Alcohol is my downfall. It destroys your life and takes away everything. Been in recovery for over 20 years but have had a few falls due to Major Depressive Disorder. I look at friends I used to drink with in my 20’s and they look like they’ve aged in dog years.

I've never heard of this. As someone who has recovered from substance issues, I really think our society would benefit if we can find a balance of mild options for people. Other than just "alcohol". I really think issues would improve if people had mild options in our society compared to right now where everything is bad, it creates a climate where people go to extreme lengths to get/obtain any kind of relief. Where that shouldn't be the situation that we have going on.. we gotta find a way to balance somethings and understand it can impact the overall substance abuse issue problem in the greater population as a whole. It may seem counter intuitive but it's unrealistic to think that "providing no options for people will eliminate the issue" that's clearly not the outcome that occurs and we have been learning that for years and years now. Hopefully we can find a improved direction to head in and a better approach towards handling this issue.

Dr B. I struggled with Heroin, Alcohol,Crack, K2 & benzo addiction for 25yrs and by the grace of God 3yrs ago I found Recovery. I probably tried to get Sober 25times. My Addiction got worse n worse and I fully believe addiction is progressive and fatal. The last 15 yrs of my active addiction where really bad. I was homeless, 140lbs(I'm usually 240), had shingles on my head, hep c, septic infection in my ankle and I was in the worst emotional, mental, and physical pain I could possibly be. I was going through bad psychosis towards the end of my active addiction and at some points was even confused on what my name was. I had a very spiritual experience that expelled the "obsession" of using and gave me a glimmer of hope. Alot of great things have happened for me in the past 3yrs. I have become certified in NY as a CARC(Certified Addiction Recovery Coach) and Peer Advocate. I do not work in a facility but have grown my own coaching Business through social media and word of mouth. I have found Passion and fulfillment in life where the addiction left a hole in my soul. I know from personal experience that if I can get Sober, anyone can. I rarely come across someone who has experienced as much loss, trauma and pain as I endured. 12-step(AA) Recovery is a big part of my Recovery and I am a big advocate for ppl having a program to use to get them on the right track, especially when it comes to making a spiritual connection. I believe the spiritual aspect of Recovery gets over looked a lil when it comes to treatment. To be honest, right now none of the ppl I Coach follow 12step Recovery but I do try to help them understand the spiritual principles associated w the steps and help them implement the principles into their lives if they are willing. I try my best to remain teachable and open-minded when it comes to addiction and recovery. I learn so much from you and your channel. I am so grateful to have come across you and your views and facts on addiction and recovery. My channel is geared towards those in Recovery who really want to strive for success in all aspects of life, cause putting down the drugs and alcohol is only 10% of recovery, the other 90% is changing our attitude and behaviors and for me, that came through working the 12 steps and becoming really active in Recovery. My change came through Pain. I needed to experience all the pain n misery I did to get me to the point of surrendering. My question is do you think that someone can fully recover from Addiction if they haven't really experienced any consequences or real pain(whether emotional, mental, or physical)??? Also we have a Podcast, me n my amazing girlfriend Veronica, the SoberSuccess 🎙️ Podcast,it's on UA-cam, Spotify and all platforms. I would absolutely love to have you on my show for an interview in the future if that would be possible??? Thanks again Dr. B for all the videos and information, you Help me on a Daily Basis... I'm a 57 yr old addict in recovery and I never heard of this? I've been therapeutically detoxing from methadone ( 17mgs and counting down) after about 9 years of of methadone maintenance and before that opiate addiction/abuse. I feel lucky I sought treatment before the fentanyl epidemic and all the other "Designer drugs" out now. I've seen so many young people die and OD and I don't judge because I know if you're going through withdrawals ( IF I WAS FKN DOPE SICK) I'd be fast to take something to feel normal. But I see these people nodding out, homeless, destitute and many in their 20s!
With God's help and support I hope to be done with the methadone ASAP and am grateful it's available but so many kids got on methadone treatment for a Vicodin, Percocet, ECT addiction.... People that are addicted to Vicodin can use methadone successfully however, I agree they should be on very very low doses compared to the Vicodin and yes, methadone clinics are notorious for over prescribing methadone. The methadone is a great medication for somebody in detox, if given the right amount, and they are tapered off of it. I'll just stick with kratom. Kratom got me off pain meds for my spinal injuries I sustained in the Army. It's great. I have been on kratom for 2 years now. I don't wake up feeling like shit anymore. I've been able to workout again since I made the switch to kratom. It sucked for a couple weeks because its a partial opioid receptor agonist and I had some withdrawal while making the switch but it's literally been a life changer for me. I know you can still OD on kratom but hell you can OD on Tylenol and even water.
    Edit:
I don't suggest anyone take kratom unless they are already on pain meds or opioids and want to get off of them. Its kind of like Suboxone for addicts who want to get off opioids except it works for people who suffer with chronic pain and want to get off opioids. Though kratom has also helped many addicts quit heroin and fentanyl. The powers that be want it outlawed because it's causing huge losses to big pharma and pharmaceutical companies would like to make a medical patient using kratom so they can make money off it themselves. They don't care about anyone's health so take negative things you read on kratom with a grain of salt. You never know who's behind it.

