@@dano9421 Back in the mid 1960's, I bought two Ruger .22 caliber handguns. One was the Ruger Single Six with fixed sights, which was a blued version of the Ruger Wrangler but with what looks like a smaller diameter barrel. The other one was the Ruger Super Single Six which sported the adjustable sights like the current Single Six. I kept the Single Six and gave my brother the Super Single Six for Christmas that year.
I need a good .22 LR hand gun. I may be living in the dog house for a while too Thomas Edison.

I've been collecting 22 cal ruger hand guns for many many years. I love all of mine. The single nine and ten are both very very accurate. BTW if you want to put a mirror finish on yours like i did mine, use some "Mothers" aluminum and mag wheel polish. I've used it on many many different stainless firearms and it always does a great job. You also mentioned the new Wrangler the one thing that I found that helps the Wrangler is the fact that Ruger put a free spin paul in it. That means that you can spine the cylinder both ways for loading and unloading. Most of us who shoot cowboy action put a free spin paul into our Ruger Vaqueros and Black Hawks to make reloading on the clock much quicker and quite easy as well.

I'm sure the Single 6 to 10 series are quality pistols because RUGER, but I prefer a double Action, like the H&R Model 929 nine shot .22LR revolver. I bought mine new in 1978 with a new Hunter holster for 79 bucks. I wore it on my hip for 20+ years and like you, Plinkster, I practiced a lot with it. I used to shoot rabbits on the run out to 75 yards while working ground with my old John Deere 3010 tractor, usually in one or two shots. I could shoot from the hip and hit anything I wanted at 25 yards. A few years back, while hunting pheasant, a rabbit popped out from some grassy cover and a nephew asked if I thought I could hit it. I brought my 929 up to my hip, shot, and the rabbit fell over dead. For several years after that, anytime he was here hunting he would tell them about shooting the rabbit. I'm 70 now and I'm still pretty salty with the old 929. I love that gun and even though I have a lot of guns, it's still my favorite. Number two would be my Ruger Mark IV Competition Stainless. Number three would be a toss-up between my Ruger Charger Takedown or one of my Ruger SR1911SSs. And I can point shoot those 1911s just as good as my old 929. The only way my 929 could be better is if it was satin stainless, but back then you didn't see many stainless pistols.
Take care and keep your barrel clean. Bo Leggs.

They are very well machined, but assembled by people that do not know how to use a screwdriver. A phone call to Ruger has never failed to get undamaged screws right away, they even replaced a set of grips that were scratched in the area near the grip screw.
I bought a Boyd's stock for my Ruger American rimfire and called Ruger to purchase the two metal parts that need to go in the stock. When I asked them how much they were going to charge me, they said that they would not. I gave them the opportunity to change their mind by telling them that the stock I had was the red, white and blue "Old Glory" model, but I also planned to get a brown stock. They didn't care, they sent me two each of the two metal parts needed, and didn't charge me a cent. Ruger is obviously really big on customer relations.

I agree with you. My Grandpa had a Colt Buntline Scout 9.5 inch barrel from I think 1953 or 1956 that was his Dad's that he used to teach me how to shoot. We didn't shoot it that much because of how old the gun was. So I got online and found that Ruger made the Single Six with a 9.5 inch barrel. It looks just like the Colt, only with better sights. We then went to our local gun dealer and ordered one. It is an amazing firearm and is what started my love for Ruger and shooting.

I do like the Ruger Single Six. My first handgun was a Single Six .22 Mag. when I was 18 back in 1970. Ruger is a very reputable company I must add. I read about a safety update in 1983 so I mailed my gun from Saskatchewan to Connecticut to the Ruger factory where they did the update. Surprise of all surprises, they also sent me a new .22 LR cylinder. Now I had both. It was an excellent gun. Fun to shoot but only had the non adjustable sights for fast draw. Still shot very accurate though.

