still addictive! i actually just made a video on some of the practices i use to heal my relationship to tech (ua-cam.com/video/stxElrrtrqY/v-deo.html) - this is an area i'm fascinated in and want to connect with other people on, so will continue putting out content on my own journey detoxing for social media and constant digital stimuli!
What is bizarre to me is that we get social media when we are all in university, which is quite possibly when we have more access to like minded, young people than any other time of our lives. Make it make sense.
WOW that is such a good point too!! for me it was even younger, middle school is when my peers and I started sneakily lying about out ages to get on facebook 😵💫but exactlyyy - it's like they almost take away the best part of our youth, the fact that we *can* be so connected to like-minded communities and living closer together and have this great opportunity for deep real-life relationships! i am optimistic that in the future we'll do digital literacy education at an earlier age but man.... these platforms have run away with our time & attention for so long with their addictive qualities 😕
@ hello!! ☺️ thank you for having me! Yes me too with the US, always wanted to see it. we’re going to South America next year so we’re heading in the right direction! You’ll have a friend in Melbourne when you make it down ! ❤️
I found your channel and love this! I deleted my Tiktok after one of them went viral because it just felt too weird. I deleted snapchat sometime in 2020. Instagram I teeter a bit because I keep it deactivated most of the time, only reactivating if I join a new organization to friend some people, but after a few weeks I always end up deactivating because of the addictive qualities. UA-cam shorts however is what gets me and I find myself scrolling a lot of the time, but it's a work in progress! I have facebook, but I don't have a problem with it, I check it for notifications on my computer and that's about ittt. Since deleting most of these media accounts, I do feel like I'm living under a rock but I'm glad about it. I keep up with what I care about and text the people I want friendships with and have more time to do what I want. #TeamLivingUnderARock
#TeamLivingUnderARock i LOVE that, we need t-shirts 😂 oh my gosh the experience of going viral is totallyyyy a strange one, i feel you there! Instagram I'm happy I'm off entirely but to your point, there are some very real reasons that make it a useful platform to have access to on occasion! it's good to deactivate and give yourself breaks when you can 😊i've personally been trying my very hardest to avoid YT shorts all-together just knowing i could get sucked back in - it's challenging since they push that format so much now, but i find the long form content more satisfying for me anyway :) like you said, it's all a work in progress and learning how to navigate your own personal relationship with all this digital stimulation! i'm glad you found your way to my channel, this is definitely something i loveee to connect with people on so we can share perspectives/stories! having more time to connect with yourself, do what you want, and pour your energy into the true, deeper friendships is the best, most rewarding feeling after going deeper down the social media rabbit hole! wouldn't trade it for anything now 🌻
Subscribing to help out another small channel get a new follower! I am only on social media on Sunday, mostly just to keep in touch with people and to post content for the business. I schedule content so I have two or three posts spaced out. But I am strongly considering hiring someone to run the business account. Same as you, the 2012 to 2020 era was great, so much fun, and now it is so much fake BS to be monetized I can't stand it.
it's actually so unfortunate how this excessive monetization scheme has ruined the platforms (and basically the whole internet) 😭just trying to squeeze every last dime out of the consumer, it's egregious! scheduling content and having a regimented way you're using it is so smart!!! i have wondered how people who don't love social media navigate using it for their business purposes (because of course if you're a business you do need to be on there for marketing and such!). sounds like you have a really clear mind about it which is great 😊all about developing our personal relationships with it at the end of the day!! thanks so much for sharing your experience and the thoughtful comment ♥
i've actually never heard of this diet before!! I just started reincorporating meat into my diet after 4 years as a vegetarian so I'll investigate this 😋🥘thank you for your recommendation!!! I appreciate you :)
Paula!! thank you so very much - it means a lot! I'm glad this resonated with you 🥰I'm actually planning on making another video in this series later this week 🌅stay tuned!
it's such a classic cycle 😅i used to feel like i was improving and then when i'd get back on i'd just sink right back into my old patterns (if not even more so to "catch up" on everything I had missed while I was off)! i'm glad you're exploring how to break the deactivation rotation entirely💮i hope you heal your relationship with the platforms however is best for you ☘

TikTok syndrome is real, people's attention spans are shrinking to the point where they can't even sit and enjoy a simple movie that they paid for.
oh i know how that feels.... especially once you've gotten off social media it becomes impossible to not start seeing how addicted other people are 😓i notice it the most on my commutes, seeing other people scrolling endlessly on the train, never looking up! it's like we need to start to build intentional communities for people who are trying to spend less time online/are off social media so we can all meet each other and hang out 😄
i haven't been to a movie in a while but that is WILD that people are doing it still in the movie theater - so grim!! even at home i try to be super intentional - when i'm putting a movie, i'm *watching that movie fully* and put my phone away! it's a good push way to push my attention span too 🌻
thank you so much for your comment!! i'm really glad this resonated so much with you ♥it's a crazy world out there but we're in it together!
