Unchallenged Mediocrity - Ha! Just going down the list of stuff everybody clambers for. What would you like to see us put under the canonicity microscope?
As a thought experiment, it would be interesting to imagine if 'Crisis on two worlds' was made as and aired before JLU season 1. How would the story lines in the movie change aspects of the Unlimited Show. The first thing that comes to my mind is the arc of the Question and that he would not have the certainty that 'Luthor is Luthor in any world' because he would know better because of this movie. Another method of coming to the confrontation in Luthor's office would need to be established. Perhaps an episode where the Question brakes League protocol and contacts the Questions from the Lords world, and the Crisis world (in a Silence of Lambs locked up style). With our Question coming to the same conclusion of sacrificing himself to End Luthor with the logic "good, bad or raving mad - a Luthor will change the world." That would be just one way episodes would need to change to accommodate the original release plan.
When I first heard James Woods as Owlman, I was blown away by his performance. Makes me wish it was Woods and Conroy going at it as Owlman vs Batman. Josh Keaton and Gina Torres are also one of my favorites.
I always interpreted this movie as an alt world that parallel's something that happened in the dcau timeline, and gave us a (altered) glimpse into it. And I like to think this is connected to YJ.
I like to think that the Hal Jordan that popped up in the DCAU from an alternate timeline was the one from here. Not sure if that works, but I like it. (Which now makes me wish he looked like the one from Superfriends)
If it where up to me, I'd just make it so that Hal and John Stewart end up having to partner up to save Hal's original partner, Kilowog, from an anti-alien taskforce, because Guy Gardner would've been their any other option for a human secret Green Lantern operative, and they both hate him because of how obnoxious he is (in a Lethal Weapon type of story). Personally, I just don't mind that John Stewart was the Green Lantern of the Timverse instead of Hal Jordan (Same goes for the odd Wally West name change). I get why they did that, and I actually ended up liking John Stewart; however, I still very much prefer Hal Jordan as the real Green Lantern, and I would still prefer for him to be put into the spotlight much more often.
What do you mean odd name change in regards to Wally West? Dcau Wally is very accurate to comic Wally. Really the only difference is working at a crime lab like Bardy otherwise he's much closer to Wally than Barry
@@liamlennon3316 Actually, comic bully is INFJ. But almost every other depiction of Wally is INTP. Barry Allen is the one that's INTP. And he's also currently being butchered and Wally's new run.
One way i've always interpreted this movie is that similar events that took place in this universe also took place in the main dcau timeline, we just never saw them. Like this basically gave us a similar look into those events, albeit a bit of a different version of those. I think given all the things that line up with this, its safe to assume some sort of adventure like this (and potentially justice league doom) had happened to the main timeline, just out of our view
I believe that the DCAU version actually happened, but off-screen. Unfortunately, we will never see this version because it would not make sense to make another movie with the same plot. Or they could do and launch a new trend: Reboots of animated movies.
It's not canon, 100%, however, it is fun to see how it would have bridged the gap between JL and JLU. We see the introduction of the invisible jet, the new Watchtower in production, and even the genesis of the idea for expanding the League, all things likely unchanged from the original script. It's probably best it isn't canon, though, as it works REALLY well on its own, and it might have been a bit derivative of "A Better World" from JL. Still fun to view it with the knowledge it was gonna be in the DCAU. Side Note: While watching it, was trying to figure out if Hal Jordan replaced John Stewart, then who replaced Hawkgirl in the script. Then I realized why she wasn't in it in the first place and broke my heart all over again. Honestly would have been interesting to see the League dealing with the aftermath of Starcrossed, honestly. That's the biggest advantage "Crisis On Two Earths" could have had in being set in the DCAU.
This has been bugging me that it was in the channel but I couldn’t watch until today. I’m so excited to see the video finally. It was good. Not dissapoint
a few things: YOUREE BACCCKK!!! need these videos. I need to here people talk about the dcau. Would it be possible to to will it canons for non dcau media? Example would be such as under the red hood fitting into young justice lastly: Public enemies?
It seems this could/should have been canon. However, WB took great care (for whatever dumb reason) to be certain it was NOT. Looking back to the source material, I felt the first couple "Crisis" stories [Two Earths & Three Earths], back before it became a stunt "event" were good. It gave a chance to bring in seldom-seen characters and new twists on established ones (Hero Lex!) without warping continuity with "dream" or "imaginary" stories. Transferring that from its comics roots into an almost-DCAU movie seems appropriate; since they weren't able to place it as a bridge between JL and JLU as planned.
