I always figured after the end of Justice League Unlimited they shut down the orbiting Watchtower and started using the Metro Tower AS the "Watchtower" which is why it was called that in Batman Beyond. It fit the clear intent to stay "closer to Earth" that the JLU seemed to be aiming for. So why does Bruce in Epilogue call it the Metro Tower? Because he's OLD. He still thinks of it by the older name, just like how people refer to the Sears Tower or the Pan Am Building even though the names have changed.

So glad I could watch this video now (just bought the movie at Walmart today). I actually thought of a really neat reason that Superman (spoiler alert for those who haven't seen the movie yet) could fly up and reach the sun while being unable to do so in the episode Eclipsed. In the JLU finale (spoiler alert again for those who haven't seen that, please ignore this comment if that's the case) he seemed to be in a much greater power level than ever in his battle with Darkseid. He stated that he often felt like he would crush a world that felt like cardboard, but maybe that fight with Darkseid (So hope I didn't ruin it for anyone, sorry if I did) was a kind of liberation. Maybe at this point he had much greater confidence and control, not to mention everything else he'd gone through in JLU as a whole (totally avoiding any other spoiler moments, you get the general idea I assume). Simply put, his character grew in many ways after JLU was done. So, maybe that's why he could fly faster. Just a theory, no big deal, I paused the video so I wouldn't forget to mention it in the comics. Back to the video now!!!

If JLU ever comes back I'd love if they did either a mini series or a movie like this one about Parallax. Except they trim all the unnecessary fat like Zero Hour... Just focus on Jon Stewart or even Jessica Cruz having to fight to a Hal Jordan that seemingly fell from grace before the continuity of the show and just say he was active long before the formation of the Justice League in the DCAU so they can sort of say Hal was the GL of the silver age and that's why nobody remembers him.
Last year I did a script outline of a Parallax-style story where the Guardians (aware of the emergence of Parallax in other realities) omitted Hal from the GLC in the DCAU to prevent such a situation... except that they miscalculated and it emerges using Kyle as a host. John co-operates with Sinestro to help contain Parallax and is 'rewarded' by being ejected from GLC and subsequently replaced by Gardner. Clinton Fraser well she says she shifts on a molecular level, which is how she was able to give him a transfusion, so maybe since she was green at the time she was a green martian on a molecular level (besides blood type) which turned him green. that’s all i can think of besides “that’s just what the writers want”.
To those who STILL think Fatal Five isn’t canon, please remember the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Mantra: “It’s just a show; I should really just relax”
You should do a "Batman: The Killing Joke" will it canon video. Similar visual design as the DCAU, three voice actors reprising their roles from the DCAU, Bruce Timm involvement, and the whole Bruce/Barbara relationship. I mean that last point alone would drive DCAU fans nuts.
The Guy who is so in charge of the DCAU that many people refer to it WITH HIS NAME (The Timverse), says that this movie he worked on is apart of it and people question it? What!?
Word of God doesn't work when it's a Pantheon and you ultimately don't have the final say on matters but a third party, Warner Bros, does. It also doesn't work when your word directly contradicts what we see on the page.
@@VunderGuy Well, dose any other member of the Pantheon contradict what he said? Or Warner Bros for that matter? If it wasn't true, then clearly it must have been contradicted by someone eventually since he said it to a live audience on stage.
You brought up the episode of Superman when Kyle Rayner became Green Lantern, that same episode showed that he'll Jordan exists in that universe. There was a scene that took place in an airfield and there was a close up of the side of one of the planes that said Colonel Hal Jordan. So I figure along with Jessica getting her ring Hal and Guy also got their rings after the show went off the air.
Good show. In my humble opinion, we as fans should stop worrying about if its cannon or not but just enjoy the well written story for what it is and be thankful our childhood heroes are still being brought to us to share with our kids and the younger generation.
I hope so! I mean it would explain where Hal and Guy were when the Imperium and his goo-guys were attacking earth, Hal and Guy were the first two GLs of earth and in GLTAS (the series finale I believe) Guy mentions earth having a new Green Lantern. EDIT: So I forgot there was a two part episode called "Blackest Night", y'know with those manhunter dudes. XD I think when John and Bats went time travelling they retconned the manhunters from Blackest Night. But that's just a theory. :D
But the transition from 3D to 2D is such a drastic change! Oh, right, he explained redesigns. But Star Sapphire Carol Ferris was a hero in Green Lantern TAS and a villain in Justice League. Can you explain her drastic change in characterization?