I cant believe I was the last one to comment a year ago. I have been shooting my Single 10 for a year now and It's my favorite .22. It's a work of art no doubt. I have found that the forcing cone to cylinder gap is very tight and after many rounds it does need to be cleaned with a brush. The Tuff Quick ammo strips do assist in loading faster. Nice revolver. I bought a used Ruger KNR-5 in 2002 for $225. It only had the mag cylinder so I sent it to Ruger and total cost for adding an LR cylinder and shipping one way (they shipped it back free) was $80. Not bad for $305 final cost. My favorite rimfire revolver. It's not some bogus toy but a real "hefty" gun. Trigger pull is light and the 5.5" barrel and adjustable target sights are quite accurate with LR and magnum ammo alike. Although the Single Ten does hold a few more rounds I prefer the advantage of swopping cylinders between LR and magnum ammo for a more versatile gun. Have a variety of single actions. This one, my example has the end of the hammer pin proud of the side of the frame with a ring of spared polishing around it, and the flat areas of the front of the frame a bit sluffed off. Trigger pull was a bit gritty. It is accurate, and a Wolf kit and some stoning helped greatly.
Nice gun, but imho vintage Rugers had better fit and finish, less creep. I would buy one again, but I’d like to see better finish work, trigger pull, and a free spin paul.

I have fired and still do the Ruger single action revolvers as i own a fine single six .. I started in 1963 and have been hooked ever since ..
Your grip is fine from what i see, two fingers is fine and it's all you need , yes center fire too , it's not your hand size it's the famous single action grip design ..
Don't worry you won't drop it with only two a finger grip ...
The grip frame is that way on XR3 and XR RED grip frame , one will always have their little pinky under the grip bottom ..
In my .357 and .44 mag that is a plus having your pinky under the grip frame as far as recoil goes and my .44 does have recoil ..
Think of it this way , if you jammed all your fingers into the grip your knuckle is going to eat that recoil big time from the trigger guard and you won't like it.. ..
My favorite revolver , double or single action ? my choice is single action . Once a shooter learns how to master one there is nothing like them ..There is a trick to unloading one , it can be done in 2-3 seconds nothing do it your thumb controls the cylinder rotation , your index finger controls controls the ejection rod..click click click there were 6 just like that ..

I wanted a SA .22 convertible revolver. I looked at the Ruger and the price was oddly high for a Ruger. I ended up with TWO 9-shot convertible HA Rough Riders for about HALF the price of a convertible Ruger. They aren't as good as the Ruger, but an outstanding value.

My favorite .22LR handgun is my Super Single Six (stainless 6-1/2”). It’s the convertible. No telling how many thousand rounds have gone down the barrel, and a few hundred magnums. 1979 is its born on date. The only upgrade....as I got into my 50s I put Wilson Combat springs in it. I also have an MK1, as well as a MKIII 22/45. Both are great shooters but I always go back to the Super Single Six.

I have 3 Single Six Convertibles and 3 granddaughters you can probably see how that's going to end up. But back to the guns as I said all 3 are convertibles, #1 is a 5.5" blued with fixed sights, #2 is a 6.5" SS with adjustable sights and #3 is a 9.5 " blued with adjustable sights. All of them can shoot better than I can. I've only used .22LRs at this time. I also have Ruger single actions in 357/9mm, 30 Carbine and 41 magnum along with a SS model 77 in 30/06 and a Mk1 bull barrel. I think it's safe to say I like Rugers.

I do not own a Ruger single 6 single 10 or any Ruger single action revolver. What I do own though is an FIE Texas Ranger four and three-quarter inch barrel 22 single action revolver and just recently bought the Heritage Rough Rider six and a half inch 22 single action revolver.
I have had FIE for 30 years and only had one problem out of it. After 30 years of reliable shooting the spring that advanced the cylinder broke took me a couple of days to get it fixed at a gunsmith shop and it has operated reliably ever since.
I just recently purchased a Heritage Rough Rider and have only had the opportunity to put one 50 round box through it. But so far the Heritage is just as smooth in action as my FIE. I love single action shooting in 22.

What I like about the Single Six vs the Ten is the interchangeable WMR cylinder. Especially in the 6.5" barrel I had (I sold my Single Six years ago, and have been kicking myself for it ever since. I'm about to buy another which, if it shoots as well as my old one, I will never sell) it still has a significant power advantage over the 22LR. Of course this really only matters for small game hunting, or maybe longer range target shooting.