My thoughts on this movie are pretty much like you said near the end: Something -like it- happened. Then again, the "something like it" seemed to wind up being the Justice Lords arc, iirc, and two "alternate and evil teams" stories back to back woulda been kinda ridiculous.
Something that makes this particular installment interesting is that it was actually developed as a transition from JL to JLU (I think you mentioned that, idunno been a while). So it's interesting to wonder how they ended up deciding to put all the disqualifying changes in.
Glad you guys are back. You inspired me to timeline my favorite cartoon (Steven Universe). It's arguably easier to timeline one show than eight, but it has its moments of hair pulling. Happy to have you back, keep making great content, because I love you...in a strictly platonic way
Comics, video games, crossovers, plus an upcoming movie. It's harder than I originally thought. I admire the amount of hard work you guys put in. Steven Universe is only 5 years old. The DCAU spans 1992-2017
@@mattiesavannahpahl9934 it's a great show. I highly recommend it. And thanks! I actually have been contemplating for a little while about whether or not to start doing UA-cam. I really appreciate the support
It would be great if there was a throwback reference to superman having a mullet in the Timmverse, just explained away with "it was the early 90's, people thought leifeld was cool, leave my hair out of it!". We don't get enough defensive superman
Correct me if I’m wrong, but they called Flash “Barry” in this movie, in the JL show, the only Flash was Wally and he was given Barry’s origin, ergo there is no Barry Allen in the DCAU but there is in the movie, thus not canon. But I could be wrong
I don't know how or why this is only the first video of this series that I've watched, but now I've gotta check out the last one, and I'm looking forward to future episodes of this, and all the other videos in general! I say this every time you make a video, but each one just reminds me how much I love the DCAU, and this channel. Keep up the Bat-tastic work! Also, man, the design for the Imperiums in JL are cool, sorta generic, and weird at the same time! ;) -You called them "Imperiums" at 14:17.
I loved this movie. It was pretty cool, and I liked seeing Hal. I especially love the art style. They basically use it with a little less detail in Young Justice. I really like the Bruce Timm universe art style, but the style of this movie, Justice League: Doom, and Young Justice is my absolute favorite. On a side note, I like to thank that the criminally underrated Green Lantern: The Animated Series, which had the awful misfortune of debuting not long after the Green Lantern film in 2011, is within the DCAU continuity. I swear, it looks like it has the exact same art style, just in 3D animation instead of the traditional 2D. It introduces the Red Lanterns and all of their prominent members like Atrocitus, Mogo, the Blue Lantern Saint Walker, and a whole lot of other awesome stuff. I think it even uses the Orange Lantern Larfleeze. I don't think any of it conflicts with anything in DCAU continuity, because 99.99% of it is in far off space. It's certainly good enough to count itself in the DCAU.
I feel Crisis on Two Earths is as cannon as Batman: Arkham Asylum (that would be a cool Will It Cannon? episode). It ties more into Justice League: Doom (and maybe some other movies). But like you said, if you squint, you could see how it fits. I think it's personally more fun to do with Arkham Asylum, though, only because it has a lot of the same cast. I suppose this has a lot of the same cast too, but... I like Arkham Asylum more. Also, best Arkham game; it never gets old, and it's always super satisfying from start to finish (in my opinion) (sorry for all the parenthesis).
I would simply leave it at if it were canon, it would be reaaaaally redundant to have both this movie and the Justice Lords in the same continuity. People would have just spent all their time calling it out if it came out back when it was originally intended as it would have been a lot less time between the two. That extra time gap really helped distance it from direct comparison and let it stand on it's own.
