If you watch this video, thank you so much! I have a prayer request for anyone watching. Please pray for financial breakthrough for Nate and I. We had some unexpected things come up. We found a strange lump on our dog, Arwen, and we have to get some testing done, plus we are struggling. Finances can be very stressful, so please pray for us if you could. If you have any prayer requests, please leave them below as I'd love to pray for you in return. God bless 🙏 UPDATE: my doggo is okay! sorry for the late update! the thing just fell off as the vet was trying to biopsy it. Apparently these masses are common in younger dogs. In other news, my back molar however is THROBBING. Something is wrong with it and I am currently having a panic attack, so pray for me please. Also, just lost two people in my family on the same day. I would appreciate prayers for comfort and healing for my family and Nate's family.
@@susannahfriesenofficial I will pray for you. I recently found an elderly stray cat, blind, ill, malnourished. The vet expenses are up to the thousands. And still going up. But I keep trusting that God will continue to provide. And this cat has brought joy to my son who was grieving the passing of a precious cat we had for many years. I tell myself that “God brings the cold according to the blanket”. Praying and trusting. Sending you much love.❤️
People have forgotten that being blessed and rich is having a roof over your head a pillow to rest your head on and food in your fridge. Material things come and go.
My happiness skyrocketed once I realized that 80% of social media feeds are just infomercials, cleverly disguised are "real" people's lives. They're not real. Their houses and closets are the new TV sets, the products they are showing are work expenses they get back by selling their aesthetic to you. What you get to see is the best take/picture out of 30 to 300 they have done. Comparing yourself to that is like comparing your life to the one you see in movies or TV shows.
This is a good outlook and sadly correct! Theres no harm in sharing things you own and whatnot, or things you are loving lately, but people just take it tooooo far
@@susannahfriesenofficial Do you make enough money that it’s worth it up stay on social media ? I would rather get out in the real public with real face to face people relationships rather than here on UA-cam. You live with your in laws ?
@@D.von.N I think they were saying to the lady that posted this, to stay off social media. Some people are not fazed by what others pretend to have or do have and others think they’re failures because of seeing peoples “successes”. I’ll bet most of those so called successes are riddled with multiplying debt ! We have 2 older vehicles. My iPhone is an 8, had it for over 5 years now. I have a friend who makes fun of me for that and I ask them how much they pay in rent ? Because my home doesn’t have a mortgage on it and I owe no banks any money. And it’s so freeing.
Today I was suicidal and felt like relapsing after years of not harming myself. This video brought me back to myself and the black hole I had been lately. God bless y’all, this world is hard.
I hope you're seeing this now because happy new year! You're awsome and strong to stay in here ❤ it's hard, been there myself. But I realised how much to love there is, even the little animals, people struggling around us. Love and help all of them
I stopped 90% of social media when an influencer in a video I was watching kept going on and on about how she was so excited to “style her pantry” in her new house. The absurdity of styling one’s pantry-- it’s the INSIDE of a cupboard, ffs. I hope we’re finally starting to see the beginning of the end of influencer driven over consumption.
"Comparison is the thief of joy." I spent way too many years changing my style both in clothing and house. So much wasted effort. Minimalism (six years) and simple living, having a small house, having fewer things have all lead to a richer life. Yes, even in money. We have more when we spend less. Thank you for your grateful heartfelt message. I too am so dang grateful!
You mean what poor people live like not normal people right? I don’t have an aesthetic house and am quite resentful and bitter about being poor and it’s hard not to compare with rich people. So it’s ok to be poor? What’s normal?❤😊
@@angeladesilva7913 I think you totally missed the point. You sound painfully American. Do you realize that the poorest American are richer than 80% of the world. Are you starving with no shelter or are you simply ticked off you can't buy nicer things? It's okay to want to work harder, to attain more, but it's far better to be grateful for what you DO have and be thankful for what are ARE able to do. Not trying to be mean, but I am trying to provide some perspective I think is lost on people these days.
Really appreciate you briefly showing the parts of the room outside of the beautiful backdrop! Reminds me that my house is normal and it's not realistic to live in a perfectly curated space in real life.
I’m so glad that you liked that! My room is a mess majority of the time, I usually have one designated day where I clean up everything but sometimes it doesn’t happen. Plus my filming space is the size of a shoebox 😂 well, my room is already to begin with! I’d rather live in a house that looks homey and lived in, rather than a house that looks like no one lives in it. My whole childhood was filled with my mom making me clean, making the house spotless, if there was a crumb on the counter i’d have to clean the whole house again. There is so many other stories about this, but to this day, it looks like no one lives there, and it didn’t feel like a home, more like a place where you feel you can’t touch anything.
When you were showing your pantry and fridge it’s the first time I’ve realized how the original influencers were people who published cook books and home guides for how to manage a house and family, actual helpful advice to make people’s lives better. Now instead of helping, lifestyle/home/cooking influencers are pushing buying things with content that makes people feel worse instead of knowing more.
I'm 30 & 6 months into being 30, its like my frontal lobe developed again. I no longer cared about aesthetics & more about "What's the easiest way I can keep everything clean on the daily with a 3 year old"😂
Just a comment: absolutely no one NEEDS subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. Those subscriptions add up over time, and everyone can live without them. They are simply wants. Make food at home, buy things when they are on sale or have discounts, be mindful of your spending, be thankful for all your blessings! My husband and I are definitely below the poverty level for where we live so we definitely have to spend carefully as we have rent, groceries, gas, electricity, and internet to pay for each month. We're both college students, though we are both SO blessed to have no debt and we will work our bums off to keep it that way. I Thank God for His goodness and all the blessings he has given us and that we are able to afford our basic necessities while going to school. Thank you for your honesty and for sharing your experiences, it makes me feel so much better about not having an "aesthetic" home and for having things shoved in closets and no cutesy curtains or pretty lighting or fresh flowers every week (flowers are expensive!). Thank you for helping me realize that our home is what most people's homes look like. God bless.
