I relate to you so much, almost a year without social media and now it feels crazy that during vacations and cool events i was sooo obsessed with taking the "perfect" pics to just show off on Instagram... Now i realise im never going back to use those platforms that are just stealing my free time...
"i feel like nowadays people don't even really know who they are because they are so distracted. they know what they watch, they know what they eat, they know what they like, they know what they don't like. but they don't know what their real values are or what they even really need. they think they are what they consume. but if everything were taken away from them, they wouldn't really have a sense of identity." close enough welcome back sylvia plath
I only can access social media once a day, for about 15min, (it’s physically locked somewhere) and it changed my life. I sometimes don’t go for 3days and realize I didn’t miss anything. I don’t reach out for my for phone every 2minutes anymore. I read books or do stuff instead. Slowly weening off social media. So glad to be freeing myself from it! 🎉
Ty for this! I unfortunately fell hard into tiktok, i don't even want to see what my screen time is. I just spent so much of my vacation not even being present and enjoying. I just scrolled for hours. I dont have a problem with ig or youtube but wow I've wasted so much time on tiktok. Im going to set a 20 minute time on it & if that doesn't work then I'll delete it. Its sad to think about how many hours a day we spend on our phones instead of seeing family, friends, playing with pets, doing anything else pretty much
Its still so hard that when i have a cute picture and i cant show it anywhere 😫 😅 i know its a validation i dont need. I don't even look at the likes that much i just feel like its a waste of the photo then 😂 i don't know why i feel like that tho... i know people that care or are interested about what im doing where im going. So i feel like i have a good intention of using it tho... but i also agree with all of your points... especially with the vacation one 😅 Also i feel like if i dont use SM at all i would miss out on tour dates of my favorite artists or i cant discover new music and artist's so easily. Also i really like a few celebrities and influences and find some things interesting that they do.. its hard its really an on off thing 😂
Social media is good and bad. I use facebook because my family can see my pictures and they can update my life and i dont have to send the picture one by one to all of them. And we use messenger to contact each other . UA-cam is another thing that is useful ,it teaches you how to do things on your own . Some people use social media too much and they can’t even talk to their family. No more talking inside the house ,they are invisible which is bad. 😔
I only have UA-cam but I'm plaining on taking a break from it for the rest of the summer which is super exciting because the last time I went on a UA-cam hiatus was for a month and I absolutely loved it so this time I'm making it a little bit longer.😊 Sidenote:I highly recommend any book or podcast by Cal Newport he's the reason why I started practicing Digital Minimalism 2 years ago.
How did you do it? I deleted a lot of social media but i still go on reddit and youtube a lot, it's like i replaced all those apps with just those 2 apps
@violentbob What I do is remove the App from my phone and then ignore it for a week it's kinda hard at first but once you start getting use doing that you can make the next break even longer I always make a log on how it's going and instead of checking UA-cam I would ether read or listen to a podcast.
Hey Devan, really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with Best Quality Editing in your videos better than your Editor with good pricing and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail which will help your videos to reach to a wider audience ? Pls let me know what do you think ?
social media is just so dumb and it’s annoying. People look at your stories but don’t like ur posts. it’s just about stalking people. people just compare each other and it’s annoying.
this! I used it out of loneliness or seeking validation, but I've been thinking a lot lately about how privacy is sacred. There are people who have followed me and watched my stories and we have not spoken since high school! Girl..I graduated in 2000! So imagine people following your life for almost 25 yrs and never even connecting or meeting up one-on-one. Watching each other's kids grow up and never meeting them. It's actually really crazy! Do I need to know that a distant cousin I met ONCE has recently taken up baking? No! Does the guy who lived above me from 2009-'11 need to see what I do on the weekends? What about that random person I met once on vacation who has now followed me for 3 yrs? 😆 It's so ridiculous when I think about it, and yet we've all been spending HOURS giving a peek into our lives with these people. Smh
Girl this!! Like one way I see it is, if I saw these people in person would I even say hi, or would they even acknowledge me? Of course not .... So why are we sharing all these personal moments with people who don't give a shit about us 😂
Beautiful video and perspective! I just deleted my IG 30 min ago and I already feel like 7% less stressed about “who’s looking at my story” or “did the girl I like view it?” “Does she still have me on “close friends”. I feel more free im gonna play some basketball my original entertainment 😌 thanks again!! Mental health is real and matters. As a guy it feels good to express myself when others do not.
I'm sure it's just UA-cam recommending me these based on my algorithm but I love that more and more people are choosing peace and real life interactions over social media. Hopefully this continues for years to come 🙏🏾
