    There's an easier method to do HDMI port replacements for all the consoles. You don't have to remove the solder ;). I call it a drop technique and once have learned it, it became my fav. one. You apply the solder and heat up from the bottom the board. Once it's melting after a few minutes, you can drop the port. Worth heating it up a bit and taking a bit longer after you see the solder melted.

      Yes, I've done it that way as well and it is much easier. I will have to film it next time I change one.

      @@RetroElectronicRepair this type of port is more tricky than a regular one like in ps4, 5 and Xboxes. So drop method not everyone might like at the very start.

    Hey there! Im looking to get some advice. Im doing the exact same repair on my ps3 with basically no experience aside from changing the save battery in a pokemon game. I made a bit of a mess with extra solder but i got all the pins soldered down to the board but when i plug it up and try to switch the ps3 to hdmi i get all types of super weird signals from it 720×260 and 720×336. My question is did i mess up with the extra solder that got onto it? Should i clean up all the solder and try it again without getting extra on there? Im thinking maybe because of the extra solder i could be accidentally bridging the connections?

      Yes that could be a possibility. You could just get some flux and put it on the solder joints, then with a clean soldering iron tip go over the pins which will help the solder flow and the iron will remove a small amount of solder. If you have a lot of extra solder then it might be bridging and best to remove it and try again. It's not an easy job but practice makes perfect. Don't give up you will get there in the end and it will get easier. Good luck.

      @@RetroElectronicRepair thank you so much I think I'm just going to try and remove all the solder and just try again. My biggest issue so far with soldering is applying the new solder it seems like it always just wants to be stuck all over the iron and then just drop it all at once on some random pin so I'm left with a big clump of solder that I have to try and clean up. It happened with the Gameboy game too

      @tythestoner97 yeah it sounds like you need some flux, it makes a world of difference.

      @@RetroElectronicRepair maybe I'm not using enough flux because I'm using it with that same result

      @tythestoner97 It may be that your iron isn't getting enough heat to the board then. Those boards suck away a lot of the heat from your iron and can make it harder to solder. I sometimes have to use a little heat from my hot air gun while a solder.

    Will this erase all of the files on the console or not ?

      That's very kind of you but to be honest I will probably have 2 of these super slims I'm trying to fix as parts. Still filming 2 videos but struggling to get them working. How much did you want for it and where abouts are you? just in case I might need it. 👍

    My hdmi port looks ok but it doesn't output with it. And it only works with rca and while i have the rca on and connect the hdmi it detects that an hdmi plugged in. While i tried to hold the power button to reset the video

      It could be dirty contacts in the HDMI port or pins not soldered to the board properly. Hard to tell without looking at it with a microscope.

      @lefteris.adamou.1 I'm not sure what it could be then. Maybe the filters on the board or the hdmi encoder chip

      @RetroElectronicRepair  Рік тому

      @lefteris.adamou.1 you would have to take it apart to check the filters and make sure all the hdmi pins are connected to the board. I actually don't think this has an HDMI encoder chip, I think that is only on the PS4 & 5
