So quick explanation of captain atom exploding, from what i understand, captain atom was turned into pure energy in a military experiment (he was framed for a crime he didnt commit and that was the only way he could get a pardon), and that energy is contained within his containment suit to keep him in a humanoid form. This gives him incredible strength, and the ability to absorb and emit energy. But dude is basically a walking nuke, so if his containment suit is breached, all his energy is dispersed in the form of an explosion, and he knew that, which is why he flew up into the stratosphere to protect everyone nearby from the explosion. And once the mission was done the league was able to repair his containment suit and collect all of his energy and stuff it back in the suit. Hes a really interesting character, but i feel like he is always kind of damned to be second fiddle because hes not popular enough
Yeah I did assume that he was basically just walking energy that could explode if the suit is compromised but it just sucks that the show didn't go further into his character. You get a little more in season 2 but that's about it
@@imverygerbyDr Manhattan didnt lol There are huge differences between the characters, Atom is a walking nuclear bomb in power and strength who can take on superman almost any day and is loyal to the US Government and respects the chain of command but will do the right thing if he has to. Dr Manhattan on the other hand is an apathetic god who can do whatever he wants and never really has any actual stakes in The Watchmen story. They have different abilities and drastically different personalities, morals, and values. All thats similar is how they go there powers, but still there not that similar when you actually dig into their characters. Your comparison is flawed.
I love the "Great Brain Robbery" for that fact that at the time this episode was made, Michael Rosenbaum was also playing Lex Luthor in "Smallville" and you can hear it in the way he plays his side of the Flash/Lex switch.
The Suicide Squad episode is frankly my favorite. The villains interacting and showing how actually scary encountering the league members is for the regular villains is so fun. Also Deadshot being scummy, and the background heros fighting too. Personally I’m happy harley didn’t get put into this one, especially with the bloat we have nowadays it would’ve just blended together into the rest as it aged
One of the things they wanted to do the most in this show was forming the Birds of Prey which most commonly consisted of Dinah Lance aka Black Canary, Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl and Helena Bertinelli aka Huntress. Batgirl had long been introduced in the DCAU and was voiced by Tara Strong. The episode "Double Date" (scripted by famous Birds of Prey author Gail Simone) in season 2 would have also featured Barbara's debut in Justice League Unlimited. But due to the restrictions on Batman-related characters, she was replaced with Green Arrow and the Question. At the end of the day they said the episode we ended up getting was better anyway so they didn't mind too much. The reason she wasn't allowed to appear along with may other Batman related characters was because of the Bat Embargo. It's why Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, Scarecrow, Riddler and other characters didn't appear in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited. It's also why Batman never appeared in Teen Titans and why Robin only appeared in The Batman 2004 series after Teen Titans had ended and why villains who appeared in the Nolan films never appeared in The Batman 2004 series like Ra's al Ghul, the Scarecrow and Two-Face. More puzzlingly, the Mad Hatter, who never appeared in the Nolan films, was also absent.
Absolutely loved this entire series. This version of the DCAU is genuinely my favorite series of Super heroes shenanigans. I had a basic appreciation for it when I was a kid because cool super hero’s. However watching now as a 21y/o you really see how far they pushed the bill to create a show that will hold up forever.
The black and white scenes are not flashbacks, they're what Terry thought he was going to do but he doesn't do it at the end, this is evident with the real flashback being in color and the ending scene making no sense if the black and white scenes were real
I don't think that's proven to be true but that is definitely an interesting way to think about the black and white sequences since the Justice League flashback is in colour. Maybe someone like Dan Riba, Bruce Timm, Dwayne McDuffie or Jerry Siegel have confirmed this but idk
Fun fact: in the Double Date episode of Season 2, the guy called Steven who Black Canary and Green Arrow are meant to protect is actually the father of that unnamed albino psychic shown in the Season 2 episode of Batman Beyond about the telepathic girl who gets kidnapped.
