I assumed that the M3/4 Comp with the auto would actually be a slightly better overall package back in March when I was buying my M3. And I bought the manual anyway. I had left manuals for a few years and needed to come home before they were all gone. 4 months in, I have zero regrets.
I really like your M cars and AMG reviews! You review them at the perspective of real buyers in certain market instead of talking nonsense. I've seen some more 'popular' car youtuber complaining about this gen X5/6M too extreme or the new M3 too heavy. Like they never even tried to understand the consumer logic of the market.
I ordered this exact same car, today. Minus the carbon buckets, and minus the outside carbon package. But I ordered a 2022 xDrive. Which is $4,100 more base price. Pretty much kills the cost of the seats.
I much prefer the automatic myself. The manual honeymoon phase goes away pretty fast and just becomes annoying after a while. I want to fully enjoy my car without having to shift and worry about "traffic shifting." Plus, BMW has made it to where you can basically customize your driving feel so you really feel in charge unlike most automatic vehicles. In my opinion, this is literally the perfect sports car.
Great review as always. The breakdown of the how the engine works with the transmission and the differences between the manual and the auto were very informative. Good to see BMW still gives the choice, when some other makes no longer do.
Can't agree more with you. I was a die hard manual transmission fan, but lately I want the automatic. Don't know if that I'm 43 years old, but manuals (owning an e92 (one of 4 in my country)) are good for other cars. At this level, manual do not make much sense... for me. Thank you so much for your incredible videos!!!
You nailed this review MM! I obviously haven’t driven this car, but I could tell from your M4 review that the manual in that particular vehicle was more of a handful to the point of being slightly distracting and possibly slowing you down from a driver’s perspective. This Competition seems much sharper and more engaging as an Automatic. I was going to disagree with you about spending the extra for the carbon fiber race seats, but you made a very compelling case for getting them.
With m drive professional, you get 10 stage tc in rwd mode in the xdrive model. Its a must have. On the rwd model its kind of a gimmic I also sat in the buckets back to back with 2 friends (all have buckets in other cars) and these are by far the worst buckets for daily driving in the history of cars. Lastly, the zf is the bomb. Had it in my aston with column mounted paddles and it was spectacular. Nice video as always, megale.
The title alone is GOLD! Purgatory in an automotive world, wow, couldn't have said it better...I also am still waiting for the ads to finish lol, I'm sure the video will be gold as well!!
Your take on the carbon seats was so surprising, especially after Matt Farrah and Zack Klapman absolutely panned them on their Smoking Tire review. I was thinking maybe it's the difference in body type (definitely compared to Matt) but you and Zack are similar. I guess to each their own. And thanks for an informative review!
The carbon seats are torture devices. I sold my first M4 because of them. My 2024 M4 has the sport seats, and feels like a totally different car. I mean, sure, when I’m on the track every weekend, I get tossed about more while I’m trying to balance and not spill my half-caff soy latte, but hey…
I could almost feel how planted the car is just by looking at the landscape footage shaking in the background. That’s a nice car (apart from you-know-what). It looks really fun.
Nice car, my only gripe is the automatic. Not much fun as the DCT. The manuals on the other hand by BMW are too rubbery for my liking. Another great review by the way! Keep the coming!
Exactly. I have a 335i with the ZF 8 speed and it’s great for an automatic and I love it. However, there is not way it’s matching the crispness of a well sorted DCT. Even the DCT in my Golf just was a bit better when pushing hard. A shame BMW gave up on them
@MotoManTV this is the first time I have ever liked, subscribed, AND commented on a video. As a non-panderer myself, I completely understand, and will gladly help out another non-panderer to get some more great *free* content :) I should also say that you present the most compelling argument for speccing the carbon fiber bucket seats. I wasn't going to get them for my M3 (with a manual) build, but now i am.
I'm confused. According to the BMW build site, the leather colors you suggest are not options on the "M" cars. And whatever orange you show is not the Kyalami.
