    Never seen any other video that explains assembly and disassembly so perfectly excellent job I also own a 6.0 dually and I have many spare injectors I want to rebuild a set and put them in I have two cylinders misfiring thank you for such a perfect video

    Holy crap man! This video was nothing short of amazing my friend. Your talking to a 6.0 lover / DIY guy. I recently picked up a real clean 04 F350 on auction. It has sticktion issues and was considering the best course of action to replace all the injectors. But the truck isn't really worth spending tons of money on new injectors so...after watching your awesome video, you've given me the confidence to go ahead and just rebuild them all. I loved your step by step straight fwd procedures clarifying ea step. And the importance of the orientation.
    Well done my friend!! Thank you for taking the time!! Awesome!!

    UPDATE!!!
    I got everything replaced and put back together. Truck ran perfect, amazing!! After towing my skid steer to a job 30 mins away, coming home empty, i started having a "soft / random misfire". Pulled out #5 injector and the freakin solenoid bolt nut was literally hanging on by the last thread almost to drop off into the oil system abyss!! When i re-installed the solenoids, i followed your steps to the letter putting a drop of red locker after the nut. Now i'm going to remove all 8 injectors and put a drop of red on the threads before the nut goes on. When i re-installed all the solenoid bolts, i noticed that to tighten them all down just to the point of "no wiggle", the nut was'nt really tight enough it seemed. Anyways,, just a little feedback. Loved your how to videos on the rebuild process, but the solenoid bolt step needs a review.

      @@BrigT262 good job at rebuilding the injectors. The biggest thing is your learning how to work on them. The more you know the better you can fix it and the more reliable you’ll make your truck. Keep it up!!!

      @showmerepair That's good to know!
      What's weird is the nuts were really tight when I went to disassemble them. But going back on, they weren't near as tight. Maybe they're only a one time use design??
      Hopefully the thread locker drop will hold them secure for the long haul.
      When I pulled #8 on the drivers side, the nut had fallen off! Luckily it fell into a freeze plug and just sat there. By some miracle, as I swiped around w the mini magnet, I found it!

    Just wanted to throw out a big ThankYou for this video series. After watching a few times, this gave me convidence to tackle this task. Ran into a few different issues with my injectors #1 had a burnt out coil. Literally a melted plastic and a wire poking thru. #5 had a stuck spool valve. Had to lightly punch it thru. I think the spool valve housing has grooves. Tried sanding the spool valve itself but didn't seem to help much. Still will not slide smoothly. Going to have to replace the spool valve and housing. And finally on #8 had a broken plunger spring, broken hat, and abnormal wear on the side of plunger. I had ordered the bitteroot kit along with new coils but I just ordered two cores of ebay to finish up the job. Really not a difficult task once you have done a few. Anyways, thanks again. Truely a great video series and will help many others. Look forward to more vids. Kevin

    I have to agree with all of you out there. These videos are priceless! After restudding my '05 6.0L I had stiction issues. I pulled the Injectors and tried the ol' sanding the poppits trick. Even though I was told that wouldn't last for long I had to try it. Just to restud the truck ain't cheap...but a necessary evil. The trick did fix my stiction issue so far but it started having an injector misfiring all over the board when the truck warmed up just as you described. Cold up to 170F it ran great but any warmer #6 would drop out, then work, then #5, then 3, 4, so on and so forth. So I started changing injectors. After 2 inj.$400 later someone on one of the forums chimed in and told me about the whole over tightening problem on the spool valves. I thought how tight is too tight? How long is a piece of string? Who knows. Then you not only mentioned it here Chris but you explained how to tighten them. Thank you. The details you gave in this video was great. I backed my spool valve bolts off and retightened with your instructions(I couldn't find instructions better than yours). My injectors are working great now with no more misses. This saved me another $1200 in injectors. Good work to all you guys who have made these videos out for us DIY'ers to follow and Thank you!

      @@showmerepair My fault. I should have known better. I have to take the other side apart tomorrow, because I fear the solenoid bolt is sliding back and forth and not the spool valve. I've been working on this truck for the last month and trying my best with what limited funds I have. I spent the last three days doing the right bank in a field with 20° high temperatures. If the nuts are still on the driver's side I'm going to snug them down and crimp them with the vise grips and pray the smoke goes away. I have to move my trailer before CSPD (Colorado Springs) hauls it to impound. I left a note saying that I would have it moved in three days and that was last Monday. In my defense, I'm a retired body man! I just make them look good. But I've been around long enough to know better. It's to cold and I'm not motivated enough to take the oil pan off. I can only pray. But still I couldn't have rebuild them without your videos. And for a couple hours it seemed like I had it fixed. But when I lost the nuts it went bad instantly. That's why I'm certain that I lost the other side now. Thank God the block heater still works. I don't have to keep running inside to warm up my hands. One thing I can't find is anyone who makes the pintle tips that go inside the injector tips mine have wear rings about 1/64 inch from the tip, like a wore out spray gun jet. Some don't have them that's why I think they're shot.