@@SeanWheeler100 If I remember correctly there isn't anything confirming (or denying) that the Star Sapphire we see in JL and JLU is Carol, for all we know it could be some soccer mom.
Old Bruce could have just been doing that thing my parents do. Referring to buildings as what they remember them being called for a long time. It could have previously been the metro tower and Bruce just instinctively calls it such, despite a name change.
In my home of Quezon City, is a section of Quezon Avenue called "Delta" because of the old Delta theatre/Dela Marced building. It was demolished just recently and a new building will take place(don't know when yet), but I imagine a lot of people including my generation and my father's, will still be calling it Delta.
Ok personal canon: Before every interview, the writers flip a coin to decide whether or not the subject is canonical to the DCAU. This way, they can watch the chaos unfold, and enjoy seeing the internet nerds go through the same pain the writers do EVERY FUCKING TIME YOU ASK THIS SHIT.
My theory about Hal Jordan is that at some point he was a Green Lantern, but ultimately retired sometime before Batman the Animated Series or Superman the Animated Series Volume 1.
Is it weird that I want a prequel movie about Dick’s time as Robin while it flashes back and forth between the past and his present as Nightwing and end with him meeting the League and denying membership because he needs to be his own man. But leaving it open to him joining later.
My theory is the Kilowog in the movie is actually from the GL TAS universe and the DCAU Kilowog has since died, along with DCAU Jonathan Kent apparently. So GLTAS Kilowog came over to DCAU Earth to replace DCAU Kilowog
I always liked to think Superman said he couldn't fly that fast so nobody would expect him too. I get he's OP and all, but going that fast has to be exhausting, and I don't know anyone who'd put forth more effort than they have to.

Things to note: -For Miss Martian maybe she's J'onn's daughter he had with his human wife or a clone? -It would be hard for the Fatal Five to be from before Far From Home because it seems like the Eye of Ekron was destroyed and the Empress was leaving it behind. (also they may be all dead) -Also if it takes place after than the scene where it shows all the Legion of Superheores would have had her as a statue...probably.
@@dcauwatchtower Personally I think it could be a daughter who grows up fast tank to Martian genes or A hybrid clone between Martian and Human because J'onn wanted children. And then had her aged up (Like how Galatea had her be aged up)
Just discovered your channel, and this video is giving me flashbacks of when I was working on the Star Wars ttrpg and we'd constantly get emails asking "what level of canon" something from our books was and I was like, "I don't decide that. You all decide that. Leave me out of it."
16:25 Another that combines what you said is that Supergirl was working behind the scenes because they don't want to have to mind-wipe Clark every time, so she didn't get involved in the time travel shenanigans because Clark shouldn't know his cousin is in the future.
I wish that the animators would have had Two-face at the funeral. He could have been escorted there in hand-cuffs by Batman and it would be so easily explained. 😢
In the words of CM Punk when he did a brief period of working with Marvel on Drax; "I think its pretty obvious that all writers out there don't really give a shit about continuity."
A thing about the GL central power battery, it seems that they used the same model from Green Lantern: first flight which Bruce Timm produced. This doesn't really change anything just thought that was interesting.
Sub Zero wasn't done by Timm? Oh, that explains why Dick and Babs got to be a real couple for a bit and they were both well written, because for some reason Timm can't get either of them right(See instead Young Justice: OUTSIDERS for how it should be done). But yeah, Fatal Five works as cannon.
My headcanon for Kilowog is that his old look was him as a teenager, and his species just ages different, maybe with their mouth things changing and their body under the chest gets bulkier.
What if the reason superman wears space suits sometimes was(besides the obvious point to sell toys) because hed be afraid to get near a place like krypton where his powers would revert or if he disnt want to find another element that would effect him? Similar to kryptonite? We know superman is comfortable flying around the earth possibly because he knows whats around the earth and is used to it. In my opinion it makes more sense this way cuz if superman needed it to be cautious then he might as well wear it when hes away from earth
Plot twist: Arkkis Chummuck got blasted into the alternate timeline Hal and Guy are from, and through dimension-hopping shenanigans, they brought him back to the DCAU, but both ended up either permanently stuck there, or stayed around long enough to become honorary members of the League.
