I did Bohemian Rhapsody with an absolute stranger at a karaoke bar once, as she was looking for a partner. Surprisingly enough, we harmonized very well and fell into our parts easily! It was so much fun! The crowd absolutely loved it! I didn't get her name but I hope she knows she freaking killed it on the mic!

I witnessed an entire wedding party perform “Bohemian Rhapsody” at a local bar, and could tell it was going to be a tough act to follow. Spoiler alert number 1, it was a regularly-scheduled karaoke night, the wedding party was the party crasher, so to speak. Spoiler alert 2, I was up afterwards, performing “Wasted Years” by Iron Maiden. Ever since then, I have come to believe that “Wasted Years” is a great song for such an occasion (you do have to know what the song is about to understand).

Meh. I never had any trouble singing it. Aside from Rogers falsetto I think it really isnt that hard. And I find thats true for many other songs on this list. At least for me.
I started singing when I was nine and started simply by imitating the styles of Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury, Elton John, George Michael, Pink Floyd and Simon and Garfunkel (my mom always played good music around the house) and by the time I was 20 I could rip most of their songs with little to no problem.

@sjc4 she mentioned that Stevie backed her up in that song...I never knew that... I also didn't know about her untimely untimely death 4 years later. That's so incredibly sad. I used to listen to her record as a little girl with my mother along with all of Stevies Wonders music, The Temptations, 4 Seasons, along with others I can't think of during the early 70's forward into the 80's, maybe even earlier when I was a tiny tot, Lol. Every song brings me a great memory. I just realized my dad probably has all of the albums still even though she's passed away. Going through those would be so fun. I still need to upgrade my turn table and sound system. Mine is currently unworthy of any LP's. Anyone have any suggestions?
I would like speakers too....but will have to get things a little at a time (maybe).

@@kscarfe5702you might try an electronics store in your area such as Best Buy. That’s a start. Problem is most of the employees won’t be audiophiles like you’d find at an old fashioned stereo shop but they may be able to point you in the right direction.
My parents had a bunch of old 78 rpm records and their turn table could handle those so I got to listen to old Billie Holiday recordings and others of that era. The turntables gave up on 78 and 16 so anything we had would not move forward if we replaced the equipment. They gave up also on 45s, there went my collection 🙂.

The only thing that irritates me is that people always mention “Loving You” as her most difficult song, but it’s not. It’s just her most popular song. Many of her other songs like “Inside My Love” and “Memory Lane” are more challenging. Her hardest songs are “Reasons” and “Could It Be I’m In Love”, where she holds notes for an incredibly long time and then makes her voice sound like a bird chirping in the middle of a note. Never heard anyone else who could do that.

@@ripleyfry2107 I meant complete control. Freddie could get to a 4th octave, but I meant octaves in which he could comfortably dwell in full command. We all have a range that's comfortable and easily maneuvered within, but then there's that range we can each hit only if we work up to it, and we can't stay long because we're not at the top of our game there. Freddie hit 3 octaves with monster control. Believe me when I say that's impressive enough. We don't need to embellish since there are only 10 octaves our ears can perceive. 3 is a LOT for one human voice, especially considering how sick he was for some of that time.

Also, there are several voices out there that deserve the spotlight, such as Lionel Richie or Ann Wilson, the lead singer of Heart. The list goes on. Great compilation. it can benefit from the inclusion of Al Jarreau's song "Blue Rondo ala Turk" for the staccato demands, scatting skills, and breath control. There's also Billy Joel's "We didn't start the fire" for the continuous flow of lyrics making you wonder when to breathe. Then there's the all time difficult to learn song of Seal called "Kissed by a Rose". It has so many twists and timing / tempo changes. Please include them in the future. Thanks.

I kinda like the idea and ambition of Bohemian Rhapsody more than the song itself. It's not the vocal difficulty that makes it so big. It's the bigness of it that makes it so big. Within that bigness, however, few risks of the vocal variety were taken. There's no "high note," nor is there an extreme in any direction other than big. Had it been any bigger, it woulda called for a full orchestra. Had Queen chosen such vocally technical feats, I doubt the song woulda been so "catchy" for those of us who enjoy singing along.

Disturbed's cover of "Sound of Silence", Lara Fabian's "Adagio", "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele, and "Lights by Ellie Goulding come to mind for various reasons.
    - Disturbed's cover of "Sound of Silence" has intense build-up, requires great control over volume, and also contains great grit and emotion that are hard to capture.
    - "Adagio" by Lara Fabian has a large range to be covered, multiple key changes, and a powerful climax that requires phenomenal breath and singing support to execute properly.
    - Adele's "Rolling in the Deep", similar to "Hello", has insane vocals, not because there are super high notes, but because of the sheer strength packed behind it. Like "Adagio" by Lara Fabian, "Rolling in the Deep" also requires insane vocal support.
    - "Lights" by Ellie Goulding certainly doesn't sound as difficult, but requires a wide range of singing styles, from chest voice to falsetto to head voice, all of which Goulding switches between throughout the song. From personal experience, it's also hard to stay on-key with.

I'd vote "Walk Away" for Xtina, beautiful range from her lowest to highest and very tiring on the throat. Even "Beautiful" and "Reflection" is harder to sing than "Hurt", IMHO...but yeah, when you got emotional singing it (because you feel related) your throat could be closed down with emotions while singing "Hurt". 🥲
Also for Mariah, I vote for "My All". Many girls with high soprano voice who can do the whistle register can sing "Emotions" nowadays (for example Ariana Grande), but I bet Ariana can't touch Mariah's low notes in the end of "My All", showcasing Mariah's dominance in her super wide register (over 5 octave range). Mariah also has songs with super long notes, like "Lead the Way" and "Without You" that can make people pass out trying to hold the note. "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers also got that long note, lovely note indeed.

The only person who ever came close was George Micheal , I often watch that version instead of Freddie , just because of the pressure George must have felt.
That concert whilst a great tribute wasn't that great imo , some of the acts just couldn't do the songs justice, then George Michael had a nice warm up with Lisa stansfield , but then smashed somebody to love.

Without a doubt, the most difficult songs include "Take Me On" by A-ha. The higher notes are insane, yet Morten effortlessly pulls it off. Let's not forget the accompanying video that became an instant classic. I think it was once (may still be) considered one of the greatest artistic videos of all time. Secondly, Minnie Ripperton: "Loving You". She was beyond gifted and left here too early. Looking back, I do not believe I have ever heard another vocalist attempt that song or hit the highs that she easily manages. with the possible exception of Mariah Carey.