I had this very conundrum and actually ordered a manual/base M3 (week 28 build, currently at port waiting on a boat!), knowing that automatic transmissions - like the ZF / 8L90 / 10L90 - have absolutely surpassed manuals and are better in every respect, but for my personal enjoyment. Sometimes you don't need the maximum of "a thing" to get the most enjoyment from it, and I'm okay getting fewer ponies and torks if it means I get 3 pedals. But that's just me. The conversation is actually even deeper than that, though, as some manuals are geared taller (which is bad) for EPA regs, and some autos limit things like boost in lower gears for the same reason. So it isn't even a matter of 2 vs. 3 pedals, but how the car is going to behave at different points in the gear or rev range. And anyways for the M3, it's really just 6 more psi of boost and let's be honest, when the ECU is cracked we will likely see OTC flashes to normalize the base's HP.
just ordered a ‘24 m4 in a manual. I was in the same boat, i debated between the base and comp for weeks before deciding but i figured this may be my last chance to own a manual car like this.
whats it like getting in and out of the car with those bucket seats though? Was hoping to get some real world daily use opinions on the mundane stuff like that. but otherwise, wonderful review as always!
It's a bit more challenging than the standard seats . . . but nothing crazy. However, if you are kind enough to let your ladyfriend or wife drive the car while she is wearing a dress . . . be forewarned, she will not like the entry or exit ritual.
Choice of an Automatic vs Manual comes down to Old vs NEW. When the car is new and under warranty, Automatic wins. But if you want to keep the car down the line (repairs), you would want a manual transmission.
Two different purpose designed/built tools for 2 different markets. You stated 2 of the core parameters. What’s absurd is the comparison. More logical would be the m5/sc.
Yes, with a hard carbon hump crushing your family jewels, you are a more alert driver. But don’t listen to me…I went full Goomba on my 2024 M4 Comp in Dravit/red.
Car companies need to do away with the destination charge and just add it to the sticker price. Especially for a car at this price point. It's the equivalent of going to the store to buy a loaf of bread and it's 2.99 on the shelf but then an addition 50 cents for a "destination charge". So dumb. Just give me the F'ing final price and stop with the slow drip.
Because many reviewers always talk BS and trying to make a special opinion to sell their videos to some other narrow minded people who would not buy the car anyway. Those are the type of reviewers who always complain the M Power cars getting too extreme or too sporty which is the exact reason they are getting more successful in the market.
@@KC-bv9kf Sure. There are two types of Reviewers: (1) Those who are not car salesmen / women types and aren’t trying to get noticed so that they can end up being on Prime Time TV. Their choice of language is honest and down to earth and they don’t have to worry about being too critical (honest) about the car being reviewed for fear of not being offered to review future cars of that brand / marquee (2) Mr Chin Drizzle who possibly scripts the majority of his videos and sounds fake and disingenuous. @Edysin Simon I’ll never drive it in the rain or snow. It’s all about putting the 503hp down, without blowing the tires off the car.
Congrats! I'd also get it with Xdrive if I could afford that car. All the reviews at this point says its a total win!

My ideal spec: M3 Competition, Dravit Grey, Kyalami Orange/Black Full Merino interior with the comfort seats, sunroof.
Saw this on the road today.
The new kidney grill works better on the flared exterior fenders. 👍
Good afternoon from Germany - lets watch :)

That M4 competition is a very fast car with the automatic transmission, the seats are beautiful.
I could almost feel how planted the car is just by looking at the landscape footage shaking in the background. That’s a nice car (apart from you-know-what). It looks really fun.

Great review (again). Any chance you’ll be reviewing the BMW X5 M50i?
Might be a bit too late for it to make sense for us.
No worries, thnx for your reply.
I've always maintained that many BMW models are much better suited to their auto gearboxes rather than a manual.

Yes, DCT would have made this car perfect. I really wanted to like and buy this car, but I’ll be building the RS3 for now.
Next the X-Drive Analysis. 🤔
Kumo is already on it.
I’d buy an M2CS, a used 991 C4s or Cayman GT4. The front end of the BMW still has me in purgatory.
The good news id you do not have to see it while driving.
There is a whole underground move back to the E9X M3 from the F8X M3/4 owners.
beautiful

No comment on grill if I'm not mistaken. I presume everyone is finally used to it or tired of talking about it. Personally I don't mind it.