I've been on Kratom for over 8 years and it's a lifesaver. Have gone on several occasions without it and the withdrawal is not even in the same ballpark as opiates, although there were a few companies caught adding tramadol to their products for better pain killing properties so it's possible there were other "additives" more than likely causing the hard withdrawal for some. I used around 500 grams of tianeptine from 2014 to 2016, for hyperacusis and trigeminal neuralgia pain alleviation and it's neuroplasticity enhancing effects and neuroprotection. I went through cold turkey withdrawal around a dozen times from it and it did give me an opioid high, at doses of 75mg and over taken. I began using it right a couple months before a research paper came out in July 2014 that it hits the opioid receptors. Initially it caused me also constipation to a degree of appendicitis that actually ruptured.

Tianeptine (Stablon, Coaxil, Tatinol). Tianeptine satisfies criteria for making it a nootropic: builds neuroplasticity; is neuroprotective and an excellent antioxidant. It has an excellent safety profile. Remarkably, tianeptine acts as an extraordinary anti-inflammatory and thus used in applications ranging from asthma, irritable bowel disorder to fibromyalgia. All that for the price of admission! It’s also indicated in addiction & withdraws, narcolepsy and some forms of ALS.
Europeans have a number of psychotropic compounds available to them that, for corporate protectionism by US Federal bureaucrats, they will probably never be able to use in the United States. Another "French" option is amineptine's cousin, tianeptine (Stablon). Tianeptine is an atypical antidepressant that exhibits structural similarities to the tricyclic antidepressants but has distinct neurochemical properties. It exhibits impressive wide-reaching biological effects and is now used in the treatment of depression , depression with erectile dysfunction, treatment-resistant depression , depression with alcoholism, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). What makes it particularly notable is its tolerability and excellent safety profile , with a relative lack of sedative, anticholinergic and cardiovascular adverse effects. It is not primarily metabolized by the hepatic cytochrome P450 system, indicating less likelihood of drug-drug interactions; this is of particular interest for elderly patients.
In summary, tianeptine shows efficacy against serious depressive episodes (major depression), comparable to amitriptyline, imipramine, sertraline (Zoloft) , paroxetine (Paxil) and fluoxetine (Prozac), but with significantly fewer side effects. It was shown to be more effective than maprotiline in a group of people with co-existing depression and anxiety. Like many antidepressants (including bupropion, the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, the serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, moclobemide and numerous others) it may also have a beneficial effect on cognition in people with depression-induced cognitive dysfunction. Tianeptine has been found to be effective in depression in Parkinson's disease and in post-traumatic stress disorder of which it was as safe and effective as fluoxetine (Prozac) and moclobemide. “The antidepressant efficacy and favourable tolerability and pharmacokinetic profiles of tianeptine in patients with depression, including those with associated anxiety, have been proven; the data indicate that it may have additional potential in specific subgroups of depressed patients such as the elderly and those with chronic alcoholism ”
Tianeptine works by central neuronal remodeling and the restoration of neuronal plasticity . Like many other Nootropics, it is neuroprotective, acts as a powerful antioxidant in the CNS, and has been shown to protect the brain from radiation-induced damage. In one study, it was shown to enhance inter-hemispheric communication & thus, creativity; whereas the SSRI fluoxetine (Prozac) impairs it!
Tianeptine also has anticonvulsant and analgesic effects, and a clinical trial in Spain that ended in January 2007 has shown that tianeptine is effective in treating pain due to fibromyalgia. Notably, tianeptine also exhibits antinociceptive effects & anti-inflammatory properties: “Adrenergic transmission is also involved in tianeptine-induced analgesia for both facilitated and acute pain. The combination of tianeptine and cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor may provide additional benefits for the management of inflammatory pain. ” Specific success has been discovered in using tianeptine to protect against HIV-associated dementia by suppressing the pro-inflammatory effects of the HIV virus. Some studies report tianeptine’s ability to attenuate oxidative stress within crucial brain structures and have a protective effect against stress-induced neuronal damage & remodeling including the inhibition of pathological stress-induced changes in glutamatergic neurotransmission in the amygdala and hippocampus.
Microdialysis studies revealed that tianeptine increased the levels of 5-HT and NE in the spinal dorsal horn [These are nociceptor afferents for the reception of peripheral pain]. These findings suggest that tianeptine may be effective for the management of neuropathic pain and that its analgesic mechanism is exerted by increased levels of 5-HT and NE in the synaptic cleft at the spinal level.
