- For this metalworking project, I build a classic offset BBQ Smoker! To start this project I used an old 80 gallon air compressor, and seeing it through to its first smoke, made this project build all the more rewarding. Enjoy!
The welders used : Lincoln MP 210 MIG, Lincoln MP140 MIG, Lincoln PowerMIG 260, Lincoln Square wave 200
Lincoln Tomahawk Plasma cutter

Hey all - Just a quick update to let you know that My Giant DiResta Razors are Now Live Here: imakeny.com/products/diresta-razor-blade
Sei bravo in tt quello che fai ma ti perdi in cazzatine. BRAVO COMUNQUE!
That is one kickass smoker. What would a price tag on something like that be?
Need a crane to get it in the back of a truck but I get it!!! Very nice if kept home.
Those angle iron tools are slick as hell.
I worked in the fab shop at a Great Lakes shipyard. We had nothing like that...wish we did!!!
link?
I didn’t know I needed those, but I do.
So nice to know a small corner of a shop could have all that and one doesn’t need an iron worker. I didn’t know some of these existed!
Yep, came here to say that. Neat as heck.
There's only one word for what you've shown us, Jimmy: artistry. Incredible, the amount of tricks and ingenuity, from the damper in the chimney to the repurposed clamp for your air inlet. Just the sheer combination of recycled parts, yet it looks purpose-built. Those were 27 dense minutes!
⚡️🙏🏼⚡️
@@jimmydiresta Agree with all that. Great ideas yadda. Are ya gonna install some kinda DIROTISSERIE? (nudge/wink) Gotta remember chickins and roasts and briskets and turkeys and such, no?
I made a similar deal in Peru from a 2' diam x 1/2" wall thickness x 3' length of steel pipe stolen from the gold mine I was workin at. Held heat excellently. And required a fork lift to move. I'm sure that expanded steel grate was NOT galvanized--zinc imparts a peculiar flavor.
The shear size and mass of this thing is impressive by itself, but the thing that always gets me with your creations is the unique mechanical mechanisms. I freaking love them! Such an amazing piece of work! Thanks for sharing!
The only known piece of BBQ equipment with its own gravitational field.
Client: So how heavy duty can you make this project?
Diresta: Yes.
Thats gonna last like 10 generations 🤣
dank meme
Lol, thàts what I was thinking. I can only imagine how much that thing must weigh.
Except for the wheels.....
9:05 😲 - Those angle iron tools are amazing. I could go for some BBQ right about now.
The engineering in this build is insane.
Does anyone know what they are called, and if anyone makes something similar today? They look incredibly useful!
@@kschleic9053 i did a quick search and didnt see anything like them. If you really want to know id say screenshot them and post in welding or machining parts of reddit
They’re blacksmithing tools. Google angle iron notcher
@@kschleic9053 Roper Whitney still make that whole 3-in-1 angle iron workstation. "NO. 455 COMBINATION ANGLE IRON SHEAR, NOTCHER, BENDER"
HOW DID I MISS THIS?!?!?!
The coolest thing watching you creations is for me the use of the old-"vintage" tools. I love that part !!!
That has to be one of the best smokers I've ever seen, great job in fabrication and assembly, makes me want to build a smaller version, for my own homestead. Thanks for sharing this!
I love watching his collection of his vintage machines do their job
🤘🏻⚡️🤘🏻⚡️🤘🏻🔥🙏🏼
Definitely, and I'm always amazed at the ridiculous number of these he owns... It's just beautiful.
I was thinking the exact same thing watching this. Kinda like watching the woodright shop growing up.
@@jimmydiresta
Yo jimmy, we need a shop vlog on your angle stock acquisition... or did I miss something somewhere.
Nope, just checked and I'm all current going back to the whirlygig
@@jimmydiresta that's a badass bbq smoker brother. You really did your research on how to make a very well made cooker. With alot of cool details that fire box is built like a tank. I love this project it's beautiful...
I lost count of how many times I thought, "Oh, that's clever.", in this video.
Is there anything Jimmy can’t build!? So much skill and talent. Watching your videos are never time wasted but time well spent. Great job once again!!!
That is a fantastic build! My son and I built a smoker a couple of years ago from an old tank, but watching this is making me want to do another one! So many nice touches and features! LOVE the insulated fire box!!!!
Jimmy: The MOST incredible build I’ve witnessed - EVER ! Just when I thought you were finished you added 25 more things that made this project EXTRAORDINARY!
Nothing says barbecue season has started like a foot of snow. It's always nice to see you be creative, Jimmy! Thank you!
This is the best smoker that I have seen of the hundreds that can be seen on youtube, all the details of the heat pass gate, the firebox with insulation to keep the heat, your smoker is fantastic, applause to the teacher
Amazing from watching the vintage tools in action to the ingenuity. Incredible build
That New York guy at the end is the most New York dude to ever have New Yorked since New York was New York.
