Someone told me that if you wanted to see MJ close in his concerts, tickets were roughly $40 (VIP). Not bad during that time.
The music icon that had the biggest impact on my life is absolutely Michael Jackson. He is the main reason why I love music today and he paved the way for me to listen to other genres like soul and Rock. I was addicted to his songs, videos and concerts. His signature moves are just enough to make my day.

Shakira is very popular in Africa, Europe and Asia. She’s just not that big in the US.

No pop star compares to Michael Jackson's cultural impact interms of what he did for black artists, music videos, dance etc & he's arguably the most well rounded artist.
As an artist, Prince was much more complete. Basically he did everything; He sang, danced, played any instrument, composed his songs and produced his records by himself. Now it is true that the cultural, commercial and artistic impact of Michael has not been had by anyone in history, taking The Beatles out.

There are artists with huge impact as MJ please. There's actually one act in the top five of the list that has huge musical + cultural impact too. The Beatles have by far a stronger impact in music too.

The Beatles' fanbase is overwhelmingly western and white, just look at the audience of their concerts and compare them to the MJ concert. MJ is the blueprint for K pop stars, including BTS and also a dance god in India, the cultural minister of Saudi Arabia is a huge MJ fan, in Brazil, there is a statue of MJ in a freaking favela, he created the single most iconic solo dance routine and co-created the most iconic group dance routine of all time which 10 000 people danced in Mexico in 2009, the list goes on and on and on. The Beatles doesn't even come close to MJs cultural impact globally

I loved seeing Taylor Swift and Frank Sinatra on here. Two of my personal favorites. There is no genre Taylor can't conquer(maybe rap and hip-hop) and Frank was as great an actor as he was a singer and live entertainer.

@@stevedimmock930 Taylor knows her barriers. She knows she isn't Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston or Beyonce, so she uses her voice cleverly. She can sing BETTER than she could but is saving her voice. She wasn't straining her voice too much which made her voice go better
@@u_s_a12 I think that was what went wrong with Adele's vocal chords a few years ago, she was straining them too much which meant she had to cancel a few shows.
Also singers from a country background tend to still sound good decades after they first become well known, probably because their vocal style is much better for their vocal chords than say a lot of rock singers (although the excess lifestyle of rock starts probably didn't help either 😂)

Well Madonna, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and the Vocal Trinity (Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston) were a must undoubtedly. Although Mariah Carey has never considered herself a pop artist, first she was a soul, baladeer flirting with mainstream dance music, but when she got to really produce all of her songs she became a pure RnB, Hip Hop, Soul and Gospel artist. She even says she doesn't really listen to pop music and her "poppiest" sound was mostly on her remix where she would write new lyrics and ft artists like ODB, Missy Elliot,Jay Z etc, but because of the reign she had in the 90s and throughout the 00s and 10s is the genre she created that has been predominant mostly for the past 30 years and proof of that is that she is the only artist in history to have 2 songs of the Decade, I guess they place her a lot like a pop artist in a sense of popular music and not pop as a sound per se, only Billboard doesn't consider her one but thats because Nielsen Soundscan takes care of those statistics so it would be unfair to place her as a pop artist only when her 19 #1 singles and 250 million albums will pull too much weight into a genre she doesnt really belong to so they place her on their chart of "The Greatest Artists of all time" as the first female and the 4th artist overal which is more accurate that way BTW Watch Mojo needs to do their Homework, Patricia Carey never trained Mariah as a singer, her mom at some point said that Mariah was not half the singer she was and yet she couldn't fathom the reason why she was famous, Mariah forgave her for that and in 2010 during Mariah's pregnancy she recorded a song with her mother who is indeed a talented Mezzo soprano, Cher made music sexier and more open for women, more empowered inside the industry, Madonna sexualized and broke boundaries, she has 'the edge", Whitney taught us that a beautiful voice was never to be put in the backseat and Mariah made us understand that because you are using more contemporary or modern sounds vocal technique sets artists apart and that newer music did not have to compromise vocal talent, yo until today nobody has been able to really merge as many sounds Mariah uses in her music with her voice in a succesful way, is not just about making huge notes, low or high, fast paced phrasing, different vocal registers, nothing had to be sacrificed, even on her remix of Fantasy ft ODB she is singing in a very high belt, head voice, balanced mixed voice and huge octave jumps without us realizing up until today not many have been succesful to merge all that as good as she has for 31 years and production, songwriting and vocals all fit in modern music, many artists don't even know they do something with their music because Madonna, Cher or Mariah did it before them. Janet Jackson is a real pop diva too, can never be forgotten. And Adele is a bit complicated to place her here too I think, but what they said is true, she united us all still but she will have to step it up for her next album because her music is varying much and she has the talent to experiment a bit more with different sounds that will still fit as part of her musical identity. Britney and Christina opened a new era, perhaps their input to music is not as notorious as Madonna or Mariah but they are icons, pure modern pop, new millenium sound and they knew how to carry music into the 00s in such a monstruos way that their legacy is completely embedded.

I think Pop by now it’s taken as Popular music and some of Mariah’s hits even though very R&B leaning, definitely fall into pop for me, specially the faster paced ones, like Honey, Fantasy and It’s like that although R&B technically, it has a very pop quality to it, specially considering R&B was the biggest Pop(ular) genres of the 90’s. Mariah def a giant and def should’ve been higher on this list, same as Madonna who should’ve come after Michael.

Before we went insane over Gaga’s ability to change her looks and reinvent, Beyoncé’s feminism empowered performances and Taylor Swift’s ability to control her narrative and career, there was ONE and only ONE woman who made those things into the standard things to expect from ANY female pop star that came after her, and that’s MADONNA. Her coming after anybody on this list but Michael feels a bit sexist specially considering who they put over her instead and the fact that the woman is called “Queen of Pop” is number 5 in a list about Pop artists, behind male artists that sold less pop records than her and don’t represent the Pop genre as accurately as Madonna does.

Haga's constant denial of borrowing heavily from a multitude of artists, most notably Madonna, and her capacity to denigrate these same artists when confronted by the obviousness of her plagiarism is inauthentic, poor sportsmanship and repellant.
