Swirls and marks happen because the people who are washing the car is not doing it correctly.
Finally saw an M4 in person after picking up my C63 from being serviced at the dealership which is next door to a BMW dealership.
The car looks tons better in person. The proportions show better in a physical walk around than on camera.

Fantastic review, I agree with the comment about it being comfortable when your in comfort and sporty when in sport. As it’ll be my daily I still do want a comfortable/efficient ride but when it’s time to put down the power; something that can do that job also😎🏁

I do like the shape of the M3 and sometimes really love what they’ve done but it doesn’t seem to last, I’m definitely not a fan of the M4 lines though. I’m keeping an open mind to the styling but won’t be swapping my F80 Comp just yet.
totally agree the f80 especially in austin yellow is absolutely jaw dropping, this new one looks ok in my opinion
i did nt like the front of the M4 at the beginning, now i m getting obsessed by its design: the 2 vents on the bonnet and the curves on the rear quarter panel, the rear diffuser and 4 exhausts, better than a Porsche 992 !
The darker paint colours do hide the ”controversial” front end which requires an acquired taste 😀 BMW has lost it’s design language and is all over the place even though the product themselves are great..

Great review Joe. Honest feedback about the seats. Another thing with those seats is that the CF piece would be in the way of manual transmissions specs. I went with the comfort seats AND Tanzanite Blue. Hopefully I don't regret! Cheers

I've been a fan of the G80 since it was released into the wild, M3 is the better looker like the previous gen again but it does have some weird/odd angles, About time they put a decent seat in an M car though
I think a great deal of the improvement in traction may simply be down to the 4S tyre. I have a 2019 F82 (I know the dampers etc have changed from the original launch cars) and changed to the 4S and it has transformed the car from a traction perspective. Really, night and day. Would like Joe to try one and see what he thinks.
I don't have the problem with getting kids in the back so no real issues with practicalality so the natural progression for me should be this the M4 I find I prefer the M3, I just like the all round looks

Kinda same. Especially with the darker colours for me as those seem to blend well with the kidneys and somewhat absorb them.

I think these would look great with the front number plate in the ‘Alfa Romeo’ position (passenger side) and number plate plinth removed, they were clearly designed without the front plate in mind.

me I would get for my spec the frozen blue something Portofino with black rims carbon ceramics and blue and yellow interior with the M drivers package and comp pack holy shit that would be my dream combo this is my dream car there is something when i see a bmw m3 or m4 it has this glow to it like its a legendary car its amazing i love it so much and joe I'm so happy you got it. Thanks Joe for another great, real and honest review. This review confirms, the M4 should be my next car. Very happy to hear that the comfort is good enough for relaxed cruising. So it seems it's a perfect Jekyll & Hyde car. I will wait for the x-Drive version. Hopefully those are not too heavy and hopefully the x-drive does not reduce the steering feeling too noticeable and hopefully the car body is not higher than the real wheel version. (like the difference is in the normal 5 series). Would you really rather recommend the Michelin compared to the Pirellis comfort wise ?...In terms of colours it's hard to decide, my current favourites are black, Dravit grey or aventurine red! Bregs from Germany

My México built (US Viewer) 2021 M340 in Portamoa Blue (never remember how to spell it) is one of the worst car paints I’ve ever gotten. My 2018 BMW was Mineral Grey, and that was the opposite, it was one of the most durable paints. I thought it might have been confined to NA production, but I guess not. The paint / clear coat is now softer than a Japanese car. When I picked up the car, there were swirls on the hood where the plastic didn’t cover (corner top edges). I went through a Dunkin Donuts drive through and as I took my big American coffee through the window, my wedding band struck the top of the door frame. There is a small nick there that goes right down to the primer. I’ve had better paint on Honda Civics. I’m very disappointed, especially since my last Mineral Grey car was the exact opposite. I’m glad you mentioned this Joe, I think BMW may have gone to either an aqueous paint (like they use in the USA) or some newer paint process.
The modern day Carbon Black.... Same thing happens to my e46 M3 paint.
Let’s get something straight: the M4 is overall an ugly car. The front end is beautiful (yes, even the grille)... working back... it’s an M3 with no rear doors. So Bee Em Vee decided to just put a slab side on it. One of the ugliest cars on the road because of it.

i've given the looks a chance but the grilles ugly still. Everything else is fine. I like the interior the most. Never liked the exhaust note on the M3 M4's. The M340i takes the cake for me.
The fact that I'm a bmw employee I'd really like to say the look of this car had grew on me, but, nope, after months of seeing (forcibly, thanks to journalists like Joe Achilles posting all over social medias) the front still looks🤮

Ive got a Tanzenite Blue M3 on order, would you recommend full PPF to protect against paint marks and swirls?
Looks are subjective, but even after seeing this car in person multiple times I still think the front is horrible, and the whole car is just okay. The Interior on the other hand is clearly a big improvement. The only real issue is the hood for the instrument cluster is too high and blocks some of your straight-ahead line of sight. As for the transmission, let be honest, this was BMW being cheap and cutting costs by using the 8-speed auto in everything and no longer building a bespoke DCT.