Thank God for New York guys!
shad up ya face...
Tree fitty faw huntret
Keelbasee
This guy can do literally do everything.
accept learn to code..
Wow that was an incredible build. Loved the creativity. My favorite part was the insulator box for the wood. Going to try and replicate this build as best as I can. Thanks for the share!
Another masterclass showing what can be done with some skills, tools and imagination ! I love all the mechanical locks, latches etc. It blows my mind how he even thinks of these things........Incredible
I've seen some overbuilt smokers, yet that word seems an understatement for this one. This looks like a "mini" industrial smoker.
For real, that firebox could double as a mini bomb shelter
I loved it. You've got the best tools Jimmy. I have to say, whenever I see a notification that you have released a new video, I hold on to watch it at night time when it's the most quiet. Great work. 👍👍
I love your reciprocating power hack saw! The angle iron shear, the notcher all things I remember from years past!
Man I got to say, I have watched this video like 10 times, the amount of awesome ideas and ingenuity behind this build has givin me alot of ideas for my smoker. Just awesome! Beautiful smoker!
the pure ingenious of this man never ceases to amaze me.
This by far is one of the coolest things you've made!
Craftsmanship, expertise in metal, Its So nice watching this video over and over again. How I wish I had that kind of workshop and all those tools....envy, everything looks so easy while you're doing it. Thanks for sharing Jimmy.
I love that the fine details that I haven't seen in other vids: the variable firebox output, insolated firebox, the firebox close mechanism, the thermometers placement, and I can see that you tried to go the extra mile on everything you did. Congrats, you are a true craftsman!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you for not turning this into a 50 part series.
More audible "wow"s from me. So so cool.. and now I'm hungry.
Favorite build yet! Your welding skills have come a long way since the Lincoln factory tour. Keep up the great work and fantastic videos!
What a work of art..... so many tips I’ve picked up from watching this. Thanks Jimmy for sharing 👍👍👍👍
Potential customer : How many pounds does the smoker weigh???
Diresta probably : All of them...
The tools for cutting, notching, and bending the angle are cool.
Only you Jimmy Diresta and your motto " I MAKE " means to take the ordinary and make it beyond extraordinary. Much respect to the genius you are.
Hi Jimmy.... I love all of your videos. I truly think you are brilliant. The part I love most is what I learn from watching you and applying it to my own work. Your mechanism to lift the firebox door was amazing. Keep making! Keep inspiring!
WE ARE NOT WORTHY!!!
The Diresta giveth, but he never taketh away.
This is the 2nd time I watched this and it hit me how crazy heavy duty this bbq is compared to super thin sheet metal bbqs you get at Home Depot. Your bbq/smoker looks like it weighs a 1000lbs...nicely done. Also I loved the use of custom linkages and doors all over that thing. Sweet design! 🤙
When was the first time you watched it, cause I'm positive i watched this same video like 5 years ago
Mr Jimmy, you are just too smooth for words, the professionalism, the skill, the abilities you have, love watching you work, there are no words sir that match your skill
Amazing build Jimmy. Love the opening and closing mechanisms.
Bending those angles was the most satisfying thing I did all day. I mean, saw.
the BBQ smoker for the , man that could withstand a direct hit from a nuclear bomb 2x 👍
Mouth watering at the end. The ratcheting damper homage to an old school saw mill won me over. Heavy duty construction is fantastic. Great build Sir!
So, been watching smoker vids for a while now, cooking, building, etc..., and being from Queens, envious of everyone in Texas and other states where they have the room and culture to support this craft. Who would have known the best would come from NY! Made me proud watching this video. Whoever you learned your trade from must have been the best. Thank you!
Thank you 🙏🏼
L. E. S. ✊🏻
The genius of this man just doesn't end! He can take anything and make it functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Dude... This is one of the best projects I've seen so far... Amazing!!
Congratulations... I'm speechless... 👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼
This video contained so much awesomeness for me - so many things that I love. Thanks Jimmy, from the bottom of my heart!
It’s a weird coincidence that you are doing a tank grill project, that happens to be what I’m doing today :D
Jimmy's shop is so efficient, that he and his team have developed their own ''chipmunk'' talk. Us mere mortals can't understand it.
It's nice to see those relics at real use. Not only been exhibited in museums!
Fantastic, I've watched you for a couple of years now, & you still amaze me on some of the projects that you complete, great work Mr Diresta
In the next episode, Jimmy throws in a small block Chevy and 4 speed to move it around on the patio...and do burnouts!
I don't give too many videos a like before I'm half done but sometimes it just damn deserves it!
Plasma cutting over a metal trash can is genius! Can't tell ya how many fires I've started in my shop, going to be doing this from now on! Thanks!