We need more content like that, so refreshing! I am almost 34, living in UK, moved here from Poland 11 yrs ago. I used to run my own shop together with my husband, after c*vid we closed it as it was sinking down. Now he is working in the office while I work part time in supermarket and I just started studies online. We are renting a house, probably will never buy property like that as we can’t afford it - with all the prices going up we can’t save money for the contribution to mortgage. We never been on holidays abroad, the only trips we can afford is going once per year to Poland to see our family. Not having a car either. Almost everything in the house was bought as a second hand. I am buying clothing etc on Vinted, sales, can’t afford going to shops like H&M and buy new collections. This is real life of majority of people everywhere.
Wow, thank you so much for sharing. Exactly! It is the real life of majority of people everywhere, yet everything we see online (for the most part) is filled with overconsumerism, and wealth, which causes the majority to feel like garbage for not being able to afford to live the same way-regardless of how hard they try. I pray things get better for you and your family, and that you can eventually have the life you always dreamed of. My husband and I thought of moving to the UK, but even doing that costs more money than we can afford! I bet it's beautiful though. I'm sorry you guys had to shut down your shop, that must have been very hard. I used to work in healthcare, but recently left. It pays more, but it's not worth losing my sanity, or jeopardizing my mental health just for a slightly bigger paycheque.
I deleted all my social apps 3 months ago! (Except university of UA-cam lol) I feel so much better. I find myself finding my creativity again… I allow boredom to set in when I’m in line at the grocery store, when I’m sitting on the toilet, when I’m riding in the car with my husband. Every moment does not need to be filled with entertainment & false perception of other people’s lives. I also find that I am really enjoying activities & not consumed with needing to document it all with a photo. And it has been incredibly sobering to see, that no one really cared about me anyway. I don’t say that in a pathetic way… but go ahead and delete your social media & see how many people reach out & actually notice. I’ve had 2 people notice 😂 Life is meant to be lived. So go LIVE it!
WOW, this video needs to go viral. Someone told my husband the other day "I am not aesthetic enough" and he replied to her, "She's a normal entertainment reporter, she's not trying to be someone that isn't. CRAZY times we live in.
I went through the same. I started a UA-cam channel recently and soon after I deleted a few of my videos just because I realized that with my outdated not "all white" kitchen and house I don't stand a chance. I also noticed how my perception of my house changed (after watching some peoples vlogs). I always loved and cherished my home, but suddenly I started to feel frustrated because I didn't have all this modern decor and didn't have a budjet to change and update and upgrade... Thanks God I realized what's going on with me and I consciously forbade myself feeling that way. Everyday I remind myself how happy I am and how much I love my home!
oh my gosh! that is so sad! I'm sorry that happened. However, you just be proud of your home! More "unaesthetic" creators are coming out, and people LOVE that content! It's relatable! Don't be afraid to create content!
I just started a page with homemaking, cooking, cleaning tips, recipes. And was quickly discouraged when I see the insane amount of PERFECT houses, perfect angles , lighting, food.. I just don’t know if I should even continue my content.
I am so thankful that you talk about this. As someone who thinks a lot and is perfectionistic to the point where I just suffer, like OCD, this is so important for me, to just relax and live in the real world.
Forget the word aesthetics and just be responsable, clean and productive, learn the old ways of making a home or room beautiful within your means. It’s called household economy and good housekeeping!
Wow i have met my twin! So glad i subscribed to this channel. My husband and i have been together for 13 years, married for 4. I live with my inlaws too in the basement and as much as we are desperate to leave we have to think financially as well. I have quit my retail job almost 6 months ago to focus on my health and it has improved tremendously. We have no gone on a vacation alone all these years too. We are also survival mode. We only have money to pay rent, car insurance, gas, phone bills and credit cards and we go geocery shopping every 5-8 weeks. We try to stretch our food as much as possible and some days i dont eat, i dont mind starving for the day or 3/4 of the day. This is also a wonderful life lesson, when you are broke, you appreciate life so so much more and understand the value for a dollar. When i worked fulltime i was carelessly spending money left and right thinking its ok its just $100, never again
Thank you so much for talking about all this. Absolutely true! This overconsumption is a trend all over the world now. I am from Russia and it is exactly the same here. Cool photos from Instagram, beautiful "successful" girls with fake lips and self tanning, whose houses are filled with clothes, decor, cosmetics and jewelry. Perfect containers and everything is always perfectly in order... it creates a constant feeling of ugliness, unchosenness, poverty, unhappiness for ordinary women. You are very sweet and reasonable, thank you for raising this topic.
This! I see alot of people that come into my workplace, specifically that come from Russia, and they all have botox or fillers and I'm just like whyy... some of them don't realize that it actually makes them look worse. There is beauty in aging naturally. thanks for watching!