Neuroprotective effects are a key parameter of the Nootropic treatment model. Tianeptine is a neuroprotective antidepressant that reverses the neuronal damage and lasting misery caused by uncontrolled stress. Chronic stress causes dysphoria by inducing corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF2) receptor stimulation of dynorphin release. The endogenous opioid peptide dynorphin activates the unpleasant kappa opioid receptors. Tianeptine acts both as a non-sedating anti-anxiety agent and a non-stimulating mood-brightener. Its use increases extracellular dopamine concentration in the nucleus accumbens and, at higher doses, in the frontal cortex. Uniquely in clinical medicine, tianeptine acts as a selective serotonin reuptake enhancer; other systems have concluded it affects the glutamatergic system.
One biochemical investigation determined that the beneficial underlying biochemical changes - enhancements to neuroplasticity - are more complete following tianeptine treatment than they are following treatment with SSRI’s. Neuroplasticity refers to the ability of neurons and neural networks in the brain to adjust functionally and structurally to stimulation, new information, damage, and dysfunction. Tianeptine therapy increases hippocampal neurogenesis and decreases hippocampal apoptosis, and chronic tianeptine treatment may prevent shrinkage of dendrites in the hippocampus and growth of dendrites in the amygdala.
Only after psychiatric medicine evolved past the older monoamine paradigm and began to appreciate the Nootropic effects upon neuroplasticity did this drug start to make sense. Like Nootropic styled antidepressants, tianeptine's therapeutic action presumably depends on downstream adaptations & eventually growth between and within mesocorticolimbic system neurons occurring over a period of several weeks. Chronic tianeptine use reverses stress-induced hippocampal dendritic atrophy and amygdaloid dendritic hypertrophy, and stress-induced damage to the prefrontal cortex, thereby rewiring key brain systems and increasing cognitive performance. Like other good nootropics, the efficacy of tianeptine is largely related to a promotion of synaptic plasticity. This may be achieved by regulating the excitatory amino acid systems that are responsible for changes in the strength of synaptic connections as well as enhancing brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression.
Tianeptine restores stress-induced reduction of dendritic arborization in hippocampal neurons. Moreover, tianeptine reverses stress-induced inhibition of long-term potentiation at excitatory synapses in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex. …tianeptine is an efficacious µ-opioid receptor (MOR) and d-opioid receptor (DOR) agonist…
Several studies concluded that tianeptine acts as a serotonin reuptake enhancer; or Selective Serotonin Reuptake Enhancer (SSRE) . In contrast to most SSRIs and tricyclic antidepressants, tianeptine modestly enhances the mesolimbic release of dopamine and potentiates CNS D2 and D3 receptors. It has an anxiolytic effect because it has a dibenzodiazepine nucleus. , It can also inhibit stress-induced neuronal changes in the central nervous system.
      Currently, tianeptine is also being used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea & ulcerative colitis having proved itself in both efficacy and tolerability. Tianeptine treatment attenuates ethanol withdrawal syndrome in ethanol addiction , and helps overcome neuronal damage to the CNS and mollify pain associated with morphine withdrawal. It has also successfully treated narcolepsy ; cognitive impairment, depression & anxiety in the elderly; depression in Parkinson’s patients; the familial form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (FALS); attention-deficit hyperactivity syndrome (ADHD);
Tianeptine has also been found to be very effective in the treatment of asthma. A 52-week study with asthmatic children found great success in ameliorating symptoms and increasing lung function. Two years earlier, they had found a close, positive association between free serotonin in plasma and severity of asthma in symptomatic persons. As tianeptine was the only agent known to both reduce free serotonin in plasma and enhance uptake in platelets, they decided to use it to see if reducing free serotonin levels in plasma would help. By November 2004, there had been two double-blind placebo-controlled crossover trials and a >25,000 person open-label study lasting over seven years, all showing effectiveness.
Because it is chemically similar to amineptine, liver enzyme tests might be warranted. However, this author can find now credible evidence of hepatotoxicity. A recent analysis demonstrated where SSRI’s typically fails in the treatment of depression, tianeptine succeeds. But the precise molecular mechanisms are obscure. Tianeptine/Stablon is not licensed in North America primarily because its patent has expired thus prohibiting the massive corporate price exploitation indicative to doing business in the USA. In other words, Tianeptine cuts into the profits of more expensive drugs currently on patent.

