It seems that several viewers blame a bad connector for the initial problem, and that was most likely it. The connectors in the shells look good, but I'm not going to take any action for a while to see if the problem comes back.
I have seen a DW-8000 with similar mysterious power issues. It turned out to be oxidized molex connectors and wires between the boards. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

I agree about the connectors. They look like the ones used in the older Technics audio units. The contact is shaped like a "Q" and is susceptible to corrosion. There is a thin spot on the terminal where it can get weak causing the terminal to break or worse, a high resistance.
I would go over the bottom side of the boards and resolder all the connectors plugs. Probably just re-seating that plug fixed it. As you know (being a pinball guy) connectors are always an issue. A lot of fix-it people can't play so it's nice to see someone fix a synth and then be able to play something to test it properly. Maybe in a future vid you can do a bunch of 80's riffs and intros to show it off :-)
Can you dump the roms and stick them somewhere online? Might be able to add that synth to MAME. Recently a lot of Yamaha-based synths were added. What's the sound chip in that thing?
Search for the 'synthesizer rom archive' everything you want is on there :)
The rom images are readily available online. However these only contain data. The actual firmware is mask programmed in the two uPD 7811 processors, and it'll take some effort to extract them.
The sound section is built out of discretes, and many of them are proprietary.
I’m thinking the power problem may have been a dirty contact on a connector or a broken solder connection.
Kind of funny that the perfectly functional, glued key seems to bother you much more than the missing and not really functional Tune slider.
The tune slider bothers me equally, but I had already spent too much time whining about the key.
The replacement slider arrived today and will be installed soon.
