For someone that claims he didn't know what he is doing, you did a great job.
Mark Alvarado thanks, I had never built anything like this before, I was just winging it!
Great craftsmanship! Makes me want to start welding and cutting!!!
i was about to say the same thing he is good at what he does
I've been quality control for industrial metal fabrication my whole career and I'm normally pretty critical of guys doing these dyi fabrication project. I think you did an amazing job on this. Simple but very well executed.
@@mrslam49 how thick was that tube?
Best invested 15+ min of my time in UA-cam
Respect
kike Vtec thanks for the kind words my friend
YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!!!
Very impressive! You made it look so easy. Thank for the video.
I couldn’t agree more, a no b.s. kind of guy, straight forward excellent video, no funky music or extra hogg wash
This man knows how to run a torch
Mike K thanks mike, I can fumble my way thru it :)
That was my thoughts exactly .... I was impressed by your torch skills definitely not his first rodeo I've seen people cut worst lines with a plasma cutter and a straight edge
Yeah, I was thinking I've never seen anyone use a torch to cut finish cuts, but man, he sure is good with it.
Yes he does.
what size pip is that
That's one Sturdy Smoker you built! I've seen others build their smokers, but your build was the best one! Accurate measurements too!
Wow, a buddy and me were literally just coming up with the idea of building a smoker like this and I decided to check UA-cam for ideas and this is pretty much spot on what we were going for. Thank you so much!
Amos Driedger, thanks for watching, good luck on your build!
Easily my favorite smoker build I've seen on UA-cam. Looks great.
Hand down the best homemade smoker i've seen! Impressive work with the torch!
It was just amazing watching you make this pit. True artistry! I wish I had your skills but Thanks for giving us the enjoyment of a true craftsman at the top of his game. You could sell these without a doubt. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this and a Master Welder at work, Thanks for the pleasure!
Nice !!
I am very impressed with how you use the torch to cut freehanded, especially cutting circles and shapes. Great job building! Thanks for sharing the build and show us how you cook!
If I tried cutting free hand like this, there'd be violent jagged edges everywhere lol
Fantastic work! This is exactly why good thick smokers are expensive. lots of hours/thought went into that.
So glad I saw your video. You are an excellent fabricator. Wonderful project. The wheels blew me away.
Every second of this video screams TALENT, sir! And that smoker turned out freakin GREAT! Thank you so much for sharing this video!!!
One of the best DIY grill building I've ever seen
Great job , I built my offset 15years ago and I love it saw it in Texas told myself I’ve got to have one.Need a grate for your wood and coals to burn on to save you offset and gets better air flow .
1/2 13 expanded works good for that.
Love your skills! There's nothing better than that sound of your MIG gun when you have your heat dialed in. That's a fine looking smoker! You'll have decades of great food coming from that.
This was a pleasure to watch. I totally understand why high quality smokers run high in price. Very labor intensive. Great work!
Your cutting torch skills are impressive! I made the jump to plasma years ago, but was never even close to that good with oxy/acetylene. The damper is genius, too.
Christopher Zawistowski thanks man, I’d like to have a plasma but theres always something else to spend money on! Haha that’s how it goes, sometimes just gotta use what you got.
@@mrslam49 Plasma can be great but a good oxy-acetylene can't be beat for versatility and reliability.
Agreed, it was so good I assumed plasma. Had to go back and watch to confirm it was oxy. Damn, I wish I could cut like that with an oxy or plasma.
It is SO nice to see someone who knows how to do stuff right. The design is perfect, it just screams quality.
The torch work and welding was spot on. Kudos. Now it's my turn to finish my build.
Good sense of humor. This makes me want to sign up for welding classes at comm college across town and get better. Seriously. You did a nice job. I haven't touched a torch or welder in forever.

Work of art my friends, lets see you do a brisket on there please
That was one of the best builder videos I’ve seen not so much in every aspect of the build but in the way that you did it. I enjoyed watching every minute of it
Excellent video! I grew up welding and working metal as a part of my fathers business. We always did project builds and grills were often one of those projects. The way we kept the metal from springing was to do partial cuts first and weld the hinges on, then we cut the rest afterwards. Also its easy to see that you know your way around a welder and a torch! Only someone who has been using a torch for years could cut lines that smooth. Same could be said about your welds. I tell people if you have to use a grinder to make your welds look good you're a grinder and not a welder. Great job again thanks for sharing.
TheArchangel1906 thanks man, I don’t have extensive experience on a cutting torch. It’s what I have to work with so I learned how to use it. This type of stuff its totally hobby for me. I don’t weld, grind, or cut for a living. These are hobby grade skills. Thanks for the kind words my friend.