Thank you for actually talking about the neuropharmacology of the substance. I have seen many "medical" videos about it but they never bother mentioning the actually important information - does it hit opioid receptors, which ones, etc. I wouldn't call them "opiate" receptors any more, though, as we know of multiple compounds that bind to the same receptors that have nothing to do with opium poppies. And things like mitragynine (in kratom) are agonists of multiple opioid receptors while being an antagonist of mu receptors which significantly changes its danger level. I'm less worried about mu agonists being addictive than I am about the fact its the mu opioid receptor that can suppress breathing and substantially increase risk of death from stopping respiration. I was curious about tianeptine but it actually sounds like bad news. Thanks for the real information!

Luckily I ran out after 3 weeks and within hours I Knew NOPE… this is Worse than Dope no bs! I had to go to the ER bcus of it… both my girlfriend and I did. The dr was receptive and interested but couldn’t prescribe a protocol for the wd so we had to just ruff it after they said our vitals would be ok. The BEST thing that started to happen was the sites going down… powder city stopped bcus a kid died from it. And now they have All the southern states Flooded with it in the gas stations right after they made Kratom illegal… they just created a bunch of new addicts that will go to fent or the suboxone dr…. The government knows what it’s doing and it’s soooo fkd up. Just research the old reddits about why it is still in a certain state…. 💵

Ok, I wouldn't have commented because I personally am a advocate for easy access to Tianeptine. I like Tianeptine among other things like LSD and psilocybin and weed. So yeah, I'm a drug user. Have been for 25+ years. The reason I'm commenting is because I've noticed a disturbing trend lately. Now, like I say, I'm for certain drugs. But I didn't make it 25 years doing this crap by being stupid and just mixing anything and everything together. I also went to school and got a degree in pharmaceutical chemistry. So I have a deeper understanding of a bad trend when I see one. I'm seeing products now that mix Tianeptine with Kratom extract. Most of the deaths from kratom have been because some poor sap mixed it with something and died. Well with Tianeptine being a full mu-opioid receptor agonist and also affecting serotonin, there isn't anything good going to come from this mix. Not to mention that the mu-opioid antagonist activity of mitraginine cancels out the effects of Tianeptine on me personally and should on everyone. So the pharmacology behind this mix is flawed even so it's a rip off in my opinion but dang, don't be mixing crap with Tianeptine. The ZaZa makers mix enough crap with it. Me myself I buy pure Tianeptine from a chemical vendor. Screw all this dumb crap.