Great article. There are some things that are harder to fit than the few Green Lanlantern and Legion differences. Zatanna, the Penguin, Zeta, Hardcastle and old Static are more problematic.
28:00 You guys gonna Will it Canon Green Lantern TAS? They actually addressed this with Hal, John, and Guy enough that it does harken back to Timm style. Also it has Timm's art style just in 3D...
We couldnt not say that. He probably just can hold his breath with his super-lungs , for a while(not as limited as humans but limited still) BUT that doesnt mean he wont wear a spacesuit if he has one available and at the ready.
Regarding Miss Martian, to me it not only would've helped clear up the mystery regarding how she fits in the DCAU, but also further flesh out her character and her sub-plot of proving her worth to the Justice League if we were given even the slightest hint towards her backstory and how that may connect to her goal, because we never know WHY she wants to join the team, just that it's what she wants and when the day is saved she's voted in: the end. Is it simply because she wants to do good, or like Martian Manhunter is it also because she feels being part of something greater would help her fit in after what may have happened to her in the past regarding the Martians? Did J'onn help her in any way? Does he have anything to do with Megan period? OH and Batman makes it clear he's teaching her begrudgingly ("You wanna be part of the Justice League? There are better teachers than me..."), yet we don't know WHY he's taken her under his wing, did the majority of the League vote for him to do it? Did J'onn ask him personally because he believed Batsy to be the best teacher for her? Did Megan herself just pester him until he said yes? Answering any of those questions with a line or two of dialogue totally would've been possible, making the pay-off to this sub-plot more satisfying without bogging down the rest of the story. Still despite that bit of head-scratching, I'm glad Miss Martian's in the DCAU as she's a cool, entertaining character (no less so because of Daniela Bobadilla doing a great job voicing her) with plenty of potential, which I hope will be followed up on in a future movie should this one sell well enough (fingers crossed).

It would make sense why Parallax would use Alan Scott, because he would have sensed the Guardians intention of stopping him he would have used a Latern that is not Connected to the Guardians nor is under their Surveillance (like Sinestro) to try to avoid a direct confrontation until he gained/regained enough strength to face them

if miss martian was an imperium, wouldn’t she die in sunlight?
Cadmus clone?
... also, if the "young justice" version of miss martian is a white martian then why is it that when she gave the boy that would become beast boy a blood transfusion his skin turned green?
Clinton Fraser well she says she shifts on a molecular level, which is how she was able to give him a transfusion, so maybe since she was green at the time she was a green martian on a molecular level (besides blood type) which turned him green.
that’s all i can think of besides “that’s just what the writers want”.
I like to think Hal and Abin knew each other making his death more impactful for Hal
Maybe Abin trained him
Kilowog is still Kilowog. Just squint when he's on screen. It's fine. I didn't even notice the difference.
You get it
James: “Fatal five is canon with evidence!”
People who don’t think it’s canon: “Fart nuggets!”
Looks at CBR
26:15 So that's the new Arkham Asylum facility that was mentioned in BB: ROTJ
It may not have purposely been that, but it wound up being so!
To those who STILL think Fatal Five isn’t canon, please remember the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Mantra:
“It’s just a show; I should really just relax”
You should do a "Batman: The Killing Joke" will it canon video. Similar visual design as the DCAU, three voice actors reprising their roles from the DCAU, Bruce Timm involvement, and the whole Bruce/Barbara relationship. I mean that last point alone would drive DCAU fans nuts.
Kilowags outfit actually changed in Justice League Unlimited from his justice league outfit as well ;)
Very true!
haha. I got that "Martian Manhunter eating Oreos in Nebraska" joke... because oreos are like cocaine to martians
Hal exists. The Once and Future Thing happened so I'm saying Hal exists.
@@zyaicob well they've shown that he exists, he just got the ring at a different time
You know what this show needs? An actual Cannon. To fire things from.
Good show. In my humble opinion, we as fans should stop worrying about if its cannon or not but just enjoy the well written story for what it is and be thankful our childhood heroes are still being brought to us to share with our kids and the younger generation.
I mean that is why we love DC , because the Characters have marked
our lives more than the order of the Green Lantern.
“Shining Knight is at the psychiatrist” *flashbacks to How Many Justice Leaguers* oof
If James Strecker himself tells me it is, then it is.