Amazing build and excellent craftsmanship! Pleasure to watch the build process!! Well Done!!!👍
That hacksaw has a gizmocity factor over 9000
I think what would look cool is to fabricate a hand for the arm.
That smoke box would pass as a bank vault ;-)
This build reminds me of the bandsaw stand. Love the heavy metal and watching the lever mechanisms come together.
A true craftsman. Appreciate the vintage iron working tools
Meanwhile, Traeger looks the other way and pretends this masterpiece doesn't exist.
Keep your wifi enabled, glue pellet smoke machine. treagers are lower than propane bbq's in my book.
that was a lot of work.
so many cool ideas like the door latch, smoke gap adjustment, ....
it must have cost them few grand man
Thats the old style diresta's creation that i simply love ...
Youn are a real, REAL artist. Respect man. You can do with your hands that a lot of people can not do with their brains. In my country,
we call that a " Braai" And braai is something that we can do every day.
Watching a guy build a smoker while smoking a brisket 😁
“making the worlds heaviest, toughest grill”
Wow! I am constantly amazed by your creativity! Thank you for sharing.
I don't know much about machining but I've seen tons of smoker builds, cant believe you made such unique concepts in 2021! Awesome older style tools too. What a pleasure to watch!
When you cut through that meat I said “very nice” and the wife said “fabulous”.
Ima simple guy, I see JD with a welder and Im :>
Youre what?
@@smashyrashy .....smiling....
@@LaserGadgets right........
The great thing about your videos is that it is cool and you learn how to make something in a way you probably won't see anywhere else. Nice video
Now THIS is a classic DiResta build! Outstanding work Jimmy!
Client: Can you make me a heavy duty smoker?
Diresta: How much can your crane lift?
Huh. A metal store. I thought this stuff just grows somewhere in your shop, or bedroom, or something.
There are stores?!🤔 I just thought it came on flatbeds delivered by cranky drivers?🤣👍
@@machinist7230 Our stainless guy is the angriest person ive ever met
Possibly the most insanely beautiful offset I've ever seen!! 😍😍😍
Probably the sickest smoker I've seen built love the touches. 👌
I couldn't relate to this project until you welded the lid handle on.
Customer: When I come to pick it up what should I bring?
A Kenworth
This is probably the best pit i've Seen! Thanks a lot for Sharing your knowledge ans craftmanship!!!
Nice…all of it! Great design, well built…it makes me want to learn welding. Thank you for sharing Jimmy!
I can’t believe that you would just ruin so many beautiful old wrenches and C clamps like that. You don’t even care about old tools. (Baby Voice). 😂😂😂. Awesome build. That thing must weigh a ton.
the thing about weighing a ton is that whoever ends up with this thing is going to be able to hand it off to the grandkids.
@@markmarchand8376 definitely will be in a will someday.
@@markmarchand8376 I'm pretty sure that smoker is going to survive the expansion of the sun.
He ain't heavy, she's my smoker!
One of the most interesting and unique builds, the attention to detail is amazing, just keep modest and you’ll be ok
I don't think I've ever been as jealous of another man's tools as I am of the angle-iron specific bar cutter, notcher and folder. It's like an Ironworker but without all the hydraulics.
Thing probably weighs as much as a car, but it will definitely outlast every one of us.
Owns every efficient way to cut steel ever made, uses 100 year old power hacksaw that takes forever. Why? For the cool points. 😎
You, sir, are a true craftsman!! Beautiful build!!
That is truly one of the most beautiful well built pits in the world!!!, Well done sir!!!
Jimmy i know you've been doing this for a long time, but have you tried using a EQ to reduce the high frequency noise on those sped up sections? it may make it a little more pleasing sound wise
Nice job DiResta, nice job! My son and I enjoyed watching this build.
damn Jimmy you just broke the hearts of many a hobbyist BBQer with that beast.
When the invasion comes, I'm hiding behind that thing.
Like🇧🇷🇧🇷
I like how you took the to fireproof insulate your smoker… I tied it once in Washington state and it helps a lot during the colder months to keep the temperature steady … thank you for sharing. 🤙🏽
Wow! Great tools, some I've never seen but wish I had. Great work!
Great with one potential design flaw: wheels instead of tank treads. Just how much does this bad boy weigh?
I'm surprised he didn't make on set of wheels swivels, to make it easier to manuever...
@@machinist7230you're right, an offset smoker that size gets shuffled around pretty frequently to find the right pastrami feng shui
Nah.. then he'll set a real tank wheel
На такого монстра надо было гусеницы устанавливать. Супер.
И мотор от КамАЗ
Brilliant job, great design and loved the spanner touches.
The trick with wax and 4x4 to hold the plate inside the tube blew my mind. Awesome work as usual. 🤯