Finally someone is genuinely talking about this ...I always used to think that how beautiful and aesthetic everyone's lifestyle is nowadays..and used to compare myself with them .. Thankyou for this video !!!❤
Wow! I cannot tell you how much your video has affected me. I have been fighting jealousy for years, feeling like we don’t have enough, everyone else seems to have more. I’m 41 and we have three kids in a too-small (2-bedroom) apartment with no yard. We both want to live a more minimalist lifestyle and have a clean, cluster-free environment but it is simply impossible. Our place is so overstuffed with stuff because it’s too small. We have piles of stuff everywhere which we can’t hide because there is nowhere to put it. I too, have aspired to that beige and white look, or also the hunter green walls which you showed, but have felt for so long that it’s simply hopeless. The ONLY thing that helps is gratitude. Unfortunately it’s so easy to forget about being grateful in the everyday, and your reminder was simply wonderful.
aw thank you so much!! I can understand that. Nothing is impossible though! We just need to have faith. I know sometimes (or most of the time) it can seem bleak. We can always have dreams, but the only thing that helps is gratitude! Reminding ourselves that we are blessed to have a roof over our head, no matter how small. Food in our bellies. That is so much more than some people can ever hope for.
Yes!! Gratitude has helped me too , and absolutely helps to ground me in the perspective of what’s truly important. I’m dreaming of a home and leaving apartment living behind, but it does feel so far away or unobtainable at times though. The beautiful showcase of influencer homes and curated spaces does not help me feel better, but gratitude certainly does. ❤❤
i'm less than a minute in, and i grew up in the 90's and there were definitely boxes we had to fit in. cliques were the old anesthetics. your hobbies usually were the same as your group of friends. and if you stuck out or had your own interests, you were heavily bullied by your peers.
Hmm, that isn’t my experience. I’m just pointing out that the word “aesthetic” wasn’t around. Like clean girl, soft girl, that girl? those things weren’t a thing. the only thing that I can think of from back when I was born (in 1996), that was prominent in my highschool years was “tumblr girl” and that was when social media first started becoming more popular. However I was bullied by my peers, especially in elementary school, but not because of my hobbies.
@@susannahfriesenofficialI'm going to make one correction in your response, the word "aesthetic" is an old word and has always been around. With the advent of social media, some words have become more widely used, and often times without proper context and or incorrectly. As an English major and an avid reader, I've definitely noticed a lot of words that weren't often widely used are now being used more often as a result of social media, and more people being exposed to words, terms, and phrases that they may not have used previously.
@@susannahfriesenofficialI think there’s a difference between “I was born in the 90s” and “I grew up in the 90s.” As someone who was in high school in the 90s, yes there were aesthetic identities (jock, band geek, nerd, cheerleader, etc.), we just didn’t call them “aesthetics” because they weren’t ONLY aesthetic even if there was an aesthetic component to these identities.
Social media used to be a place to connect and keep in touch with people but now it’s a competition to show off or pretend to be someone that you’re not. Which is why I left social media completely last year and never looking back.
This is why I started a UA-cam. The hamster wheel of social media especially when you have a business is too much. YT is slower and the lifespan of what you create is much longer. I’m fighting intrusive thoughts of just deleting my social media. If I didn’t have a business it would already be gone.
@@eliseshootsfilm I’m loving UA-cam so much! I wish I took it seriously before because in Canada, not only is UA-cam slower, and the lifespan longer; but it’s also the only platform that actually rewards you for the time and effort you put in! I’m so thankful to everyone who has watched my videos because everything I’m making here is going towards paying off debt from my hubby’s health expenses. It’s been a blessing, even if small🥰
I just don't use tiktok or instagram. since becoming a Christian I've become so un materialistic lol. we aren't going to take anything with us when we die. it makes me wonder what the point of money and getting stuff is? I do like getting books and stuff, but I don't really care about trends. I do like things that look nice though. I think a lot of drama we experience happens online and just shutting off our phones will let us actually rest. also everyone is human and no one's life is perfect, even people who live seemingly perfect lives on social media. even though I don't really struggle with this topic, I know there are a lot of people who do, so thank you for talking about this
I am so glad! I have definitely become unmaterialistic since becoming a Christian as well. Money is definitelya blessing, but I know and trust that God WILL provide when needed. Trends come and go all the time too, so theres no point in trying to keep up with them! Thank you for watching this video today even though you don't struggle with this! 💛
I really appreciate you making this video! Social media can cloud our minds into thinking we don't have enough when the little things in life alone are blessings
The first video of yours that has popped up on my feed and it is one of the best videos I have ever watched on my, nearly a decade, being on the internet. I definitely see myself coming back to this video from time to time. I am actually creating a new playlist rn titled "Reminder", just to add this video to it.
Thank you! I am an old lady so I already know these things from living a full life. You are educating people younger than me for whom social media matters. We really need you!
appreciate the realness and transparency about the small messes in your space. seriously. makes me feel more normal and less... terrible. i literally felt my body relax just seeing you show those things. ty for sharing. subbed.
I think one of the biggest lies in this modern age is that everything is not enough. We’re constantly bombarded with the next best thing and in turn are always chasing it instead of taking a moment to slow down and enjoy what we have. This is why I’m trying to get back into physical media like vinyl and cds and be more intentional with my entertainment and hobbies. I want to truly take the time to enjoy things and feel less pressured to keep up with trends. God bless you, what a lovely take! 💖
Thank you so much for your kind words! I completely agree with you; taking the time to enjoy our hobbies is so important for our well-being. Your perspective is truly refreshing!