Watching this felt like only 5-10 Minutes has passed... yet some how I obsorbes the secrets to the multiverse!
Excellent video. I feel like people have been waiting for this since even before Justice League vs Fatal Five was even out.
So, can we now fit The Green Lantern Animated Series in the DCAU?
XD
I think when John and Bats went time travelling they retconned the manhunters from Blackest Night.
Hey I can buy it
The writers stated that Star Sapphire in JL/JLU is Carol Ferris
Old Bruce could have just been doing that thing my parents do. Referring to buildings as what they remember them being called for a long time. It could have previously been the metro tower and Bruce just instinctively calls it such, despite a name change.
Yeah, we tend to refer to the Og name if the new one is stupid.
In my home of Quezon City, is a section of Quezon Avenue called "Delta" because of the old Delta theatre/Dela Marced building. It was demolished just recently and a new building will take place(don't know when yet), but I imagine a lot of people including my generation and my father's, will still be calling it Delta.
Ok personal canon:
Before every interview, the writers flip a coin to decide whether or not the subject is canonical to the DCAU.
This way, they can watch the chaos unfold, and enjoy seeing the internet nerds go through the same pain the writers do EVERY FUCKING TIME YOU ASK THIS SHIT.
As a physical media guy, I'm still waiting on my copy to ship. But I love this channel so much I'll risk the spoilers to watch it.
Many people don’t worry about cannon.
But not us.
Not us.
We so need to see the Rann/Thangar war in a movie.
That would give me such a geek boner. It must be done
@Awohali Uhyoha Ashamed to admit I had to google that reference. I forgot all about that. :)
34 min and 43 sec of the best UA-cam has to offer 😌
My theory is the Kilowog in the movie is actually from the GL TAS universe and the DCAU Kilowog has since died, along with DCAU Jonathan Kent apparently. So GLTAS Kilowog came over to DCAU Earth to replace DCAU Kilowog
The real question is do all these Green Lantern Corps shenanigans mean that GLTAS is now on the table for canon?
I always liked to think Superman said he couldn't fly that fast so nobody would expect him too. I get he's OP and all, but going that fast has to be exhausting, and I don't know anyone who'd put forth more effort than they have to.
If only Mattie could analyze how Ben 10 fits into the DCAU!
I've been watching it on Google Play. It has every show in HD. I've seen every series except the reboot, since it's apparently bad.
@Non-Ugandan Knuckles Neat.
@@unchallengedmediocrity7886 I don't think the reboot is bad. It's different but different doesn't always mean bad. I suggest watching and forming your own opinion.
This whole channel is so niche yet fantastic quality. I don't understand it honestly. How can you keep making such great content from such a narrow subject matter?!?
nothing up my sleeve...
The niche narrow subject matter is the best part
Hope after you did this video James that you got some sleep ,Cuz we can't live without you guys content.
Things to note:
-For Miss Martian maybe she's J'onn's daughter he had with his human wife or a clone?
-It would be hard for the Fatal Five to be from before Far From Home because it seems like the Eye of Ekron was destroyed and the Empress was leaving it behind. (also they may be all dead)
-Also if it takes place after than the scene where it shows all the Legion of Superheores would have had her as a statue...probably.
We don’t see maybe half the LoSH statues in that room. We’ll likely be doing a whole video on Miss Martian though!
@@dcauwatchtower Personally I think it could be a daughter who grows up fast tank to Martian genes
or
A hybrid clone between Martian and Human because J'onn wanted children. And then had her aged up (Like how Galatea had her be aged up)
hey guys hows it going, 4 yrs into the future here and i can 100% confirm that JLVF5 and Harley Quinn and Batman is infact canon to the DCAU
Oh thank gosh
@@dcauwatchtower oh wow, what a surprise seeing you here😭😭
My personal headcanon is that Miss Martian is one of J'onn's daughters who actually survived and was discovered later.
Showed up just in time
Just discovered your channel, and this video is giving me flashbacks of when I was working on the Star Wars ttrpg and we'd constantly get emails asking "what level of canon" something from our books was and I was like, "I don't decide that. You all decide that. Leave me out of it."
I always figured Ms Martian was the child of Manhunter and the wife he settled down with in China.
That's actually a great idea!
16:25 Another that combines what you said is that Supergirl was working behind the scenes because they don't want to have to mind-wipe Clark every time, so she didn't get involved in the time travel shenanigans because Clark shouldn't know his cousin is in the future.