Great video
I deleted social media two days ago.is it normal to feel empty ? I feel I'm sad but at the same time I don't wanna go back you emmm I don't know how to explain it
How do you deal with the fear of missing out or feeling left out/unable to relate?
this is SUCH a good question and I can't believe I didn't touch on it (the challenge of the non-scripted ramble haha). honestly this could be its own video - i'm going to pin to keep in mind!
i won't lie, it is HARD at first!! for FOMO with my social circle/people i know, i found not being on social media very healing! no pressure to perform, no wondering "oh why are these people all out together and why wasn't i invited?" - you spend enough time not stimulated by those sort of those and living intentionally/for yourself becomes very natural!
now when it comes to missing out on cultural moments/not being able to relate, this is a very real feeling and will continue... but you get used to it! i was at a party recently and found myself unable to relate whatsoever to a chronically online friend - we just couldn't find common ground for conversation since she mainly is interested in pop culture and TikTok trends! for me, i just recognize that this is a trade off! i have my peace of mind and am generally less stimulated, but i'm also the last to know a pop news story or internet trend. it's funky but you just kind of shift your priorities over time and it impacts you less, but it does take time...
i just made a follow-up video on this question :) ua-cam.com/video/xKu_8UblEsA/v-deo.html
Does that urge to pick it up go away?
amazinggg congratulations on 3 weeks!!!🎉🌼
and girl we are one and the same hahah "the aunt of a friend i made 3 years ago" is SO relatable! there must be more people who struggle with this out there but it's true people don't talk about this ✨flavor✨of Instagram addiction at all!! i'm glad you found your way here, we're in it together!
while the constant urge to pick up and check has definitely waned over the years, i've found that habit a hard one to beat!! what's nice is when you don't have social media to check, the pick-ups become really short lived once you remember you have nothing to check in on. like there's the time and the weather app 😂(which admittedly i started checking way more once i was off social media - it's funny how you try to supplement your addiction with other things). it's definitely gotten better with time and having less stimulating stuff on my phone to get sucked into, but goodness the tech itself is still addictive! i actually just made a video on some of the practices i use to heal my relationship to tech (ua-cam.com/video/stxElrrtrqY/v-deo.html) - this is an area i'm fascinated in and want to connect with other people on, so will continue putting out content on my own journey detoxing for social media and constant digital stimuli!
Planning this now i am so done with it also the pornography on there is not normal😪😪
that's exciting you're planning to try to ween off them :) it's a challenging but wonderful and healing journey!!! good luck!!
With time, the upspeak will subside as well.
oooo that's such an interesting observation!! i hadn't heard of this concept before - thank you for introducing me!
Hello from Melbourne ! 🇦🇺
hellooo Robbie 🤩👋i'm so glad you found your way here!!! I'm doing to make it out to Australia some day, i've heard incredible things about Melbourne ✈
@ hello!! ☺️ thank you for having me! Yes me too with the US, always wanted to see it. we’re going to South America next year so we’re heading in the right direction! You’ll have a friend in Melbourne when you make it down ! ❤️
i just made a follow-up video on how to deal with FOMO being off social media! check it out: ua-cam.com/video/xKu_8UblEsA/v-deo.html
#TeamLivingUnderARock i LOVE that, we need t-shirts 😂
oh my gosh the experience of going viral is totallyyyy a strange one, i feel you there!
@ welcome! 👊🏻💜
Try the carnivore diet and see if your skin doesn't clear. 💛
i've actually never heard of this diet before!! I just started reincorporating meat into my diet after 4 years as a vegetarian so I'll investigate this 😋🥘thank you for your recommendation!!! I appreciate you :)
I have youtube new sub 😊
Paula!! thank you so very much - it means a lot! I'm glad this resonated with you 🥰I'm actually planning on making another video in this series later this week 🌅stay tuned!
@kate.cassidy hello thanks for answer me okay
I also tried the whole “let me deactivate for a minute” cycle 😂. Hence why I’m here🩷
it's such a classic cycle 😅i used to feel like i was improving and then when i'd get back on i'd just sink right back into my old patterns (if not even more so to "catch up" on everything I had missed while I was off)! i'm glad you're exploring how to break the deactivation rotation entirely💮i hope you heal your relationship with the platforms however is best for you ☘
