2:22 what the eff is this?? Watched it like 20 times out of the entire set, this one is the most nuts, I've never seen this kind of art before, it's incredible. It's like my brain is on fire trying to comprehend the beauty
This is a huge oversimplification as I’m not an animator but it seems like a 3d animation emulating 2d animation techniques. The first thing you notice is the lowered frame rate, which is common in handmade 2d animation because animators need to essentially redraw every moving asset for each frame, which takes up a lot of time compared to just using a 3d model and rigging it and moving the camera (which also allows for more smoothness). The next thing i notice is the shading, it highlights bright reflections and darkens the shadows making a large contrast between colors/lighting. In some animation styles, lighting/coloring effects are done like this where each object is made of specific colors with minimal detail to shading or blending which gives a really stylized look compared to the realistic lighting of 3d animation. Finally there’s rotoscoping, where in some frames the animator draws over the image to highlight certain parts like the edges or tires of the car.
Also, the car is a Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R, which is one of my favorite cars of all time. If you want to know what the style is emulating, it’s def inspired by 80s/90s cyberpunk along with anime (like Akira, blade runner, ghost in the shell)
Congrats to everyone, these are incredible!! 6:12 Genuinely shocked I made top 100 of Clint's new render challenge! I was out with friends celebrating Ireland winning the grand slam in Rugby and would check in every now and again into the reveal livestream for a few seconds but stopped then as I never assumed I'd ever make it to top 100 so I'm gutted I wasn't even around to see it live hahaha I started this four days before the deadline and my only takeaway was how happy I was with how much I was able to do in those four days, but to see that I've made top 100 as well has completely stunned me. I genuinely never thought I was top 100 worthy after seeing so many incredible renders across such a wide array of various styles. With how little time I was able to give myself I was so disappointed to not have drastic improvements including some smear-frames, impact-frames, and mesh-trails. I even had mesh-trails done but they weren't held out on the proper render layer and didn't have enough time for another render so I had to not include them, which was really unfortunate as they made the missile and sword arc-motions a lot easier to convey what was happening with the missile turnaround and hitting the bad guy. I'm really glad that despite these big drawbacks I was still able to apply some semblance of time management to myself and get some compositing done hahaha So for animation, everything was animated normally, and I then baked each characters animation. Following that, I would remove frames where I thought necessary, in order to achieve that anime 2D feel. Each character had their own mixed frame rates on a mixture of 1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s. There were some 2D mesh flipbook effects I wanted to add in a lot of places but didn't give myself enough time for them and, as a result, everything in the shot is 3D, no 2D elements were used for achieving a more 2D like feel which I'm glad that I was able to somewhat achieve! And yes, the Akira bike slide makes no sense but little makes sense when concerning anime physics, so I'll let it... _slide..._ (end me) Cheers again to everyone involved at every level! Clint, you and your moderators have fostered a great community on discord and I've met so many incredible people as a result of it, thank you so much to you and everyone involved! ❤
Incredible what you can do in 4 days! Your render adds such a great nostalgic flare to the montage and fits perfectly with those jazz chords! Congrats mate!
@@pwnisher Cheers Clint! I love how well the timing of the beat goes with it as well! I'm so glad I can see how much I've progressed over the past year compared to the four days I spent on Infinite Journeys last year, still can't believe I was able to get that much done but I guess the determination and lack of sleep paid off in the end hahaha Cheers again Clint, it was so much fun chatting in the discord voice chats and getting to know everyone and having their passion for creating reinvigorating myself each time I was tired. I learnt so much and I'm ecstatic I pushed myself so much now! ❤
Ayo another goo engine enjoyer, congrats! I'm in the exact same boat lol. Didn't think I stood a chance so I didn't catch the livestream until my friend who was watching it told me I made top 100 (3:22). I also baked my animation and took out frames so that it was a mix of 1s 2s and 3s (albeit mostly 2s), and had plans for other 2d effects but realized I didn't have time to dedicate to them towards the end... we just might be doppelgangers lmao

I don’t think enough people are talking about the ghostbuster one like it’s incredible (4:28) but all the artists did amazing, I keep coming back to watch!
Personally, I'm surprised that no one has mention how good the tonal shift of the music is, from a beat that you would usually hear in a asphalt game to a more dark tone, and finally end it off with a light hearted tone. Clearly this video was more about the animation, but man I gotta the composer credit for making such a brilliant song;)
Do you have a link for the song? They link the artist in the description but I can't find this particular song anywhere. EDIT: It looks like this might be the "official song" in a way as it was made for the video. Very cool
I have high respect for people that make these. I just tried out blender recently and realized how time consuming it is just to even make a simple house/building. Seeing people make things with high detail and amazing animations are so amazing and I wish to reach this skill level eventually.
And it's finally here! Congratulations to everyone who participated and leveled up their skills this challenge. Thanks Clint again for hosting. Honoured to be included at 8:17 Can't wait to see the mammoth 6/7 hr all renders montage.

Everything is brilliant and blows my puny, little brain and it's almost impossible pick a favorite but I do want to call attention to Matt Landkroon's render at 8:17. The scale and movement of the "monster" along with the camera work is absolutely stunning! Also, shoutout to Casey Edwards! The music was insane! The best moment has to be that subtle cut out at 4:12 when everything is in a pre-rendered stage then goes into full render with the music cutting back in. Oddly, there's no artist name on that render, which is also incredible.
The quality level of these renders is absolutely insane. I would love to see you attempt to make an animated short film using the same production methodology.

i absolutely ADORE the style of 0:37! David Mellor did an absolutely amazing job with this!
Yep! It somehow looked to me like a fan animation of some video game, but I don't think it was and it was probably inspired by one or more real games.

If you look closely it's actually John Wick
yeah! it was my favorite

Congrats to everyone, these are incredible!!
6:12 Genuinely shocked I made top 100 of Clint's new render challenge! I was out with friends celebrating Ireland winning the grand slam in Rugby and would check in every now and again into the reveal livestream for a few seconds but stopped then as I never assumed I'd ever make it to top 100 so I'm gutted I wasn't even around to see it live hahaha
I started this four days before the deadline and my only takeaway was how happy I was with how much I was able to do in those four days, but to see that I've made top 100 as well has completely stunned me.
I'm really glad that despite these big drawbacks I was still able to apply some semblance of time management to myself and get some compositing done hahaha
So for animation, everything was animated normally, and I then baked each characters animation.
_slide..._ (end me)
Cheers again to everyone involved at every level!
Bro you're a fucking monster, congrats.
@@pwnisher Cheers Clint! I love how well the timing of the beat goes with it as well! I'm so glad I can see how much I've progressed over the past year compared to the four days I spent on Infinite Journeys last year, still can't believe I was able to get that much done but I guess the determination and lack of sleep paid off in the end hahaha
Cheers again Clint, it was so much fun chatting in the discord voice chats and getting to know everyone and having their passion for creating reinvigorating myself each time I was tired.
@@tuthures5824 Hahaha cheers Tuthures!! I'm often told I'm too hard on myself but I hope to push myself far beyond what I'm capable of currently! And for everyone else who's also really hard on themselves, remember to be kind to yourself along the way, it makes all the difference! ❤

@@Sailower Thank you, that's good to hear 😅
@@subd1v What a lot of us are wondering tho, is the cat stealing the chickens or is it saving them from something else?
@@rizalina9418 The answer to this question is different for everyone 🤠 After all, there are so many variations on where the cat is coming from, what's going on in the barn, and where he's taking them. I love 3D because you can realize endless variations of the same story that are born in your head. In the end, I settled on an ambiguous option. I hope I answered the question 😊