@@mrslam49 man you say it’s hobby grade but you could give seasoned pros a run for their money I’d reckon
You have great skill, this will be my retirement hobby. The methods are brilliant!
This is a most impressive build, and you absolutely know what the heck you are doing!
That's a good looking smoker. Good work man. Need to start working on mine now.
Shiny Insanity thanks man! Yes you are right, you need to get to work on it! Thanks for watching!
the last pit he will ever need. EVER! lol. Awesome job.
Ligit smoker my man. Dayum. Lol I'm building one right now actually, thanks for the tips. Looked gorgeous
What a way to serve your customers for your garage. As they stop by and check on vehicle’s.... I can’t imagine how much it would cost to sell this grill. I can see people enjoying the food off this grill. Great Job!!!!
Damn! Who needs a plasma cutter? That was some seriously nice torch-work!
You must work for UPS! Time is money! Well job done at your smoker. I want to be where you are at for fabrication and tool selection. Just go a Lincoln tombstone welder!
High degree of skill on display here. You should be proud!
Watching you work, pure bliss. Great job, excellent crafts shop. Respect!!
That smoker will last more than a lifetime.
Archaeologists will find in 2000 years from now.
Nice!! A smoker for the generations... :-) One day a man will say "Ya, my great grand dad made this".... :-)
Robert Kohut thanks for the kind words Robert.
One day scientists may study it! It's going to last a long time.
Excellent fab skills
Old school ways are the best ways to build
I caught some good ideas from the vid
Thanks
your atention to detail is amasing thats how you build a smoker heavy and awesome .
Cratif Good Jobs i'am from Indonesia
im always designing stuff in my head and one of my favorite things to build is a smoker. i like your design, and choice of materials. they look to be able to hold up over time and lots of heat cycles. im curious of you considered putting a slide on the bottom that you can pull out and drop your ashes from fire box. just a thought. otherwise, i like the build, great skill with a torch. look forward to seeing what else you come up with. good job Erocks Garage!
I build stuff in my head too. Have already thought up the ultimate Rocket stove with larger combustion chamber with improved air flow (even fan forced turbo), ash drawer removal whilst still cooking and making multiple attachments for the top including flat plate, open grille, Wok Burner, pizza oven and smoker. Flat plate and open grill would take Webber Q plates, pizza oven and smoker would be smaller pre bought ones and made to attach to the top. Also Water boiler chimney attachment. Watching many how to make you tube vids does this. Only thing is now I have to make the damn thing, LOL.
@@Jpgundarun i look forward to seeing this multi purpose rig completed. good luck. we both know it will be worth it !!
@@beardedlogic101 Shit, just started watching Welding table videos. Here we go again.
Fantastic job. The freehand cutting was a pleasure to watch.
You metal work skills are impeccable! Good work my friend
I really liked how you made this, I live in Austin and wanted to know if I can buy one and for what price
Well, it’s definitely not gonna blow away .
Larry Woolford no doubt, I’ve had to use a cherry picker to load it in the back of a pickup truck! Bitch is HEAVY
Best DIY Pit smoker build video instructions I've ever seen. Congratulations mate!
Marcel Leite Vital thanks Marcel!
omg... that's amazing. I need one of these. I have a bunch of different sized pressure water tanks. Not as big as that one, but should be able to fumble something together. Great video.
Wow! This is awesome!! Would love to build something like this. How much did it cost you in material?
Probably 1500 in metal no tools
TheSmokyCompadre wrong, I had about 600-700 dollars in materials.
Where did you get the pipe from. I would love to build one myself but have no idea how do you obtain that size of pipe.
I went to a local supplier that sells pipe and they had it in stock. I am in Oklahoma tho so it may not be the same everywhere else.
what size diameter and thicknesa
Great job. Watching u reminds me of how my dad does all his builds. No diagrams or blueprints just experience and skill. Great job. I'm jealous along with everyone else I'm sure.
lol, "Some Assembly Required" classic! You are a skilled & talented fabricator & the end result is Amazing.
I don't really know what im doing..... then whips out the oxy and runs perfect lines.
Iron Bridge Homestead ha, maybe I am my own worst critic but I’d prefer cleaner lines than I have!
No shit. Looks like he used a plasma cutter.
@@mrslam49 On flat surfaces you can use an angle iron as a guide, helps keep the lines tight. Going around a tube, tho, I dunno. Anything flexible enough to conform to the curve would just melt.
ok so here is the question? would you build that exact smoker again for someone and how much would it cost?
Christian briggs I would probably change a few things knowing what I know now. But yes. A lot.
Erocks Garage well from your video I can see that you would change the placement of the temp gauge. Lol but the craftsmanship is awesome. I’m looking to buy a smoker. Would it be less then 3,000 or more?