I look it at this the same way I look at the Schumacher Batman films, which were very clearly produced as sequels and came out at time when parallel universes wasn't so familiar to us, but now I see them as being in a separate universe where things are mildly different, *but predicated on two Schumacherverse films that we didn't see but share the main plot points with the first two films of the Burtonverse. Similarly, Batman the Animated Series was intended to follow up on the Burtonverse, but it just would not be practical or enjoyable for the series to keep Joker and Penguin dead, so you have to imagine some of these events happening in a bunch of different universes with subtle differences. Harvey Dent had a very different personality, but he still became the Two Face. This manner of looking at things makes the question of canonicity obsolete (though it can still be fun to talk about and speculate), as the timelines are occurring in their respective universes, and it only corrects the inappropriate assumption we tend to make that nothing can be thought to have existed or occurred if we did not explicitly see it on screen. In reality, each of us humans is in our own universe in our minds, as all the events play out through the filters of our values, biases and perspectives and are recalled through an imperfect and often actually false memory. So when someone delivers a piece of exposition, take it with a grain of salt rather than as gospel, because all you really know is they said it, not that they are a reliable witness, or that they have their facts straight or that they are honest.
For me, Crisis on Two Earths is canon, but not continuity. So, in other words, it takes place in an alternate universe like Justice Lords or Justice Guild. However, I would also say that a version of the events of the film did happen in continuity as well. So while the film itself isn't continuity because of two many details being different, something very much the events in it did happen in continuity.
(11/23) Can't wait any longer @Watchtower Database. The suspense is killing me. I bet it's gonna be an epic video covering my favorite animated universe of all time with one my fav DCU original films. What a great deal you're giving us
@@dtfilmmaker those arent even really connected. Release order doesnt work for those so it would be really difficult to make a timeline for those. The X-Men, Spider-Man and X-Men 90s series comics are a shared universe. Iron Man, Fantastic Four and The Incredible Hulk is a shared universe. Thats what marvel wiki says anyway.
It makes sense in the DCAU continuity. It takes place between JL and JLU. Hawkgirl is gone. A new Watchtower is under construction. John Stewart probably is taking time off to heal, so the League hired Hal Jordan to be his temporary replacement.
_ Manu _ nah Luthor never killed mercy Superman sealed doomsday in phantom zone because he was an unkillable Superman Cadmus clone and toy man is completely different

Why does nobody ever question the fact that in this movie Mary Batson aka superwoman is dating Owl Man she is a child in a super powered grown woman’s body and she’s dating a grown ass man that’s predatory and creepy as hell
If I can sum up the DC Continunity. The DC Multiverse would Be like a Tree or a River! The Core Events for every Character start at the beginning with a few differences between timelines and Alternate Earths, but from there the Branches or tributaries of events all flow/crash into each other, or become break away…becoming SO different that it spawns completely different outcomes and relationships! I Believe “Crisis on Two Earths” is both canon to the Timmverse and an Alternate universe Telling of events! As it’s clear that Two Branches have intertwined in some aspects! It honestly Makes so Much sense the more you think about it. Just like there are so Many Trees on Earth, there are a vast number of Alternate Universe that co-exist.
I think the writers of Young Justice once said that the Green Lantern show as "canon adjacent" to their show in the sense that while they were originally created as separate properties the YJ crew liked the GL show and wanted to continue plot threads that had been left hanging so they just decided that even if they take place in different universes the events of the GL show more or less happened in YJ as well. Kinda like how the Justice Lords universe is almost identical to the main Timmverse up to a certain point before Lex became president and murdered the Flash. For Crisis on Two Earths I just assume that everything that happened in that movie also happened in broad strokes within the Timmverse. In the Timmverse John Stewart and Wally West took the place of Hal Jordan and Barry Allen, Aquaman had a hook hand, and the other heroes Batman summoned were different people, but Wonder Woman still obtained her jet from this adventure. The main Lex was out and about instead of in prison and people had different reactions to the mirror universe Lex's arrival, but Batman still tricked the mirror Flash into aging himself to death because he couldn't bear to let his Flash go through with it after seeing what he became in the universe where Flash died.
I feel like "a very close but slightly different universe" explanation fits the best with this movie since you know, multiple universes being the main plot
I'm sorry, but a Character's voice doesn't necessarily mean "Non-Canon" version Especially if it's never mentioned or if an Actor passes away for instance If something for the DCAU where to be made after the Passing of an Actor would that change the Canon placement for something ?
Or an evil Question
@@lewisaino Answer
It’s Lex *Flipping* Luthor
When I first heard James Woods as Owlman, I was blown away by his performance. Makes me wish it was Woods and Conroy going at it as Owlman vs Batman. Josh Keaton and Gina Torres are also one of my favorites.
The biggest thing that blew my mind is that a video store stills exists
I always interpreted this movie as an alt world that parallel's something that happened in the dcau timeline, and gave us a (altered) glimpse into it.