This video popped up as I am at the airport flying back home (Italy) after spending two weeks in Colombia. Here I have seen how some people live in conditions that go from complete poverty to decent/normal life with absolutely no concept of aesthetic/trends/beige houses/organizers for everything etc. I have seen people living in the street surviving with so little yet they feel blessed and grateful for their lives. You, and I don’t need any of the stuff we see on social medias 🙏🏻
The crazy thing is that we all know it's not real, yet it still effects us, but the surge of people showing the normal living conditions like most of us is definitely a step in the right direction, it will help us and future generations to feel normal again and get over the constant feeling of not being good enough.
Thank you for keeping it real girl! As the mother of a teenager, Im trying to help them understand that what they see on social media is not real, and that it’s important not to fall into the comparison trap, or the trap of buying all the “stuff” influencers insist you need to have. Appreciate your video.
Thank you. I’m getting back into content creation, close to getting monetized. But this is such a great reminder. I am sooo blessed and I really needed to hear this. Thank you
Susanna, Thank you for being so brutally honest! It is so refreshing to be reminded that most "influencers" are playing a role. Our worth should never be gauged by the standards of others. Even if this really is their life, most do not reflect gratitude in their presentation. I would like to see them donate some of their un-used products to a charity, or share with their subscribers. I would like to see them show how you can buy dupes, or use alternative makeup, home decor etc. I am 63 years old. My greatest lesson i have learned in life is not to worry about what others think of you. Focus on yourself(and your reality)and your family and friends. Keep God in front of you, and in your heart, then you will have all you need. ❤
Definitely social media makes things much much worse, but there has been this longing for “that” lifestyle since forever. It used to come through the TV and magazines. Not saying your’re wrong of course; you are absolutely correct and this needs to be said WAY more often!
Thank you for this video! Some of us understand the reality behind influencers online, but it still feels like a burden is lifted every time we watch a video saying what you just said. Thank you for keeping it real...
Thank you so much for being completely honest! I never would have imagined showing my "messy" (which is really just normal life) on camera. I used to think only brave people could do that, but it's eye-opening to realize how unnecessary that belief is. Thank you again-I'm feeling much more at ease in my room (and with my life) now. 💛
Thank you for sharing that video. I'm a 21-year-old from Germany, and lately, I’ve been feeling like my life isn’t going anywhere. I lost my job, and now I’m living off unemployment benefits. I constantly hear this voice in my head saying, "You’re 21, you should be traveling, exploring new places every week!" But then I snap back to reality-my bank account only has a few euros, and most of it is saved for when I start moving out, not for impulsive trips to the USA. I find myself comparing my life to others, thinking, "Look at what they’re doing in their 20s-they’ll have so many stories to tell, and here I am, eating a burger at Burger King." But videos like yours help me realize that these thoughts are just noise in my head.
We all have those thoughts. I have those thoughts as well, esp when my younger sister has a place of her own, her own business and travels to LA all the time for work! Yet here I am living with my in-laws for the 5th year in a row. We just need to learn to be content with where we are at and life will get so much better.
Thank you! This needed to be said. I wish more people view this video to break this cycle that only leads to feelings of depression and inadequacy. I just found your channel and I’m grateful that you are speaking for us Canadians. I will pray for you. Keep your trust in God and his will. He is always with us during difficult times.
Thank you so much for commenting! Thank you for your prayers as well. I hope more people view this video too! I think its something that needed to be said and something im super passionate about.
I’m so glad that we have someone young like you warning the young. Because when people like me speak against social media I’m seen as old fashioned and outdated. But social media is so toxic - it’s all about vanity, materialism, superficial beauty .. but diverting our attention and time away from cultivating inner beauty Everyone of us has only limited 24 hours a day and only 16 hours (less sleeping and eating). If we spent so much focus on all these vanity and materialism touted by social media, where can there be mind space for more macro and sound stuff about life or our country or the world ?
0:48 I would contend we still did have to fit the boxes. They were just not laid out in text for us. Growing up as an older millennial, in the mid-90s and early 2000s, there were definitely things you were supposed to enjoy/own to 'fit in', and others that made people point and laugh at you if you did. Everyone was still trying to dress and act the same - it was just more self-contained, to either your school or your neighbourhood or whatever.
Agree I will always blame it on media growing up I wanted to be skinny look like the cover girl on the magazine be in the “popular “ group had to have the “popular” that was always aired on tv or magazine it’s Media
New sub :-) I love your content. I’m 50. My husband & I have our own “aesthetic” - it’s called 3 boys, 2 dogs, and a love of working on our home and yard (dog hair, muddy foot/hand/paw prints, hay or straw, random tools, etc). The nicest items we own were gifted or handed down from family (and they are items we’d never buy for ourselves). I’m a woman in a smaller home who REQUIRES some semblance of organization. I don’t have social media but see the “restocking” vids on channels like yours. My thoughts on that: if a person truly chooses to live in a mostly white home interior with matching containers in fridge, freezer, pantry, etc. and also has the need to have restock stations in their guest bathrooms, for their purses, or travel bags, I imagine they’re not a lot of fun to live WITH. If I even attempted to pull that, my husband and boys would revolt. And then my OCD/organizational anxiety would be off the chain. To try to have that much control of your environment is a lot of work. And unless you’re living with another adult who gets off on that too, your life is going to be hell. After our first son was born, I realized very quickly that having a perfectly clean organized house was 1) going to be a ton of work, 2) almost impossible, and 3) would take away precious time with my little family if I was running around cleaning up putting away organizing - ugh. I had to give up the idea of having everything “perfect”. And man, that was a life saver. But we have the home that is perfect for US. IDGAD what anyone else thinks. It’s ours (and yes, it sounds like a barn, but it’s actually very nice. We just prefer a lived-in aesthetic). You’re doing just fine. You’re young and seem to have an amazing head on your shoulders, a great family, and most importantly, faith. I think social media has gone too far. It’s ok to get ideas about what would fit into your lifestyle, but I don’t like that people are in depressions and questioning their own worth over these idiots on SM. Life isn’t a race or competition. It’s a journey, and trying to enjoy each phase isn’t always easy, but with the occasional little improvement, you appreciate it so much more. I’m so sorry for the novel!!