I giggled at "Adjacent Todd"
We've got in on a shirt in our merch store!
I wish that the animators would have had Two-face at the funeral. He could have been escorted there in hand-cuffs by Batman and it would be so easily explained. 😢
When I heard that "adJacenT odd" joke I instictively threw my popcorn forward
In the words of CM Punk when he did a brief period of working with Marvel on Drax;
"I think its pretty obvious that all writers out there don't really give a shit about continuity."
Love key they're gonna say that Barry and Jay existed before Wally and that he was actually on the Teen Titans in the next film.
@Will N I'm aware he was alluded to. They also Alluded to Heal Jordan the same way. If anything, making that cannon kinda makes this cannon.
Post JLU content rewatch continues. JLVTFF is incredible.
Bruce Timm explains a lot. It explains why Superman is sidelined when The Legion is HIS team.
Hell yeah about time!!
This video had pretty much all the Watchtower Database running gags.
Why do you say; The Creeper, Jack Ryder???
lol yes
@@mattiesavannahpahl9934 Love it
That Blink 182 reference tho
A thing about the GL central power battery, it seems that they used the same model from Green Lantern: first flight which Bruce Timm produced. This doesn't really change anything just thought that was interesting.
Yep! Oa is also an overlay of the “First Flight” and GLTAS Oas.
Any potential future videos on Justice League Gods and Monsters?
Sub Zero wasn't done by Timm? Oh, that explains why Dick and Babs got to be a real couple for a bit and they were both well written, because for some reason Timm can't get either of them right(See instead Young Justice: OUTSIDERS for how it should be done). But yeah, Fatal Five works as cannon.
anybody remembers the new guys from JLU Miss Martian and Jessica Cruz?
I love how Superman in "Hereafter" looks strikingly similar to rugged Jack in Season 5 of Samurai Jack. #Lamaar4life
Hal Jordan was directly referenced in brightest day from STAS
Correct. But not necessarily as a Green Lantern. We’ve done a whole video on how Hal Jordan might work in DCAU continuity!
Kilowog just let himself go
God has spoken.
Plot twist: Arkkis Chummuck got blasted into the alternate timeline Hal and Guy are from, and through dimension-hopping shenanigans, they brought him back to the DCAU, but both ended up either permanently stuck there, or stayed around long enough to become honorary members of the League.
But WILL we get that Titans will it canon episode?
It's not really necessary, since it's pretty clear that the show has no ties to the DCAU. Also, they've talked about why it isn't canon in the past.
It’s pretty obvious that it isn’t bud
Great article. There are some things that are harder to fit than the few Green Lanlantern and Legion differences. Zatanna, the Penguin, Zeta, Hardcastle and old Static are more problematic.
The Jl and JLU themes were both played in the movie as well 😁
Yep! Check out our Easter Eggs video!
I don't think they will ever do a Timm-style movie again that isn't DCAU (by Timm-style, I mean this level of Timm-style).
28:00
You guys gonna Will it Canon Green Lantern TAS? They actually addressed this with Hal, John, and Guy enough that it does harken back to Timm style. Also it has Timm's art style just in 3D...
It’s on the list!
Anyone else ever notice that the metro tower look like the hall of justice
We could say superman can survive in space now because his gotten better/stronger at using his powers and that he isn't human
We couldnt not say that. He probably just can hold his breath with his super-lungs , for a while(not as limited as humans but limited still) BUT that doesnt mean he wont wear a spacesuit if he has one available and at the ready.
@@alexsapsarras4812 no body can hold ur breathe in space because its close to a vacuum the air gets ripped out ur lungs
I guess I was the only one rooting for the Teen Titans video to come out first -.-
Been rewatching your Will It Canon videos all day and I've just realized the apron has a Starbucks logo.
Watchtower Database
, Can you do an episode of "Will it Canon?", with the JLU Comics, and Justice League Doom next??? Please???
The "Not Canon" parts are the bests it got me every time
Maybe Ms Martian us J'onn's daughter? We did see him living on earth so maybe he had a kid
I just remembered that Lex Luthor is dead now and I’m sad.
As Bruce Timm said we can't truly consider a character dead unless we see a body, so Luthor may be out there... somewhere...
DC MEDIA NEWSWIRE yeah but he’s practically dead if he ain’t moving.