And I like to think this is connected to YJ.
Maybe, in that world Hal is John's back up instead of the other way around. John needed time off, Kyle was on Oa so they picked Hal.
I like to think that the Hal Jordan that popped up in the DCAU from an alternate timeline was the one from here. Not sure if that works, but I like it. (Which now makes me wish he looked like the one from Superfriends)
Makes sense considering Owlman and his comments
So glad you guys are back.
Not getting my dose of DCAU nerdiness is hard...
Dc should make the original Worlds Collide into an animated movie
Or a comic, if a movie can't give it justice nowadays.
I had the idea that Crisis on 2 Earths was not tied since John didn't appear.
If a better world was another episode entitely than this film would've been made.
Mayne that would be the starro or despero episode
Clancy Brown: “BURN!”
I always saw this film as being up to the audience on whether or not it’s canon, somethings fit perfectly while others are completely different.
Example would be such as under the red hood fitting into young justice
lastly: Public enemies?
Public Enemies and Darkseid Movie
This is one of my favorite will it canons, if you did make one on justice league doom I’d 100% watch it!
9:54 BURN
The Light games of SU sure are an interesting bunch to look at.
I absolutely adore Phil Barassa's art style!
In Crisis On 2 Earths The Flash is Wally West but in Justice League Doom The Flash is Barry Allen WHAT!
It would be great if there was a throwback reference to superman having a mullet in the Timmverse, just explained away with "it was the early 90's, people thought leifeld was cool, leave my hair out of it!". We don't get enough defensive superman
It’s cool asf to imagine dcau Batman fighting owl man and sending him off like that
Correct me if I’m wrong, but they called Flash “Barry” in this movie, in the JL show, the only Flash was Wally and he was given Barry’s origin, ergo there is no Barry Allen in the DCAU but there is in the movie, thus not canon. But I could be wrong
He's Wally, actually.
Also, man, the design for the Imperiums in JL are cool, sorta generic, and weird at the same time!
;)
-You called them "Imperiums" at 14:17.
@@mattiesavannahpahl9934 Oooh, sounded like he said "Imperium soldiers".
It’s on our list to take a look at! But yeah it’s 100% Bruce Timm style.
This was perfect 15:10 👌
(Nov. 23, 2018) Calling it now, this'll be awesome.
What did you say about zeta project it’s my fave lol
Now that the og script has been released, we gotta get a sequel to this video!
And you shall! Already in the works 🫡
I remember seeing this movie at a Safeway DVD rental. Remember those? Me either!
I’m pretty excited for your guys’s thoughts on this one. I loved the last “canon” episode you did on Brainiac Attacks.
Yay! You guys are back. I can’t wait for more.
Really looking forward to this, though I don't think it will, I will enjoy listening as always
I love them bringing back the Flash voice actor from Superman the animated series !
Oh how I've missed these videos
Considering "Justice League vs. The Fatal Five" the point about Hal Jordan may not be as important now.
Yep, this video is decently old. Check out our “Will It Canon?” on JLvsF5!
@@dcauwatchtower Thank you for the reply!
I just watched this and JL doom. I feel like the second one works better. Maybe that’s canon?
1:09 I care, sir
I CARE
What if the Worlds collide film would’ve ended the Timmverse the nice way?
OMG OMG I've been waiting for this since it was announced.
Damn I was cringe
For me, Crisis on Two Earths is canon, but not continuity. So, in other words, it takes place in an alternate universe like Justice Lords or Justice Guild. However, I would also say that a version of the events of the film did happen in continuity as well. So while the film itself isn't continuity because of two many details being different, something very much the events in it did happen in continuity.
Oops, too many, not two many.
(11/23) Can't wait any longer @Watchtower Database. The suspense is killing me. I bet it's gonna be an epic video covering my favorite animated universe of all time with one my fav DCU original films. What a great deal you're giving us
Favourite animated universe? What other animated universe is there that can compete?
@@probot6515 There is the 90s Marvel shows, but we both know that doesn't compete at all
@@dtfilmmaker those arent even really connected.
Don’t tell us it’ll be difficult to make a timeline...don’t use that reverse psychology...
@@dcauwatchtower that wasn't my intention... hehe
It makes sense in the DCAU continuity. It takes place between JL and JLU. Hawkgirl is gone. A new Watchtower is under construction. John Stewart probably is taking time off to heal, so the League hired Hal Jordan to be his temporary replacement.