I always thought the Bearcat would be the ideal trail gun with adjustable sights, then, voila! Lipsey's comes up with ASs on a stainless Bearcat, so of course I got one. (Bought my first one in 1969 at the liquor store in downtown Placerville, Old Hangtown). Carried a Colt New Frontier Buntline everywhere for 40+ years. Then a S6 in .32H&R for a brief couple of years...
THEN they hit me with three Single Sevens in .327 (four, counting the Ranger Point Precision-modified Marlin 1894CB), and I think that, around here and the way things are, it's the Better Trail Gun now. Little more oomph if needed. For nearly 50 years I never felt under-gunned with a single action, five shout .22, and still wouldn't, but the .327 is my EDC around the ranch here where LE response is two hours at best and zombies are wandering out of the cities and into the deserts and mountains. Actually lighter than a Single Six, as it has more and bigger holes, the S7 carries like a .22, shoots like a .38, and hits like a .357.

I have a single six I bought in 1983 or so, it is a fine little plinking gun, and the 22 Magnum in it makes a decent varmint gun. I looked on Bud's Gun Shop and it is NOT clear to me if the TEN is CONVERTABLE to 22 MAG, it seemed to be EITHER OR. If I could ONLY GET ONE, I would take the 22 LR. The Single NINE is definetly convertable to 22 MAG.
But one thing bother's me, I bought a Smith and Wesson Model 617 with a 4 inch barrel from Bud's last year for UNDER $700, just barely under $700, and it is of course DOUBLE ACTION. It is my "practice gun" I have run 20,000 rounds through it since last Spring. I love THAT S&W 617!!! It has the weight and the feel of my 686 + S&W. But I loved my Single 6 that is nearly 37 years OLD. I polished it up like you said years ago, it looks BRAND NEW and I have plinked a lot with it. Really a GREAT recreational firearm it is.
The only thing is, like I said, I am glad I have my Single Six, but being able to buy a S&W 617 TEN shooter that is DOUBLE ACTION is a heart breaker of a decision if you don't already own one or the other. It is just over $100 bucks difference between the Single Ten and the S&W 617!!! Makes the decision hard!! Of course, it was tough paying almost $700 for a 22 LR S&W that I COULD have bought a S&W 357 Mag for just almost the exact same money. But it is a GREAT PRACTICE GUN for me. I can shoot up a Brick of 22 LR in about two hours, with the 617. I can get in a LOT of practice with it since the 22 LR came down in price. I can shoot up a WHOLE CASE of 5,000 rounds pretty quickly with the 617.
But that TEN SHOOTER there would be fun to have. They are so good for somebody just starting shooting. They don't WASTE the ammo with a SINGLE ACTION. To ME iit is MUCH BETTER LOOKING than that Wrangler cowboy gun. I don't like the looks as much as the Single 6, 9, 10 etc. BB

I just won a ruger single 6 with both barrels in stainless for $599, in top condition. Today I saw one and only one new, at buffs for $749. I think I landed a sweet deal. I was nervous that I it wasn't the right choice until I saw this video. I recently picked up a colt trooper iii from 1981 in satin nickel in very good condition for $575. It's a very nice revolver that's a good shooter and is probably actually worth $1,400 -$1,500. It was from a gun store near me and such a find, I was thinking about the new frontier in 22, but stumbled on the ruger single six. I now believe I made the right choice.

Why do you never count your shots and snap rimfires?
You are correct about the grip length. That is why my .22 Ruger SA is the Bisley model. I do have a couple of New Model Blackhawks, and I am going to fit brass grip frames I bought years ago for the Super Blackhawk. Another possible solution would be aftermarket grips that extend down beneath the grip frame. The solution for Italian copies of the 1873 SAA is the trigger guard, backstrap and grips for the 1860 Army, which is longer. The 1851 Navy, the 1861 Navy and the 1873 SAA all come with the shorter grip, but they are interchangeable.