But as for the new m4 and M3 I really do not like it at all and it’s the first new m car that I haven’t like from the beginning. I must admit though that it does look better in that dark blue as you can’t see it’s strange definition lines, stuck on fins, diaper on the rear and the grill.
Wheels don’t seem to fill the arches very well. Also can’t help but feel it should be called an M450i. Seems to have lost some M car magic....the M cars have traditionally been emotive but flawed and that’s where the excitement come and personality is.
I like the front end. It screams BMW to me. I lived in Germany 90-92 and the BMW emblem was taller than it was wide. This is a play on that. I like the other but this screams iconic BMW to me.
I ditched the carbon seats after test drive when ordering my m3 Friday. There gorgeous but completely unpractical for a daily driver. If you have to get in and out of the car a few times in a short period you will throw a fit!!! Stopping for gas, coffee, bank, post office like most business owners do daily that seat will be tore apart.
I don't know man. The new M4 just doesn't do it for me. The m3, however, that's a whole different level of sexy. Is it just me or is it just fatter and sexier?
Its a head scratcher why BMW chose these bright colors as the „official colours“. M3 and M4 look so much better in these dark specs.

More headroom in this car but the car is such a porker, don't compliment them for that. BMW needs to figure out the headroom in a smaller chassis without sacrificing size and weight.
The reason it looks "better" in dark color is because you can't really see the bottom portion of the nostrils...
And it looks better when it has a license plate, says it all really. Gotta hide that ugly mug as much as possible 😂

My A7 3 litre diesel only does 36mpg on the motorway at around 70 doing 1700 rpm. 🙄

Joe is there any way to do something about the sound setup? When u are driving the road noise is so strong and i can barely hear u....i watch on my tv and i had to pump up the volume quite a bit to be able to hear you properly :) cheers

Gotta admit that grill is starting to grow on me. I hate it in chrome on the base 4 series but in the jet black on the m4 with the extended arches it looks do mean.

Also your point about paint swirls hasn’t the car been ceramic coated, I would have thought this process would eliminate the problems you are having with swirls.

What surprises me the most about you is how you preferred the F15 interior over the G05, and yet seem to enjoy this interior just because you bought this car. Very confusing change of opinion there since they are almost identical interiors, except for G05 having slightly better quality.

Hey Joe, that looks like my favourite road, runs from Newbury/Chieveley to Wantage and you can loop back into Hungerford....That was me a few months back just past junction 14 on the m4 - pulled up along side you and gave you a wave in your m2 - I was in the m4

Joe get yourself upto Blakey Road in North Yorkshire moors. Its a fast flowing 14 mile long mountain pass and what a road. Stevie Sutcliffe described it as the best road in England. Just been up there today in my Cupra

Joe - this review was great. I do own the new M4 so it may sound bias, but a really good review and I agree with the points you make -- mine is in Dravit Grey and yes, it does swirl in the paint too, you have to be really careful when washing it and nearly always end up polishing it - think I'll get it ceramic coated to help.
So ... back to the review. The points you raise about the carbon bucket seats... spot on! The only reason I didn't go with that option was the wear and tear factor and the carbon harness piece in the seat base... you proved that right and it's an important one if prospective owners love the new seat styling, but want to keep the look good long term.
Yes, the gesture control was cool at first, but when it starts to operate without you wanting it to .. time to deactivate. The seating position is pretty special I agree, with the layout and cabin tech, you couldn't want more really. I like the ability to select the colour mood with the dash led, foot wells and side pockets too, night driving is a pleasure in the car.
The performance, it's everything you'd need. I haven't pushed, or launched my car yet as it's running in, but a slight glimpse of what's to come with the correct settings activated is something to look forward to.
Question for you - did you play about with the gearbox settings at all, in M1 or M2 mode? If so, which were your favourite settings S1,2,3 DSC, etc..... I'm undecided. I would like swift gear changes up, but when you take your foot off the gas, it remains at high revs for too long, like it wants to carry on speeding through gears, so makes you sound like a boy racer when backing of the accelerator pedal.... what's your opinion on that?
Anyway, thanks for another vid - and I reckon we'll all look forward to the big grin on your face when you show us the M3 you're getting.... I bet that won't get the"track" treatment as much right? 🤣😎
