This is a combination of overthinking things, the caller outsmarting himself, and then trying to find some revisionist rationalization - and none of it jibes. The caller started with the most important statement of the whole call...HJ is a phishy loose passive player...those guys don't fold. Add that to the fact that he didn't squeeze pf because he feared he had this image of over aggression...and decides to c/r, barrel, jam. If you're truly afraid the table now sees you as "out of line aggressive", you need to bluff less. In short, his actions don't reconcile with what he says he was thinking....and that makes it more likely he wasn't thinking in any logical manner and just button mashing - more like "I'll just call here, that'll be cool tricky...and I'll c/r here...that seems cool and tricky...and uh oh, I better just keep betting"....then after-the-fact he had to be able to find some way to explain his actions...to help him justify why he fucked this hand six ways to Sunday.

You hit most of it. His play doesn’t match his logic. Also, I would love to know what he bases his ‘scared $” theory on - since he was clearly wrong. As another person says in the chat - overthinking. If you’re going to bluff your pot off on a player read, you should have something solid to base it on

I feel like this was my one just comes down to a lesson some players have a lot of difficulty with: don’t bluff a calling station. I’ve definitely been guilty of this kind of play. I’ve (hopefully) learned to avoid it. A lot of times at the low stakes the most profitable thing to do is play really boring poker.

I'm 37 and I am one of the youngest regular players in my card room. It is EXTREMELY difficult to pull off a bluff vs these old regs. They just assume anyone younger than 50 is a wild aggressive player. I use this to my advantage by betting when I have it and just folding when I don't. Once in a while they give me credit for having a good hand. But the next time I play vs them they call me down light again. It's like they never learn the lesson. The truly funny thing is I'm usually a tighter player than most of the old regs.

Hero’s image came into play here. Also how much “scared money” is villain if he pays off river? Maybe the read isn’t so good. Or again hero’s image def comes into play, add it’s into the equation, plus villain is clearly not as scared as hero suspects. Rough one for hero. After villains call, hero has to be thinking wow terrible read by me, what a punt. Good hand Bart, love the bluff ones.

People try to make low-stakes poker complicated when it's actually pretty simple:
    1. Play relatively tight pre, 3-bet or fold poker works
    2. Bet aggressively when you've got it, go for thin value
    3. Remember nobody bluffs enough, so overfold turns and rivers to aggression
It's not that this is such a terrible play. It's just that running huge risky bluffs like these just isn't necessary against 2-5 fish.

I once spent a few hours in a Foxwoods jail cell due to playing underage. It was right after they had the drama with the underage girl who won the bad beat (and had been getting served) and I sit down as an 18 year old kid, take a $800 pot off someone at 1/2, and he immediately stands and starts shouting “this kids underage!!! Card him!! Card him!!”
The security guard walks over and I start grabbing all the chips and shoving them into my shirt (I was planning on just skiddaddling with them all wrapped up in the front of my tshirt like a kangaroo) 🤣🤣 I ended up keeping everything I won but they put me in the cell for a bit to check the cameras and make sure I didn’t get served, then I had to go to court and pay a small fine

People call in to get Barts take, but I think he'd help callers like this a lot more by asking them questions such as - What hand is he representing that c/r's flop then rips river? What hands is he trying to get to fold, the exact one that called? Bart did try to get him to see how his statements like "They're sick of me raising" don't jibe with running bluffs outta left field, with little to no thought as to what hand he's repping or trying to get to fold.

4:30 “I really didn’t think he should be doing a lot of big betting on this board”
Ugh why? It’s multiway I guess. But it’s a single raised pot. HJ can have all the overpairs, ATs, maybe even ATo, TT, 99, T9s, some 9x.
I guess hero can probably have more 9x but that’s about it. His range crushes ours and he can have plenty of nut combos as well.

I would call this a lesson in fold equity. The caller seems a bit lost when trying to think about it. Bart points out the issue here when hero says he did not 3 bet because his image is aggressive, but then check-raises the flop with king high. And this also began the fold equity issue. Villain bet 50 into 75-80 4 handed with position on only 1 of his opponents. How often is he really ever folding to a player who as a very aggressive image? Then the turn card here is kind of "sneaky bad" for hero, it does give him a straight draw, but it closes his backdoor diamonds & leaves him with only king high as his actual hand. But hero is forced to lead here because of his flop check-raise. On the river, I'm not sure why it is unclear to hero that he needs to actually hit, or rep the front door if a spade hits. But he jams on a brick. Maybe he gets AKss to fold, but that is actually the small part of villains range that he might consider folding on turn.