Erocks Garage I would def be willing to buy that same one with your changes if your willing to make one. Depending on where you are located. I am in Houston Texas
Christian briggs way less man. Half that.
Erocks Garage well if your willing to experiment on a new one with whatever changes you wanted to do. I would be willing to pay ya. Your smoker is awesome.
All I can say is WOW and Outstanding!! That's some amazing workmanship and an awesome cooker!!!!
Mark McCutcheon hey thanks Mark!
Absolute machine with a torch!and the wirefeed welds looked like multipass. Wow
How much to sell your smoker or build the same one?? I’m serious.
@reid ob 3000 for a piece of junk🤣🤣🤣🤣
If you know how to cook, it doesn't matter what kind of smoker you use, like the Rock said ( If you want to smell what the Rock is cooking ) good stuff.
Would you be interested in selling that or building me one?
Your torch work is next level buddy. Awesome build!
Carpentry and plumbing I have done. But other than 8th grade metal shop (in 1985) I've not done any sort of welding. This is the one trade I'd honestly go back to school for in a heartbeat if I had time to. Found this vid by chance...because BBQ is something I actually do. And this video makes me appreciate the craftsmanship that went into my own backyard pit all the more. And also justifies the price tag one sees on the good ones. ;-)
Same here. Did electrical at a tech high school around 1989 and now I’m a microbiologist??!! Go figure. Anyway I have been thinking about welding classes because of these great offset builds I’ve seen online. However, the price tags for smokers are way to steep! I’m thinking about buying cheap Harbor Freight equipment and going to town on a smoker.
thats one fine BBQ / smoker. bang up job and a great video, and your right some of that stuff is just hard to film but its just fine.great job.the fabrication is beautiful hope to see it painted.
Awesome video and perfect timing to see it as I'm about to make my own smoker. You have some skills!
super clean work and nice free-styled blueprint.... good job man !!
Job well done... Perfect size for needs. Thanks for posting this.
Nice work. You should be very proud of this. I like that you made the firebox door open all the way to the bottom, which makes it real easy to remove ash.
CRAZY steady torch skills. Well done, subscribed!
Nice to see someone that can weld and use a touch. Nice work.
Best bbq on the internet. Thanks for sharing.
Dude this thing one of the best I have seen
This Smoker is the best home made one I have watched yet! By Far!!!! Nice Work My Friend!!! 👍👍
Seriously great build!! Thanks for sharing.
Badass man. Quality build & excellent craftsmanship.
Man, I'd love to have such a well made pit. Excellent job.
Very nice most people wont appreciate the time it takes to make a smoker like this you are the real deal enjoy

Wow! I would buy one of your smokers in an instant. Excellent craftsmanship and great video.
This Gentleman is a terrific craftsman!
ive been called a artist with a torch but you sir have me beat great video thanks for the heads up releasing the spring tension on the housing
incredible welds, and what a soft touch with that torch
Great job man, seriously this smoker is perfect!
Great metal worker and a beautiful smoker. I love the wheel fab
Impressive, great steady hands and an awesome BBQ pit!
Great idea for the pipe springing problem!! I hit the sub button just so your videos would come up. Super looking build. Great editing. Thanks again 👍🇨🇦🍻🥓
Nice smoker build vid, enjoyed watching this. Great job..
Great to see you welding the hinges on after slitting the first cut it does give perfect hinge alignment
Never underestimate a tradesman's ability to adapt and overcome! Great Job!
Awesome!! I just finished doing almost the exact same build ... I wish I could have seen this video before I cut the door in my cook chamber ..... I was not at all expecting it to spring open lol ... I was able to compensate with the flat bar and just welded it solid to the door ... I don’t have a torch so I had to cut it all with a 4.5 inch cut off wheel .... I have to say seeing how clean your turns out make me want to do another with new metal ... almost all of mine was built from scrap stuff that I scrounged up ... good job man👍🏻
right on man! some times you just have to use what you have and make it work. i used some old metal in this build too, all of the round pipe legs were old oilfield pipe i had in the yard! i had to clean it up to make it look decent though, it was rusty and pitted pretty bad in some spots but heck no one ever knew unless i told them haha! some other stuff like the chiminey was all rusted up and the rebar for the spokes i scrounged up too. it all looks new in the video but thats because i cleaned it up first. good ol elbow grease!
You have a great touch with the torch!
That was some impressive cutting torch stuff. You’re a mighty talented fabricator
Dave Blancett thanks Dave
When mad skills meet up with a hunger for Brisket .
Awesome video and build, you better make sure you have some great grand kids because thing will be around forever.
That's the sickest smoker man! I'd pay good money for that quality and excellence! Beautiful!!
Best build I’ve seen yet brother, very methodical. You have the skill of a Mason.
Are you one