Immediately subscribed after you showed your messy surroundings off camera. This video is so refreshing. Every so often I fall into the trap of feeling like I need to “keep up” with what’s currently trending, especially in my home and involving my kids.
aw thanks for subbing! hahaha that is reality majority of the time, anytime im not filming! Don't feel like you have to keep up! Do what is best for you!
I have just discovered your channel today and have subscribed. You are a breath of fresh air! I am 40 and from the UK and feel so sad for the younger generation. Yes, we all struggled with money and student debt etc when younger but we could still go on cheap nights out, cheap holidays etc and make memories. I can remember going on nights out on about £50-£70 and that would last me all night and pay for a cab home. I remember being able to put a fiver in my car and it filling half the tank. My daughter is 10 and I feel sad to think she may struggle to even afford the basics in life. I am teaching her about money and savings as much as I can, but worry the influence of what she sees and online will creep in. There is only so much of my advice on how it isnt real that she will listen to from her mum, especially when she gets into her teens. Keep up the good work! We need more of this online. ❤
girl this has been the most realistic blog I have ever seen. Thank you so much for creating this video it has honestly inspired me to create more normal content :).
For your statistics part: I'm hungarian, and the average yearly payment is around 13500 $, which is only 1125 $ a month. My mom only earns 645 $ a month and thats still more than the bare minimum. Yes, housing, grocery, etc are cheaper but not THAT cheap. We have to save for like 4 years just to go to a one week vacation to a neighbouring country (and we stay in cheap places, not hotels). So ofc I can't afford to live in an aesthetic house, have aesthetic clothes, do aesthetic things, etc etc. And it's just so sad that social media tries to portray that we need to buy xyz things to be happy, that we need this or that aesthetic.
I’ve been in my current WFH job for two years & I have debt from getting my degree 2.5 years ago. I also have an 11 year old son & a 9 year old daughter. We live in a 2 bedroom apartment and nearly all my furniture are hand me downs. My car is an ‘06 & I needed a jump the other day because sometimes it doesn’t start in the cold. I’m almost 33 & I can’t afford a house, not even with my nice stable job I worked so hard for. My “aesthetic” is utter chaos and my walls are flat white. I keep wishing I had a fridge with an ice maker in the door lol Thanks for sharing.
obviously there are many factors that we cannot control regarding our finances, you can't control inflation, the cost of rent and food, only minimum-wage jobs being available, but there are also some things that we can control. i think about all of the people who feel like they need to buy things because the internet tells us we NEED to have these items. we NEED to have the organized fridge with matching containers. we NEED to have the newest gadget. and then in turn we are spending more money just to never feel satisfied that we have enough. it's time that we all become aware of this as a society, and break free. i also love that people are starting to wake up and make/share these types of videos. thank you so much for yours!
I never really write comments. But I really appreciate this video. 🙏🏼 it’s a great reminder to be grateful for what we do have and that social media can be very deceiving.
THANK YOU!! I have begun to feel like we’re the only ones 😂 my younger sister by 3 years is living on her own in a gorgeous house, and I’m living with the in-laws and am wondering what I did wrong 😭
@@susannahfriesenofficialBeen there! It's not easy living with in laws either. During the pandemic, we were forced to move back in with my grandparents after losing our first home 2 weeks before closing. Thanks Covid. 😒 That was HELL. My family became extremely diabolical towards us because they own a lot of property and thought we were closing in on them. We fasted for 10 days to get our own place. Yah Almighty answered! HalleluYah! Now we're a lot less stressed and they leave us alone.
@@realashandaatlarge aw that’s so good! i’m so sorry you had to go through that though! I am PRAYING that this next year is my husband and I’s year. We’ve been touring places to rent just to see (even though we can’t afford it) just to motivate us to work hard because we know what we want. But it’s also all in God’s timing too. Just hope His timing is sooner than later 😭
I don’t know why you would look for normalcy on the Internet. And I think your background in this video looks really beautiful and calming. Totally worth it to take the dresses down from the door.
Thank you for sharing this and being authentic❤ , people nowadays really forget what is normal and it's ok to be normal if u can't match the standard of those social media trends afterall we all are living and giving our best to own life in the situation we got provided and their is no need for comparison if u have u can buy if u don't that's totally fine it doesn't make anybody less worthy . I felt I'm listening to someone whom I know from a long time . Bless u sister ✨ 😊
i never give a like or a comment but your honesty is worth commending. do not be ashamed your transparency speaks louder and better than anybody who tries to pretend to better than others.
Thank you. I thought I was the only one who feels this way. We're all in this together. I pray that all of us will one day live an elevated lifestyle but for now, it's totally okay to live normally. Sending love to everyone.❤❤❤
The start to 2025 that was needed. Refreshing and such a grounding reminder. I didn’t think I was being influenced that much until I tried to start saving. I promised myself I wouldn’t buy anything unless I wrote it down and sat on it for 2-4 weeks. What I realized is that after a couple of days for most things, the strong “desire” to have them went away and I became more comfortable letting the idea of purchasing it go. No shade to influencers making money by pushing over consumerism but it’s empowering to take a step back and really just appreciate what you have. Curate your home slowly over time and be grateful for everything you do have.
