    Hey Chris. Thanks for the vid on rebuilding these injectors. I'm doing a head gasket job right now on my 6.0 and one of the injectors was stuck in the head. Long story short , I took the 2 t15 screws out to remove the electronics out of the way so that I could pry up on the injector with a couple of pry bars and the the injector popped out along with the big plunger and spring. I referred to this video to make sure I didn't lose any parts and put it back together. I was gonna buy a new injector until I saw your videos and figured out that I still had all the parts. I put it back together and it's going back into the truck, Eventually, I'll probably have to rebuild the injectors but for now, they're working fine.. Thanks... I just Subbed to your channel.

    • @showmerepair

      Yes the electrical side goes bad some times. If the electrical side is bad the pcm will set a circuit code for that specific injector. Before replacing the injector or electrical part of the injector due to the code you should check resistance of the coils.

    That little raised area on the nozzle needle isn’t machined on there from the factory. It is wear but doesn’t really hurt anything. I actually think is is erosion from the high pressure and high frequency from the injectors firing. I have built many non 6.0 injectors and that wear is common for all injectors with this style of nozzle. Great video.

    Love your videos Chris. If you're doing a lot of injectors, a good investment would be an inexpensive ultrasonic cleaner (they start at $35 on Amazon). We use several in our fuel injection shop and they do a much better job of cleaning stuff than just dipping in carb cleaner or using aerosols/rags. Plus they leave your hands free to do other stuff while they work.

    Excellent video ...where would the diesel leak into oil ? if was injector ?

    • @showmerepair
      @showmerepair  3 роки тому +1

      Diesel fuel flows through the cylinder head to feed each injector. The white and black o-rings on the body of the injector seal the fuel in. If the black seal is damaged at all fuel can leak out in to the valve train area of the cylinder head.
      You can also have an injector that has failed internally and is leaking fuel out the body.
      A good way to check for either of these is to put dye in the diesel fuel. Remove the oil rails from the head. Run the electric fuel pump to build fuel pressure. Use a black light to inspect around the injectors for leaks.

    Hey awesome video man im about to order up a kit and get it done. Question i have for you is, on these injectors is it most of the time just a question of cleaning them and changing the orings? Or do you see some of the components damaged or scratched to the point of needing a replacement? I ask because i hear that sometimes if you loose fuel pressure below 42psi you damage the injector, im not sure how it would become damaged from that.

    • @showmerepair
      @showmerepair  2 роки тому +1

      Make sure the spool valve moves freely. If I have one that feels like it’s not moving freely through its bore. I’ll gently sand it with 2000 grit sand paper. Doesn’t always fix it but some times does.
      The part that can be damaged due to low fuel pressure is the plunger under the large spring. I’ll sand the edges of the plunger lightly with 2000 sand paper. Other then that just inspect everything.

    Hey man good stuff, but please don't sand down the plunger of the intensifier body like you did early in this video. The only thing preventing diesel fuel from diluting your oil is the clearance between the plunger and body. The clearance is less than 1/50th the width of a human hair. Double the clearance increases the dilution exponentially. This is an engine killer over time even though the injector will work just fine.

      @@showmerepair you are welcome. While you can rebuild these injectors, and it might be cost effective for someone on a budget and time, it doesn't replace a proper reman. The machined components do wear, particularly the spool in the control valve. They need remachining to very tight tolerances to restore lost horsepower and torque. I've seen upto 40-50 hp recovery on a stock engine by replacing worn out injectors.

  • @jermbob92

    Thanks for the great instructional video. Have any of the injectors you’ve rebuilt needed new nozzles due to age or are they all simply covered in carbon and needing a soak in solvent?

    • @showmerepair
      @showmerepair  4 роки тому +1

      Jeremy O I have heard of nozzles cracking but have not seen them personally. I did rebuild an injector the other day the was misfiring under load at times. It was better after I rebuilt it but still showed on my IDS power balance that it was still weak when driving. The internals of the injector looked great. I replaced that injector with a Ford reman. I suspect it was a nozzles since both times I removed that injector it had wet fuel hanging off the nozzles when pulled from engine. Though the fuel is supplied through the head and when removing the injector it could have ran down the body of the injector.
      I just don’t remember seeing it on the other injectors.

      The only thing that is keeping me from offering this to customers is running them on a flow bench. I’ve done this for myself and friends. Then installed them in the truck to make sure everything is working properly. I would not want to rebuild an injector and send it to someone to install themself with out running on a flow bench. Running on a flow bench would at least let me know the injector was operating correctly when I sent it out.