      Lay the nut on a vice, hold it down on it's side with a piece of wire through the hole and tap/pound it out of round just enough that it requires a fair torque when tightening - poor mans friction nut.

    Hello. I have 240k miles on my injectors. One of them is failing. Planing to rebuild them all.
    I have been told not to rebuild because I need special table to test them. Is it really necessary? Or just follow your steps and I should be fine?
    If I sand them to a shop to be rebuild. What they will do differently. Thank you for your time.

    • @showmerepair
      @showmerepair  10 місяців тому +1

      I’ve been told that 300k is max mileage on service life. Meaning rebuilding on high mileage injectors does not have good outcome. I’m just relaying information. I have no sources to refer one to for this to be a fact.
      The special table is called an injector flow bench. This allows the injector to be tested outside the engine. The information from the flow bench would be compared to a known good injector. If the fueling measured is high or low from known good data.
      I do not actually offer rebuilding injectors for customers because I have no way to test the injector before and after rebuilding to know if I fixed an issue.
      I truthfully would want to diagnose your engine and evaluate whether you only needed one injector or it would be best to replace all.

I am not 100% sure how much I tightened the screw that holds the magnets, but when the engine gets warm the injector starts dropping out. When it's cold, it runs perfectly. I used a nutdriver and torx driver to tighten it down because I was paranoid about over torquing the screw and breaking it. The magnet harness I got on feebay, so I have no idea of its origin or function. What are the symptoms of an over tightened screw? Perhaps the magnet / coils are just bad? Yes but it requires using a carbide bit. Grinding into the housing. I tested it on a damaged housing. If that was done you’d definitely want to disassemble and clean the injectors.
      When replacing the top o-ring I pinch the o-ring flat then stick it in the top of the housing. I lube it with oil then work the o-ring in the a dull pocket screw driver. I damaged one doing this years ago. Now I’m pretty good at it.

I pulled off the oil rail and tested it out with air and it was fine. AP has a technical bulletin (search up "APTB 01/08 R1" on Google) on how to remove that top circlip. Basically, you use a centre punch or a specially ground chisel to fold the clip in on itself, then pull it out with pliers. I find that method faster and less likely to damage the O-ring on install, but it's frustrating to do that way until you develop the knack for it.

      I’ve not tried any of the products that are made to fix the cracks. I usually just replace one or both cylinder heads. due to pinpointing specific injector bore that is leaking can be tough. If I could figure out the exact injector bore. The repair I would like to try is from Accurate Diesel. www.accuratediesel.com/shop/279.html

      @@showmerepair I was completely joking about fixing cracks, but now that I see that kit...hmmm. My problem is the exhaust getting into the coolant system. I'm planning on new heads soon. If I can rebuild injectors myself, that means sooner because I wanted to do it all at the same time. I just did studs and a homemade remote cooler four years (~30k miles) ago. I looked up the kits you're using for the injectors. Are the springs really that necessary? They seem to add a lot to the cost of just new orings.

    • @showmerepair
      @showmerepair  4 роки тому

      Look into getting o-ringed heads. Only way I’ll do heads now. Way cheaper in the long run. I’ve had several injectors with springs that are thin from rubbing against the body of the injector or broken. Unless I was in a pinch it’s definitely worth it to get springs. I’ve had good luck with both standard and deluxe kits from bitter root diesel.

      I wouldn’t worry about the running rough cold until you fix the no start hot. Sounds like you have a high pressure oil leak. The most common issues for hot no start. D-plugs or Top injector o-ring that oil rail nipple goes into. If you can’t get ahold of anything to pressurize the high pressure oil system with air.
      Start the engine. Create the issue of no start hot. Remove valve covers. Have someone crank the engine and look for an oil leaks.

    Ended up rebuilding all 8 on my 6.0 been cranking haven't gotten a start yet just long cranks. Reaches 800 PSI on ICP. Is this normal, I did reseal with HHC nipple rings, Blue spring mod, the injector rebuild with new nozzles, spool valves and deluxe ring kit, ICP screen update, At a loss as to why it hasn't started up yet though. Any ideas or is it normal for long cranks after doing that much work. You have a leak in the high pressure oil system. These engines will run on 500psi. If you don’t have anything to pressurize the high pressure oil system with air. Use the starter wire by the passenger battery to crank the engine and look for high pressure oil leaks with valve covers off.

      The change in tone is normal. Did the truck run before or are you trying to fix a problem?
      The more I think about it. You may not have a high pressure oil leak. The engine will start on 500psi. Does it hit 800 then drop below 500?
      Make sure your getting fuel to your secondary fuel filter. Remove the fuel filter on the engine. Turn the key on and watch to see if the fuel bowl fills with fuel. Be ready to turn the key off it will fill quickly.