That’s such an amazing way to approach spending! I’m so glad it worked for you! I have been the same lately! It feels better to save money than spend it on stuff I don't really need.
Im a new subscriber, you are so authentic and refreshing to watch ! I too am a woman of faith, I love everything you said in this video and I look forward to watching more of your content. I stumbled onto your channel while surfing for more authentic , more every day living! Although I do enjoy watching people’s content that do have everything matching and make it look simple to have everything all together, I do not leave the channel filling depleted or defeated because I am grateful to God to have life. I have a chronic illness and was graced the opportunity to live, therefore I give God all the glory and all the praise and everything I do have I thank Him for! Keep doing what you’re doing because he reaching many people who need to hear this message ! God bless you
I’m glad to have stumbled upon this video. You spoke so well on this topic, and I appreciate your transparency. I have felt, for a long time, that social media has become more harmful than beneficial. I deleted the main forms of social media (Facebook, IG, tiktok) four years ago and haven’t looked back.
Life is much better off social media. ( Excluding youtube and WhatsApp) Maybe not for everyone but at least for myself. Also, you seem like a genuine and good-hearted person :) Sending love from Egypt 💞
We need more content creators who show what I think should be called ‘Me’ aesthetic. This is where people live their lives how they want regardless of trends. The creators I love following show this more normal lifestyle and I love it. Thank you for this video we need more content like this
You're absolutely amazing honestly my whole perception about people in US has changed a lot now. Honestly I'm kinda in the same boat but you literally cleared everything, social media is def very fake you just don't have to be aesthetic you just have to be normal. If you wanna make a place look prettier then just tidy it up, organise maybe put a small decor item that you have at home and there you go your room looks stunning already! Love this video thank you for this 🤍
Hi Susannah! I just recently found your videos and see how much I relate to your situation! My boyfriend and I have been together for 4+ years and we live with his parents while we save for a house. I feel the struggle you’re living with! Having to keep all your bathroom items in your bedroom and carry them with you in a caddy, literally having to use my bed as a desk / vanity for my makeup, hobbies and computer work; always unpacking and repacking it all! We have so much stuff crammed into our small little bedroom and the “tiny home” feeling is getting to be very out lived, it definitely drains my hopes a lot of the time of us owning our own home in the near future. I heard you’re based in Canada but we share very similar circumstances coming from the US. I wanted to say thank you for sharing your situation because I found out from your other videos you’re around my age and I always appreciate when I can relate. I typically don’t comment on UA-cam videos but your story hit close to home, so I just wanted to thank you for your content! Sending love and good wishes your way. Hope you have a happy new year!
Susannah, this video is so great girl!! You touched on so many great topics! Being someone who is very much influenced by social media as well daily I find it so hard somedays not to compare my life to others. It's great to hear someone elses perspective on these things, who can relate on these subjcts and understand how it feels. God bless you girl, and keep up the great work!!💖💖💖
thank you so much!! I’m so happy this resonated with you! I’m also very influenced, but I’m continually trying to trust in the Lord’s timing, and be at peace knowing that I’m right where I’m meant to be 💛 God bless you and thanks again!!
Back in the 1980’s we didn’t have social media BUT we were constantly bombarded with commercials on tv, adds on billboards and adds in magazines. It was the “keep up with the joness’ “ back in the 80’s. Nobody could keep up with that lifestyle either. People have been in debt since credit cards first arrived on the scene. My grandpa back in the 70’s told me to never get a credit card, pay as you go. I’m glad I listened to him
I completely agree with this video! It's something that will hold some people back from starting content creation because of that reason. They are thinking that they have to look like most of those they see instead of being who they are.
THIS! I love watching vlogs/editing vlogs and whatnot, but because of my situation, I just felt like I would never be able to get the "aesthetic" shots and whatnot. Granted my life is not interesting enough to vlog anyways, but I feel that this should not hold someone back from creating IF they want to!
Exactly. That was the reason I deleted a few of my videos soon after starting my channel. I felt that I don't measure up. Working on my sense of self now :)))
@@QuietVlogJulia I completely agree and thats why I just record before I talk myself out of it may it be on my phone or on my camera. My thing is I don't feel like setting up equipment all the time. Sometimes I just want to record where I'm at and that has been comfortable to me so far. So def start back and keep going!
Consumerism and capitalism has become downright ridiculous thanks to social media. Be thankful if you are healthy, have enough money to buy food and something nice (and no I don't mean a designer handbag...I mean a really nice coffee and some cake for example or a book) and do not have to worry about rent etc.
Oh wow, you know just before this video I watched another one of yours and I thought " wow, she must have a nice house, everything looks so nice". This really shows the reality we all live ine. And especially during the christmas time I get super depressed knowing all pictures are just so pretty, while I spend mine with my parents in our grandparents house which is just.. the picture of not aesthetic home. The comparison can really destroy our mental health.
I think a lot of those aesthetic accounts are industry plants, they have the same makeup/skincare/stanley mugs products (color and everything), the same camera angles, even the same kitchen appliances (the smeg toaster and smeg kettle), their accounts are pushed by the algorithm in every platform. There's a lot of UCG.