This stuff is an absolute nightmare and hellish existence. I’m so glad the word is being spread. 4 years ago my girlfriend’s mom was buying kratom online and the seller started throwing in free samples of tianeptine sodium dissolved in water put into dropper bottles. She was told it was a “natural kratom product” She gave it to my girlfriend to try because she has severe PTSD from childhood trauma and suffers from crippling anxiety and depression. At that time it wasn’t uncommon for her to go months without stepping foot out of the house. The first time she started taking the tianeptine it was night and day difference because it is an anti depressant. We were going out, she was doing things just for fun but after 5 or 6 months I’d say the focus of both their lives started shifting to only making sure they could buy more and it would come in the mail in time. They had the withdrawals but we’re mild enough they thought they were just sick. Over the past 4 years it’s gotten worse and worse. I started taking it soon after those first 5 or 6 months because I was working a ton of hours and it gave me energy. In those 4 years we found out it was tianeptine and I could order the powder online. We lost our apartment. I couldn’t miss the work to go detox because we had to have it come every certain day of every week. It’s a hell. The withdrawals are so unbelievably horrible. I just recently got off outpatient with suboxone but my girlfriend has the sever mental health problems and the withdrawals give her different mental issues than I ever dealt with. We’re living with a family member of mine that’s extremely difficult to deal with. I’m finally starting to be able to save but we sold almost all our possessions over these 4 years to fund this and are starting to build up some of those. If you’re only a couple months into to taking this please do whatever it takes to get off. It gets harder and harder as time goes by

I'm curious as far as possible benefits; When w/drawaling from opiates diamorphine/fentanyl/etc- Could this possibly have a benefit in that scenario? For instance, the only thing that really helps Fent W/Drawal is Methadone; an arguably worse opioid that can put you into _shock_ if stopped. You really don't wanna take it more than 7 days while tapering, which is still agonizing. Could this possibly help people that don't want to get addicted to Mdone & can use this @ a low dose supplement to help during the W/D. Another problem w/Mdone is it's long acting, so to switch over to Suboxone can be _dangerous._ I hope if this might be an option to ease the suffering of opiate W/D . *_Thoughts?_*

I’m two months off the stuff and man I’ll never go back to that junk, even if you gave me a lifetime supply of it. Never. Again.

I build a tolerance to it and yes, what started as a way to help my anxiety, you don't realize how much are dosing because it's just a white crystalline powder. It's sold as Stablon as an anti-depressant in Europe.
What saved me from this? JESUS CHRIST, the great physician. All the glory and power goes to him. Folks, it's been how long and I am still trying to get off Suboxone. I'm down to 4mg sl daily. If it wasn't for the Suboxone and Jesus Christ leading me to it, I really do think Tianeptine sodium would have taken my life with. Sin has its consequences. I have been on Buprenorphine/suboxone treatment for opiate/opioid addiction. I used pain pills, heroin, and fentanyl for well over 13 years after a back injury. Since I went into treatment 3 years and 7 mo ths ago, I found out I had Bipolar II Disorder, as well as PTSD, brain injuries on top of a Chiari Malformation, and I needed rods put in my lower back, and may need fusions in my neck. The Suboxone that I take seems to work well with my depression if I take less than a full dose. I have noticed that it will make my moods better, but I thought it was just a placebo affect. I thought I was experiencing withdrawal symptoms and thats why it made me feel better, but I truly think it helps with my Venlefaxin and other meds meant for my bipolar and PTSD.
There was a study done for emergency rooms a while back where they said in a dire situation an opiate can reduce anxiety, or aggression in a manic/hypomanic patient if benzos werent available. I wonder if the Suboxone study happened after that? Its an interesting topic. Turns out all the things I was using drugs to cope with were all medical issues and not just to party lol.

Tianeptine in continental Europe is antidepressant ( quite good) ..Of course in appropriate dosage. People discovered it works in higher dose on opioid receptor and abuse it 🙈. (I think its mainly used in France under name " Coaxil" and " Stablon")