I just deleted all social media today , because i found out that my teenage time is all wasted all my time is just so short i can’t feel how my day passes and all my focus is not available anymore neither my energy! I’ve always felt a toxicity from these platforms and felt bad about the moments i haven’t enjoyed with my family.
I just deleted my instagram. Stopped your video and went straight to insta to fully delete my account. Feel anxious. In a couple if days im leaving my work for another place so i wont have a work account. Then i’ll delete an app itself. I planned it for a while, and now, i think, its time to live MY life
I’m a new subscriber here. I just stumbled on your page. I’m in my mid-30s. I actually deleted my socials-except for this, obviously-around the time the pandemic began, and I haven’t been back on since. I won’t be going back on either. I’ve actually replaced social media with reading and watching podcasts. Boredom will set in, but finding your own ways to deal with said boredom is key. Please keep up the great work on this channel!
It’s been almost 4y without any social media and I could NEVER imagine myself getting any of them back. Just thinking about it gives me anxiety. Social media are not black or white, it depends on what you are doing with them and how you let them affect your time and life. For me, the balance weighted more on the negative side of social media so I’m better wayyyy without it. The only pb now is that I’m using way too much UA-cam 😂
My child wants social media and is in the 7th grade, but we’re holding it off for as long as possible. I see how social media slowly shapes my view of the world and changes my opinions. It also persuades me to want or buy things. It robs me of so much time. If this is what it does to a grown woman, what can it do to a child?
Would love to hear people’s thoughts on this - what triggers me most about Instagram (I never had X or TikTok) and the thing that triggers me most is IG stories, checking who watched my stories, and just overall being too concerned about other people’s lives. I’ve found however I do love randomly posting and it’s almost like i do best in the app when I’m just sharing to share and don’t look at the likes/comments etc. is it possible to even share online without giving in to the void? 😅
I feel like this is so true especially when i start thinking about the "lazy girl era" because most of us are chronically online scrolling for hours every day 😭
So true ! Amazing progress. I'm glad I made this decision. I got rid of it on September 1st, and it was the best thing ever. I'm only 11 days in and it is amazing so far. I just hope it gets better.
hearing that you don't take as many photos anymore was so validating for me. I always have had the perspective of "I need to take photos to document my life properly". Thank you because I can see that I my not taking photos habit is not a bad thing.
according to jaron lanier, you should turn your search history and recommendations off on both google and youtube to stay safe from the manipulative algorithms & its highly recommended by me too
The photo dumps on Facebook- I still do this! I dont have that many contacts on there but I enjoy posting all my pictures from all my trips and put it into albums. Barely any editing or altering, just pure raw pics!
ciao! I'm your Like n. 666 😈 I relate to everything you said, I'm trying to abandon social media completely but I find it difficult because I'm an illustrator and I feel “I have to be present” on these platforms. The use of fb is almost zero but I keep it because my grandparents follow me and every now and then I make stories for them or look for events, while I find ig a condemnation, I would like to remove it completely but I feel that I wouldn't know many creative realities that I discover by zapping more than scrolling. Send help
Hey thank you so much for your video it literally made me tear up a little. I haven’t noticed since watching this video now that I was so dependent with social media, and thinking my instagram profile presents my whole life. I actually feel like now is the time to think about reorganizing my life with taking a step away from social media. I know some people say I’m dramatic because social media is not forced to use or install, but don’t we all feel like every thing we can do is all in that single app? now I don’t want to blame myself for wasting my time on these apps and I hope nobody else does it too, but I feel proud I was able to recognize what I was dealing with and I think that’s so important. Again thank you so much you literally changed my life, I mean “literally”
Good for you! I came off Facebook and Twitter and don’t really miss it. Never did TikTok. I still have instagram and some of the smaller ones. Great to have a life again ❤
What do you expect from youtube? I have seen more fake gurus on youtube than on Instagram. On Instagram I follow other music producers and family, friends, no envy about their life.

I agree so much about finding your own style more when off socials! I feel like no one is authentic anymore and just following trends
The pictures of your grandma were sooo cute ☺️ but yess social media used to be silly goofy times and now it feels scary

I agree with you, I’m in my mid 20’s and I really am so grateful our generation didn’t grow up with social media
Thank you for sharing and expressing. Grateful that your channel popped up to this video.

Omg when you said social media would make my vacation stressful, I felt that!!😭😭🤍
''we are not meant to be staring at our screens all day and looking at what thousands of other people are doing.'' my thoughts exactly!
Deleting ig and tiktok was the best choice I ever made. I did lose contact with all my friends but in the end my peace is what matters most.
Those friends are not friends if they only talk to you because of those apps.
I quit social media in 2020. Too much drama. Life is as full and fun as you make it.
Life is so much more peaceful without it :)

It's crazy how similar our life is