I agree. I actually already own a variation of most things I see that spark interest. Clothes, makeup, etc. I do like watching different things about putting things together differently and organization but what I need is to put it in action. I don’t care about what anyone does, I have always usually already been doing things that are “on trend” and if not, oh well. I enjoy timeless, things that stand through time as it is. My lifestyle is working a lot and going home. I have a lot of things I’m working through personally and that is what’s important to me. Being private, more productive and getting to a better place all together. I don’t go on trips, have fancy cars, etc but it never bothered to me before and it doesn’t now. The very most important thing is getting myself better, what other people are doing is none of my concern.
At a young age, my parents instilled in us not to measure our happiness by comparing ourselves to other people. I remember growing up in the 70s, all my classmates had the tin lunchboxes that had the Disney characters, etc. and even though we could afford it, my mother told me that not only was my simple hand me down lunch bag just as good but that I should be thankful that I even have food to bring to school, and that I was even in school to begin with! We lived in the Philippines and not everyone can afford to go to school. THAT was a life lesson I remember to this day. We didn’t have social media back then but we had TV, magazines, and all those ads depicting a perfect life/lifestyle. Just to add perspective - it’s not just social media. It’s actually continuing to look outside of ourselves for validation that will always make us feel inadequate. We have to realize that our worth and happiness come from within and the values that give us peace of mind: Did we help someone? Are we living life with integrity and honesty? Are we prioritizing our obligations before things that are irrelevant? If we do, then it’s easier to stay true to ourselves and live by our means and not get negatively affected by marketing and influencers. There’s nothing wrong with “pretty” things but it’s when we let it take over our consciousness and not feel grateful for what we actually have but only focus on what we don’t have that puts us in a bad space. ❤
Overconsumption content literally irritates me. It’s like “watch me reset for _____.” Spooky season stocking, Christmas decor shopping, “restock my ____.” Using all these random unnecessary items and buying all these unnecessary plastic bins that will end up in landfills in 10 years. People pushing this agenda that your house can’t be “aesthetic” if you don’t have all that random junk. And I have never seen someone say “watch me stock my fridge with HEALTHY, AFFORDABLE groceries”. It’s all just overconsumption and fake self care. Like why do you need 20 body washes?!? Constantly buying expensive perfumes. It’s all just ridiculous. People could be saving thousands of dollars and creating generational wealth but they want to be like whoever is buying 9 random things from Amazon that someone apparently couldn’t live without.
I am literally planning to film a video about this tomorrow. I feel sick watching these videos that promote spending upwards of like $350 just to do these videos. Honestly probably even more than that. I have an album on my phone called "absurdity" where I save videos like this because that is what it is. Absurdity.
My spendings have decreased by 80% after I started seeing social media for what they are. I no longer saw happiness in things I bought. They disgusted me later and my home felt no longer safe for me. I sold and am selling a lot of stuff and donated a lot. I feel happier and better :)
i’ve been a minimalist for more than 10 years, and i’m so glad that has made me immune to this overconsumption foolishness. these influencer idiots almost make me sad… mostly i just laugh at them.
If you watch this video, thank you so much! I have a prayer request for anyone watching. Please pray for financial breakthrough for Nate and I. We had some unexpected things come up.

I think they were saying to the lady that posted this, to stay off social media.

LOL man. Styling a pantry?? Like sure okay, if you have the means then do whatever, but I think going on and on about it, is absurd

I too am so dang grateful!
this is such a good outlook! most times we need to live through it, to realize it doesn't provide us with happiness
exactly! I just commented the same phrase.
When she showed her pile, I casually looked at mine on top of the mini fridge in my room. 🤭
@@realashandaatlarge hahaha minifridges, night tables and the top of dressers make the best places to pile things up😂
@@susannahfriesenofficialyes!! Thank you for that, I love to see more reality 🩷
When you were showing your pantry and fridge it’s the first time I’ve realized how the original influencers were people who published cook books and home guides for how to manage a house and family, actual helpful advice to make people’s lives better. Now instead of helping, lifestyle/home/cooking influencers are pushing buying things with content that makes people feel worse instead of knowing more.
aw that’s so sad… I’m sorry!

Hahaha yes me too 😂
Lucky you! It happened for me when I turned 40... just substiute social media with my family's and social expectations.
God bless.
You're right! Those things are not needs, but everyone treats them as if they are.
Praise God for providing for you!
You're so welcome!
I'm wishing you beautiful things in life!
Go back to Poland
The internet has destroyed my mental and financial health for the very same reasons you mentioned. Thanks for speaking the truth in this video!
you're so welcome, but I am sorry that it happened to you.
I don't have social media and I am not that old. You know what, I am a happy human being!
im so glad!!
I deleted all my social apps 3 months ago! (Except university of UA-cam lol)
I feel so much better.
I’ve had 2 people notice 😂
Life is meant to be lived. So go LIVE it!
I agree. I think it's refreshing that you're living your life authentically!
WOW, this video needs to go viral. Someone told my husband the other day "I am not aesthetic enough" and he replied to her, "She's a normal entertainment reporter, she's not trying to be someone that isn't. CRAZY times we live in.
Thank you! Wow, thats awful! Crazy indeed.
The bravery of being this honest is commendable 👌
thank you
The 'bravery of being honest' was once a thing but influencers drove that out of people's lives.
So True..
People Nowadays Are So Obsessed over Social Media and Aesthetics 🤷♀️
yup!!
I just subscribed to both of your channels. I welcome normalcy.
I just started a page with homemaking, cooking, cleaning tips, recipes. And was quickly discouraged when I see the insane amount of PERFECT houses, perfect angles , lighting, food.. I just don’t know if I should even continue my content.
yes continue!!!!! do not stop!!
