The "original" as you put it was the FM78 (Feldmesser 1978) introduces one year after the Steyr AUG ("StG77") assault rifle - hence the hollow grip, though it was never used as a bajonett. Originally designed for the Austrian army the "real" ones which we were issued with will have a symbol on the blade, just in front of the guard: a circle with a triangle in it, symbol for the ÖBH (Österreichisches Bundesheer). Steel is 1085 high carbon, this knife is a utility field and combat knife. Tough, but easy to resharpen in the field, though it isn't meant to be sharp! We use it to chop, cut ice, pry doors open, dig in hard packed earth and pierce barrels. This was never made as a cutting weapon (slashing etc.). That grip will also save your hands in our winters (-20°C when I was on winter manoeuvres in the Alps). We abused the heck out of those things, but they never failed.
Mine came totally blunt except for the tip, was a bit disappointed since I have no idea on how to sharpen it without changing the blade edge profile. Was it meant to be used as a pure stabbing weapon in the Austrian army?
My friend took this knife with him on a clean up mission after hurricane Catrina and told me he actually cut open a car door with it. I'm so stubborn I still haven't picked one of these knives up yet.
YOU ARE A GREAT GUY. I love the way you are testing the blades. We can rely on you my friend. Best testing on the field, humour and no bullshit; Thanks a lot, really. JohnMc
When I was in the Army we only got the SAK Dutch army model and is basically a bit thicker version of the SAK Soldier. Great pocket knife but I wanted something more sturdy so first chance I got I took my Glock 81 model in OD, like my uniform (we did not use camo back than) and this combination of pocket knife and Glock served me well. I was not allowed to carry it but they never did find out, so that's ok. ;) Later changed to the 78 model and altered it a bit. That bottle opener is part of the attachment to mount on a rifle, so I cut that part of, altered the bevel and some alterations to the sheath. It is probably the toughest 'plastic' handle around for a stick tang knife. Still use it when I want a second knife but not add to much weight.
The 81 (the version with the grater) is a prohibited weapon regarding the rules of war. They may be old but are still in place. The bottle opener makes a good handguard so you don`t slip and i guess it wold be quite effective if you happen to parade a other blade. The biggest downsides are rust, the problem to deploy it one handed asap and that you have to quiet them down yourself because they rattle.
Be advised, they only make the 78 in black now, so if you own a 78 in OD dont abuse them as much. If you want to silence the sheath, take some paracord inner strands, wrap the around the tip of the blade and stick it down the sheath. Now glue segments of the outer paracord inside the top of the sheath.

nice sword collection in the background when you're testing the bottle opener Mayor! Love your content man and I seriously trust your reviews you put everything through its paces way past the point of abuse and it's awesome for a person who plans to take a blade camping and be able to rely on it. I just want to suggest for when you do the incredibly destructive tests on brick or cinder block that you wear a leather jacket and Dickies pants or some other form of cut resistant material after seeing you absolutely destroy blades on those. It could go a long way in terms of PPE after most of the force is taken out on contact leather or a thick work material that's hard to cut down a ton of the risks involved in those tests. I am in a pretty tight sword community with a ton of smith's and they mostly recommend covering the wrists when profiling a blade on a grinder or doing destructive tests on a batch. You seem to be taking reasonable precautions though and I just want you to be able to keep up these amazing reviews without injury, also bandage your wounds a quicker and a bit more lol you're awesome keep it up from one bladesman to another!!

A great modification for this knife is to have a metal pommel cut up to fit the cavity in the handle - creating a glass breaker / flat hammer or a fire steel striker
You did to your glock knife, That I would not do. Got mine in 83 during my AT with the national Guard and used it for the six years I was in. The top of the cap on the handle was broken off from knife throwing, But it's still great.
To get that plug out of the handle take a nylon line thru a hole drilled into the cap . leave a loop on the out side take both line thru a sized washer that fits the inside do a good knot that the lines cannot pull thru the washers hole . You now have a small loop to grab to remove the plug
Glock field knives are dope. I have the 78 which is a plain edge in OD green that I got for like 27 bucks. These things are tuff and inexpensive enough to just beat the hell out of them and not care too much. Worth the money

A great modification for this knife is to have a metal pommel cut up to fit the cavity in the handle - creating a glass breaker / flat hammer or a fire steel striker
Loved this test. I've had this knife for a while and know it's tough, did not know it was that tough. Wow.
I love the Glock knives. I have two and looking to get more. Awesome review! Thanks for making some great vids.

Your videos are so helpful bro…
Keep sharing!!! God bless you!!!
How is the throwing ? Can u use it as a throwing knife ?
Just ordered one today! Very excited too as they are so cheap and still hold up like tanks!
You did to your glock knife, That I would not do. Got mine in 83 during my AT with the national Guard and used it for the six years I was in. The top of the cap on the handle was broken off from knife throwing, But it's still great.
Nice work! thank you for testing a glock knife, subscription from Korea-
Thanks for watching friend, hello from Texas :)

Well now I have to buy one. Great video Sir.
You rock bro, this video was A+. Definitely subscribed.
I was not surprised at those posters at all.