"Superman Doomsday" will it canon?
Good video guys
_ Manu _ nah Luthor never killed mercy Superman sealed doomsday in phantom zone because he was an unkillable Superman Cadmus clone and toy man is completely different
@@InfernoBlade64 Maybe the movie happened in a timeline where the Justice Lords didn't show up, considering at the point they did Doomsday was attacking.
that's on hell of a specific series I like it
This is great. I've seen Crisis on 2 Earths a lot of times and just got through Justice League DCAU for first time (and am just starting JLU).
Why does nobody ever question the fact that in this movie Mary Batson aka superwoman is dating Owl Man she is a child in a super powered grown woman’s body and she’s dating a grown ass man that’s predatory and creepy as hell
It’s never stated that’s actually what’s going on here, but if true that is WILD.
Pretty sure that basically also happened to Mary in Young Justice. At least, it's implied that she got did adult stuff in her adult body
That’s how we think of it as well!
I feel like "a very close but slightly different universe" explanation fits the best with this movie since you know, multiple universes being the main plot
I'm sorry, but a Character's voice doesn't necessarily mean "Non-Canon" version
Especially if it's never mentioned or if an Actor passes away for instance
If something for the DCAU where to be made after the Passing of an Actor would that change the Canon placement for something ?
No, no it wouldn't
It’s true. This was our first episode of “Will It Canon?” and we’ve since become a lot more detailed on our analyses. I’d recommend the ones on “Justice League vs the Fatal Five” and “Teen Titans”!
On the other Earth, instead of Billy getting the powers from the Wizard, it is Mary. She isn't a Kryptonian, she is just the human sister of Billy.
I always thought that Hal Jordan was in deep space somewhere else in the universe during the justice league series.
We missed you guys, Also that cut to burn 😂😂
That spin was sick!
Justice lords vs crime syndicate, GO!
88 minutes anyone ?
2021 (3 years later): don’t know what I meant by that 🤷🏽♂️
2024 (another 3 years) later: Still don't know what i meant 🤷🏽♂️
I think JL doom is part of the young justice universe. Maybe!
I have a theory that Crisis on Two Earths, Justice League Doom, Flashpoint Paradox and the further DCAM are all in the same universe. Excluding one offs and story specific adaptions (ex. Superman vs the Elite, Batman The Dark Knight Pt. 1 & 2, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Gotham By Gaslight etc.)

Hello good day
I have a question
The animated films Justice League : Doom and Justice League : Crisis on Two Earths
Happen in the universe of Young Justice ie are they canon for young justice ? That's all greetings and sorry for my english is not my first language
Greg responds...
No.
Here's a list of the complete YJ Canon:
YOUNG JUSTICE (Season One) - 26 episodes (101-126)
YOUNG JUSTICE : INVASION (Season Two ) - 20 episodes (201-220)
YOUNG JUSTICE LEGACY video game - including Red Arrow's journal
YOUNG JUSTICE compantion comic book series - 27 issues (0-25 plus a free comic book day story)
--All of those issues (except for the free comic book day issue) have been collected in four trade paperbacks:
--* YOUNG JUSTICE , VOLUME ONE (collects 0-6)
--* YOUNG JUSTICE , VOLUME TWO : TRAINING DAY (collects 7-13)
--* YOUNG JUSTICE , VOLUME THREE: CREATURE FEATURES (collects 14-19)
--* YOUNG JUSTICE , VOLUME FOUR: INVASION (collects 20-25)
That's it. Period. Nothing else is canon to our series until Season Three (i.e. YOUNG JUSTICE : OUTSIDERS) hits the air (or until we get more comics).
So unfortunately no.
If u want to get technical about the dcau we had 3 voice actors for superman we got Tim dayl in his show and Christopher McDonald on batman beyond but dayl wouldn't return for justice league so we got George Newbern so the new voice castings can be overlooked
Can't Wait For The Update With The Leaked Script

Yes! Finally!
Crisis on Two Earths is awesome it’s one of my favorite movies
We also got some JLU style Crime Syndicate figures back then, it also include a John Stewart's Power Ring. I don't have any sources that can confirm this but they might be scrapped designs for what they would look like in the orginal movie idea
They're not 😁 But I do like those figures!