A LOT of people prefer that, believe it or not. You'll hear a lot of thanks for being real. I promise you that.
Do continue!
When i worked fulltime i was carelessly spending money left and right thinking its ok its just $100, never again
same! you should eat though! I don't like that you're starving yourself :(
Praying for you and your husband! Your time will come!

Feeling behind in life when looking at social media is a major one.
The comparisons to we make against other people is soooo destructive
That is absolutely right!!
The realest video I’ve watched on UA-cam. Thank you
you are welcome!
Normality is so relaxing and honestly...refreshing. Thank you!
Aw thank you!
i'm less than a minute in, and i grew up in the 90's and there were definitely boxes we had to fit in. cliques were the old anesthetics. your hobbies usually were the same as your group of friends. and if you stuck out or had your own interests, you were heavily bullied by your peers.
Bullying always sucks but at least cliques were based on how you acted irl and not carefully constructed online personas.
@@Iquey THIS!
It's all just noise really!
The first natural and normal girl I have seen on social media in a while. Thank you for being real.
wow thank you so much😭
Wow. So vulnerable. Thank. You touched a lot of lives with these real words
thank you so much!
💛
This!
I really appreciate you making this video! Social media can cloud our minds into thinking we don't have enough when the little things in life alone are blessings
@@kitten0331 definitely!!
The first video of yours that has popped up on my feed and it is one of the best videos I have ever watched on my, nearly a decade, being on the internet. I definitely see myself coming back to this video from time to time. I am actually creating a new playlist rn titled "Reminder", just to add this video to it.
Wow that is so awesome!! Thank you so much for watching.
Thank you! I am an old lady so I already know these things from living a full life. You are educating people younger than me for whom social media matters. We really need you!
Thank you so much for your honesty and realness! Thank you for helping many of us feel less alone.
thank YOU for your comment! I'm so glad I could help you feel less alone!
appreciate the realness and transparency about the small messes in your space. seriously. makes me feel more normal and less... terrible. i literally felt my body relax just seeing you show those things. ty for sharing.
Appreciate your video.
thank you so much!
Thank you.
I’m getting back into content creation, close to getting monetized. But this is such a great reminder. I am sooo blessed and I really needed to hear this. Thank you
You got this!!!
Susanna,
Thank you for being so brutally honest!
Yeah you’re right! I just felt it more prominently since social media has become larger! :)
I’m so glad that you’re feeling more at ease! It’s all about perspective!
I agree. She's so real & so much herself. I really like that.
New sub :-)
I love your content.
Every so often I fall into the trap of feeling like I need to “keep up” with what’s currently trending, especially in my home and involving my kids.
aw thanks for subbing! hahaha that is reality majority of the time, anytime im not filming!

aw thank you so much!!
This should be necessary for everyone to hear
thank you so much.
girl this has been the most realistic blog I have ever seen. Thank you so much for creating this video it has honestly inspired me to create more normal content :).
aw thank you so much!!
And it's just so sad that social media tries to portray that we need to buy xyz things to be happy, that we need this or that aesthetic.
oh wow! thats horrible! I’m so sorry.
Just remember that happiness doesn’t come from marital items! It’s hard sometimes, but it’s true :)
I keep wishing I had a fridge with an ice maker in the door lol
Thanks for sharing.
💯 Thanks for this reminder to be grateful for MY life and what I have and to focus on MY reality..comparison is the thief of joy.
no problem!! I have to remind myself alot, but gratitude is SO important.

obviously there are many factors that we cannot control regarding our finances, you can't control inflation, the cost of rent and food, only minimum-wage jobs being available, but there are also some things that we can control. i think about all of the people who feel like they need to buy things because the internet tells us we NEED to have these items. we NEED to have the organized fridge with matching containers. we NEED to have the newest gadget. and then in turn we are spending more money just to never feel satisfied that we have enough. it's time that we all become aware of this as a society, and break free. i also love that people are starting to wake up and make/share these types of videos. thank you so much for yours!
We have a saying that says: You can only cover yourself as much as the blanket is big. And I stick to this for my entire life.

You're absolutely amazing honestly my whole perception about people in US has changed a lot now. Honestly I'm kinda in the same boat but you literally cleared everything, social media is def very fake you just don't have to be aesthetic you just have to be normal.
I’m glad I listened to him
he sounds like a smart gpa! mine was also smart like that. miss him everyday.
@@QuietVlogJulia aw im so glad! you dont need to measure up to anyone else! be uniquely YOU!

Consumerism and capitalism has become downright ridiculous thanks to social media. Be thankful if you are healthy, have enough money to buy food and something nice (and no I don't mean a designer handbag...I mean a really nice coffee and some cake for example or a book) and do not have to worry about rent etc.
a nice coffee can truly make the day!
There's a lot of UCG.
trueeeee! I have a stanley but I got it as a present for my birthday, does that count? LOL
Thank you so much. This almost moved me to tears. Sometimes I don't realize just how much I've let it get to me. This was a breath of fresh air.
I AM GRATEFUL FOR YOU.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU!!!
God bless you!
Very nice video Susannah! God bless you and everyone reading this🩵
Thank you! God bless!!
Absolutely! Love this comment.
Yes, bring back normal content again (was it ever normal? probably not). It's so easy to get caught up in what everyone else seems to have!
probably not but its true!
Not sure that UA-cam is in favour of a "normal" content. Just my impression from what I see becomes popular and got recommended by YT