Not sure if anyone else has said this, but I do believe that Rorschach is based off the question, if memory serves they wanted to use the question or something like that but they could for some reason so they made Rorschach. At least I think I read that somewhere, but I stand to be corrected 😄 great video
The entire Watchmen team are based on Charleton comics characters that were acquired in a DC buy out. The Nite Owl is Blue Beetle, Rorschach is the question, the comedian is Peacemaker, Dr. Manhattan is Captain Atom and the silk specter was nightshade. DC had freshly gotten the rights and encouraged Alan Moore to make his own original characters rather than forever change the characters.
Quick cool bit in "for the man who has everything", there's a moment at the end of Clark's convo with Jor'el (spelling?) where the VA shifts to the VA for Pa Kent for a line
Regarding your first point about wishing for a link between the end of JL and the beginning of JLU, that was initially supposed to be the movie Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. The pitch didnt go through, though, the movie was made later on as an independent thing tied to no real continuity, but if you watch the movie then there are ALOT of hints left in the script that connect it to its origin. Supes immediately recognizing alternate Luthor as being from a different universe - a conclusion that would only make sense as a follow up interacting with the justice lords in JL, the movie starting with the watchtower being repaired (post JL ending) and the teleporter we see used in JLU being tested, the group having 6 members instead of the usual 7 (not that weird, but aligns well with Shayera being gone and her doppelganger's appearance), and then ending with Batman mentioning the idea of an "outreach" program (inviting other heroes to the league), Superwoman being with Owlman, similar to Wonderwoman and Batman in this continuity, WW acquiring the invisible jet and some other subtle things. Aside from Aquaman having a different personality and Hal being in place of John (though the GLs in this continuity canonically switch out anyway), it fits pretty well as a throughline between the two shows.
you prolly already know this stuff, but it's cool how the guy who was mindwiped in the Taskforce X episode and Steven Mandrigora both direct family members appear as villains in Batman: Beyond (the creepy face guy in the computer and the Mandirgora's son is that psychic cult leader).

To answer your question as to why Plastique was on the Suicide Squad but not Harley Quinn is a two fold answer. The Bat Embargo which stopped Batman characters appearing in other media. And the fact that by the time this show c.e out, Harley wasn't really associated with the Squad, that wouldn't happen until YEARS later during the New 52 in 2011.
The reason Nightwing wasn't allowed to officially appear in the show was due to that stupid Bat Embargo where where there weren't allowed to be multiple versions of characters in different media that were running at the same time that was made because of Christopher Nolan.
Great thing about JLU were all the obscure characters from DC. That was what I loved most about Batman: Brave and the Bold. Wonder if you’d consider doing that series. There were a few serious eps but just some great fun.
2:07:33 just wanna say that actually a Gamera copy/reference in terms of design. Since his first movie he was a bad guy but later sequels and other universes he's a defender of earth and children.
I believe the animated movie Crisis on Two Earths was intended to bridge the gap between Justice League and Unlimited but for some reason they repurposed it for their unrelated animated movie series.
@Zach.R The creeper was originally going to make more appearances in TNBA and possibly become a hero like he usually is but as we know, TNBA was canceled for batman beyond.
I hate that this series is unavailable for streaming in Norway. The only thing we have is the first season of the original JLAs and the first season of BTAS.
Wonder Woman didn’t ‘wake up’ as Mongol never knocked her out, she was playing possum! It’s def one of the best episodes, so heartbreaking. Personally I don’t hate Mongol, I especially liked him this episode being a bastard who then gets his shit kicked in

Hawk and Dove episode was one I grew up with the most. I was a violent kid and the episode showed me that I didn't always have to punch my problems. I still do from time to time.
I don't like how the women are always the ones who start fighting instead of thinking. It's really weird. In one episode Aquaman stops Supergirl from attacking and the enemy says something like "oh males are the smart ones on this planet" Which is kinda reflected althrough both shows.
@@Zach.R Any Batman related characters aside from Batman. They wanted to use Scarecrow and Riddler for the Legion as a Super Friends reference but couldn’t. I never said nobody cares about it it's just that not many people would watch a Static Shock video compared to the videos I've been doing about the other DCAU shows
So the only two shows you didn’t review were the one with the black cast and the one with a female lead is that what you’re saying you did every other show without there being a need but the show with the black cast and the show with a female lead you felt no need to do hmmmm until people express a need for it, but the shows with Caucasian male leads you just knew there would be an outpour for 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
